Ekaterina, 9-8-06 ************
It was very late when Yaruka brought her charge home. She walked down the halls to her room by her side, listening to her story of the goings on of the evening. Yaruka knew the feline's story and felt bad for her, but was quite curious that Leena wasn't aware of how horrible her anthro acted. She decided to not bring it up and kept her ear and shoulder available for Ekaterina. "I'm sorry that things turned out that way, dear." She spoke softly, aware of how fragile the feline's emotional threshold was. "You do know that you were in the wrong, as well."
Ekaterina was still on the verge of tears, her eyes glassy and reddening as the moments passed. She listened to her caretaker and looked over to her. "How was I in the wrong? She was the one calling me a whore and her servant! She has the audacity to walk around as if she owns everything and everyone!" She grumbled a bit as she crossed her arms tightly across her chest, "She only behaved after Greed showed up. Once he disappears, I'm sure she just goes right back to her evil ways."
"Ekaterina," Yaruka sighed as she listened to her new charge's woes, "Yes, it was wrong of her to judge you so quickly without even asking for your name or speaking to you....but you did not have to react to it. You could have ignored it. It might have been better if you did."
"You don't know that! I woke up to her glaring at me with evil eyes! WHEN I WAS SLEEPING!" She threw her arms up in frustration and to emphasize her point, "I never saw her or spoke to her at all before that and she has the nerve to call me a whore! And she uses the excuse that she can SMELL it on me! No animal has senses that keen!" Her face was getting a bit red as her head pounded. She was being reminded of her days at the harem.
"Ekaterina, don't shout. The others are sleeping." Yaruka shook her head as she listened to her, "I understand that you're angry. You have every right to be. But you had no right to start a fight with her."
"She forced me back on the couch and put her hand over my mouth! What was I supposed to do?! Sit there and take it?!" Ekaterina wheeled around to face her caretaker, her emotions starting to flare up in swells, "I'm not going to stand by and listen to someone demean me! I didn't at the harem and damn me if I'm going to let it happen now!" She once again crossed her arms over her chest tightly, her voice lowering as she grumbled to herself, "She doesn't know what it's like to be me. She has no clue how much she hurt me."
Yaruka looked to her anthro and sighed sympathetically. She wished she could say something to make it better, but she didn't know what that was. She could only move over to her and place a gentle hand on her shoulder, trying to reassure her that things would be okay.
Ekaterina shrugged off her tough and let her arms drop to her sides, hands clenched into fists as her mind flooded with thoughts and negative emotions. "I've never....felt worthy of life. She continually called me worthless. She doesn't know that I fought for my life on a daily basis......that no one cared for my pain or my feelings.....that I meant nothing to anyone." Her fists clenched tightly, so much that her palms began to bleed a bit. She was fighting a losing battle against the tide of her feelings, until she finally caved in. "My life.....means nothing!" She ran away from Yaruka as the tears finally came down. She burst through the door of her own room and flung herself onto her lavish, pillow-laden bed and clung to one of the larger pillows, burrying her face in it and sobbing her heart out.
"Ekaterina, your hands..." Was all that Yaruka could get out before the feline ran away from her. She sighed and followed her, looking into her lavish room to see that everything had changed colors (as it was designed). All the fabrics were shades of blue and black, signifying the sorrow and self-hatred that Ekaterina was feeling. She approached the crying anthro and sat beside her on her bed, placing a hand gently on her back. "Kat....Don't say that. Your life is very important."
"To whom?" Came the muffled reply as she pressed her face further into the pillow, lying on her stomach. She had never felt so horrid since the day she was thrown out of the harem.
"To me, Kat. You mean a lot to me." She spoke gently, "I took you in because I could see you hurting. I didn't want to see that. I wanted to save you from hurting yourself. Your life means a lot to me......and I'm sure it does to many other people that you've met."
"Like who?" She turned her face out slightly to look at Yaruka with one eye. "I have no friends. I've never had friends. No one cares for me." She returned her face into the pillow.
Yaruka frowned a bit upon hearing that. "Now I'm sure that's not true. I'm sure there are people that care about you. Those are friends. I know that you've told me about people that care about you. So you do have friends." She stood up and made her way to the door, looking back to her. "And you have us....your family." She then left and closed the door behind her, letting her take it all in.

