"Uh-huh. Contrary. It's um..." Lassa paused for a moment, clearly brought up short. "Like... He doesn't break the rules but... oh, I know! Like he's not allowed on the couch, so he'll pull the cushions off and put 'em on the floor and sit on 'em there. Not BREAKING the rules, but not really following them either." Lassa grinned, winking one bobble eye. Lassa was on Polar's side of rule-keeping. "He's a good dog though. Do you have any pets?" Lassa put a high importance on pets.

Gullien nodded somewhat sympathetically. Why Varlen's fiancee didn't just move to the Mishap HQ... well, there was probably a story there and he probably didn't want to tell it and she really didn't want to hear it. "I'd like the move back to my original home sometime as well, although I'd probably never get Lassa out of the koi ponds. It is for the best that we're here, though. My home is rural, she'd never meet children, Mishap or otherwise. And this building is surprisingly well-protected." Both from the Mishaps and for them. Why the building had such protects was a story she'd like to hear sometime, although she wasn't sure who she'd ask to tell it.

"Ooooh," Bergerac nodded in understanding. "That's smart of him, isn't it?" Bergerac gave a childish giggle, fiddling with her long skirt. "'s good to be smart like that.

"Pets?" She paused, thinking. "Mmm, daddy has a snake. A big one. He's not very nice, though. Not like your doggie. My mum has some cats, though... and a fox. Well, she's not my mum yet," she added thoughtfully. "Daddy has to marry her first. It's gonna be a pretty wedding." She gave a firm nod. "An' you can come too if you want. Mum won't mind. She's lots friendlier than Daddy is. Then you can meet my brothers too!"

"That is true..." Varlen agreed with a slow nod. "It is protected well. At least the children will grow up... happy." A pause, then he continued. "Yet at the same time I wonder- what of the outside world? These children will all grow up knowing little or nothing of the outside, and what would happen when they choose that they wish to move beyond these walls? They can't be protected forever..."

Lassa blinked. A mommy too? Coooool. Bergerac was gonna have TWO parents!
"You're gonna have a mommy an' a daddy? That's so cool! Everybody I know only has one mommy or daddy." Lassa being Lassa, she didn't even think to question why. "What's a wedding? Is it fun?" Not that she didn't want to go, she definately did. Whatever it was.

Gullien shrugged. "Protected is far different from sheltered. I was socialized in a "protected" enviroment and I was hardly sheltered. Some the kids here have tvs, all of them have books. I took Lassa to Barton to buy shoes when she grew. I'd rather trade the protections here and have Lassa actually grow up, even if she doesn't know how to mow a lawn or drive a car. These kids can learn to deal
with each other, they can learn to deal with the outside world. It's not that hard."
Well... it was that hard. But it was do-able.

Bergerac nodded in agreement. She had never been to a wedding or seen one, but she had heard about them, and they sounded amazing. "A wedding is... um... well, I think it's something two people who love each other very, very much do. And you gotta only do it with the one person you love most, because you're joining together a family with them. I think. It's something like that." Idly, the girl twirled a curly pigtail as she thought some more. "And there's singing and dancing and music and flowers and people and cake and food. It's a special party that's supposed to happen only once in your lifetime, so it's very special."

Giving the woman a disapproving frown, Varlen shook his head. "It's not just the kids. What will the people outside do? Yes, I know Gaia is a place far more accepting than most other places, but I still can't help but wonder..."

Lassa's eyes grew wider and wider at Bergerac's description. Music and singing and dancing and CAKE. And a special party that everyone got to have only once... "That sounds AWESOME!" She gaped at Bergerac, impressed beyond all statement.
"You're so lucky, getting to go! I bet it's going to be amazing. Do you think your future-mommy would really let me come?" Lassa paused for a moment, trying to imagine it. Somerwhere in a big field with flowers and a big cake with flowers on it too, probably and Bergerac would wear a really really pretty dress. With... blue maybe? Yeah! And maybe she could dance with Berg. She was an okay dancer. And... okay, she couldn't really see Varlen dancing or singing. Not at all. And when she tried to get a picture of Bergerac's mommy, all she could think of was Varlen in a dress... hmmm. "Hey, Berg?" She asked, not thinking at all about shortening the other girl's name. "What does your future-mommy look like?

Gullien frowned back. "What's your alternative? Raise the kid here with other people like them who accept them and have them know their worth when they leave here, or raise them out there so they can be resigned to being an outsider at the age of 12. At least as adults they can fight back. A kid could only take it." Words could hurt adults, but they could break a child past all repair.

Bergerac grinned. "Of course you can come. She likes almost everyone, so I'm sure she'll like you!" Bergerac beamed at Lassa. She was cool, and Berg knew that Lassa could come! Anvi was cool like that. She said everybody's friends could come, and as far as Berg thought, Lassa was indeed a friend.

At the question, Bergerac was only too happy to describe Anvion. "Well, she's about as tall as your mom... maybe a little shorter. And her hair is blue, just like your hands and tail. Then she has pointy ears and glasses, and is always smiling! She's very nice."

"Don't be ridiculous," Varlen snapped, his patience obviously wearing thin. "If the child is smart, they'd know better than to resign themselves to their fate. Only an idiot would do that sort of thing."

After leaving the crowed Animal tent, Chii and Nomi made there way into the fortuntelling tent. Nomi being so excited about getting his fortune told he burst into the tent. "Mommy!! This one!" he shouted as he came in and looked around for the fortuneteller, only to find a few others.

Chii came in only moments after her son, "Nomi, you shouldn't run off like that." She said as she opened the flap and walked in. Noticing the others inside she smiled. "Hello, I'm sorry we just came in here. We will leave if you like."
