Alec inwardly cursed for not bringing any food with him until he remembered his uncanny tendency to stuff random snacks into his pant pockets for later consumption. Delving into his pocket, he produced a piece of jerky that was in quite a sorry state. He didn't want to treat her like an animal but it looked like she was insistant on ignoring anything he was saying. Leaning over, he reached out and offered the tidbit as it was all he had. "This coul' tide ye oveh, bu' a think ye betteh come to th'caf o' somethin. Did ye sho' do i' though?" He was of course referring to her injections, mentioning it as a possiblity for her lean frame. From where he sat he couldn't figure out what creature she was mirroring although even if he knew, he wouldn't know if it was normal or not for the species.

Fiona recoiled from the offering, both her animal tastes and her human tastes disgusted. Processed death! Augh! Turning back around and presenting her backside to him, she went back down to the end of her tunnel and resumed digging frantically. Must! Evade! Predator! Especially with the smell of that awful thing he had invading her sharpened senses!

"Ugh, fine." Alec grunted in frustration, tossing the lint-covered niblet of jerky into the woods somewhere. It was edible but he wasn't exactly hungry enough to want to eat something in such a sorry state. "Thas no' gonna do aneh good yanno!" The sharkboy yelled over to the frantic rabbit with growing edge in his voice.

In desperation and an uncaring nature only acquired once one had exhausted all ideas that had come to mind, he picked up a stray branch and fed it into the burrow. He proceeded to poke at her from behind. "Come oooou'."

The smallest, vaguest of growls came from the dephs of the burrow. Agitated, the rabbit-girl suddenly whipped around and shot out of the run, dashing off past her tormentor and into the trees. She ran in a clumsy, awkward lope, bent over and on all fours, which made her pace far slower than that of the average human being. But she was still moving!

Alec listened for any reaction to his prodding, growing an amused grin when he heard the girl grow aggitated inside the burrow. Good! Maybe if she'd get pissed off at him she'd forget about being terrified for a moment!

"AY!" The teen barked as she shot past him, sharp reflexes turning abruptly in her direction though he hadn't thought about grabbing her as she made an escape. Scrambling to his feet, he could only stare at her lobsided form as it sprinted through the underbrush. His rubbery feet were too sensitive to engage in a full-out run through uneven terrain, but he couldn't just let her escape. In a last-ditch effort, he grabbed another rock and flung it at her. "Come back!!!"

As the rock landed nearby with a crash through some bushes, the girl kept running (if it could be called that). Only when she could barely be seen by the nasty beast through the trees did Fiona pause, hop-scramble behind a rock, and look back to see if it was following. Her heart hammered, and the part of her mind attributed to higher thought began to be tickled into wakefulness by an unnerving sense of deja vu.

Alec frowned and gave up on his aim, figuring if he hadn't hit her that time then there was no way he'd hit her from even farther a distance. Flopping back down and crossing his legs, he did nothing more but stare back at the girl. "DID A' AT LEAST SKIM YE BUM?" He yelled out to her with a tinge of sadism, though he was more pleased that he was now standing between her and her hiding place.

She stared back at him, shifting from side to side. The gears in her head began to creak and turn. After many months on auto-pilot something more than eating and sleeping was required of her, and it was stimulating parts of her brain that had long been napping. Half-hidden, her face scrunched into a distinctly human frown.

Alec squinted, trying to pick out her features from a distance. From the looks of it she was looking awefully unhappy all of a sudden, perhaps his 'methods of communication' were finally working. "Me name's Alec!" The teen called out cheerfully, hoping for a more humanoid reply. She didn't looked changed enough, it was impossible she could be that far gone. "...Ye go' a name, righ'?"

This time when the noises came, she was ready for it, and listened more carefully, picking out words. Words- people- island- Annie! Everything came rushing back far too quickly, the thoughts unwanted, the safety and comfort of oblivion slipping away between her fingers like so many grains of sand. Tears collected in her eyes, and began to drip down her smudged face, leaving streaks where pale skin showed through. 'Annie...' Fiona fell back, collapsing onto her rear and crossing her arms over herself, her forehead drooping to rest against her knees. Her body became wracked with silent sobs. It was all too much!

"Anneh?" Alec smiled when he heard the coherent reply, glad that he'd finally received a civil response from the poor woman. "Nice." He of course assumed it was her name and moved on in other attempts to retrieve information, like why exactly she'd isolated herself in the wild for so long. "'ow long ye been ou' 'ere? Th'eatins c'nt be tha' good." The teen chuffed amusedly, sitting cross-legged in the dirt.

His amusement faded when he saw the subtle shudder in her shoulders, noticing the change in posture. "Ey.... ye ekay? Ye 'urt?" The shark boy got to his feet faster than he'd expected, beginning a slow pace towards her with concern.

"Go 'way!" She croaked suddenly, squeezing her eyes shut and shuffling to the side. This wasn't what she wanted. She was supposed to be able to forget everything, leave it behind. No, no, it wasn't fair. "M'name's Fiona," the girl grunted, glaring at him out of the corner of her eye and hobbling farther away. Gawd, her back was sore. And her throat. And her legs. Augh, her skin was itching, too! Everything was so much easier when she didn't have to think. Then this freak had to show up and remind her of who she was! "Ge'lost!" Fiona shouted, her voice slurred and cracking, more and more tears trailing down her face. Her muscles tensed, and with every step he took her posture threatened: I'm about to run away!

Alec stopped immediately, seeing that her state was browing worse with every step closer. "Ekay, ekay." The teen held up his hands in a non-threatening gesture and backed off. At least now she was talking, even if it was only to tell him to bugger off. Couldn't she see or feel how bad of a state she was in? If so, then why wouldn't she just let him help her?

Mind wandered to the possibility of grabbing a shirt of somesort from his duplex to bring back to the naked, trembling rabbit girl but he was unsure if it would do any good. Maybe it was better if he just left her alone...

"Feh'ona, sorreh." He allowed himself to be corrected, his feet still moving in the opposite direction. "Ye wan' me t'ge' ye a shirt o' somethin? A coul' ge' i' real quick-" Even as he spoke, he was walking in the direction of his duplex. "Joost... stay theh."
PostPosted: Mon Sep 04, 2006 4:23 pm

Stay there? She certainly had no intention whatsoever of obeying that suggestion. As soon as the intruder in her little blissful sanctuary of oblivion had left her range of senses, she ran off. Scampering away in the opposite direction from where he went, Fiona abandoned the 'burrow' she had so painstakingly hollowed out over the course of several weeks. Her rabbit 'instinct' told her to go back underground and get out of the open, but her human logic, recently reawakened and clamoring for some breathing room, demanded she get as far away as possible from the scene of the crime. And so, thoughts and desires and discomforts wailing in her skull, Fiona ran hunched over on all fours, her knees and shins scraped and bleeding on rocks and roots. Run. Run!

When Alec managed to find his way back to the site where he'd found Fiona, his fears were confirmed. The burrow now abandoned completely, she'd taken off without a trace. Heaving a heavy sigh, the teen clutched the white t-shirt in his grip and shook his head as he wandered his way out of the jungle. I guess she's happier out there.
