Wraith raised his eyebrows as Estrelas' pockets overflowed with supertitious objects. No matter what she said, she was definitely superstitious.
Wraith, however, was not. Certain events in his childhood had made sure of that.
He shook his head. "People are just scared of something that came out of the blue. As you can see, it's hazy and hard to tell exactly what it is. People fear the unknown. You, as Lotus recruits, are going to face things much scarier than this. Better to learn that now. Of course, if you want to stay here on shore, you're more than welcome to."

Estrelas flushed under her darkish skin.
"I am NOT cowardly; who do you think I am?" she demanded hotly. "....Sorry sah," she mumbled a guilty second later. "I thought that it would be nice to be prepared. In case there are evil spirits, there," she declared and just to prove she wasn't a scardy-bunny, took a few confident strides forward, a spring of mistletoe, a branch of aged oak, a bit of rosemary, a large blessed-iron cross, silver pendants, two minature Bibles, a totem charm, a mirror, salt, holy water, fresh water, salt water, a virgin's tears, a monkey paw, hair taken off a pure white dog, a black stallion's hoof, and lots of metal objects dangling off of her.
"I'm not SCARED! And I'm definitely not superstitious!"

Shane grinned down at the mess of holy object and other items that Estrelas carried with her. Superstitous... maybe a little, but he decided to not mention it. Reaching into his own shirt he drew out his own silver cross. "I've got one, but thanks love. Tis blessed by the priest back home." Not that it's done me much good, but who's to say.
Glancing out at the wreckage he was more worried at finding unstable boards and getting trapped underwater than ghosts coming aboard. He loved a good ghost story but when it came down to it... well he believed a little...
"Sure, and let's get this expedition started then."

Eponine was still very amused by Estrelas' continuous objections to the very obvious truth. However, not wanting to make her friend feel bad, she took the mirror. "May I take this?"
Who knew, maybe the mirror could be used to reflect light for a rescue signal.
"Well then, that's good. Just the unknown," Eponine repeated dully. Maybe this mission wouldn't turn out interesting at all - which was a blessing after the hectic chase in China. Here, it was go, look, come back. Hopefully. "Let's get going then, shall we?" Despite her confident words, even all her acting skills couldn't keep the slightest tremor from her voice.

Estrelas smiled. "Yes, mirrors... Many demons cannot see their reflections and will leave you alone if they see an empty mirror." She turned to Shane, admiring the silver cross. "Pretty," she commented. It shone brighter than her tarnished iron one. It was silver- did that mean Shane was a prince or nobleman of some sort? She wondered and considered sticking her tongue out at him just to see if he could summon a platoon of soldiers and cart her off to jail but decided against it.
"I'm not cowardly; I am not scared of... Whatever's there," she repeated proudly. "Shall we go soon?"

"Would it make you feel better if I took an item?" Sighing, Wraith reached towards the iron cross, which was the one easiest to grab.
"And I didn't necessarily say you were scared." A smile played about Wraith's lips, gone so fast that it would be hard to say it was there in the first place.
Getting into the boat, Wraith motioned the others to get in as well.

"Hmph!" Estrelas muttered with the aire of indignantly hurt pride. "I was not scared," she muttered and followed Wraith into the boat.
"So how long as the wreckage been here?" Estrelas asked. She recalled an incident when she was six, involving the village nutcase Loony Lobo.
Loony Lobo left a boat in the village duck pond and just slept there for a long while..... Two weeks later, he attempted to row it to shore, when the boat, rotted in water, decayed away and Loony Lobo was rescued with a bad case of chills.
"I mean.... Is it... Stable? Did anyone die- it might be...."

Okay. Superstitions were Officially Weird. Why would demons leave if they see an empty mirror? And why did demons have no reflections anyways? Eponine giggled at Estrelas. "No comment," she said as she jumped with abandon into the white boat, causing it to rock slightly.
The heat she loathed, but the smell of the sea she loved. It made her feel as if she was sailing far, far away from home. Bouncing up and down to try and get the boat rocking again, Eponine called to Shane, "Come on! Let's go!"
The sea was making her reckless.

Shane eased into the boat behind Eponine, Estrelas, and Wraith. Twas an odd group to be sure. Wraith seemed rather tired and bored with the whole situation, Estrelas looked to be extremely defensive, and Eponine... well she was acting much more... normal... than usual.
Scratching his head, he took a seat and kicked his feet forward, enjoying the rocking motion Eponine was causing. "Don't rock to boat to hard girly, otherwise we'll all be taking an early bath."

Estrelas grinned as the boat lurched underneath her. "This is exactly like riding a burro!" she exclaimed happily and hopped up and down with Eponine. The heat was making her reckless too, as if she were invincible.
"Say....... Where are the oars?" she asked. "How do we paddle without oars?"

As the boat rocked jerkily back and forth, Wraith face took on a sick sort of expression.
Why hadn't he just sent Shee or some other recruit on this mission again? His mind flashed to Shee chiding him about going out and meeting the new recruits instead of staying holed up in the library. She thought that the new recruits had some sort of right to meet him, or would appreciate it, or something like that. Probably not.
Holding a hand to his head, Wraith heard Estrelas ask him something about oars.
More bemused than in pain now, Wraith pointed towards the small motor attached to the back of the boat.
"Lotus can do a bit better than oars."
Wraith started the motor and they began to sail out towards the dazzling horizon.

Shane enjoyed the slight breeze and the smell of the salt water. Except for the heat it felt a lot like home and it had him smiling while he gazed out at the horizon. It seemed too many things reminded him of home lately. Twasn't a good sign really, he'd have to work harder on blocking Ireland out. Yeah... boy-o, that's really gonna happen.
Glancing toward the wreckage he wondered what they'd find there and what they wouldn't find. Could it have been a run of the mill wreck? Sure, and that would suit a normal expedition, but looking toward his ship mates... well it was just easier to say he was expecting SOMETHING to happen at least. It'd be more interesting that way at least, not that he didnt' appreciate some solitude.

Eponine giggled, perhaps sounding too giddy, at the sick expression on Wraith's face. "Don't you like the ocean?"
Once she settled down and got over the sea, the normal paranoia sunk back in. What if, by some random chance, the wreckage was the wreck of a boat on which the Manager had been on and he just happened to be one of the survivors? Huh? What then?
Eponine fought the urge to rock the boat more.
Um. "Wraith? How much longer until we reach it?"

"Normally, yes. When I don't sleep, however, the ocean makes me want to... well, we really shouldn't discuss that now."
Wraith was not coming up with excuses. Well, he was, but they really shouldn't be discussing trivial things at the moment, he thought as their boat came upon the wreckage.
Stopping the motor, the boat rocked gently on the cerulean waves in silence as the wreckage came into view.
It seemed to just be a massive pile of rotten boards, stacked one on top of another, Wraith thought to himself. There was probably more wood that had managed to sink to the bottom, but nothing horribly interesting.

Estrelas recoiled at the sent of wet rotting planks that filled her nostrils. She reflexively snatched up her iron cross, but then with a sigh, let it fall back on her neck.
"This is..........." Estrelas didn't see anything obviously haunted or dangerous, aside from a potential jump into the clear ocean. "....Well, will we be going onboard?" she asked nervously. The wreckage sent chills up her spine.
Well, you've been murking for an adventure, she thought. And I definitely got one here...