Ekaterina, 9-13-06 *************
Ekaterina had wandered home later that evening, her mind left in a daze. Too many things were happening at once for her to truly comprehend. How could I do so much damage? She thought to herself as she meandered through the hallways of the large home, not even paying attention to the others around her. In her zombified state, she didn't even realize where she was going until she bumped into the door of her own room.
She entered it and lit one of the incense burners on her vanity, inhaling the sweet spices before flopping down onto her bed with a heavy sigh. Feeling behind her, she grabbed one of the smaller pillows and clutched it to her chest, her eyes aimed at nothing in particular as they stared into the canopy. The colors of the room shifted to match her mood; moot, neutral colors to match her confused and muddled state of mind. Her ears were deaf to the sounds of the others within the house, her own thoughts loud enough to echo throughout her senses.
Something feels different..... Her mind whispered loudly, It feels....empty...like something left. It feels as though I've lost something....but what? What have I lost that would leave me so hollow? Since hearing what had ocurred to Felicia and the emptiness in Byakko's eyes that she saw, she felt a strange sensation in her; almost like a wind had blown a piece of her away, and now a breeze was continuously drifting through it. She had never felt this before......this strange emptiness. What was it?
'Tsubei knows.' Came a small, quiet thought from seemingly nowhere.
Ekaterina blinked a bit as she came out of her self-delving, looking to her open doorway. She saw a little girl standing there, her pale smooth skin shining against her ornate dress. Sitting up, she smiled to the little one. "I'll never get used to that." She muttered, then motioned for the little one to come in. "You know what this feeling is, Tsubei?"
Tsubei, the little Porcelain girl, nodded as she walked into the elaborate room, taking a seat upon one of the larger cushions on the floor. 'Yes, Tsubei knows. It's called loss.'
"Loss?" The feline perked her ears up and tilted her head to the side curiously. She'd heard of it, but couldn't define the feeling behind it. "What causes it?"
Tsubei shrugged a bit and sighed, a saddened air taking a place in her amethystine eyes. 'Tsubei knows it's an empty feeling, like something was taken away. Tsubei has felt it before....when Tsubei had no more friends.'
No more friends...The thought brought the hollow feeling to a crescendo and a pain made her heart tremble. "How...did you have no more friends?" She asked quietly.
'The cottage Tsubei and her friends visited suddenly got empty.' She sighed heavily and her eyes shut, 'Tsubei doesn't know if they all just stopped coming....or if something happened. Tsubei tried to talk to her friends.....but they wouldn't talk back. Those that did talk to Tsubei made Tsubei feel cold inside....like they hated Tsubei.' The thought seemed to bring back old pains in the Porcelain as her eyes began to build tears in the corners.
"Oh, no no...shh, don't cry." Ekaterina picked up the child-like girl and placed her upon her lap, hugging her gently. She hated seeing little ones crying.......or anyone, for that matter. Still....Tsubei's thoughts had stirred something within Ekaterina that made her eyes gloss over with tears as well. She withheld them, not wanting to upset the fragile girl in her arms. "You're so sweet....I'm sure they didn't hate you. Something must have happened to make them leave. I'm sure it wasn't you."
Tsubei turned her head up to the feline that held her and smiled, using her small hand to brush away her tears. 'Will Ekaterina be okay?'
She couldn't help but smile, for the little thing was so adorable it made her teeth ache. "Yes. I'll be okay. Now, run along. I'm sure Yaruka needs some help out there." She set the child-like girl down and watched her scurry out of her room. Her face fell as she took in the previous thoughts. No more friends......have I suffered the same? She laid down upon her side as the thoughts ran rampant through her mind, Have I....lost my friends, too? The last thought echoed as the incense took an effect upon her, causing her to drift away to sleep as a few stray tears fell upon her pillow.

Ekaterina, 9-20-06 *************
Ekaterina huffed in outrage as she was yelled at by Yaruka go to to her room. I most certainly do NOT act like a thirteen-year-old! She fumed internally, And so what if I do? It's not like I ever had a chance to act like it. I've lived this wretched life since I was eight years old. I've never had a childhood. She shoved her room door open and slammed it closed, causing many of the other residents to jump for a moment, only to slump down into her bed.
What does that matter, though? No one cares about my past, except that wench and her supposed 'sense of smell.' She sighed as she brought out her quill pen and a book of paper. She began to scratch down the things she had wanted to say to someone for a while, her mind still a buzz. I didn't want any of this......I just wanted to get a different start in life, but I've just come full circle again. Now I've created a burden on someone else's shoulders....someone that actually cares. That's all I am....one large burden. She finished her writing and folded the letter neatly, placing it in an envelope and addressing it to the appropriate person.
It took her a moment of thought before she began to scribble out another letter. She didn't have to think too hard on this one. She merely wrote what she felt and the things that came after. For all the damage I've done....for all the people I've annoyed....no more. She thought as she pinned it to her pillow. She nodded in approval and grabbed her previous letter, as well as a shawl, exiting her room quietly.
She decided she would take the long way to her first destination.

