All of my cats are fixed and have their claws removed as well.
gonk

There's nothing wrong with that. They still have their back claws. My god do they hurt.
Well yeah, but the front claws are necessary as much as the back. I'm not declawing my cats. Maybe a trim every now and then. lol But yeah. Even the momma cat has some sharp ones, but she knows better than to use them on us/her kittens. 3nodding

You can declaw your cats?
But they have to.. hunt and.. scratch things. D;

But kitty is very cute...

Not ours. They live inside. No hunting for them. =D Only one of them used to be an outdoor cat, so the others don't know any better.

I guess since you got them fixed they don't wander... and the declawing saves your furniture?

Our cats don't go outside... at all. Unless you count the deck to go potty but that's it.

Well, the declawing also is better for them. Sure, you may think that they can't defend themselves but once you've lived with the cat that only has back claws you learn that's false. Anyway... it keeps them from getting into things such as posions and chemcials and such that could harm them.

Gah... Declawing is mutilation and it's actually pretty cruel. It's very painful and they bleed, a lot. When a cat is declawed they actually rip out the last joint of each toe. It's like if someone were to rip off the last joint of each of your fingers. It's just not cool. And it often leads to cats becoming "biters" because their first line of defense is their claws, and without them it's a lot harder to defend themselves.

One of my cats is declawed, thanks to the fact that I was still living with my mother when we got her and she insisted we have her declawed just as she did the other cats. But I refuse to declaw my kitten. There are WAY better ways to save your carpet/furniture than declawing. As a last resort there are even little rubber caps you can put over their claws to keep them from doing any damage.

And I don't see how declawing them will protect them from getting into things. The cat I have that's declawed still gets into everything.

Exactly. And hell, all 9 of mine are inside cats! Most of the time, they'd rather have my bottlecaps than furniture anyway. XD Although there is the occasional furniture scratching post, but you can buy those sheets to prevent that. 3nodding Far better in my opinion. And then, at least, in a worst case scenario, if they got stuck outside/lost/etc., then they could have a better means of defense. They know how to hunt though, they can already sneak up on my hand without making a sound. xd

Yes, Kim. You can do that, but some veterinarians won't even do it. Just like euthanasia. Some vets just won't do it, but mine does... I had to get my old girl put to sleep. She had a collapsed lung, and the other had severe pneumonia. crying He gave her a 1% chance of surviving and actually being able to live that way. She wouldn't have been able to stand it, because she was an outside cat. She just came in for food, milk, and a little bit of love. 3nodding

I know some Vets won't do declaws, for obvious reasons. But I can't understand why they wouldn't do Euthanasias? I can understand refusing to euthanize a pet that someone just doesn't want anymore and has nothing wrong with it (people suck, seriously), but why would they refuse if it was really the only option?

I remember when my adult cat (who was then a kitten) came home from being declawed, it was seriously hearbreaking to see her bloody little paws and she could barely stand to move around because she was in so much pain. I don't understand why anyone would want to do that to their pets. =/

Everyone has differing opinions.

This is definitely a debatable topic...

Yes. They use them for balance, just like their tails. And they're good just in case they have to climb a tree to escape dogs... I'm glad my momma cat did. She was pregnant, and was outside, and the neighbors get tired of hearing their dogs bark, so they let them run wild, and they chased her up a tree. crying We got her down later that night. She didn't even meow at us until she knew the dogs were gone.

And it certainly is, Ve. 3nodding
