Aphismet blinked in startlement as Chloe showed interest in pizza. She was trying to learn to cook? Well at least there was one thing he could do well... He had never thought he would be good enough to teach someone, but if she doesn't know how, he could at least show her. He smiled slightly and nodded, already wondering what else might go wrong if he invites her to his house again.

Still, he wanted to at least TRY to make friends. And perhaps practice his people skills, lacking as they were at the moment.

"Sure," he offered. "I could show you some day, if erm, if you don't mind visiting again. Or, or if you'd rather um... that is, your kitchen might b-be nicer than, erm, that mine... I-I'm sure you noticed my kitched was only the size of... um, I suppose a closet would be a good comparison." Aph chuckled weakly.

Rivener smirked to himself. He was much happier than he thought he would be, now that he'd seen Roux's interest in the girl didn't extend THAT far... It was Roux's right to be as interested as he wished in the girl, of course, but for some odd reason Riv still felt relieved. He'd have to think about that later.

The Raevan floated down to "sit" next to his Icy friend, and peered at the things Roux was pointing to. Everything sounded so different... Rivener had seen a few sushi things on TV, in movies... But they were never the focus, so he'd only ever seen them as tiny little black circled with white interiors, that people ate with sticks instead of a fork. He was a little surprised to see the pictures in the menu; noodles, Sashimi, sushi, maki... All kinds of things!

"Wow, there are so many things to try!" Riv wondered to himself. Of course, Roux's suggestions would be good, and he did decide on trying the Spicy Tuna roll... But he wanted to try a few different things that Roux might not have tried before, and share with him so they could try it together. He wondered if Roux liked the idea of sharing at all.

Riv turned a smile, sultry as always, to Roux, and spoke. "You tried these before, I assume? Are you getting all of them today? If you want, I can get a few things you didn't try yet, and we can share all of it so we get a bit of things you already tried, and a bit of new stuff?"

Of course it would ALL be new to Riv, but the Scorpion Raevan always craved new experiences.

Chloe smiled and nodded. "I'd love that, thank you. A-And yes, my kitchen is nice... y....... y-you could.." She flushed as she realized this meant a stranger would be coming over to her house. She'd have to do a lot of cleaning. "Y-you could come over."

She examined her menu, looking at a few of the things and decided to get her favourites. The shrimp tempura (which Roux had first tried because of her) and a smoked salmon roll with cream cheese.

Roux pressed his lips together... share...? The idea made him... well it made him feel especially protective and uncooperative. He shook his head firmly. No, he didn't want to share. At least not his own stuff... if Rivener picked something that looked tastey, then he'd definatly try some of it.

Aphismet smiled slightly, and concentrated on the menu. Lots of raw fish... He did come here to try something new, so he told himself he would buck up and take a Bento box thing with a mysterious variety of Sushi and rolls. He'd get roughly 6 pieces of random sushi, and 4 pieces of random roll. That seemed like a nice way to jump head-first into this...

Aph took a moment to glance up at Riv, making sure he wasn't kicking up a fuss. The Raevan, for now, seemed to be behaving.

Aphismet then turned back to Chloe, since his food decision was made, and once again attempted conversation. "So, um... do you come here often?" Oh gawd. he slapped himself mentally while trying to remain calm on the outside.

Rivener pouted slightly at Roux's refusal. He wasn't that upset, however; for some reason he had expected Roux to disagree. With a shrug and a smile Rivener turned to the menu and decided he would pick new things anyway.

He glanced at the menu quickly and decided he would like a sushi-sashimi combo, with 6 pieces of each. He would get to pick his own, so he picked 12 completely different flavors, wanting to try a bit of everything. This should do nicely.

"Which ones are you getting? I'm going to try all these, one of each!" he pointed to his choices. "I'm bound to like one, and then next time, I can have that and nothing else." He smiled.

"N-No.. not really. I've been here only twice before.. th-the first time my brother brought me f-for a celebration and the second I brought Roux i-in hopes to get him to try something new." She gave a sheepish little duck behind her menu, peeking just over the top at Aphismet.

