Cameron passed the cofee shop with coffee. Looking inside, he found it was still crowded. But he did see a small corner where he could curl up in his music. "Well, why not get some food to go with it?" he asked himself, and entered towards the counter, making sure his CD player had enough batteries.

[[ohmy! Look how nicely this is taking off! *dances* yey for Mie's creating sweet threads ^^ ]]

As a rather interesting boy with a gray bob sat across from him, Kalen glanced up to take in his appearance. His eyes eventually fell on the ring... and he soon found himself running the pad of his thumb reminiscently over the base of his ring finger. It had only been nine months or so now...

'I don't miss him,' was the silencing thought before his eyes moved back to his paper, scanning over article by article. He felt some of the external heat begin to encompass and rejuvenate his chilled extremities. Especially his nose. Perhaps it was the fact that his scarf usually fell beneath it when he walked, but his nose was always the least protected, and quickest to freeze. Sipping on his tea, he decided that light pinkened touch to his nose had probably faded by now. His eyes scanned back over an article he was quickly losing interest in. It was about the trading of some crummy baseball player.

"Darn," he muttered, annoyed as he soon realized the only page he had was the sports page. He looked about the coffee shop, not really wanting to get up in search of the rest of the newspaper, for fear he'd lose his warm seat. Aha! There was another page or so lying on a table... where someone didn't seem to be actively reading it. Pulling his coat into his chair to try to 'save' his seat, he looked back at the boy across from him. He set the sports page down on the table between them and slid it over. "Here," he muttered, not too intimidated. The boy's partner didn't seem nearby... and he recognized the ring as a mage ring. What did he have to fear?

In the mean time, he strode across the room toward the darkly-adorned young man at the window. Coming up beside him, he tapped Skyy on the shoulder and pointed at the paper before asking in an undertone, "'Scuse me, were you intending to read that paper?" He pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose slightly.

Having the day off today, which rarely happened, Brice wasn't sure what to do with himself. Usually he'd just sleep the day away until he had to get up and go to work for the night, but today he just wasn't sleepy. Maybe it was because the temperature outside was a tad cooler than yesterday and his body was eager to feel the chill.

Brice hated most things that had to do with fire or heat, but he just couldn't go without a cigarette. At least one a day, which wasn't so bad considering he'd known people who smoked a pack if not more a day. The said cancer stick was currently poking out of his mouth, and bobbing up and down as he walked along the street passing others as they tried to get cabs or rush to work. People all bundled up from the cold weather would pause to give him strange looks, as Brice only wore a thin green zip up sweater, which of course he never zipped up.

His stomach grumbled, letting him know it wanted something, anything to be put in it. That morning he hadn't eatten, though he usually didn't, so his body had to complain. Glancing up a head he saw a coffee shop.

"Hmph, I would be hungry near a friggin heat house." Brice mumbled to himself. Coffee, his life long nemesis. Well... they should sell food there too. Maybe donuts or muffins, something edible that wouldn't be hot. Stopping in front of the door to the coffee shop he took one more puff on his cig and then dropped it, stepping on it to stub it out. Pushing the door open he stepped in, instantly regretting it. It felt like he'd walked into a sauna. Running his fingers through his bedhead mess of hair, Brice walked over to the counter hoping to grab something quickly and be out of there.

Shadi looked up, confused, as a paper was slided towards him. The Sport's page. He wrinkled his nose at it slightly. What a useless page. Unless, of course, he wanted to read a baseball player out. Or maybe the large sums of money they made. That would be much more useful, but Ger liked to keep a low profile and Shadi doubted that suddenly aqcuiring millions of dollors would go unnoticed. In today's society, there were bar codes and tracking devices on money so that the government always knew how much you had in your pocket... and there was some sort of limmit on that. At least, that's what he'd heard, although he couldn't remember where. Another thing to make him paranoid. So he declined to pick the paper up, opting instead to sip at his now slightly less scalding hot chocolate.

Skyy's front teeth caught the edge of his foam cup, dark eyes following that extended finger to the paper not far from himself. He had learned to stay away from glass cups whenever it was possible. It was too often he would shatter the glass by accidently letting it slip through his fingers. Foam was better on both himself and the workers.

Almost completely motionless, the teen just stared at the paper. After a held silence, making it seem as if he weren't going to respond at all, his gaze flicked back to the red-head. "I was thinking about it," was all he finally answered. Actually, the thought hadn't even crossed his mind. He hadn't really been aware of the newspaper's presence in the least, but now that it was pointed out, he didn't know if he wanted someone else to have it. There was always the slim possibilty he may want to pick it up and skim through page after page of mostly useless information. Why give it away?

