He wondered if she was wincing behind him, but he couldn’t help but chuckle at the idea. “They’ll still do that-“ Phib admitted. “But, they spawn on occasion and clog up the rivers. You can practically walk on fish during certain times of the year.” It did have the problem of bringing bears, however- but Phib had been keeping a cautious eye on just how many other predators made themselves welcome in his woods.

But as for the sand, he’d never really thought about it. “It’s the water I don’t like. The sand doesn’t bother me much.” In fact- he was almost hydrophobic. Ironic that he had surrounded himself in a packlands where the major problem was flooding, and the most bountiful resource was found in the water. “Once it dries, it just falls off.”

Amélie followed softly behind Gizmo, switching back and forth between connections so the sorrow would not flood her so readily- but, she was unwilling to simply close it off completely. Her own eyes veiled somewhat and she sighed. Why did things like that happen? She hushed the thoughts before they grew, however. She didn’t believe in questioning things. When she did, she was often confounded by the answers.

“Sometimes...I think things work and we don’t know how they do. I think it is best to see how time takes us,” She spoke. Somewhere- in her, she didn’t feel that the storm had killed all of the family. They were enshadowed; she could not feel them because she had never met them. But she felt optimism, that somehow things would eventually be okay.

In the bright orange glow, all of the wolves gained long stretching shadows as the bright light hit down on them. Even Rem looked like a giant on the shore. Phib had to admit- he did like the sunsets here, even if he was not too wild about all the water.

"Things will be okay." Amelie repeated softly, and glanced at the sunset. She couldn't see it, but it was warm on her face.

He listened to Phib's words and could not help but imagine a sea of fish so tightly packed that he'd be able to walk across them like a bridge. It sounded like a lot of fun though he sort of felt sorry for the fish being squished like that.

Water is...wet. Rem said, giving the elder wolf a mischevious grin. I don't mind getting my paws wet but swimming is another matter altogether! Water was only useful for drinking and unlike his father Rem was not a big fan of swimming.

Oh! Rem finally seemed to notice the darkening sky and gave a small yip of excitement, raising his head to stare up at the sky which was shadowing with the coming of night. Stars had begun to twinkle at the highest point of the sky, burning white fire as they stared down at their canine children below.

Sun down! Sun down! He called cheerfully, tail wagging as he swerved from his path to pad towards the frothing waves. The water licked eagerly at his forepaws as the young wolf raised his head to howl his heart into the wind. The sound was high-pitched and young telling all who heard that a youngster was nearby. However it was not to nearby wolves he called, it was a summoning for the moon.

Gizmo's ears perked up at his son's howl, a soft smile on his maw as he watched the silhoetted form of the pup up ahead. The moon was a guide, a light, a heaven and as he turned his own almond-shaped eyes up to the sky he knew that somehow everything would be okay.

Dead or alive, his children and mate would find sanctuary.

Miracles. He murmered in response to his companion's words, turning his head slightly to gaze at the female through half-lidded eyes. Gizmo believe in miracles. And with that said he skittered forwards through the sand, coming to a halt beside his son.

Then a second later his own deeper song joined his son's in the most haunting and beautiful harmony that could be heard upon the world.

Now that earned the pup quite a few pluses in respect points. Phib almost despised swimming, although it hadn’t stopped him from fishing for Malik so long ago, or preparing to go in after the lonely would-be-suicider. Actually, after considering it and peering down at the young wolf’s eager eyes, he had to wonder why he always seemed to find ways to get himself in water. He certainly didn’t appreciate it. Amélie occasionally claimed he was a masochist- and it brought a slight quirk to his smile. Of course- he wasn’t really too enthralled with the idea that he was subconsciously punishing himself as well.

It was a good scene, even someone as bitter as him had to admit. Them all sitting there in the sunset, and the child running around pleasantly underfoot. There were things to be done- but maybe a bulk of them could wait for him to worry over until tomorrow. He liked the quiet that seemed to be absorbing them- and noted privately that he had not actually apologized to Amélie for yelling at her earlier.

Amélie herself soaked up what feelings she could get for the others, and tried to paint a picture of the sunset in her own eyes. Something from what she remembered- the sun over the snowy hills back in the old country. She still did not know what the ocean really truly looked like- but she imagined it had to be something like that. There were times when the snow had looked like it stretched on into eternity-

“I believe in miracles too.” Amélie smiled, and nodded her head peacefully.

Phib wasn't sure if he was appreciative of the sentiment- it conflicted with his generally pessimistic view. But for the duration of the sunset, he yawned and reposed himself somewhat, and allowed the idea of it to tickle at the back of his mind.
