The mage paused to glance at her. "What sort of magic? Necromancy. Magic of death, and also of the soul," he told her, smiling a little. He knew full well that most considered magic of this sphere to be dark and evil, but he was sure enough of himself that he did not feel that he needed to be afraid of telling her. Magic is magic. Not good or evil. It's all in how one uses their gift.

Good and Evil vary by oppinion. That old proverb seemed to ring in her ears at hearing what he said. The necromancy thought scared her a little bit, though Kumoru was a nice guy, right?
"That's still a scary thought... You've never brought something back from the dead before, have you? Like little animals or something?" Thinking back to her old science class, she remembered when they had to disect frogs. She'd gotten sick for obvious reasons that day, though would probably have been one of the first to laugh if the little amphibians got the chance to bounce out the window for a proper burrial.

He shrugged, brushing his hair back behind his ear as he turned his gaze back to the path before him. "A few things. Nothing too large, though. Mostly houseplants, when they die." He ponders a moment, then amends the statement slightly: "No animals yet, I guess."

"Houseplants?" That almost confirmed her thoughts of Kumoru being harmless, smiling as she looked to Kumoru. "I can see how that's convenient. I have a venus fly trap at home that's pretty close to dying... The trip didn't agree with the poor thing. It's incredibly delicate." She said calmly, then smiled sheepishly. "Sorry if I'm ranting..." Chris murmured quietly.

Kumoru laughed as he told her, "I have what some people refer to as a 'brown thumb'. No plant seems to last more than a few weeks under my care. Except, of course, the unwanted ones. They take care of themselves quite nicely."

"Never had a venus flytrap, though," he added. "They seem quite interesting. I'd get one, but it would probably die." He chuckled again. "Such a bother, having to bring the plants back. It would take far less energy to animate their dead stems and leaves, but it's more fun to do that with animals."

"Ever thought of getting artificial flowers?" Chris asked with a small smile. "They're not as fun as carnivorous plants though... And I certainly wouldn't want to see what would happen to goldfish if you can't keep plants alive." She'd only been teasing, and hoped he didn't take it the wrong way. Spotting a purple flower growing on the pathway ahead, Chris jogged forward to pick it carefully, smiling as she looked at it. "Isn't it pretty?" She asked, looking to Kumoru. Putting it in her hair behind her ear with a small smile.

"Animals always seemed easier to look after, though," he said. "Plants don't tell you when they're hungry or thirsty. Animals do. Or most of them, anyway."

Kumoru paused when she stopped to pick the flower, watching her. "Pretty things are pretty because they don't last." He smiled. "It is a nice shade of purple, though."

((Darn it! It ate my post! >.<"))

"That's one way to look at it." Chris said calmly, turning to smile at Kumoru. "How much further do you think it'll be until we reach your house?" She asked curiously, mentally trying to remember the pathway from the Anima Gardens to her friend's home. If he did end up with a kid like the woman had said from the spirit in his lantern she'd like to help babysit. Kumoru was a calm and dedicated person to his studies it seemed, though Chris had the impression the chaotic nature of a kid would be too much for Kumoru to handle.

"Not much farther," he told her, raising a hand to point. Just ahead, a smaller path breaks away from the main one. There is a mailbox at the corner; the small path leads up to what was once a white picket-fence, which is now covered over with ivy. On the other side of the fence is a small yard, and then a cottage. The house looks comfortable for one, perhaps two people, but it would definitely be too small for a family of four.

The mage leads her up to the gate and unlatches it, then steps into the yard and holds the gate open for Chris. "Here's home for me..."

Giving a small bow of her head, Chris smiled warmly at Kumo for his politeness. "Thanks." She said pleasently, heading up the pathway toward Kumo's house, looking around curiously. "This is nice... Looks cozy for someone living alone." Chris commented calmly.

Kumoru nodded, shutting the gate and then stepping ahead again to unlock and open the door. "Yes, I like the smallness. Not much space for books, but that also means fewer places to clean."

As he opened the door, Chris would have likely noticed a faintly dusty, somewhat herbal scent from within - the smell of many old books, and of items needed for magic. Straight ahead through the small entryway would be the living room; the view of the lantern on the table would be blocked by Kumoru's Favorite Chair, but a bit of a glow might be visible around the battered leather seat nonetheless.

The mage held the door for her, gesturing with the other hand for her to enter. "It's not much on the inside, either, I'm afraid, unless you like old tomes filled with spells and research," he admitted with a slight laugh.

Stepping inside, Chris walked inside and looked around with curiousity. "Wow..." She murmured, seeing the stacks of books everywhere. "You sure do a lot of heavy reading." She commented, turning to look at Kumoru with a smile. "I like it. It makes me think you're old fasioned." Giving a soft laugh, she started to look around, though at walking around Kumo's chair she gasped at the knife stuck in the table near the lantern. That wasn't normal... "Wh-why's there a knife in your table?..." She was willing to bet that wasn't ketchup on it either.

"'Old fashioned'?" he repeated, chuckling a little. "Now what do you mean by that?"

Kumoru froze as Chris mentioned the knife in the table. "Oh, that...." Almost instinctively, he crossed his arms in an effort to hide his bandaged hand. "Well, I figured I had to give it something of its own in order to help attract a butterfly," he explained somewhat hesitantly. "And I kind of... dropped the knife, rather than laying it down on the table. The mist circled around it right away though, so I figured I shouldn't move it."

Chris slowly got over her shock, walking toward the lantern and the knife in the table to get a closer look at it. "This is what you cut your hand on... huh?" She asked, turning to look at Kumo worriedly. "No wonder you were so worried about what would come out of your lantern..."
