Ki smiled down at the child and knelt in the dust, so that she was more on Vanna's level. "Van is my son. he's a fortunette." She unwrapped the front of the bundle, and clucked at the meeped complaints comming from the small mole. "His full name is Van D'ien, and he's still in the animal stage, though he's the same age as Ro really.... Do you know Ro?" She Thought about the apparent age difference between the squirrel girl and her son and sighed.

Vanna pondered this. So, he was like how she was when she was a birdie? No wings. But then again, Ash didn't have wings. They were all so different!
She reached out to pat Van on the head. "Ro?" Her third eye closed in thought. She thought she remembered... "Scurrel. Yes? Fluff taaaaail!" She giggled, bouncing a little on her toes. "I know."

she smiled again. Children had such wonderful acceptance....
"Yes, Fluffy tailed child." Van moved momentarily under Vanna's pat and then tried to burrow back into the blankets but Ki held him fast. "He's really shy and scared of most things... I hope he'll grow a little sometime soon and then he can play with the other fortunettes." ... She started to stand.
"Were we going somewhere?"

It took a few moments, but Vanna managed to remember. She bounced again, and tugged on Ki's arm, point back to Ivy-Twined.
"Mamma!" she said, simply. "Food!" And then she was skipping off (albeit unsteadily and without finesse) back home, just accepting for granted that the two would follow.

Ki smiled and deposited Van in her pocket with a chuckle. Then she walked calmly behind the small child as she trundled off towards a place she felt safe. It was a nice thing to watch, and she pulled her pocket open to peek at her son... "And where do you feel safe huh?"
And before she knew it she was stopped without a trace of Vanna anywhere... Then this wagon must be the one she was meant to come to... "Hello?"

Vanna giggled, peeking out from around the side of the wagon impishly. She waved, then hopped back to her mother's side, plopping down on the ground.
Lorelei flipped the last pancake, smiling. "Ki, do come and sit down. I've just about finished cooking. I have some raspberry jam that one of the women showed me how to make - it's pretty good, if I do say so myself!"

Ki smiled and sat down, acidentaly sitting on Van Dien with her rather large bottom. He squeaked and she leaned forward, moving the pocket that he was concealed in with a sigh. Goofy mole.
"It smells lovely, really." She looked at the wagon. It was one that she had admired from her spot in the procedings, and it was nice to see it up close.
"I can't cook." Matter of factly. "I've always admired people who can."

The ivy-covered side of the wagon provided a nice retreat from the bright morning sun. Lorelei looked up from her shaded seat as she slid the pancakes onto a large, simple ceramic plate and put it between them. She also retrieved the promised jar of jam and placed it, with a spoon, next to the plate.
"I hope you don't mind eating off of the same plate," Lorelei apologized, pouring some of the jam onto the plate and taking a pancake and tearing it in half. She dipped one half in the jam a little, rolled it up into a bundle, and handed it to Vanna. Vanna took it and began munching on it happily, enjoying the tart spread. Lorelei ate her half plain.
"I'm afraid I haven't had a chance to buy a lot of the things I need."

Ki laughed. "Who has?" And she reached for a peice of the food without worry of seeming rude. Her pocket squirmed momentarily at the smell of the pancakes, but Ki resolved in her mind that if Van Dien wanted food then Van dien would have to brave the company of others... so there.
"I was actually wondering when we might next find ourselves in a market area. I could use a few more nibs for my pen, and a few threads to mend the blankets that my little Van put holes in." She smiled at the other woman knowingly. She ahd a feeling that Lorelei would understand the hazzards of small creatures with claws and young minds.

"Well, if we're on the road to Tempranillo, then you'll have all the thread you'll ever need soon enough." Another pancake torn, this time into fourths. She didn't want to force Vanna to eat too much at once, so she just dipped one of the bits into the jam and rested it on her knee.
Eating the other pieces, she smiled wistfully, sadly. "Tempranillo has everything anybody could ever need... I suppose. Everything physical would perhaps be a better way to put it. Even though I understand the wisdom of stopping there for a while, I can only hope we don't stay for long."

Ki raised an eyebrow at the statement. "Truth be told, your reluctance to go there makes me all the more eager to see it for myself... if only to say that I agree with you." She grinned. She was just that kind of person... the one that argued for agruement sake. "I'm glad that there's other people in the caravan that know more about the area than I do. I'm rather a new gypsy." She waved a hand in a small circle as if that helped to explain. "I kind of married into this life and then *pfft* My partner died in a wagon accident." She shook her head... "it was a long time ago though, but now I'm gypsy without a guide to tell me how to be a gypsy."

"We seem to have more in common than just being wallflowers," Lorelei said with a small laugh. "I used to be a wealthy merchant's daughter in Tempranillo... I don't have a very high opinion of the character of those people for that reason. I fell in love with a gypsy, and we ran away... we found our way here a while back, and then, one night, she just... disappeared. I was shuffled from wagon to wagon for a long time.
"I eventually ended up coming out of my shell enough that I began making close friends. And then I managed to find my own wagon. But honestly, I still have no idea what I'm actually doing."

"Well" Ki looked down at Vanna munching happily on pancake slices. "You seem to be doing a fine job in most cases." He thoughts fluttered back to the little mole in her pocket for a moment before she smiled over at Lorelei. "And you seem to be a pretty good cook. I'll have to spy on you and imitate your cooking styles until I no longer burn the water." And with that she laughed.

"Oh, no, if you want to steal somebody's talent, spy on Voltaire. He's the one who took me in and taught me how to cook and fix a wagon wheel and all of that." She laughed, watching as Vanna reached out and took her waiting pancake bit with her tiny fingers, feeding it into her mouth as she looked between the two adults intently.
"But thank you. I'll be the first to admit I doubt my own abilities quite often... hearing that really does calm me a little.
"Is Van going to come eat with us?"

Ki thought about that for a moment... And why not? "Sure." She reached into her pocket and brought out a squealing mole. "Oiy." she phrase was directed at the squealing and it worked, for the noise dropped down to a dull whine and then fadded out completely. She set Van Dien down on her knees and picked apart a small peice of pancake for him. "You hungry kiddo?"
van Dien moused about trying to dig a hole in her skirt, but soon settled and sat still. It was a few moments before he started stuffing his little face full of pancake.