Roux looked over at Rivener's choices, his expression was serious as he studied each item. He gave a small shrug and nod of his head, as though approving of Rivener's choices, and then pointed toward a few items on his own menu.

"Very yum, yes. Fish, fish, fish, shrimp, chewy, hot-good yes, yum." As he said each descriptive word he pointed to different things. The first three were fish, of course, the fourth was a shrimp nigiri, the fifth was octopus balls and the final was a spicy roll of some sort.

He glanced up at Rivener, his eyes peircing and cold as he watched the other, calculated him. For a moment fury welled up in his chest. Why should Rivener, one younger than he, be able to speak so well? What was the missing key in his own vocabulary?

Aphismet nodded at Chloe's words. "You have a brother? That's erm, nice... D-does he live nearby? You have lots of family nearby?" Aphi was busily studying his menu, keeping his eyes averted lest she see the jealousy in them. Aph didn't have any family left, and was all alone until Rivener came along... apart for Cuddles, of course. But that didn't count, did it. Chloe was lucky to have a brother.

Rivener noticed the sudden shift in Roux's mood, and wondered how best to avoid a flare. He smiled inwardly at the challenge, at how every little thing with Roux had to be calculated and made sure before you proceeded... like walking on a thin glass surface. "Thin ice" as they would say, no pun intended.

Riv smiled at the menu as he looked at Roux's choices.

"Hot? That spicy one? I was sure you wouldn't want something hot," he noted, leaning back. "You usually dislike hot things..." He tilted his head and looked up at the other Frei, watching the mesmerizing eyes.

Chloe gave a small smile, shaking her head toward Aphismet. "C-Cody lives in Durem... h-he's actually my half brother. He's all that's left of my family."

It wasn't too long ago that she'd spent the anniversery of her parents death on the beach with Roux. It'd been nice to have someone there with her for once, even if Roux didn't really -want- to be there and didn't understand why they had to be.

The waitress showed up, cheerful and smily and pleasantly helpful as all waitresses go to take their order. Chloe ordered for herself and Roux, already knowing what he was going to have. Once he found something he liked he refused to eat or try anything else.

Roux's fists clenched a bit tighter as Rivener spoke again, his words flowing together fluidly and elegantly. They reflected how he acted... everyone's words did. He faced away from Rivener with an angry, sullen expression, focusing his intense eyes on the table in front of him.

"So?" He pouted, and then looked back to Rivener, extremly concentraited. "I.... like.... hot... On..." He struggled with the word that he knew was supposed to be there, face growing even more frustraited. "On... my tongue. In my mouth."

Aphismet looked up at Chloe for a moment when she said that her family was gone. He smiled sheepishly as his eyes returned to his menu, staring at it uninterestedly. "Well, at least you have someone." An uncomfortable chuckle.

The waitress came, and after Chloe was done ordering, Aph ordered his food, and then Rivener, glaring at the poor girl as he muttered his choices. Aph winced and, once the Frei had turned back to Roux, the human apologized quietly to the woman. She left, polite smile on her face, but Aphi could only imagine the bad things she would say about him in the back room.

Aphi turned back to Chloe and simply blinked.

"Um, I'm sorry, I don't know what to, ah... to talk about."

Rivener smiled at Roux's words. He was obviously angry with Riv, and by his big effort, Rivener could now guess that he was angry about not being able to speak so well.

Riv tilted his head and smiled that honeyed grin of his. "You have such a nice voice, Roux. You shouldn't try to speak more, it makes it so much more special to hear you talk when you keep your words closely."

Riv attempted to reach a hand up and touch Roux's furry collar, if he would let him.

Chloe bit her lip and tilted her head slightly to the side in thought. "Ahm... w-well... what is your job like?" She hoped that would be an alright topic, she was honestly interested in what Aphismet did.

Roux smiled slowly, a very brief thing that disappered back to his usual bland, slightly aggitated expression, but it had been there.

And oh had he been pleased with what Rivener had said. He sat up a little straighter, wings ruffling with pride. He even let Rivener touch the collar, reaching up to touch the back of the other's hand as well.

