Seth was a very tired and grumpy person to say the least. After travelling for well over 26 hours, his patience, tolerance, and general humor levels had all but sunk to zero. He had entertained himself during the flights for some hours by turning on his trusty laptop, but once he had expired out the batteries to 0% charge, there was nothing more for him to do.

Initially, he had been excited at the prospects of flying to a new country, a new place to see. But he was also nervous as hell, due to the fact he was carrying valuable items acquired by less-than-legal means with him on his 12,000 mile cross-continent journey. He was still amazed at the fact he had gotten through Australian Departure Customs with his cargo undetected, but then again it wouldn't exactly be anything that Customs typically looked for. In fact, they had paid more attention to his laptop's internals and it's bag contents. The same thing had occured when he had arrived in Los Angeles International Airport, he just cleared immigration, had his passport stamped, explained the purpose of his visit (which he had lied about and said it was a holiday), and was sent on his way again. The domestic flight across continental US was nothing worthy of comment.

He had arrived in the Florida Keys a number of hours ago now, and had approached the sleek helicopter that would take him to the place he was supposed to go, his final destination. The helicopter ride would have been more fun if he wasn't so tired. He only glanced out the window with mild interest and fidgetted with the sleeves of his coat, snatching a few minutes of sleep where he could.

As the island came into view and slowly came closer from its place on the horizon, Seth glanced out the window with mild interest. The nervous feeling returned to him with a vengeance and he had to pinch his arm to keep himself level-headed.

"Bloody hell," He thought to himself. "This place is quite a bit bigger than I guessed. That doesn't matter though, I'm not even going to be here that long. Just arrive, be friendly, give them the goods, get paid and be rich, then bugger off and go to the bahamas or something."

The helicopter landed with a bump, causing the nervous man to jump, startled by the jolting movement. He had been aware it was coming, but that hadn't made it any less bothering for him. He was too worked up for his own good.

"Gotta calm down, keep it together, man." He muttered to himself, fumbling through his pockets for his bag of mints.

Sabin cheked his watch. James, as usual, was right on time. Sabin had become rather impressed with the stony pilot. Despite his surge of independence, he had gone back to doing his job, and doing it well, without complaint. And for a couple hundred mile flight in a chopper over the ocean, he kept to good time.

Today was an interesting one, according to the files. An Australian courier, bringing a rare sample of Thylacine DNA. He was servicing as a courier for some museum curator that the labs were supposedly bribing a great deal of money... but the man he was sending was a nobody, with no attachments and a rather shifty character. the labs were originally actually going to payup, meeting the curator in Florida with a suitcase of money.... but when he was 'too busy' and too worried about being caught to go himself... well... Moreau found a way to save a great deal of money, and get a new subject while he was at it.

Sabin steadied his top hat out of habit as the chopper touched down, and waited for the rotors to slow and finally stop and the door to open before approaching with a genial smile.

"Mr. Callaghan... a pleasure to meet you. My name is Dr. Duvert." He reached out a hand to help him down, taking in the stubble on his face and the... girth of the man.

Seth climbed out of the helicopter, mentally complaining to himself at how big the step was. He hugged one hand over his laptop bag in a rather protective manner, his other hand grabbing out for Sabin's as he stepped down onto the sandy dry ground.

"Uh... hi there. Call me Seth if you like." He grinned at the man immediately, wanting to give him a friendly impression right from the word 'go'. He turn the initial hand contact into a half-assed handshake, staring at him for a moment longer than usual as he had never seen a man with such strange coloured hair before.

"Duvert? That's an unsusal name. Nice hat." He offered. "My mother has a eiderdown-like bedspread she calls a 'duvet', but it's not the same thing, now is it. Ha ha."

Seth slung his laptop carry case bag to his right side and reached back to scratch the back of his head. "Are you the bloke I'm supposed to be meeting? I um," He paused, quickly racking his brains for an explanation incase this wasn't the right person to meet. "I'm supposed to deliver something to somebody. I know this is the right place because that's what the helicopter guy told me, but er, now I don't know where I'm supposed to go."

Sabin returned the grin, helping him down the steps and going for any luggage tha the wasn't carrying.

"Yes, something like that. They are both French, you see. Only my name does not mean 'downy feathers'." He added with a chuckle.

"And I must say, I am rather fond of the hat. Not many are, but they can go .. well, you know the rest." He caught himself before elaborating, still not knowing the man well enough.

"And you have come to the right place. We've been expecting you, Mr. Callaghan. Just follow me up to the labs and we'll... inspect the goods."

He gestured to the jeep, the passenger door open.

