Arrivals:
Marshall had grown ever so bored starting out the plane window, watching the clouds lazily move by at a sluggish pace that was painfully slow. Marshall, never one to enjoy crampt places, had discovered that he did not enjoy crampt places as they flew over the ocean. Still, he was here on vacation. Nothing more, nothing less. The young man with brown hair that had a mind of its own looked out the side of the helicopter, seeing a giant tropical paradice. To think he'd be living there for the next two weeks! Now his boss KNEW how to reward an employee!

Meanwhile, Sabin was once again out on welcoming duty. This time, it was a young man who had seen something that he shouldn't have... at least according to the file.

But all of the notes didn't indicate that he should be a problem maker - not that any of the other islanders had really been so far.. with the possible exception of Joli.

Waiting in his dark clothing by the jeep, he watched the helicopter land.

Stepping up to the opening door with a smile in place on his face, he extended a hand. "Mr. Green? Welcome to the Island, I'm Dr. Sabin Duvert."

"Its a pleasure to meet you, Dr. Duvert!...Its a beautiful island I must say!" Marshall said with all honesty as he shook the white-haired man's hand. He wasn't sure why his Boss had given him the unexpected vacation, or why he gave him free plane tickets to this Tropical Resort-like place, but deep down he really didn't care.

"So, where do I check in?" Marshall asked, not really sure how this resort would work.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 31, 2006 12:02 am

"Well, technically speaking, you already are. It's a rather private resort as I'm sure you were told. But lucky you, it's owned by the same parent corporation as the one you work for, so we are able to cut some slack for in-house employees. We just need to take you back to the lab for a necessary vaccination against some of the tropical nasties, and then I'll see you to your room." Sabin smiled with a practiced ease as he helped load his luggage into the back of the jeep.

Holding hte door open for Marshall first, Sabin hopped in the driver's seat.

"Lab?...You mean, like a Doctor's Office, right?" Marshall asked as he got into the Jeep, putting his seat-belt on easily. He looked at the white-haired doctor, and for some reason, his stomach sank.

...A lab?
PostPosted: Thu Aug 31, 2006 12:15 am

"Something like that." Sabin said with a lift of his head as he put the jeep into gear and set off down a narrow dirt road, flanked closely to either side by thick, tropical jungle.

As he drove, Sabin elaborated a bit. "Again, the parent company owns the island, and it's mainly used for medical research. But seeing as how you don't need a whole damn island for medical research, a good part of it is the tropical resort. It sure beats out having any other location to work in, let me tell you!"

Eventually, the tall Feral Labs gate loomed into sight, swinging open and admitting the small jeep into the parking lot.

Sabin hopped out and got the door for Marshall. "You can leave your stuff in the jeep. We'll drive you out to the village and to your room after your innoculation." He smiled pleasantly and led him into the facilities.

The plush lobby with the beautiful view of the ocean was hardly paused in as Sabin headed for the double doors in the back, down a sterile hallway, and into the elevator that dinged open at their arrival.

"Floor 8" Sabin spoke alound before smiling to Marshall.

Perhaps Marshall was just stupid. Perhaps he just didn't sense any danger. But, on a subconcious level, he knew his life would never be the same after he hit that eight button.

...And he smiled back at the white haired man any way.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 31, 2006 12:23 am

Sabin took silence as consent, and it made his job easier.

The elevator lurched to a halt and the doors swung open, Sabin barely missing a beat as he strode out into a large, expensive-looking examination room.

He gestured to a chair. "Have a seat if you like, but this won't take a moment."

And then he flipped through the files on Marshall again. A webcomic - a screenshot of one of his websites... and a smile quirked on Sabin's mouth.

Glancing through the serum cabinet ...yes, he thought he had spied that serum bottle yesterday when he brought the other two people on. How perfectly suiting.

Sabin quickly filled a syringe with the bottle's contents, jotted a note in the file, and wiped the alcohol swab on Marshall's arm before giving him the injection.

A quick pinch, followed by a sting, and then a hot sensation spreading through his body from his arm.

Sabin tossed the needle away, and patted him on his other shoulder. "And we're done! That wasn't so bad, was it? Now, tropical beaches and jungles lie ahead of you."

