we have sections, and chairs, but somtimes when people are being stupid or annoying they sit out of order. Other sections either sit where theyr suposed to or they sit in there section where they want. usually first chair sits in 1 chair cause there prideful. xp

Concert band, you just have to sit by section and part, (i.e. First Clarinets) and all 5 directors come in the first day and arrange you to where they think would be good (Sucks 'cause it's biased)
Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, though, you have to test at the beginning of the year for your chair, and you can challenge to move up a seat or two. I heard it gets very competive near Concert time.

Our seating is pretty strict too but i don't have a problem with it. Basically our bd just put's you where he thinks you deserve to be. Like for my section he has the two seniors that are definitely better than the rest of us as the first two chairs and then there's me a sophmore, then a junior then another sophmore who thinks she's better than everyone else but isn't, then there's some freshmen and another junior as last chair. It's not biased at all. it all depends on how good you are and how much you are willing to work.

During class, we have assigned spots. During marching band, we have to be in our numbered order (they give us all a number so it's easier to identify us or something like that) and in concert band, we go by our seat number. Although during non contest concert band performances, we have an area to sit in, but it's first come, first serve basically.

During marching season, we can sit wherever we want within our section. However, during concert season, we have a strict seating order. We have a chair test at the beginning of concert season, and you're stuck with that chair all year. We were supposed to have challenges this year, but they just sort of never happened. It's all good, though--I'm happy with my chair.

We're suppose to, just like we're not suppose to have any more auditions but the band director has no backbone...

We sit in chairs all the time, except when were not playin on a day or whatever, you know. If the section leader (ex. me for the flutes/picc, but im the only picc) and if someone in a lower chair can play a piece better than one closer than me, they will take each others chairs for just that piece. It's really up 2 the sections leaders, but you usually sit in chair placements.