Seth wandered over to the jeep casually, and sat in the passenger seat.

"Yeah, mate. I'll do more than show you the goods," He relaxed into the seat and began to loosen the knot in his tie, frowning at the heat. He had been in an air-conditioned helicopter before, and before that, the planes. Outside here was considerably warmer and he was beginning to feel it now. "You can do what you like with them afterwards. The pelt would make a nice throw rug for the floor, I think."

He glanced over to the driver's seat and slowly shook his head.
"I still don't understand why the steering wheel is on the other side of the vehicle up here. In Australia, we drive on the left side, the steering wheel is on the right side of the car. I don't know how you can stand to drive on the wrong side of the road."
PostPosted: Fri Sep 15, 2006 12:24 am

Sabin took his seat by Seth in the driver's chair and gave him a grin. "throw rug? I think that there's a bit more in the works for the pelt than that... but admittedly, it would make for a conversation piece!"

Sabin gave a nod to James, and the helicopter began to lift off.

"Well, this isn't the palce to take a look at it. All the humidity would be bad for it. So just sit tight, and we'll make sure everything's in tact, and get you your money." He gave him a wink as he shifted the jeep into gear, and headed down the dirt road.

"Ohhh.... I dunno... it just takes acclimitazation is all." Sabin replied to the car comment as he maneuvered the car through the narrow, twisted dirt road. The jungle, encroaching tightly on either side made it very obvious that it was barely wide enough for the jeep. Sabin, however, appeared undaunted as he took the curves at white-knuckle speed.

Seth seemed rather unhappy with the fast bumpy ride, and gripped onto the door beside him. Though he had to admit, the wind in his face was cool and pleasant.

"I have something else you might be interested in," Seth grinned. "You'll have to have a look. It's quite special I think."

"Bloody hell!" He exclaimed as the jeep suddenly jolted on its path. "You drive like a maniac." Seth instinctively ducked as the branch of some weedy plant sailed over his head. "How far are we going, exactly?"
PostPosted: Fri Sep 15, 2006 12:33 am

To which Sabin just laughed. "I shall take that as a compliment!" He called back, raising his voice to be heard over the motor and the wind.

"Not very far, though... just a couple miles up the road.... you'll see... and then I will have to see what else you've brought!"

And indeed, it wasn't very much further. The trees stopped abruptly at a large gate with the Feral Labs logo emblazoned across it. Then, the gate swung open as if it anticipated their arrival, opening into a parking lot, and a massive laboratory facility built into a mountain.

"Here's our stop!" Sabin announced as he found a place to park and got out of the jeep, grabbing Seth's extra luggage.

Seth's attention was glued ahead of him as the massive complex came into view down the path. It certainly was a sight to behold to say the least. It also looked... expensive. Which was good. Very very good.

"Feral labs," He mumbled to himself as he noticed the logo on the side of the building. "Interesting name. That would make sense too, especially considering what I'm handing over here."

Seth grabbed whatever of his luggage was left and stepped out of the jeep.
"Nice place." Seth mused. "It must be good to have a fancy place like this on a tropical island. You never need to go on holiday - when you get sick of work, all you need to do is step outside."

"Lead the way, Mister Duvert. I'm right behind you each step of it."
PostPosted: Fri Sep 15, 2006 12:48 am

If anything, the complex smacked of, it was a company that had a great deal of money to throw around. There was no other reason that the complex should be out in the middle of no where, on the most lush tropical island Seth had likely seen, on or off film. The beaches he had seen flying over the island, the whole, massive, mirrored complex, and the fact it was literally built into a mountain... that did not come cheap.

Sabin led him into a sliding door, that took them into a very plush lobby. Leather and wood couches, a huge bay window that overlooked the beach, thick carpeting, an (empty) receptionists' station... all of it seemed Very expensive... and also very new -like it was setting up for something that wasn't yet here.

"Feral labs, yes. The company's been expanding in leaps and bounds over the past few years... I wouldn't be surprised if there werent' a few branches in Aussie-land." Sabin beamed. "I won't bore you with the specifics, but we started out as a veternary supply company, but... have expanded well beyond that to human medicine and genetics. But we don't forget our roots. And thus, yes, your object is of much interest to us."

"And it really is a holiday here... great beaches, jungles - it's like an adenture out there. Maybe you'll get the time to look around before your flight back."

He led him past the lobby and into a sterile, hospital-like corridor, and to steel elevator, which opened quietly as they walked up and Sabin put his hand to the metal plate.

"Floor four." Sabin pronounced, and the elevator leaped to life, surging upward.