Yaruka's Notice *******
After dealing with the rest of the family, it gave Yaruka time to think about how harshly she spoke to Ekaterina earlier. She felt horridly, knowing that the poor feline was going through emotional self-torment right now, and her words didn't help much for it. Once she made sure that everyone was in order, she made her way to Ekaterina's room. Finding it unlocked and open was a bit of a shocker, but she spoke through it.
"Kat?" She inquired as she slowly opened the door, "I'm sorry for earlier today. I was just so....."
She glanced about. The room was empty. Not even incense or a candle was lit. Something was very wrong. Looking closer, she saw a note pinned to one of the pillows. Struggling against the fluffiness of it, she finally managed to pry it away and looked it over.
To Yaruka Yaruka, I cannot thank you enough for all you have done. I apologize for the stress that I've caused you and others. I realize now that Felicia was right. I truly am worthless. Greed's wrath was in vain. I did not mean to cause so much damage, but I cannot fix it now. I can only hope to improve the future end. I just want you to know that you will not have to worry about me any longer. I realize that my fate before you took me in was my destiny. I'm returning to it and, hopefully, your life will be better because of it. I'm sorry if I caused any stress on your friendship with Leena. I hope that my apology to them will be enough to repair that, at least. I'm glad to have known you, even as briefly as it was. You truly cared for me and I thank you for that. I will miss you. Farewell. ~Ekaterina
"No.....dear Gods, no..." Was all that Yaruka could whisper as the note trembled in her hand. She fell to her knees for a moment, reading it over and over, taking in every word. She couldn't believe it......she just couldn't let this be.
Standing quickly, she ran to grab her scarf and set out to look for her missing anthro. She feared for her safety.

Aphrodite was stumbling along, her hand holding behind it a secret. The wound pained and ached her so. As she came across tehs hore, she looked up. His scent came from here. It always did smell of the lovely ocean. Across the sands of the shoreline, droplets of blood trailed her as she moved in a lumbering fashion towards the home. Her ears were pulled back.
How she hated to burden him. In a desperate attempt to hide away how much she needed his help, she took her cape, and tied it around her belly, hiding it away behind the fabric and using it also as a tournique. She now gave the appearance of being fine, only a tired look in her eyes and the scent of blood in the air. With her cape red however it would not show.. at least this is what Aphrodite had hoped for.
When she came up to the doors, she knocked lightly. 'Please, hear me,' she begged within her mind to Tuomas.

It had been quiet around the house. Unusually so, in fact. The usual hustle and bustle had settled down to a quiet lull of chatter. Many of them were reading or busy doing something. The unicorn had been watering the plants in the entrance hall.
Tuomas was tending to the fig trees and roses when his ears caught the soft knock upon the front door. He tilted his head curiously and set down his watering pitcher, moving to the door. Upon opening it, he was greeted with the sight of a very tired Aphrodite and the smell of blood that permiated the air around her. He instantly became concerned and opened the door wide for her. "Aphrodite? What's the matter?" His voice was steady, but filled with worry.

Aphrodite offered him such a weary smile. "Tuomas.. I'm sorry for troubling you... but I didn't know who else to turn to." She came towards him and hugged him lightly. "I.. can't go home.." Her golden eyes started to fill with tears.

Tuomas watched her, his ears listening to the exhaustion and seeming desperation in her voice. When she hugged him, he wrapped his arms around her securely. "You can't go home? Why not?" He could feel a wetness seeping through her clothing against him. It was warm....accompanied by the increasing smell of blood. He could feel her weakness and leaned down, picking her up into his arms bridal-style. "Come. Let's get you inside. It's getting cold." He closed the door behind him as he carried her down the hallway.

As she was lifted up into his arms, Aphrodite immediately hid her hands over the clothed wound. She looked up at him sadly. "I'm so sorry for the trouble." She nuzzled his neck affectionately. But now that she was in his arms, he could feel her tremble lightly.

He nuzzled her back gently and smiled to her kindly. "It's no trouble at all." He still hadn't let down his guard. He brought her into the empty sitting room, a bright warm fire blazing in the hearth to warm the room, and settled her down carefully onto the couch. He had felt her trembling and it only increased his concern. He knelt beside her and took her hand into his, looking into her eyes. "You're shaking. What has you so frightened and weak?"

As he took one of her hands, he could easily see the bright red blood that stained her hands. Aphrodite sighed. "Unfortunately, Felicia brought some unwanted company around the house. I had a run in.. that's all." Her golden stare fell to the ground. "They are around my home. I can't go back."
