Cerridwen smiled gently at Requiem.

"I have many gifts, Requiem. I dont need a voice to speak, or ears to hear. I can do both with my heart instead, using the power of my mind." she explained, aloud this time.

"It is for this reason that I told you silence can be a great gift. If one is always speaking aloud, it is not possible to develop these talents." she explained softly, trying to not confuse her by throwing out too many things at one time.

The pale Feli listened carefully to the seraphim's words. She nodded slowly, yet unsurely. Almost as if she was a part of the conversation now, she asked You are saying I will be able to listen to other Feli's hearts? Her glassy eyes drooped down towards the ground, still trying to make some sense of this new information.

"If you want me to remind you how, then yes, you will be able to. All felis are born with the ability to read the hearts of other felis. Its just, when everyone around you is speaking, it becomes hard to listen to the voice within you which can always tell you more than the words of others ever could." Cerridwen replied, gently lifting Requiems face and looking her straight in the eyes while she spoke.

Once finished speaking she patted Requiem on the shoulder as if to tell her not to worry, and sent a strong thought to Requiem, as a way to gauge whether or not Requiem retained any of the natural talent. "Do not fear inability. The skill is within you. You must only reach into your memory to regain the one thing you long for."

Cerridwen watched the other feli for any signs of a reaction, any indication that the gentle but loud message was received.

Remind me...? she thought as the other gently lifted Requiem's head up. Looking into the other Feli's eyes, a calm sense came to all her limbs. After a few moments, the pastel seraphim patted her on the back, still looking into her eyes.

Suddenly, a strage fuzzy feeling fluttered throughout her ears. It was not necessarily a sound, but it felt more like her ears were awakening from a cold numbness. The feeling was all new to the pale Feli, as she flicked her dusty blue ears a bit, not quite used to the new sensation.

Cerridwen watched Requiems face, trying to see if the message had been received. She could sense that something had come across, but not the actual message.

"We'll try again, but first, close your eyes. Imagine that there is a door inside your head. Walk over to the door and look at it. Notice its colour, its size, the wood its made out of, its thickness, and the doorknob. Try the doorknob, does it turn? If not, look around you. On the ground there is a key. It could be an antique key, a car key, or even a new house key. Pick up the key and put it in the door. Dont worry if its dusty, it will still work." she said, making sure that Requiem was following along easily.

"Now, turn the key, and pull open the door. Step through it and see what is on the other side. Leave it open behind you. Now, open your eyes. You have just opened the door that was blocking you from hearing what my mind is saying." Cerridwen said with a gentle grin.

"Now, we try again," she finished, and began sending thoughts to Requiem. Thoughts like "How does it feel to receive my messages? Try sending me one! You can do it, I have faith in you."

She watched the other seraphim feli to see if it had worked.

Before she lowered her nearly black lids, she looked to her companion in wonder. Try again? she thought to herself as she attempted to follow the pastel seraphim's informal instructions. Padding about a bit within the shadows of her mind, the seraphim found a door, with an exterior carved with ivory. The ivory curled around in intricate patterns carved into it. A small sprig of ivy curled about the top of the door, clinging lightly to it.

Requiem's paws attempted to open the door within her mind, but as the seraphim had suggested, it was locked, door stuck snuggly to its frame. Listening to the calm, nearly hypnotic voice, she searched the ground for a key. On the nearly black dust beneath her feet, a white key lay. Picking it up with her mouth, she noted it was in the shape of a skeleton. Bringing the key to the keyhole, the key snuggly fit in. Turning the key gradually with her paw now, she could hear the bolt come undone within the door's frame. Bringing her paw now to the knob, the ivory door glided open, light springing out from the opening between the carved frame of the doorway

Her eyes within her mind were filled with awe as she slowly stepped into through the door, not quite sure where the light would lead her. However, upon the instruction of her companion, she blinked her deeply shaded lids. Still a bit unsure as what to expect now, her friend recommended a second try, though she still did not know what they were trying. With her eyes upon her friend's kind face, her mind wondered about the subject. However, a faint whisper crept into her ears, though her friend's lips did not move. Requiem turned her head to one side, then the other, finding no others around. However, the whispers were still speaking to her quietly. The voice was too hushed to truly know who's voice it was, but turning back to her friend, she made a wild guess. Is it you?

Cerridwen smiled at Requiem, having heard the felis soft inner voice finally vocalize directly to her. "Yes, it is I, friend." she replied in thoughts, her pleasure apparant. She had not just read the thought from her friends mind, without realizing it, Requiem had actively sent the thought to her!

"You will find it a gift that is difficult to become adjusted to. But once you do, you will find it is worth the effort of the transition. You must remember, when you look at somone like me, who can hear thoughts, and you think in words or images, they can receive them. When you opened the door, you removed the barrier. If you choose to, you can simply listen to the thoughts of others, without replying in kind. But, now both paths are open to you." the pastel feli's fur shone in the sun as she continued to try to explain this to Requiem.