Marshall flintched when the needle went into his arm, but like the Doctors usually say, it never hurts as bad as you think it does. The warm feeling coming over his body was strange though, but he shrugged it off as a side-effect of the drug.

"Sounds like fun. But think you could give me a ride to my place...Wherever that is here?" Marshall said with a slight chuckle.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 31, 2006 12:31 am

"No problem at all." Sabin said with a smile. He led him back into the elevator, and backtracked his way down to the jeep.

Sabin held the door for him again, and then set off out of a different gate, down another narrow dirt road.

Like Sabin had described, a few minutes later they emerged into a cluster of buildings - a large central building and then many two-story buildings radiating out from it.

"This is what we call 'the village.' You'll be staying in number 59." Sabin commented, driving up to the building in question and digging a key out of his pocket to hand to him.

"IF you have need of anything, you can probably find it in the 'town center' - there's a cafeteria, laundromat, small clinic, entertainment rooms, and you can get toiletries and other essentials. Barring that, you can dial '0' on the intercom." Sabin stopped the jeep and hopped out, helping Marshall with his luggage.

"Yes, thank you for all your help." Marshall said to the apparently kind white-haired man named Sabin. Putting his duffle-bag over his shouder and his back-pack on his other, he said his goodbyes to Sabin Duvert and went up the stairs into his flat.

"...This is going to be a great vacation. I just know it."

Learning The Truth
Marshall meets Nita and learns the truth about the island. He also goes back to his duplex hungry.

Nita MacNeal
Nita woke up late, her stomach growling protest at its emptiness. And of course, Nita's supply of food was gone. She squinted at the noontime sun streaming into her window. The trek to the cafeteria would be uncomfortably warm, but at least the building was air-conditioned.

A few minutes later, the girl was casually dressed, her hair confined to braids as usual. She entered the cafeteria with a sigh, thoroughly grateful of the chilled air. Nita went through the line, nodding at the serving woman, before taking a seat at a nearby table.

Marshall_Green
Marshall had spent the day wandering around the "resort", finding some places he'd want to remember...The beach bar, the arcade, that one room with all those DVDs (which he'd have to take inventory of later), and last but not least; the cafeteria.

Shoving his hands into his pockets, he walked into the well-lit room, seeing a rather strangely-happy woman standing behind a counter, a red-headed girl with her back to him eating some thing, and...A BUFFET!

Ignoring the red-headed girl for the time being, he went over to the food, placing some sushi (which looked better than it usually did for some reason), cookies, and a can of Coke on the tray. He turned around, smiling, before dropping his tray in uter shock.

...WAS THAT A TAIL?!?!
Nita MacNeal
Nita jumped several inches out of her chair at the sudden noise. She had seen Marshall enter, but it hadn't registered that he was still completely human. Or that he might not have known the truth about the place yet.

"Um," she began, eyeing the spilled food. "There's some paper towels over there." The red panda girl pointed across the room, doing her best to act as if guys dropped trays at her appearance every day.

Marshall_Green
Calm down, Marshall...Calm down...She's probably just...Cosplaying...Yeah, its a resort after all. They probably have people dressued up as...red...lemur...bear things, right? That makes perfect sense! Yeah! She's just cosplaying. That fluffy tail is just animatronic. Just shrug it off!

"Oh, heh heh...Um, sorry about that. Must've spaced out or some thing." Marshall said with an akward laugh, walking over and grabbing the paper towels. "So, how much they paying you?" he asked her as he kneeled down to clean up the pudding cup and raw fish that fell.

Nita MacNeal
"It's alright," Nita told him. And it was, really. A dropped tray and a bit of staring was hardly the worst reaction she'd received. Like being felt up, or having it made obvious they thought she was crazy.

Nita blinked. "Paid?" she repeated. Oh boy. "Unfortunately, I'm not paid anything." Except for Moreau giving her that enormous TV and the clothing. She sighed. "Let me guess... I'm the first person you've met here," she said dryly.

Marshall_Green
Marshall looked up from his mess-cleaning with a raised eye-brow. What did she mean she wasn't payed? Wasn't that slave labor? Was she one of those island natives that gets enslaved by the insane and mean-spirited foreigner?! He's seen that in movies! It must be true!

