At the mentioning of the cigarette, the octopus's eyes widened, round and inhuman as he gave a little noise in the back of his throat, "He... said... he said I coul'... smoke now... " He sucked in a few more breaths, two tentacles raising to extend out towards him needily, "Y'got... a... a spare?" The limbs were shaking, his noseless face trembling and his gaze was still locked on the cancer stick in question.

The question got a surprised look for him, which turned to bemusement as he pulled another cigarette out, then his lighter. His own was lit, then the second, which he held out. "They're Lucky Strikes," he said, feeling he had to say something other than the first thing that came to mind, which was 'how the hell does an octopus smoke'. No sense being insensitive about it when he was about to find out.

Billy leaned back, his head lolling to lean against the side of the chair as he drew in a deep breath, the cigarette clenched between his misshapen almost-beak. When he exhailed with a moan, the smoke didn't only pour from his mouth, but the hole that could have been mistaken for his ear as well. He lowered the cigarette, the filter coiled in a tentacle, "Ne'er.... heard o'... no... lucky strikes."

"They're mostly for people who have read too many stories by Dashiell Hammett," Sid said. "Guy who wrote the Maltese Falcon? It's an old brand. So it's, like, smoking history. Only not really."

He was babbling, he knew, but seeing smoke exhaled from odd places could do that. He took a long drag off his own cigarette, held it until it burned, and exhaled with something close to a relieved sigh. "Yeah, so, in short- I like 'em."

"I like... any cigarettes now..." Billy groaned with another orgasmic drag, "he said... I coul' smoke 'em again... " He tried to scratch under the collar with a tentacle tip, the red light flickering ominously. There was no mechanical noise, though. Billy seemed fascinated by the white smoke drifting up above him.

Sid, meanwhile, was staring at Billy with a mix of disgust and a little fascination of his own. He leaned on his cane and tried to ignore the mud that was currently drying on his shirt and jeans. Laundry soon, he told himself, very soon, like as soon as he walked away from the encounter.

He took a much more subdued drag and said, as he exhaled. "Who said?"

The octopus's eyes flickered for a moment as an amused smile wormed it's way over his mouth, "Big Red." At that, he gave a hearfelt, but clearly intoxicated giggle befor suckling at his cigarette again hungrilly.

Sid nodded as though that made any sense at all to him and sighed. "You remind me, strangely enough, of this cheetah girl I met on the beach. She was... well..." He took a drag off the cigarette, exhaled it. "I really do wonder how hard and frequently you have to ******** someone to, uh, ******** their mental capacity that badly." They were guys, he could say that, but then he realized it might seem like he was implying something, so he backpedaled just a little.

"Granted," he said quickly. "I'm not saying you're a victim of the same terrible circumstances... You just, ironically, have the same manner of speaking. And it's disconcerting, man- really just freaky."

Billy's eyes blinked, although not quite in unison as he tried to make sence of what Sid was saying. Try to pay attention, lad, come on... "I... din' rape her! I was framed," He hissed pointedly, "Red an'... wit' th'bloody feckin'... drugs an'..." His nervious twitch returned, his face glistening with a sort of amphibious sweat. "He- did- t'ings..." He managed befor the red light and the whurring machine noise of tiny moters returned and the octopus slackened again. The cigarette dropped from a tentacle to sizzle in the mud under his wheels.

"Whoa," Sid said. He took a step away. "Okay, poor choice of topic um..." He glanced down to the fallen cigarette, but it was a loss- not just because it was in the mud, but because he knew that if he tried to bend down to get it there was a chance he wouldn't be able to get back up without assistance, and his only source of that was currently slumped in the wheelchair before him. Sid put his own cigarette back in his lips long enough to scratch his temple.

"I'm gonna take a wild shot in the dark here," he said. "But it's the collar isn't it?"

He peered closely at Billy, wondering if any of that had gotten through. He really should have figured it out sooner...

The octopus watched the old man for a long few moments in silence befor he spoke again, his voice quiet as he glanced side to side to see if they were being watched, "I'll tell y'a secret."

Thanks to the strong smell of old fish, Sid wasn't inclined to lean forward. "Oh yeah?" he asked, the least he could do was keep his voice down.

"There's a wild tiger in th'jungle," After this conspirational warning, the octopus broke into a fit of giggles, as though it were the funniest joke in the world. Perhaps in his world, it was.

Sid leaned back and gave Billy a skeptical look. "Uh-huh..." he said. "So why do I get the feeling you're leaving something out there?"

Maybe it was the giggling.

Billy continued to laugh, that breathy, exasperated, clearly innebriated sort of laugh of a man who had been pushed a few too many times. He shifted, shifting in his chair to lean towards the other man, waving a tentacle pointedly, "c'mere... t'me..."