"You will find it easy to read the thoughts of almost any feli, but only some will be able to receive the ones that you send to them. You will be able to see behind the words of others, to know what they are truely thinking and feeling. No more must you feel confused by the restraints of mere words. You are free Requiem. You can free the thoughts which rumble in your brain, and share them with those who you carefully select."

The seraphim feli paused, pondering what this must mean to the other. She had a feeling that Requiem might be hesitant to use the power at first, but that was fine too. The gift was there, Requiem merely had to use it. And she need not rely on others all the time to pass along her cares and passions. The thought brought another wide but soft smile to Cerridwens delicate features.

(not trying to force anything on you or on Req, just trying to explain that she can find felis to talk to now, if she wants to look for those who share the ability, know what I mean? She has the ability to choose, now that the door is open. An added bonus to being able to hear thoughts.)

((I know wink ... I plan on having Req use the ability on her own discretion... because I know that having the ability and using the ability too much would be not too nice in general whee ))

Concentrating on the soft voice within her ears, Requiem nods back to her friend, eyes still a bit widened from surprize, but with a smile on her pale face. She continued to listen carefully, paying more attention to the words than to the speaker's form. She could no longer tell if the other was speaking with words or her mind. It did not matter though, for she was taking in the meaning.

Nodding once more, she wondered ...but would I want to use a power like that... I do not mind letting others know I feel, but looking into another's mind, another's heart... Isn't that an invasion of privacy? Quite aware that her friend could hear that, her cheeks blushed a light pink. As the two stood there, a faint warm breeze picked up a bit, softly blowing upon their fur.

Ahhh, a very wise question. I think that as long as you start out using the power mostly to speak, rather than to hear, you will find that some felis will give you permission to pick up their thoughts in return. You can ask them, of course, if they mind. Some will, and some wont. It is also easy to go into your mind and close the door halfway. That way you can speak out, but not hear everything others are thinking. Its sort of like closing a screen door on a house, the things you want to enter will enter, the things you dont, will be kept out. Cerridwen thought to Requiem as a reply.

She was relieved at Requiems question, because she could remember in the old days, when every feli had the gift available at birth, what a problem that some would cause by refusing to allow any other feli their privacy. It was part of the reason that most felis had left the druids. A select few, the most powerful, the most willing to adjust to suit others, they were asked to remain behind, and Cerridwen was one of that number. It was as a thank you that the Druids had given her the most powerful gift of all: the ability to regenerate while keeping all of her memories in tact. She made no attempt to hide these musings from Requiem, knowing the other seraphim would not mind being shown the images that had just flooded her. It was a bit of a warning of what can happen, but also reassurance that when used appropriately, great rewards may follow.

Again, the white and dusty blue Feli listened carefully, concentrating every sense into receiving the response. She closed her dark lids, hoping it would help her receive the message more readily.

As the seraphim concentrated, she could feel the words entering through her chest, and make their journey to her ears. The words almost seemed to swirl throughout her body before making it to her ears. When these words made it to her ears this time, they were no longer a whisper, but more like a song being sung gently, yet with a full voice. As her friend explained to her the possibilities of her gift, she smiled lightly, though her eyes remained closed.

Requiem opened her lids, revealing her glassy blue eyes once more when she felt her question was answered sufficiently, only to find more whispers hissing within her ears. Though the paler of the two was curious, she figured it was her friend's own personal thoughts, so she only halfway listened to the relief and the history her friend had encountered. However, images crept to her eyes, making it so temporarily, she could not see the true surroundings, but only the visions within the pastel seraphim's mind.

When her true sight came back, she turned to her friend once more, only blinking with confusion written on her face. Again, the warm breeze played with the two seraphims' fur.

Cerridwen couldnt help but grin at Requiem, who's skills were advancing more quickly than she had expected (clearly, Requiem has a natural talent for it). She speaks aloud to aleviate any confusion.

"Those were some of my memories, from over a thousand years ago. They must have been a bit confusing. Would you like me to explain them better?" she asked, making sure that Requiem knew she didnt mind at all, and in fact, would probably look forward to the telling. It had been many years since she was able to share her experiences with another creature of any kind, let alone a feli.

The voiceless Feli nodded, thinking out the words Yes, please do. She wanted to learn about her friend, though she finally just thought of one question she had neglected to ask before. Using her internal voice, she asked her What is your name? I do not think I was ever told your name... Her cheeks blushed faintly as she looked up to the pastel one and smiled sheepishly, her eyes expressing all of her embarassment. Her dusty blue wings flittered a bit out of her nervous habit.

Cerridwen smiled, "I was simply waiting for you to ask it my friend! It's Cerridwen." she replied to the shorter question first, doing a bit of a bow when she introduced herself formally.

"Now, I must warn you, the story is a bit long, and may take a while to tell, so I understand if you will need a few breaks." Cerridwen began, taking a seat softly on the ground, and motioning for Requiem to make herself comfortable as well.

"Would you like me to start from the very beginning?" she asked, making sure to find out exactly what the other seraphim wanted to hear before starting.