Right. And Pegasus is going to live next door.

"Um...Actually, you're the second. The first person I met was this really weird white-haired guy...He was pretty nice though. He dressed like he was in the 1700s but still." Marshall said with a smile as he finished up cleaning the spilled pudding.

Nita MacNeal
So much for the vain hope that this guy already knew what was going on.

"That would have been Dr. Duvert. And he gave you a shot for what's supposed to be for some nasty tropical disease." Nita's tone indicated that she spoke from experience.

She nibbled idly on a handful of bamboo leaves. "Look. You might want to come sit down. Some people take this pretty hard."

Marshall_Green
Marshall cocked his head to the side, totally confused by what this red-headed...And red-bodied, as the case may be...girl meant. "You mean it wasn't for some rare tropical disease thing?" he asked as he took a seat, not really sure what she was about to tell him.

But he got the sinking feeling... that it had some thing to do with her costume.
Nita MacNeal
Oh boy.

"Not exactly. It's rare, all right, and it only happens here. But it's something they do to us. Dr. Moreau is in charge, and has been developing a serum-based technology that basically turns humans into animals."

Nita looked directly at Marshall, trying to judge his reaction. After a moment of silence she added, "I'm becoming a red panda."

Marshall_Green
Marshall raised an eye brow. She had to be joking. Or looney. No, she seemed far too stable to be insane. That Sabin fellow was probably more insane, all things considered. His face was, in a sense, unreadable. He wasn't sure if she was being serious or just picking on him.

"...You sure its just not a costume?"

Yes. He was seriously THAT dense.

Nita MacNeal
"If this is a costume, your head is made of tissue paper." Nita cracked a grin and held out her arm. "See? Fur. Growing from my skin. If you pull on it, it hurts. Same with the tail. Lemme tell you, that thing was a b***h to grow!"

The girl cocked a brow back at Marshall. "I'm Nita, by the way. Apparently I got to play Welcoming Committee this time."

Marshall_Green
"Well...This is rather strange." Marshall said, rubbing the back of his neck. At a closer look, there was no way to deny that it was fur. Real fur.

Instead of bugging out, living in denile, or yelling at her, he seemed almost...unphased. But this was only on the surface. Underneath it all, he was scared beyond reason. A tail! A tail of all things! And FUR! Must've been itchy to grow...But the tail! Shrugging off the tail phobia and taking her rather furry hand, he shook it happily.

"The name's Marshall. Its nice to meet you, Nita."
Nita MacNeal
Nita was distinctly relieved to see Marshall taking the news so well. Of course, she was hardly the most disturbing person he could have met. And at least she would tell him the truth.

"Nice to meet you, too," she said with a grin. "So. What'd they tell you to get you here?" Nita sat back in her seat, sipping at her soda.

Marshall_Green
"Well...Two weeks payed vacation at a private resort...Now that I think about it, I should've known it was a total scam." Marshall said with a slight chuckle, "But I never thought it'd be this...strange. No offense!" Marshall said, not sure how sensitive she was about the whole ordeal.

"So, um...What else are people...Turning into?" he asked. He TRIED to find a better way to word it, but in all honesty that was just impossible.
Nita MacNeal
"Well, the island does look like a resort.. and it is private!" Nita snickered. "No offense taken. You learn pretty quickly there's no real point in getting all huffy. Since everyone's turning into something.

The red-head tugged thoughtfully at the end of one long braid. "Let's see. My neighbor downstairs is a shark of some sort. The guy next door is a giraffe... I have a friend turning into a lion and another is a snow leopard." She hesitated for a moment.

"If you see a purple guy with tentacles, that's Billy. He's.. not exactly the friendliest of people." Nita shuddered, remembering her last encounter with the octopus-man. It had taken ages to get that nasty black ink out of her fur.
Marshall_Green
Marshall nodded, almost like he was taking notes mentally. "So...A giraffe, a shark, an octopus, a snow leopard, and a lion!" Marshall repeated. He then started to picture them in his head. If they were any thing like Nita, they all must be rather civilised for animal-people...That sounds almost a little racist!

