Flicking an invading insect off of an ear, Waka started to turn back. There was nothing here, and she longed to be back in the protecting shade of the cliffs. Ambling back, a slight breeze brought a familiar scent to Waka. Ah, the herd. They would be slow and easy targets. But hunting in this kind of heat would be dangerous. The hunt would have to wait for tonight...
Nearing the cliffs, Waka caught yet another familiar scent. So, Sumba had returned from her rounds. No doubt taking a rest. Waka was torn in leaving her sister be, or a confrontation. In the end, the idea of small talk won out. Waka liked to talk, much like the lionesses of the Pridelands. But they were more different than the same. Oh yes, much different. Waka doubted any of the Pridelanders had killed anything but a meal. Waka, on the other hand, had been in part of the cold-blooded killing of her fellow lion. And she enjoyed every minute of it.
Reaching the base of the cliffs, Waka peered up, knowing Sumba was somewhere higher up. "The Hunt will be good tonight, sister." Waka started, playing somewhat absent mindedly with her dust covered tail tuft. She knew how Sumba liked her rest.

Auds alert to the ever so familiar voice Sumba need not even open her eyes to gaze down at her sister. A grin crossing her serious maw. Having wondered when she should return and also strategising the hunt she had known. It was going to be an incredible hunt. The herds having not had shade to rest must move to keep from dying and await the pure cool of night as their miracle. An exhausted target is best for the lean hunting group. Opening her orbs to the darkening sky she peered over the edge to reply. "That it will, a very good hunt".
She senced an uneasiness on Waka's mind but left her to her own and tensed up her muscles before hurdling off the ledge and making a subtle landing among her sisters presance. A graceful jump yet clouds of unsettled dirt wandered past her. Eyeing her sister idly. "How were your rounds? In check I assume" A sly grin once again etching itself on her maw. They were not ones to let something slip past on the outskirts.

The cub whined, its back felt like it was on fire.. he wasn't sure why.. so all the newborn could hope to do was squirm and cry for his mother. but then again.. in the back of his mind he knew that calling for his mom wouldn't bring her back from the dead. He knew that, but he cried anyways, in hopes maybe something else would save him.
Yakuti's ears flicked, she was obviously annoid from the whining.. she didn't want to hurt it, and the noises just made her maturnal heart strings get tugged every witch way.. and on the other hand er.. paw, her paranoia was at full streangth. anything could kill her or the cub right now and with the cub screaming like that it was just a matter of time. She had to get to her den..
she continued on walking backwards hoping she was going the right direction, she thought she was.. but the few gusts of wind that wound around the dunes could move any smell and lead her the wrong way..
She, eventually, made it back to the small narrow hole that lead to a much larger hole that was her home, sweet, home den. she dragged the cub down inside it, luckally he fit.. but they were about the same size at the moment. She decided she'd have to make it bigger later, when it wasn't so hot.
the cubs crying stopped a bit as the feeling of cool sand met his acheing back. This wasn't too bad.. so.. he decided to be nice and settle down for the moment. Then his stomac remidned him.. he wanted food. So he started up the annoying highpitched mewls that translated to "i'm hungry"
She glared at the cub, her ears were horribly sensitive.. and the den was just concentrating the sounds. She gave a reasuring nuzzle to the cub and regretfully climbed back out of her den.
Peeking her head out her ears swivvled around as she scanned the area for any preditors before climbing out

Jifyo watched her mother and aunt from her shady spot. Perhaps they would be going hunting soon. They day was almost gone or maybe it would be a night hunt! Jifyo streatched before moving to join them. Perhaps this was her chance to join her mother in the hunt! Eyes glittering with excitement of the idea Jifyo stalked behind her mother, watching her tail for the moment to pounce!

Staring into her sisters eyes she saw a shadowed reflection. Flipping her auds back and listening. Ah.. a cub. The grin dissapeared from her maw and was replaced with a soft smile before she turned abruptly and pounced Jifyo. "Ive got you now".
Wrestling the small cub to the ground and nudging the fur on her crown so that it stuck up.

"Okay okay! You got me! Rawrr.." Jiyfo rolled back onto her feet, "Mom... you're making my fur stick up funny!" Rubbing a paw over her face she did her best to get the hair back down before tackling her Sumba's paw. "So I get to go hunting with you this time right? I've gotten really good at stalking mudhoppers," she said with pride in her voice.

