By For-Chan Cookie's standards, Lord of the Rings is not a fantasy because the main elements of the plot do not focus on fantastic elements. Sure, the characters are hobbits and elves and wizards and whatnot, but the plotline is about a quest, which could very well take place anywhere, no?

For-Chan Cookie princessMeep I'unno, I'd file Loveless under shounen-ai. (That's where it is in my book shelf, anyway.) I don't really buy this "officially" shounen-ai (or not, as the case may be) thing. I mean, it isn't yaoi, by any stretch of imagination, but there are enough hints there that I think it works. Works for me, at any rate. (Ditto Demon Diary and Pet Shop of Horrors.) If we categorized everythign based on hints, I'd be throwing Gundam Wing, Weiss Kruez, Hunter x Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho, Bleach, Naruto, and many many more in the mix. However, hints does not a Boy Love manga/anime make. While Loveless has the kissy kissy stuff and the I love yous and cuddles, they serve a different function within the story. Now of course, to most people, that's enough to make it BL in their minds, but it's not really how it's presented. You can think it is, but for the purpose of categorization, it isn't. BL manga typically focus on the Boy Loving first of all and any story elements secondly. Loveless, however, focuses on the mystery of the brother's death and Ritsuka's growth etc and so forth. The lovey dovey is just a bonding/binding method that Soubi uses. Hell yeah it screams "SLASHY!" But as I said, that doesn't make it Boy Love. Hm, that's very true, actually. I suppose I have never thought of it in that manner, and I can definitely understand the logic of it not being classified as BL now. I guess the reason I have always thought of it as BL is that Ritsuka and Soubi have a romantic relationship, though it isn't exactly lovers... it's really rather hard to categorize. Plus, the fact that while there are typiucally slashy moments in Shojo manga, it's usually unconfirmed, whereas the relationship between Ritsuka and Soubi is much, much more obvious. But it does seem to focus too much more on the core of the plot rather than Soubi and Ritsuka's relationship on the level of lovers. *blink* Sooo, it's a Shoujo manga with BL elements. *grins* Can't say the BL elements aren't an... added bonus, however. *___* Anyway, whether it's classified as BL or not is irrelevant to me in the end. It's still the most re-read and treasured manga on my shelf.

princessMeep By For-Chan Cookie's standards, Lord of the Rings is not a fantasy because the main elements of the plot do not focus on fantastic elements. Sure, the characters are hobbits and elves and wizards and whatnot, but the plotline is about a quest, which could very well take place anywhere, no? stare There's a decided difference between having boy love-ish moments and being a boy love manga. Loveless contains boy love-ish elements, but it's actual story is not about those elements. Therefore it is not a boy love manga, simply one with some boy love elements. Demon Diary has some hinty hints about Eclipse and Raenef, however it's a story about Raenef becoming a full fledged Demon Lord, it's not about Raenef's relationship with Eclipse, therefore it is not a Boy Love manga. Sailor Moon has boy love elements and girl love elements. It's neither BL or Shoujo Ai. It's a magic girl anime/manga. As I said, if some questionably slashy material is all it took to be BL, there'd be tons of titles out there that are BL. Hell, if you want to put it that way, Lord of the Rings would be Boy's Love. Look at Sam and Frodo! But it isn't. It's horribly slashy, but it is not a homosexual novel in any sense. Lord of the Rings has romance, but it is not a romance novel. It has war, but it's not a war novel. It has a lot of things, but nobody holds it against it. People don't sit around and argue that "OMG! There's romance in there! It's so obviously a romantic homosexual love story!" Stories can have different elements, such as splashes of slashiness, without being pigeon-holed into a genre. Containing a hint of something is a lot different from being something. So I say again, hints of slashiness does not a Boy Love manga make.

Sometimes I think that limiting a book to one genre is rather hard anyway.

Okay, I dont reccomend Alone in My King's Harem.
.. maybe its just me but I just couldnt get into it at all. The ukes looked way too much like girls.. it was like reading guy/girl instead of yaoi crying And I also had the feeling that the semes were kinda older than the ukes, so its not for people who dont like shota x__x
The only story that was halfway good was the last one. With the student council prez. and the man-whore.
Like I said, maybe its just me. But that book freaked me out a little bit sweatdrop

Why'd you cross our Il Gatto Sul G? D= That was one of my favorites because of the pretty art and characters...even though I admit it uses a lot of recycled elements (ie violinist, split-personality, etc), she still pulled it off. 3nodding But anyway... -Il Gatto Sul G(durr) -Little Butterfly -Kissing -La Esperansa (UGH! UGH! ><) -Loveless -Dear Myself

Lenre Li The Sky Over My Spectacles [cute like woah! <33] Yellow [yum!] Loveless
I want to read Desire, Passion, Antique Bakery... >.<; If only they had the formers here in Australia! xp Let's make this Christmas...
surprised You can't find them? When I DO find yaoi, it's always like twice the price of ordinary manga D; I own Desire ^^ it was cute, but not my cuppa tea. I really want Antique bakery though... Is it true that they have... scratch-and-sniff covers that smell like CAKE and SUGAR? If you have trouble finding the manga you want, maybe you could do your shopping online or request it from the store... Also, conventions or those HUGE intercity Borders stores usually have a lot of yaoi.
I'd also like to recommend these titles: Brother x Brother (Even if you aren't a fan of incest! READ!) Rurirrou Butterfly by Fujikawa Ruuri... I'm a big fan of this mangaka. Also, anything and everything by Yamada Yugi, Yamane Ayano and Sakurai Shushushu.
...a real scream~

Here is what lies on the Miko-chan's shelf:
Gravitation(Not technically yaoi or BL, despite the guy on guy scenes I know, but still good) Demon Diary(Again not BL, but close) Loveless(Once more, not Yaoi or BL despite kissing scenes) Until the Full Moon(See my above message) Gorgeous Carat(I must repeat again, there is some male/male action but it would not be classified as yaoi or BL -_- although it's awesome) FAKE Yellow Hero Heel(I DESPERATELY await volume 2 of this one.) Our Everlasting Junjo Romantica Jazz(This really wasn't my style and I thought the plot was a little lacking) Little Butterfly Gakuen Heaven(I found this to be a bit of a let down even with the hot and heavy action) Black Knight
