"I've done that before," Christopher tried to jest along with his friend. "Quite relaxing... however it came to an abrupt halt when I submerged myself fully. I don't think I was ever startled awake so quickly. Wait. Amend that... Besides tonight's little fiasco."

Being able to relax slightly and lose his edge, Christopher examined his own new changes too. He sighed with relief and wiped his brow when he saw that nothing had gone any further than it should. He'd be able to enjoy this after all. However, it would be too soon to try to embrace them after such a strenuous night. "So, are you ok? You're not too sore are you?"

Glacus spat out a small amount of , and answered, “I think I’ll be fine. Thanks for asking.”

“But what about you?” It was time for Glacus to be a good friend now, “You said you had a nightmare, and you looked pretty shaken up when I found you out side the lake, do you want to tell me it?” Glacus asked very carefully.

Christopher tried to evade the question, not wishing to dive back into that dream so soon. "You're sure you'll be ok man? You coughed up the insides of your throat for crying out loud."

But gazing into his friend's eyes, he sighed and hesitantly replied, "Alright, alright. I'll tell you..."

Christopher filled Glacus in on the details on how earlier that night when he was awake, Chris had thrown a message in a bottle into the ocean. It was a message to his parents that would explain that he was fine and how much he loved and missed them. He even told Glacus how Chris had even been careful enough to not leave any fingerprints on the bottle or note as he wasn't looking to be found and thus bring punishment upon himself. He just wanted his parents to know he was alright.

Then Chris explained how he went to bed and had the nightmare. He began to change into a full blooded wolf and had no ability to speak. Moreau came into his duplex not long after and told Christopher that because of his little stunt with the message in the bottle, Chris would now be sent away to a zoo and taken away from all that he had established here. That's when he fled for it and ran to find Erik.

Christopher almost began to break down once more when he explained that Erik didn't even recognize him at first. When he did and tried to help, it was too late. Moreau arrived with backup. They shoved Erik out of the way and beat him up, then knocked his little brother out and carried him away. Then Chris was captured and shipped off the island to a zoo.

But then came the worst part, Christopher bursted out into hysterics when he explained that when he woke up, he immediately started to change and as such, thought the nightmare was really coming true. After he finished explaining, Christopher wiped his eyes and tried to regain his composure.

"Did you do something too?" Christopher inquired, tears still streaming. "Did you try to contact your family at all?"

Glacus climbed on his rock, and told him. “Yesterday I found my trunk of clothing caught in a tree’s roots from the ship I arrived here on. I think the ship was detonated to cover up my disappearance.”

Tears welled in his own eyes, now as he continued, “Actually I have sent nothing, and it’s better if they think I’m De.ad. If they knew i was alive, but they could never see me again, it would crush them. What do you think I should do?”

Sinking further into the water, Christopher sighed, "I really don't know what we should do... I just wish we could see our families just one last time. ...I made the bad mistake of including a photo from when I was 5 with my parents. That was the only picture I had of me with them. But I wanted them to know for sure it was me if they ever got the note."

Chris buried his face in his hands and muttered, "I guess the horror is finally surfacing its ugly head... I just don't want to lose you guys. You are all I have left... Erik, you, Minna... You guys are my family now and after tonight, I'm terrified of losing you all."

"However, I doubt you feel the same way. I know you just want to get out of here. And I can't say I blame you much either." Christopher finished his words.

Turning his head up high to see his friend on the rock, Christopher begged, "Glacus, just tell me how you feel for a while, please. I'm getting sick of talking about this kind of stuff and about myself. I know you have a lot on your mind too so just get it off your chest."

“It’s not that I undervalue you guys or wish to lose any of you. You guys are all I have left, and especially you, because i don’t really know too many people, I know Minna only from the incidents thus far and all of them have ended in disaster. Cardiac Arrest, Agony, Shark attacks Nightmares…”

And then it all came out. Glacus exploded, everything he kept pent up since he’d been here for three months came out.

“I know you had plans for your life, I was supposed to go to Rome next year!!! I’ll never, ever get that!! Now I’m just a puppet to that sick demented freak of a doctor!!! There isn’t even a church on this accursed place!” He calmed down, and tried to control his raging emotions.

“ Imagine what our lives could have been like if we came here without the lies, without Moreau’s deceit? How many lives has he irrevocably ruined? Minna lost her shot at mo.deling, I can’t finish college, and you, your dreams have been thrashed too, haven’t they?”

Glacus was silent, it was out. Chris knew now.

“I’m sorry, I should not have said that.” Glacus tried to apologize, but he knew it was hopeless.

Christopher shrunk back like a puppy when Glacus finally allowed himself to burst out. It was not his friend's sudden rage that frightened him, but the words in his confession. This was because Christopher's plans for the future truly were not ruined, considering the one exception of seeing his family again.

"You don't have to apologize, really..." Christopher broke eye contact. He couldn't stare his friend in the eyes with what he was about to say. "As I can still go through with my plans. All I really wanted was to experience what this..."

Christopher runs his hands over his fur and face to demonstrate what he means.

"...would be like and to be a father someday. I can still have that. But none of you guys will be able to experience your plans and for that, I feel selfish. I feel really selfish and like a freak... That I can be so accepting of what is being done to me because of how badly I wanted to know what it was like."

Christopher closed his eyes and awaited his friend's reply, dreading a verbal disowning at the very least. The fact he didn't care if he so called lost his humanity was appalling to most and he knew it. He personally felt like he was only gaining but others had been looking down upon Chris for being so nonchalant. It was only a matter of time before his friends began doing the same as well.

“That’s one thing I may never get. How many “Merfolk”, lets call me that, have you seen on this island? I seriously doubt that I’ll get to have a family.”