Aphismet blushed slightly at the topic choice. He rubbed the back of his neck with a hand and chuckled slightly. "Um, my j-job? Well, um... I, uh, make pizza... six days a week for eight hours... one h-hour for, erm, lunch... " He laughed, "I'm not sure what to say about it. It's nothing very interesting, not like being a doctor or anything, not like your job." He wasn't sure exactly what Chloe was, but it was definately something more interesting than his own profession. If it could be called that.

Rivener's smile mellowed to a dark, sensuous bedroom thing for a moment while he was playing with the little things that poked out of the furry collar. He terribly enjoyed the feeling of Roux's fingers on the back of his hand. He lingered for a moment before removing his hand, placing it back on the table where it was "safe". It wouldn't do for Aphi to throw another fit for some reason or other. Riv's smile brightened back to a more normal (but still innately sensuous despite his best efforts) one, and he spoke again.

"I really like you a lot, Roux. I'm happy they let us come here together," he added with a head motion towards the two humans. "What else could we do together? What do you like?"

She canted her head slightly to the side as she listened to Aphismet talk, her expression full of interest and curiosity as she listened. "O-Oh.. I like cooking." She smiled softly. "It must be nice.. to-to ah.. cook. For a job."

She flushed slightly and looked down at the table. "Ah.. I j-just.. stand at the front and.. mm.. make sure a-all the papers are in o-order and appointments are m-made and filled. I h-help a.. a t-teeny tiny bit back in the l-lab but mostly with papers again. I-It's not that interesting but I love it!"

Roux's eyes flickered up to meet Rivener's, holding his gaze steadily and unblinkingly. Happy, yes.. that fit well enough. He looked up as the waitress came back with their food and set it in front of everyone. Rather than answering Riv's questions immediatly he instead lifted his chopsticks, holding them up so the other Raeven could see.

Carefully he broke them apart, then held them in his hand to show how it was to be done. He looked with interest over to Riv's plate, interested in the colorful display of the different things.

He half leaned against the other Raeven, his hand extending across as though to take a peice of his food as he tilting his head delicatly to the side, the feathers that formed tiny wings on his head brushing against Rivener's lips.

"Happy..." He took the desired morsel and sat back again. "...Ice."

He paused with the sushi roll half way to his mouth, eyes suddenly becoming distant and almost whistful, lips softly forming the word. For a moment all the rage that seemed forever present in the Frei washed away as he spoke the one word.

"Sky..."

And then it was back again, brows furrowing in frustraition as his wings twitched and spread only to retract and fold closed.

Aph chuckled lightly. It seemed they both admired the other's job, although for the life of him, Aphismet couldn't understand why someone would find anything about him interesting.

"Well, erm, yes... Th-that is, I do love to c-cook. But I, uh... I think I would like better to be a-allowed to make s-something other than, erm, pizza once in a wh-while..." He startled almost out of his chair as a hand passed in front of him to place the plate of food down. He'd been so concentrated on trying to figure out what to say, that he hadn't noticed the waitress arrive.

He smiled uneasily at the waitress as she left, wondering if he'd offended her. He then turned his attention to his plate, looking at all the strange food he'd never tasted. His face suddenly turned serious and he examined it all very closely, almost dissassembling it into its parts, studying them. If he liked it, he wanted to be able to make them at home.

He then took his chopsticks and began fumbling with them. His face returned to that meek expression as he clumsily broke them into their two parts, and then attempted to grasp them properly... failing spectacularly.

Rivener frowned slightly as Roux reached over for his food, although he said nothing. The feathers were tickling his lips, and if he opened his mouth to talk he might accidentally bite one.

He waited until Roux had taken the bite, listening, and by this time his annoyment had passed. He let the theft slip, as long as it didn't happen again.

"You like the sky?" he asked. "Do you mean looking at it, or flying?" Riv himself was more of a rock person. A warm rock would be his favorite thing, if he had one. But sky? Peh.

Chloe gave a small laugh, splitting her chopsticks and doing much like Roux had done to Rivener... she held out one hand, the other going to Aphismet's and lightly fixing his fingers into the right position.

