He laid the piece of meat onto the empty bag, laying it there for a while. There was no way he'd be able to eat when he was this nervous. He looked back up at Alec to find his attention on the meat. Slowly, very slowly, an idea crossed his mind. It was desperation, but in the end he really would do anything to stop his madness, when the way to a cure was right under his nose.

Of course, some things had slipped his mind, including an important detail imbedded in Moreau's last announcement.

"Lisssten, Alec... let'sss make a deal. You're hungry, right?" He picked up the paper bag, balancing the chunk of meat on it. His tail had picked up speed again, swishing nervously. His voice became strained as he spoke. "Jussst agree to go out with Amaya, and do ssso. I'll give you thisss. I don't even care any more, jussst sssay you will. I'm begging you..."

Alec flinched, not expecting such an upfront offer. Hungry? He was starving. The boy's survival skills rivalled that of a fish out of water ironically, finding food was beginning to become a bit of a serious issue, and that steak was beginning to look like it could last him forever.

But the catch.

A date with Amaya? Now this guy was acting really sketchy. What the hell did he really want, anyways?

A steak for a date. Could it hurt? A date with Amaya wouldn' be too bad, he imagined it like their many casual 'hanging out' sessions which were harmless. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't think of a drawback. It was as if all bodily functions had ceased save for his empty stomach now pining for food at any expense. So much so that he completely forgot the 'rules'. "Well..... ekay, a guess?" The teen hesitantly answered, wincing at his own response. There better not be any more catches.

"You won't regret thisss. The sssteak is yoursss. Enjoy it." He proffered the bag with the piece of meat toward Alec, looking immensely relieved.

Alec gave a wide, toothy grin and reached for the food, overjoyed. "Thanks a bunch mate!!!" The irish sharkboy beamed, his mood automatically brightened. "Ye 'ave neh idea 'ow 'ungreh a've been fo' th'last days!"

Zach handed it over and beamed a little, hoping that the shark boy could be counted on to keep Amaya occupied. His tail swished happily behind him. It took about a minute and a half for Alec's words to be properly digested and connections made, and only then did his eyes bug out in alarm. He clapped both hands to the sides of his face roughly, miscalculating the location of his snout once again. His throat seemed incapable of making noise, so only a fearful wheeze came out.

Alec happily accepted the offering, turning the hunk of protein in his hands a few times as he tries to fathom a method of consumption. He'd have to figure out how to make a fire if he wanted to cook it, but at this rate he was hungry enough to eat it as is. He was even convinced his stomach could take it at this point.

Just as the sharkboy began teething an edge of the juicy steak he glanced up to Zach, a chilling shock hitting him the moment he saw his expression. "Uh? Wha's wrong?" Promptly removing the peice of food from his mouth, he stared at the dragom man with a rising sense of panic. Why was he looking at him like that?

"Shouldn't have done that..." he moaned, staring at Alec and the steak. He looked about ready to claw into the sides of his own face, and didn't notice when one of his claws did p***k into him. A tiny trickle of blood welled around the clawtip and down his face. His frill was fanned out completely. "Shouldn't have done that..."

Alec's face went blank as he tried to decipher the reason for Zach's fear. Watching him writhe on the spot and just about claw his own eyes out wasn't helping at all either. "Bu'..." He began to ask for an explanation when it hit him.

"Aw shite..." He murmured low, placing the steak by his feet atop a pile of leaves. A sinking feeling struck his stomach that almost made him want to puke. What had he done? I promised myself I wouldn't let anyone else suffer for this... and I let a godamn piece of meat make me forget.. The teen visibly appeared distraught and guilt-ridden automatically, running his hand over his face.

Just as he made the motion however, a different sort of sensation caught his attention and his stomach began to churn in another sort of fashion. That smell...

Zach continued to mumble and occasionally hiss when he stumbled on the letter "S". There seemed to be no immediate reaction to what had happened, but immediate could mean anything from a second to five minutes. It made for unpleasant waiting, and Zach had stopped paying attention to Alec preferring instead to squeeze his eyes shut. It was evident that Zach and stress were not a good combination.

Alec still sat across from Zach, eyes trailing around in attempt to find the source of his reaction. By this time he had a good idea of what the cause was but was still unaware of how exactly what he'd do if he let himself react naturally. As the dragon locked himself into a mental struggle, the teen was fighting with the simple act of speech.

"Wha.... wha a'.... theh gon' ...do?" He managed to spit out although a white film was already creeping along his eye sockets. He hadn't eaten that steak yet but even so, he probably would have felt starved regardless.

He opened his eyes to the odd-sounding question. His first impression was that Alec was looking a little sick. Had it been the meat? He pondered the question over, trying to remember the words that had echoed across the island. For all the grandeur in how they were spoken, there wasn't much to them that he could clearly recall.

"Ssstick me out here like you, I think. I hope they don't. Thisss was an accident. I forgot. I forgot..."

Alec flinched and withdrawed a bit, overwhelmed with sensations too strong for his body to intepret at once. One on hand he wanted to apologize to Zach, plead with him how sorry he was for getting him into trouble (though it wasn't entirely his fault, right?) and on the other, he was feeling like his train of thought was slowly slipping away.

"No..." His voice cracked and he looked as if he was trying to sneeze as he attempted to continue. Finally he couldn't take it anymore and darted forwards in a motion that was too fluid and animalistic for the young irish boy. Jaws wide, he lashed out towards Zach who looked and smelled too much like a writhing animal to resist.

The sudden movement of the shark boy caught his attention. His mind raced, trying to figure out what he was going to do. Attack?

Oh, yes.

Zach wasn't focused or calm enough to react in a timely and life-saving manner. As before, his scattered ideas of what constituted a getaway had him flinging himself in a variety of directions with a variety of limbs. The result was him landing in a confused heap and still attempting to bolt with his arms and legs getting entangled in a mismatched quadruped's gait. He didn't make it more than a foot away.

Alec reason had been finally lost as he locked his attention on Zach's movements. No matter how hard he flailed, he manged to keep a hold of his direction by an invisible trail that seemed to lure him like a horse on a leadrope. The boy kept advancing as the dragon man attempted to flee, teeth bared as the void of his mouth became the pronounced feature. Despite the fact that he seemed to move in a way that ignored the presence of his legs for the most part, he was fairly fast at his awkward half-crawl and with sharp, thrashing movements continued the attack. To him, Zach was nothing more than a hunk of meat.

Seeing as he had been flailing his limbs about, the shark-hybrid zeroed in on an arm or leg closest to him.

Zach felt razor-sharp teeth sink into his arm and howled. Hunger must have come over the teen. He'd gone animal. Zach flailed some more and attempted to whack Alec in the face with his other arm, anything to get him to relinquish his painful jaw-grip. Finally, with enough thrashing he managed to pull away, though there were bloody lines across his skin where the teeth had tried to hold on.

He breathed heavily and clamped a hand over the burning bite, scooting backward until he could safely get up onto his two feet and run into the welcoming shrouded foliage of the jungle. He didn't look back once, and the steak was all but forgotten with pain clouding his thoughts. He needed to get away. Away from Alec, away from the river, away from his mistake and the senseless grey beast that the kid had been.