And Glacus could almost guess his thoughts, and by his cringing, Glacus new that Chris wasn’t afraid of de-humanization, and Glacus words must have cut him like knife.

“In all honesty, I used to want this. To get away from it all and become a merfolk.” Glacus knew that if he was still capable of blushing, he would have, why was he talking about this still? His mind was screaming shut the hell up! But he didn’t.

“Can you believe that me Mr. Super Conservative R.C. would be in church praying for something like this? It’s almost like God’s getting vengeance, for thoughts like that.” He couldn’t believe he had said that. He never told anyone that, not even Augusta.

“I guess the grass is always greener isn’t it? Well I guess it’s better that I never told anyone. My dad would have probably put me in an asylum if he knew…”

Christopher opened his eyes and cheered up a little when he heard his friend's confession. Getting out of the water and crawling onto the rock to sit beside Glacus, he replied, "I'm glad I'm not the only one here who wanted to experience something like this... But be glad you never did have get thrown into the loony bin like I did."

Becoming an open book, Christopher finally admitted to his friend about the accident that occured when he was shooting A Moonlight Lullaby. He explained how he took a tumble off a cliff in the woods and how he had to kill Lyall (the wolf) because of her terrible injuries that would make her die a slow painful death. He quickly pushed along through the story about how he was lost in the woods for a week with a broken leg and when he was found, he had gone insane, was feral in behavior, and suffering malnutrition which landed him quickly in the hospital and straight to a mental institution right after.

Unlike last time, Christopher zipped right through the explanation with no problems. He spoke rather nonchalantly but still choked up at some of the harder parts slightly.

"So, I guess we all have our little secrets, don't we?" Christopher added with a grin. "I really wish we could have met under better circumstances. I just don't understand why Moreau couldn't have selected us because of our desire to experience this and been truthful about it. Maybe everyone here wouldn't be so restless if he had only just handled it honestly..."

Then it hit him. Quickly turning to Glacus, he asked, "Glacus? Did you ever tell your professor about your wanting to be a merfolk? Did he have any idea?"

“That’s a shame, I can’t imagine what that must have been like for you. I was never in tune with nature, except the fact that I was in 54 degree water for over an hour once, and didn’t get cold.”

“Unfortunately I never told him. He found my sketchbook, and told me that it was dream, he threw it against the ground. I believed him at the time he was just trying to help me. That was the last day I remember seeing my narrative.” Glacus stopped cold….

“He sold me out to Moreau, with my own work. He must have mailed the narrative straight to Moreau. And that must be how he picked my serum. And that means…” Glacus glanced towards his legs hoping that he didn’t have to explain it Chris.

Glacus interrupted himself by splashing water against his gills, and then he continued. “But now I’m okay with that… I wonder if Moreau still has the narrative”

Chills travelled up Christopher's spine when Glacus paused so suddenly. There was something more there. There was nothing worse Chris hated than to be left on suspense... knowing something was there but unaware of exactly what it was.

"And that means he knows what Glacus?" Christopher inquired, feeling on edge.
PostPosted: Tue Sep 19, 2006 9:14 pm

“It means that he knows my reaction to each stage, and he knows my personality down to a note.” That thought scared Glacus.

“And that he knows I’m going lose my legs…He’s counting on that.”

"But if you know what's to come and if he's counting on this," Christopher began, staring right into Glacus as if to lend him a strength. "...Then can't you beat Moreau at his own game? If you know what to expect, then you can prepare yourself mentally for it."

Gazing about the island for a moment, Christopher paused in his speech. This place was designed to be a doubled edge razor for many. Not only do people have to endure being turned into something different against their will, but the place was a mockery of the life they once had and would no longer grasp. For some, they wouldn't even be able to relish in the pleasures of typical acitivites because they would lose the ability to perform certain skills that came with the participation.

Like Branwan... She'd no longer have any hands to manipulate. Moreau was laughing at them all, kicking them when they were down. That mad b*****d wanted everyone here to suffer. He was simply cruel and heartless. The man had no deceny or good cause behind his actions. There never even appeared to be a gray area behind the doctor. Moreau truly was just rotten to the core.

Speaking up once more, verocity in his voice, "He wants us to suffer. Don't you see? He's... He's relishing this! But we can beat him at his own game if we don't cave and if we learn to embrace what is happening to us. He wants us to come crawling to him when we're pitiful and desperate. Let's not give him that satisfaction."

Christopher held out his hand and waited to see if his friend would take it. Would he join forces with him on this one?

At the word “Moreau” Glacus’s dorsal and arm fins became rigid, almost like a defensive mechanism. Glacus loathed the man, with every inch of his being.

“I’m in, tell me what to do!” Glacus figured if there were ever a resistance, he would be of some help, considering he was a walking weapon now.

“Maybe instead of fighting the changes, I should embrace them. Starting now, I’m starting over.”

"Embracing the changes is a start," encouraged Christopher. "If he can't get to us that way, that'll really bite him in the a**. Also, I'm thinking of using the film club as a front for a revolution of sorts."

Leaning in closer, nearly whispering, Christopher explained his plan. "I'm thinking of making videos with double meanings. The hidden meaning would obviously be something along the lines of don't cave in and get kicked around. Granted, it's not a lynch mob movement, but a way to build up a strength in the other islanders. Learn to not rely on Moreau and his 'pity' for their predicaments."

Chris paused for a moment. "Do you think that's a good idea? Afterall, the only way to truly make something potent to bite back with is to brew it over a period of time. And they do say entertainment has a way of enchanting people with its' magic..."

He formed a huge grin.