"So...Um...How do you get from human to...?" he wasn't sure how to word it. Animal? Were-person? ...Furry thing?
Nita MacNeal
"It's all in the injections they give you. The first one, when you get here, is supposed to prepare your body for the changes or something. For the changes themselves, they usually inject you when you're asleep. It varies from person to person, but I changed the first time after I'd been here about a month, and the second change was maybe six weeks later."

Nita paused for a moment. "Jesus. I've been here for almost five months now..." Although she still kept track of the passage of time, putting it like that made it seem a lot longer.
Marshall_Green
He listened intently, hanging on every word she said. This was so amazing for him; Animal People! He'd been drawing them for years, but to know they kind of existed...Well, he didn't want to, but he found it cooler than it should've been. That was until she mentioned how long she'd been there. Marshall bit his bottom lip, thinking about being here for that long. His job, his freinds, his family...Oh lord...I shouldn't ask. I really shouldn't. It'll just end up really bad. Really, really, bad...But...

"...Has any one...Ever been able to...Leave?"
Nita MacNeal
Nita shook her head. "No. We're not allowed any contact with the outside world at all. But really... I mean, I'm still relatively normal-looking. Can you imagine me walking around on campus, or going for job-interviews?"

She shrugged and finished up her brunch. "Look, I'm sorry I had to dump all this on you, but you needed to know."
Marshall_Green
"N-No, its fine...I much rather hear it from a nice person...Um, well, it was very nice to meet you, Nita...I wish it was under better circumstances, but, um...I'll catch you around. I'm down at 59, if you ever want to drop by or some thing." Marshall said, with a forced smile that didn't even fool himself.

Getting up, he waved to her good bye as he walked out the front doors, hands burried deep inside his vest pockets.

That last part...That last part was the stinger...
Nita MacNeal
Damn. 59? And people had been so surprised to learn there were over 40 people when she'd arrived!

"Take care of yourself, Marshall, okay? And I'm in 42, if you ever need anything." Nita watched him leave, staring blankly at the door. Eventually, the girl shook herself back to reality. Not particularly wanting to be cooped up in her duplex just then, Nita strode out of the village and into the jungle.

Trippin' on the Magic Dragon
In which Marshall meets Zach. Neither of them like each other.

Marshall_Green
New RP

Marshall was not having a particuarly good day on this humid morning in late summer. Perhaps it had some thing to do with the realisation that he would never see his family, freinds, or general loved ones ever again. That or the bad eggs he chocked down that morning (even in times of great depression, he still had an appetite). Either way Marshall was not in a particuarly good mood.

Deciding to vent his sour mood by taking another tour, this time he found himself wandering past the rather "urban" setting of the Duplexes and into the green, humid jungle. For a city boy who had never even been out of the state of California, a jungle like this was astonishing. If he wasn't silently cursing the entire world and every one in it, he could have possibly enjoyed himself.
Zachary Bloodstone
The jungle was warm, and that seemed to put Zach into a good mood. He'd recently climbed down from a tree branch when the height had gotten to him, and decided instead to sit at the base of the tree. Clawed hands flew through the air to ward off the larger mosquitos and other bloodsuckers that plagued him where he hadn't grown scales. His face was still pretty sore, and the left side was spotted with ugly bluish-purple bruising, but he'd been able to take off the splint that morning.

After taking a couple of the perscription pain medication, he dozed off against the trunk of the tree, tail twitching as he slept.
Marshall_Green
Marshall would never be famous for understanding and knowing his surroundings perfectly. Years of city life will do that to you. Sadly, out here in a jungle, not knowing your surroundings could, in fact, lead to your demise.

...Or, in Marshall's case, lead you to not notice a very large scaly winged thing zonked out on medication, and lead you to step on large scaly winged thing's tail and fall face-first into the dirt.

"Erg...CAN ANY THING ELSE GO WRONG?!!" he screamed as he got up from the dirt, trying to wipe it off his face with his sleeve, STILL not noticing the dragon-man.
Zachary Bloodstone
"Hrrrrrgh!" Both eyes snapped open, and his tail now sweeped in wide arcs, some whisking close to the fallen individual. He bared his teeth in a gutteral growl, but soon went back to snoring, his eyes dim but still open. It was lucky Zach wasn't that light a sleeper.