"You.. ah.." She let go quickly, placing her hand in her lap as though she'd touched something burning hot, her head tilted forward lightly in embarassment. "H-Hold.. hold it like this. Keep your thumb and other finger s-still to.. to support the chopsticks and th-then.." She raised her hand slightly, clicking the two chopsticks together. "Move.. the middle finger.."

To give further example she picked up one of her sushi rolls, concentraiting very hard as she brought it to her mouth, popping the whole thing in. She gave a small smile of pride at having succeded in showing Aphismet how it worked. For the moment she forgot completely about Roux, not having to worry about him misbehaving or causing some sort of trouble.

The Frei set the sushi he'd nabbed from Rivener down on his plate, wings seeming to rustle and shift continuously. A single feather loosed itself from from one of his elegant wings and fluttered to the floor behind him unnoticed. He was too busy clenching his fists in frustraition, teeth gritted.

Flight.. the sky.

He looked down at his food, expression souring with anger and the barest trace of disappointment. His hands clenched as once more something that eluded him clouded his mind. He glared down at the meal sitting before him unseeingly.

Aph blushed hotly as Chloe touched his hand. This was the first time Aph could remember than a female had touched him... well, that is, without being an accident. And apart for his Mother, but that didn't count.

She removed her hand quickly, so Aph was almost sure it's because she had seen his expression and didn't want him to read anything into the motion... The man had then watched her show him how to use them, but his muddled brain had only half understood. He attempted to grab the chopsticks, and while he was indeed much better than previously, he was still not very good at it. He managed to take a piece of his sushi, lift it in one piece, and pop in it his mouth.

He looked at the ceiling as he considered the flavor, the texture. The vinegared yet sweet rice was a surprise; he thought the thing would mostly taste like fish, but it seemed like the fish was meant to compliment the rice, both things working together. "Salt, vinegar, sugar..." He noted to himself what was probably in the rice, so that he might try it later.

After having swallowed, he turned back to Chloe and smiled, blushing a bit still. "It's, ah... it's very g-good!"

Rivener was blinking at Roux in concern. Did he not want the sushi anymore? For a minute, Riv almost reached over and took the piece back, but it seemed like Roux was upset about something else.

"Roux? Are you ok?" he asked, tilting his head.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 04, 2007 3:14 pm

Roux ignored Rivener, as much as he liked the other Frei and how delicious and complimentive he was. His eyes remained distant and unblinking on the table before him, hands clenched into fists, wings occasionally giving a restless flutter and jolt.

She hadn't realized it until Roux'd been sitting stoic and still for some time, her food had been gone and she'd been distracted carrying on her awkward conversation with Aphismet. When she had looked up to find the Ice Raeven lightly covered in frost she'd gasped, standing up.

There'd been a bit of chaos as she fell over herself and the waitress (who'd tried to assist) in paying for the bill and getting Roux out and into the car, all the while apologizing to Aphismet and Rivener. The panic was real and wild in her as the characteristically furious Frei was instead ice cold and silent.

The car ride was equally awkward, which she tried to alleviate by exiting the car, standing on the sidewalk outside of Aphismet's home.

"I.... I'm so sorry.." She bit her lip, trying hard to subdue the embarassment. "..I.. I don't think.. you'll ever th-think well of me." She said the last few words in a rushed sigh, shoulders sagging. "P-Please forgive me.."

Riv had eaten in silence, and although he'd kept his eye on the other Raevan, he'd been unwilling to say anything to either human until much later in the night. And when he had, Chloe had had the expected reaction, and the whole group of them had rushed out.

Aphismet had paid as quickly as he could. When he was in the car, he couldn't help from wringing his hands, somehow feeling responsible for the Ice Frei's condition; surely Riv had said or done something... He simply couldn't make himself be comfortable around the girl and her Raevan.

When she'd let them out, Riv had stayed near the car and was looking at Roux in concern through the window, until Aph shooed him inside. He obeyed reluctantly, wondering what was going on...

Aph was then startled by the girl's words. He couldn't make his own throat work to say that he DID think well of her, that it was HIMSELF he didn't think much of! He just stood there shaking his head no-no-no, hoping she would look up. Gah, if only he wasn't such a klutz!