"I haven't decided yet actually," he added. "You don't want it or anything, do you?"

Kalen anxiously glanced over at his seat, thankfully pleased that it hadn't yet been taken. He was 'thinking about it'?... how hard of a decision could it be? It was a newspaper! ... well, it happened to be his favorite: The New York Times, but that wasn't the point!

His pretty eyes settled back on Skyy, one brow quirked in a mix of annoyance and confusion. What did this guy think he came over for? To see if they used the same shampoo?

"Actually, yes, I would like it if you're not reading it... and somehow, I clearly see you aren't." As he finished his sentence, fingers itching to page through that paper reached out for it.

The moment Skyy spotted the motion of Kalen reaching, his own hand snatched out to grab it. Though his own movement was hasty, he made it seem casual enough. "Hn.. I said I might," he stated as if in explanation, setting his empty cup in the paper's place. "I'm sorry if I didn't speak up enough for you to hear." In no way did he sound sarcastic or aggravated. His voice remained at a smoothe, calm level.

He worked to fold the paper in half so only the top headline showed. Something about a disasterous fire in an old apartment building on downtown 3rd it seemed. He glanced up at Kalen looking as innocent as could be.

Kalen's fingers recoiled as the other caught the paper before he could get to it. Hearing the other's response, he found himself rather irked with the indecisive undertone to 'might'. How annoyingly selfish. He, who obviously wanted to read the paper for certain, was being slighted of a simple pleasure in life for someone who might or might not wind up reading it. The frown in his brow faded when a quitting sigh escaped him. "I'm so sure you are," he muttered before conceding, "Fine. Nevermind." Kalen could just go right back to his nice, warm place by the fire and rest for a few more...

As he turned himself around to return to his spot of choice, he swore quietly, "Damn it." Some half-wit stole his spot. Sighing and glancing over his shoulder at the apparently contented, selfish newspaper boy, he had to mutter under his breath, 'and I suppose you're so sorry for that too,' referring to the inevitable eviction. Making no small case of his clear upsetted nature that he'd just been ousted from his center of heat, Kalen swiftly went back to the fireplace and snatched up his things from around the intruder. He pulled his coat on, wrapped his scarf about his neck, and grabbed his messenger bag and gloves.

Shiyaa silently watched the boy with the news paper and the other man from behind the counter, an eyebrow raised. He then shifted his attention to the man who walked up.

"Can I get you anything?" he asked, smiling, although he was rather confused about the man's clothing. Looking at the man made him feel extremely cold, and he couldn't help but shiver a little.

Brice seemed to think for amoment as he looked at the menu. Coffee, nope. Hot chocolate, nope. Hot tea, nope. Anything hot, hell no. Wrinkling his nose not sure he then shrugged.

"Yeah, how 'bout an iced hazelnut coffee. Lotsa ice." he finally decided on. It was still coffee, but cold. Better than nothing. Reaching a hand back to his butt pocket, Brice pulled his wallet, which was thin and not very heavy, out and opened it up. Pausing, since his stomach had decided that coffee wasn't enough for it, Brice glanced at the menu again.

"Annnnnnd... uh a blue berry muffin I guess." Brice pulled enough dollars out to cover the charge, or estamatted charge, and waited for the kid to be down getting his stuff. Sighing, he had a feeling this was going to be a dull day.

Shiyaa nodded, slightly horrified at the thought of iced coffee during this season, but got it anyway. He brought the coffee and muffin to the man, then took the money.

" I hope that's enough ice," Shiyaa said, staring at the cup. His adopted son was staring at it from his seat at the counter as well. Shiyaa patted his head, then looked back to the man, holding out several coins," Here's your change..."

Cameron walked up to the counter, almost triping over a guy who just left. "How much for a sandwich, if you have any?" he asked, pulling out some money.

Shadi finished his hot chocolate just in time to hear the dinging of bells. He cringed slightly, knowing what he would see, but turned anyway. It was, as he had known, Gervain. It seemed that rescently, more often than not, he could always feel when the other was near. It was most likely do to the continuation of their long-established bond. A shiver ran down his spine as their eyes locked for the breifest of momenta before the pale boy looked away, blue eyes wide. Why did the other always follow him everywhere?

Gervain smiled at the boy's reaction. Nearly ten years and he was still acting like that? How... amusing. Well, he supposed old fears never really did subside but this was something else altogether. He sauntered over to his fight partner. "Come one, Shadi. We're going," he said cooly.

SHadi couldn't meet the other's eyes. He looked down and then set his now empty mug down on the coffee table before standing up slowly. He had... he had wanted to get away from Gervain for a while and the other had known it!!