(( heart *huggles* Alrighty... better set the scene up for you then xd ))

Yes, please do tell me all about yourself Cerridwen. the pale seraphim nodded while smiling. Stretching her wings once more, they stretched back farther than they normally stood at. The feathers near the tips of her wings rattled gently during the stretch. Bringing her wings back, she folded them flat against her back, hiding the abundance of feathers.

Her wings now tucked away, Requiem padded up lightly to in front of the story teller and lay her form down upon the soft grass, without even thinking of the possible grass stains that may attack her fur. Her glassy eyes were eager and looked to Cerridwen attentively. Requiem's tail flicked about amongst the grass, causing the blades to sway gently back and forth with each movement of the striped tail. Though Requiem's pale form lay on the ground, her head was up and turned to Cerridwen, ready for the tale to begin.

Cerridwen smiles, glad to know her story interests her closest friend. She seats herself comfortably on her haunches, as she plans to use her front paws to help create visuals for Requiem while she tells her tale.

Taking a deep breath, she begins, her voice soft and sweet, almost melodic. Her eyes are closed, and she pictures in her mind the images that she wishes to describe to Requiem, giving the other feli the option of viewing the images for herself while listening to Cerridwen's words, she leaves her mind open while she speaks.

"The first thing that I can remember is the inside of a soft, smooth cloth bundle. It was dark, and filled with strange sounds that I could not identify, but cozy, warm, cuccoon-like. I dont know how much you remember about being in your bundle, but I can recall it all. I have always been a bit of an unusual feli that way." she smiles, feeling the warmth of the sun echoing the warmth of the bundle in her memory.

"I was in the bundle for many hours, I will never know exactly how many, but the singing of humans embraced me at all times. The words were smooth, flowing, a visual knotwork of sorts, and they told me stories. As long as the singing continued, I was shown visions of which I am still unsure of the origin. At first, there was only darkness. Soon, the singing of one lone voice was joined by the singing of another, and in my minds eye I could see the whole world being born. The sight was so spectacular that words will never do it justice. As new elements appeared in the world, new voices would join the song, lives creating new timbres, new notes, new keys. I watched the world grow, from a young planet into one that was old. I saw the world reborn two times, once with fire, and once with a great flood, as though the creator of it all was trying to begin fresh upon discovering unexpected horrors."

She pauses here, wanting to give Requiem a brief respite from the images that still overwhelmed her. After a few minutes, she softly picks up the thread where she left off.

"The world then changed, the song became dissonant, there were great storms, fire streaming from the earth, the ground shaking uncontrollably. And suddenly, all the voices stopped. The world was silent, immobile. Time appeared to be standing still, but this was not so. Quietly, almost too quietly for me to hear, one lone voice had been continuing the song. The soloist crafted for me the birth of mankind. The first humans were so fragile, they stumbled from place to place before learning to form communities. Around this same time, man discovered the feli. We had been on the earth since the beginning. No destruction of the planet had ever been able to destroy our kind. Man recognized this fact, as he had some form of innate knowledge of the recent rebuilding of the world, I assume given him by the great Creator. Mankind decided as a group, after many long councils, that we must be above them."

Cerridwen paused once more, searching for the right words, for when this happened, they had no words to describe what the feli were, it was simply understood. And the languages of old were lost, and would be no use to help explain.

"They believed, as I do, that felis were below the great Creator, but that for him to spare us the destruction of the world two times, we must be, I guess you would use the word Deities today to describe the concept they began to grasp. They immediately began to pay homage to the felis they came across. Not in ways such as those used in churches today, rather, when a feli was seen, the man or woman would retreat at once, to a distance where they would not disturb us. From there, they would sing us songs. Crude songs, yes, for man had no instruments of music then, but songs of love, respect, and thankfulness. After many centuries of this, the feli began to love mankind. We slowly began to search them out, to become their companions, their guardians, their friends. T'was a strange thing to witness this coming together of species. Felis and man both lived many hundreds of years then, and when a feli chose to stay with a man, woman or child, it was forever."

Her face showed the happiness that this revelation brung to her heart, reflecting the pure joy that those felis and people had felt at that time, feelings that had been passed to her through the music, all while she was in the bundle. She continued;

"For many eons this pattern was unchanged, until the unthinkable happened. Men began to discover that they could take life from others. They began to kill each other when a feli chose one person over another, and the felis became frightened. We retreated then, leaving the humans to their own devices, refusing to become an instrument of violence. Felis understood that soon the humans would come to hate us for causing so many fights and deaths, although we ourselves had no reason to be blamed. It was a critical time in the history of men, and we did not know if they would survive it. And so, the song became unbelieveably sad, and I cried within my bundle, knowing the pain of the separation, loss, and heartache that all felis felt when this split was forced to happen."

The seraphim felis face has become solemn beyond description, tears fill her eyes and leak out from under her lids. She takes a break once more, but this time to compose herself, to take control of her sorrow and be able to continue her story.

((I'm going to stop there for Requiem to have reactions and such things, I hate to tell the whole story all at once, because then I would feel like I need to shorten it, and I dont want to do that. smile ))
