Kumoru quietly slipped off his soft shoes and left them by the door, where they could sit and be damp in peace and not run the risk of discharging the water with which they were sodden all over the floor. The air spell that had been his umbrella faded, no longer powered by his concentration.
The mage watched, a faint smile gracing his lips, as Vanille pinched two scones from the oven. He stood for a moment just watching her, wrapping his ponytail around his hand a few times and draping it over his shoulder in hopes that this would help prevent it from dripping on the floor.
"Alright," he told her quietly when she suggested drying off upstairs. When she beckoned to him, Kumoru quickly followed after, trying to keep his steps as light as possible.

Nodding, the mage started up the steps; he kept count as he went. The third stair managed to creak a little before Kumoru shifted his weight back off of it, but he tried again, placing his foot a bit closer to the wall. Wincing a bit at the noise that had already been made, he continued up, placing one foot in front of the other on each stair, right up against the wall. Fortunately, he managed to maintain relative silence the rest of the way up.
When he reached the top, Kumoru paused again, waiting for Vanille's next instructions.

The mage stepped into the room, glancing around and marveling at the relative tidyness; he tried not to think too much on what a wreck his library was at the moment. Not that he was disorganized or anything, it was just so much easier to take something out than it was to put it away.
He took the umbrella from Vanille when she handed it to him, but did so with his cut left hand by mistake. Wincing a little, Kumoru quickly switched hands, then peered down at the bandages, which were now quite damp. He hadn't realized how uncomfortable they were until now. In fact, all of him being wet wasn't the greatest feeling, now that he was in a dry place.
"Where shall I sit?" Kumoru asked. "Don't want to get any of your nice furniture wet if I can help it." He tried to remain as still as possible, so the water that occationally dripped from his clothes wouldn't get all over the floor... or not as quickly, anyway.

Kumoru bowed a bit in thanks and took a seat on the trunk. He continued to glance about the room, taking all of it in as one might look over an Eye-Spy page before reading over the list of specifics to locate.
As Vanille spoke, the mage turned his attention back to her. "Thank you," he said with a small smile, then he laughed a bit and added, "We'll need a bit of warmth to chase away that absolutely overwheming good feeling today's weather has left us."

‘That we will,’ Vanille couldn’t stop the sigh that escaped her lips as she dragged her hands through her rat-tail hair. If she’d known the heavens were deciding to unleash such a heavy downpour on them all that morning she might never have gotten out of bed. As it was, she could do nothing about that now, so she should just focus on making sure her guest was comfortable.
…And she could accomplish that by helping him to get dry again.
There were a couple of towels folded neatly on a shelf in her wardrobe, so Vanille crossed the room, pulled back the creaky-hinged doors and stood on tiptoes to fetch a pair. Then she tossed one to Kumoru and began dabbing her hair dry. ‘Here, that might be useful.’

"Thank you," Kumoru said as he took the towel, bending slightly at the waist in that automatic gesture of gratitude. He reaches up to take the tie out of his hair, then tosses his head a bit as he lets his hair down. Setting the length of cord in his lap, he starts working on toweling off his hair, clearly being careful to avoid tangling it.
Had Vanille voiced her sentiments about not getting out of bed, the mage would have readily agreed. Persistant downpours getting his hair and robes soaked were certainly not things he enjoyed. So much better to spend days like today curled up in his study, pouring over some ancient tome with a magnifying glass. But all things happen for a reason, and today at least, his choice to get up and go out in spite of the weather had, at the very least, earned him someone with whom to converse.
"How has your lantern been doing?" he inquired as he continued to work on drying his hair.