But he'd only had a minute more of his nap before the yelling snapped him out of it. Once again some flicker of consciousness lit up his face, and he mumbled something unintelligible under his breath, blinking the sleep from his eyes. Lots of green... the jungle. He must have fallen asleep there. He stretched both arms out and yawned widely, inadvertently showing his teeth, and started to stretch his wings before he noticed he wasn't alone. "Uh, hello...?"
Marshall_Green
Marshall was stuck. Frozen. He could probably feel the cosmos and not even notice it, being numbed by fear and all has that nasy effect. His eyes looked like they were about to buldge out of his skull. This...giant...red...lizard thing looked like it could snap him in half and not even notice it.

So...THATS...The stick I tripped on...Heh..Eh heh..

"Ummmmmm....Hi." Marshall managed to squeak out, still not moving. His face, while still covered in dirt, still showed his combined look of horror, shock...and a little bit of awe.

...I...I think its a dragon...?
Zachary Bloodstone
The giant red lizard stared back at the other guy for a minute and a half with a look of tired annoyance before attempting to smile pleasantly. Another new arrival, by the expression on his face. It spoke for itself. He folded his wings back and wondered if this guy would be more receptive to the lie he'd spun for Gaius.

He propped his head up with one hand. "Let me guesss - you're new here."
Marshall_Green
Okay...Okay...Remain. Calm. You got that?! REMAIN. CALM. He's still human!...Kind of. No! No! He's just like Nita! Still human but with a more...Animal approach. There is NOTHING to be afraid of.

...Who the hell am I kidding!?

"Um...Um, uh, yes. I just got here, um...three days ago or...Um...So....Yeah..." Marshall stuttered, trying his hardest not to be afraid. This guy looked scary, but he still SEEMED human, right? Talked like it at least.

"M-My name is Marshall." he said, introducing himself for no apparent reason other than screaming 'OHMIGAWDYOURSCARY' is considered quite rude in most cultures.
Zachary Bloodstone
"I sssee." He continued to veil his voice and expression with a benign look, trying his hardest to keep his tail from moving around too much. It would give him away if it looked as real as it was. "Nicsse to meet you, Marshall. I'm Zachary." He held out his scaly left hand confidently, as if daring Marshall to shake it.
Marshall_Green
Marshall manage to hide a shudder at the way Zach streached out his "s" sounds. It was just sort of...creepy to the young man. Seeing Zach extend his claw-hand, Marshall let out an audible sigh before grasping it with his still-human hand.

"Its nice to meet you, Zach. Sorry about your...Um...Tail, thing." Marshall said with a smile.
Zachary Bloodstone
"Three daysss, hm?" He released Marshall's hand after a single shake. "How many other people have you met around here?"

"Oh, thisss?" he laughed quietly, waving absently at his tail. He drew on a lie he'd heard before, hoping it would correlate with whatever Marshall had been told. "Don't worry about it. It'sss... exsspensssive, but replacssable. Just animatronicsss."
Marshall_Green
It'ss exsspensssive, but replacessable...

Marshall was stunned when he said that. Was he serious? Nita had told him that people were turned INTO these creatures. That it wasn't animatronic. That it was real. That it HURT. But...Nita could've been lying. Marshall wasn't the brightest, and was pretty gullible. Even he could admit that.

"...Okay then. Mind if I try on your costume then?" Marshall asked plainly.
Zachary Bloodstone
The question caught him off guard, making him raise his frill slightly in alarm. This newcomer caught on awfully quick to what was going on, and that ruined all the fun of misleading him. "I, uh, I do mind. It takesss an hour and a half jussst to get it all on. I don't want to wassste time. You underssstand, right?"
Marshall_Green
"Uh huh...Yeah, I understand." Marshall said with a smirk. He took a mental note of this; Zach was a liar. Marshall was a kind soul, but being lied to...NOT some thing he liked.

"Well," he started, finally removing the dirt completely from his face (and staining his shirt in the process), "I better head back to my Duplex now. Who knows? They might have my own costume waiting for me there." Marshall said, showing a slight sneer. Tipping an invisble hat as he walked off, he could only think one thing:

...LORD am I happy that shmuck wasn't the first person I met.