"Of course they were. I doubt anything would get this far in the heat, anyhow." A sly smile was beginning to creep upon Waka's maw. "If I did happen to see anybody, I would of brought them back to work. Dama and slave boy seem to be slacking these days."
Sharp eyesight catching movement behind Sumba, Waka held her tongue as she spotted her niece, ready to pounce upon Sumba's tail. But, ah, too late. The hunter became the hunted as Sumba pounced Jifyo. Giving Jifyo a 'better luck next time' type of look, Waka eyed the two for a moment before speaking. "Oh yes, mudhoppers make excellent meals."
Analyzing Jifyo, Waka went silent again. The cub was growing, no doubt about that. It seemed like every time Waka looked, the cub had sprouted another inch! But she wasn't sure if she was ready for the Hunt yet. But, after all, it was Sumba's decision. "What do you think, sister? Will you let this almost-but-not-quite lioness join us on the Hunt? She's got to learn sometime."
((Rouge, uh, Kiu can come along and demand to know where his food is. XP *Shrugs.* ))

Exalla Taka had kept a good amount of a space between them and was more that a little unsure of herself a she paced up the mountain. Her claws were sure to be worn down after this little trek. His growl made her slow down though, laying her belly onto the jagged rocks so that he woudl not catch sight of her. And then she caught a glimpe of white in his mouth.
The cub mewed louder and fiercer again, though only as fierce as a newborn cub like him could get.
Eyes flitting two and fro, Kitwana's attention was inexplicably drawn into the rocky slopes, he knew something was there, but even his sharp gaze could yet pick out any enemy or prey. Continuing his slow upward scramble, the slave of the Blood was now on the lookout for the eyes he knew were cast upon him, and a suitable place in which to leave the youn cub. If the gods really had chosen to bless the runt, they would find him amongst the rocks, far from their grandfather and his wrath, and far from the beating Kitwana expected once he returned. Makadari had been angered on this day, and Kitwana seemed to be his favourite punching bag.
Ahead of him a way lay a flat rock, dull and worn, warmed by the constant harsh desert sun beating down upon it. On this makeshift altar would Kitwana leave the cub, an offering to the gods, should they choose to bless him, as the whisperings of old fools of slaves, ever hopeful of release, predicted.

Jifyo grinned at her aunt. This was something she had always dreamed of doing. Hunting with her mother to bring in the meals that kept all of them alive in the harsh territory that they lived in. "Do you really mean that? I know mudhoppers aren't much of a meal, but they are hard to catch," She said leaping over to her aunt and nuzzling her. "I promise I'll be really quite and I'll stay back from the horns and hooves like I see you two do all the time. Besides if I don't learn I'll never be a huntress like you two are. What better way to learn?" She said turning to her mother and giving her a big smile.

The cub growled as it was set down on the rick, it's thin coat of ivory fur not thick enough to protect it from the hot surface. Mewing again, the cub tried hard to focus it's eyes on the soul that had set him here but instead caught a brief flash of gold behind the lion in front of him. He quited and tried to move on his flimsy feet but only suceeded on flopping on his stomach.
Taka's gaze was suddenly snagged to the cub's blank non existant stare. Is it blind, she thought to herself, questioning the notion as his roamed over Kitwana again. She was intrigued greatly by the cubs coloration and eyes but why would this lion do such a thing? Abandoning cubs high up in a mountain was not common among lions or any animal for that matter.

(gaias beign a buttmunch >> and i'm rping with myself xd go me.)
Yakuti gave a slight growl making her way once again into the hot desert against her will. The coast had been clear.. up, left, right.. ahead of her. behind her. And even down. You could never be too careful.. That was her motto atleast.
Though, as she trotted along hunting for a small bug or two, she wondered if she could get the cub to eat a whole bug? it didn't have teeth... ugh. she'd have to chew it and spit it out wouldn't she? The thought didn't appeal to her much. That was somethign wild dogs did, not foxes.. well atleast not this fox. Maybe her quirky personality was why she hadn't gotten a mate yet? She paused, checkign the area again, and pondering this.. "Nah." she continued her hunt deciding that the reason she hadn't gotten a mate is there weren't to many foxes out here.
Yep. that was it.

Unsure, Sumba stood in thought. It had been a cast day and the beasts would be worn. This was to be an important hunt and Sumba couldn't jepordize it by bringing a cub. Two outcomes tearing her mind in half. Peering down at the dry earth below and extending sharp blades to paw at it, Sumba hen looked up.
"Waka if you can carry my burden I guess I could stay back and keep an eye on this one." She stood, " Jifyo, you may hunt. This will determine wether or not I will allow you to hunt in any of the upcoming seasons. My tolerance of a slip-up is very low. The pride needs this hunt to be successful and were at a perfect advantage." The sky drew darker and she could sence more movement among the cliffs. Hunting time should be soon.

"I will not fail you, sister." Waka was confident of her hunting skills, and tonight should be a fairly easy hunt. But if she failed, it would be a terrible loss..."What of Walii? Should we bother her, or leave her behind like last time? The poor dear is getting on up there in age." Waka exaggerated the word, not particularly liking Walii, but being able to tolerate her at times.
Giving a hurried glance at the darkening sky, Waka paced forward a few steps. Turning back to look at the two, eyes glowing in the evening light, she announced with a hint of anticipation in her voice. "It is time." They need not wait for more lionesses, for there were none, and Waka hoped that tonight Walii wouldn't notice them slip off. Walii would not approve of a cub coming along on the Hunt...
