I felt the need to introduce myself, for the sake of understanding. A clinic form can only describe so much of a person.

My name is Alexandra, though I go by Ali. Randi and I have been friends for... oh... two... three years now? I am a freshman at Gaia University, studying biology. My favorite class is Latin. It comes very easily to me, for some reason. I love to swim and to dance, mostly ballet dancing, though. I have never understood the popular teenage bump and grind.

I plan on becoming an orthopedic surgeon, but who knows? I may change my mind at some point.

I enjoy action and adventure movies. The gorier and more sci-fi, the better. 'Underworld: Evolution' and 'Doom' are two of my all-time favorites. I also enjoy sci-fi and fantasy novels, such as the StarDoc series. Excellent, excellent series!

All right, I have to go clean up the house, so I'll write more later, when I feel inspired. I just wanted to introduce myself.

The Joys of College Life

It was a Friday evening, a blissfully peaceful and beautiful Friday evening. Class was done for the week, and Ali was truly in the mood for some relaxation time. What do do, though? Sleep, watch a movie... watch Animal Planet, Gaia Edition?

Either way, it first involved putting the backpack full of books somewhere that wasn't obvious. Under the bed... under the desk... AHA! She never cleaned behind her bedroom door. That was a good place to put it!

After that offensive object was out of sight (and mind), the young woman shuffled from her bedroom to the kitchen, which was a distance of ten feet, at most. She required a snack.

Boredom was about to drive her out of her mind. Her mind had already ventured off into the realms where no other dared to follow, being reeled in constantly as her mother yelled for her to do chores. Gah, she'd never escape!

"Randi, I need you to change laundry loads!" A small idea blinked up in her mind. Who do you see when you're bored? Ali, of course! And her friend could also help her get rid of the pesky problems that were chores. She went to her front door, grabbing her jacket off a chair in the dining room.

"Mom, I'm gonna go see Ali for a little bit. See you later." Before protest could come, she was already gone and headed briskly for the college. By the time she had arrived, she was surprised her parents hadn't followed after her. Ah, well, deny not a blessing.

She headed for Ali's room, whistling random notes into a malformed tune.

Ah ha! Popcorn! It was the ultimate snack when one had the munchies, and Ali, dressed in her favorite pair of sweatpants and the biggest, baggiest T-shirt she owned, shuffled back out of the kitchen, toward her tiny living room. Okay, so it just had the couch and a chair and TV, but hey, for a for such a small house, she was surprise she even had a living room.

She was walking past the front door when she thought she heard whistling. Was it? Yes, it was. Or... no... maybe she was hearing things. Better make sure. Popcorn bag clutched in one hand, she unlocked the front door and peeked her head out the door, glancing about. Was she hearing things?

A familiar scent drifted into her nose, making Randi's eyes light up. Popcorn! A smile drifted onto her lips as the whistling faded into memory at the sight of her friend. "Oh Aliiiiiiii." She called, grinning. She was in a good mood, and why not? No annoying chores or parents here. "Good afternoon!" Her hands had wound up in the pockets of her jacket, a small shiver running up her spine. Gah, she hated the cold.

Well, it appeared she wasn't losing her mind after all! There had been whistling! Ali grinned from ear to ear as she spied Randi on the approach. Ah. That made the day so much better. "'Ello! Come to visit me, have ye?" she said in a Scottish accent, assuming the accent for no real reason other than... well, because she felt like it. "Come in! Hot popcorn!" she declared, throwing the door wide open and nearly smashing her toe beneath it. "Ahhh... bad door," she scolded it.

Yes, she really was a mature college student.

Laughter bubbled up in her at the accent Ali had chosen for today. Unable to resist the lure of popcorn, she came nearer to the door. She and her father had a long standing tradition of eating the stuff at least once every week, and she could easily live off it for days at a time (Not that her parents ever gave her a chance to experiment with that theory.) Glancing at the door, she gave a small growl. "Bad doors aren't good."

"Very... not... good..." Ali said rather lamely, stepping aside so that Randi could actually fit in through the doorway. It wasn't so much that the doorway was small or she was large; she was just in the way, as usual. "I was just going to turn on Animal Planet or something, but this is better. I was wondering if you'd ever visit," she blabbed on rather uselessly. Four classes and a three-and-a-half-hour boring lab did tend to melt the useful brain cells. She couldn't help that she was being strange.

And rather stupid.

"My parents keep making up ways to keep me busy. I hardly ever have a chance." Lamented the fifteen year old as she stepped through the doorway, looking back at her friend. "They don't think I have a social life. Can't say I blame them." She had never been much for crowds. The limelight wasn't hers to ensnare. "Anything interesting happening to you?"

Ali made a gagging noise and pulled a face. "Ewww... sounds like what my parents used to do," she sighed, closing the door behind her friend. "I have no social life either. My life exists here and at class," she said with all the wisdom of the unsocialized introvert. She shuffled by Randi, beckoning the other girl toward the little living room. "Interesting? Baaaaaah. If you call dissecting a flower and doing a ton of drawings of angiosperms and gymnosperms 'interesting'... then yes. Other than that, school is school."

"My life exists everywhere, I'm just not there to be a part of it." Randi gave a small yawn, scratching idly at a place on her neck. Following after Ali, she gave a small shrug. "There only thing at school even worth thinking about it Genetics at the moment." So interesting, she thought. It sure beat the crap out of organelles in the cell. Yuck!

"Ooooh, deep philosophical thoughts! They hurt my braaaaain!" Ali said with a dramatic swoon, the back of her free hand pressed against her forehead in an appropriately overdramatic gesture. Really, they did. It was Friday. She comprehended little except the most basic of ideas. Ahhh.... couch! She bounced down unceremoniously on one edge of the couch. "Ahhh... better! Kick off your shoes, take a seat, have popcorn!" she said, holding out the open popcorn bag.

A chuckle rolled in her throat at the older girl's silliness. Silly people rocked her socks, to put it bluntly. Her other friends were all goofy in their own way, and she... well, suffice it to say no one would let her have apple juice. Ever. She nodded, kicking off her shoes and bounding across the room to land on the couch. A spring in the couch poked up as she adjusted herself, wincing slightly. There was a reason people told her not to do that, she supposed. She was going to break something someday.

Darn it! Why hadn't she thought of jumping on the couch?! Ali grinned as Randi landed on the couch, nibbling on a piece of popcorn. "Ahhh... pokey thing up the butt?" she asked, noticing the wince. She always sat on things on the couch. And stubbed her toes on furniture. Accident-prone: that was the word.

"So... what's up these days? School exciting?" she asked, still holding out the popcorn bag and nibbling on her own piece.

"Yeah. Stupid pokey thingies." Sticking out her tongue, Randi crossed her arms. One hand snuck out at the offered popcorn bag, diving inside the opening before emerging victorious with a few kernals as its prize. She popped one into her mouth, a contented look passing over her face at the familiarly wonderful taste. Ah, popcorn... Mmm-good.

At Ali's question, her head wagged back and forth. "School's almost never exciting. We had Red Ribbon week this week though." She pushed up the arm of her jacket to reveal a red band around her arm with the words ingraved 'I Pledge To Be Drug Free', to which a surprising amount of people had replied 'It's too late for that'.