Seth looked around in a rather curious alert fashion as he was led through the complex. It was lush, elegant... everything one would expect for an expensive company.

"To be honest, I haven't heard of a Feral Labs labs branch in Australia yet." Seth pondered to himself for a moment. "Maybe there's one in the states up from where I live, but I don't really know. I wouldn't be surprised if there was though, a lot of big multinational companies come down there to set up shop. Sure seems successful though. I'd see no reason why they wouldn't be successful in Australia. They're obsessed with preserving their endangered animals."

"Genetics is certainly interesting, but I never paid too much attention to it," Seth admitted. "Everyone knew when Dolly the sheep was cloned, but..." He paused, grinning. "If this company makes a real live thylacine tiger thing out of the pelt I've brought, it's going to be even more famous. Best of luck with doing it, everyone else failed so far I think."

The balding man followed Sabin into the elevator, yawning. He secretly hoped this would be over soon, as the desire to sleep was really beginning to catch up with him.

Sabin slid his hands into his pcokets with a proud smile. "Well, I'm sure if we don't already have a good foothold there, we will soon. We're pretty proud of our growing company."

"And I can understand why. I've read about the non-native species introduction and how it's decimating the natural wildlife. I hope that we are able to make ourselves a tiger. It would be a great leap for science... the first to bring back an extinct species!"

The elevator opened into another hallway, and Sabin led him down another corridoor, and to an office that had "Dr. Sabin Duvert" On the nameplate.

"Annnd... here we are. My office. And a good place to talk" Sabin opened hte door and stepped inside. The office, unlike the hallways, was dark, with solid oak desk and bookcases lining the walls. The subjects ranged from science and genetics, to anthropology, to myths and legends and monster books and even gaming books. Comfortable-looking chairs were in front of and behind the desk.

Sabin took a seat behind the desk, moving the desktop off to the side to open up more space.

"So... let's see what you've brought us."

Seth was jealous as he followed Sabin to his office. He wished he had an office of his own. This one was even more lavish than the boss of the bank he worked for.

"Wow, nice office," Seth complimented him. "You must be really high up to get something fancy like this!" The messy haired man dumped his bags on the floor beside the chair on the other side of the and sat down, beginning to fumble through his posessions. It did not take him very long at all to locate the wrapped paper parcel that he had been given to bring here. The London Museum's stamp was still intact - a good thing. It meant that the specimen had not suffered too badly in transit.

Seth picked it up and placed it carefully on the table.
"Now, onto business, ey? Here it is, our little furry flat friend." Seth slid the package across to Sabin, being careful not to knock over anything else of importance that he had set up on the desk. "Open it up. I hope it's to your liking."

Seth leaned back in the chair and began packing up his bag again. Before he did that however, he opened a secret compartment on the side, taking out the precious small sealed test tube that his friend had given him earlier. He patted it in his fingertips before slipping it into his pocket.

He curiously watched Sabin, wondering what his reaction would be. If the man was unhappy in any way and he needed to sweeten the deal now, at least he was ready to do so.

"Well, what do you think?"
PostPosted: Fri Sep 15, 2006 1:25 am

Sabin's fingers twitched as he made to open the wrapping of the parcel. Despite having been part of so many amazing projects here, still, the thought of opening up one of only a few very intact thylacine hides was still fascinating to the anthropologist.

Carefully, he peeled open the paper, and unrolled the furry bundle. He reached into his desk, pulling out a pair of rubber gloves and snapped them on as he looked over the hide. Indeed, it looked to be in very good shape.

"Excellent... Excellent." Sabin murmured to himself. This is in great condition.. and I bet we'll be able to extract some DNA from this." He then carefully rolled it back up and replaced it in the parcel, pulling the keyboard closer and typing in a few notes. "And... the offer was... six million, am I correct?" Sabin said it so casually...

A grin creeped across Seth's face. This time it wasn't friendly, it was one of intent. And greed. Thoughts of large monetary amounts began to seep into the man's imagination, which made his mood shift from tired to quite interested, and cunning.

"Ah yes that was the original offer," Seth began, reaching for his coat pocket. "But it was quite a headache to get it here, you know. It was a challenge to get through customs undetected. I have something you might be slightly more interested in than that old dusty pelt, especially if you're interested in extracting DNA from that creature. I'm sure it would be more worthwhile to your interests." He pulled the test tube out of his pocket and raised it up, though wasn't going to hand it over quite just yet, that was apparently clear. "This is the liver from that thylacine joey pup, the only one in existance that's preserved in ethanol."

He held it out closer for the other man to get a better look, still holding onto it for the time being.
"How much do you think something like this would be worth?"
