I definitely feel very connected to cats, but then again, I feel like that is a woman-thing. Many women feel incredibly close to cats. I also love bunnies and squirrels and fish and deer and dolphins and mice and spiders and snakes and racoons, ect, ect, ect.

I just love all creatures, really. sweatdrop So I'm not sure that my magickal name with be animal-associated.

How do I find out my magickal name? I feel like I'm the only kid not allowed in the clubhouse xD
Well if you really want one, I say the first thing you should do is meditate over it. Ask the Goddess for help in choising one. Then for the next few days watch for any signs. eek

I agree with Fairy, if worse comes to worse and you have no clue still just make one up for the time being and when you find your real one it can be your 'secret' name. The lord and lady should be able to help you though ^^ they work wonders.

Ack! >.<

And that goes back to my inability to meditate. ;-;
Maybe you can scying, or write a spell asking for help choicing a name.

Good idea! 3nodding

Well I just dont feel like I have a closeness to cats. I actually feel that I am or was a cat in my last life. I keep thinking randomly about moving my tail and I miss it.

Oh and Melissa your not the only one bad at meditating. I am not that great either.

I dont really have a magical name unless you count Lunaki as one.

Mine's Phoenix Maenad.

I don't have a cool stroy behind my Magickal name, it just sorta formed in my head over time. The Phoenix part came to me pretty quickly and when I think about it it makes sense. I feel a very strong connection to fire but I have more qualities of air, so a fire bird makes perfect sense. Plus, my life as a Christian is over and I'm being reborn as a Wiccan in fire (Trust me, there's alot of fire, Dad's really angry about my desicion).

The second part took longer, I thought about Dreamwalker for a while ecause of my interest in lucid dreaming, but it seemed too cliche and just didn't fit right. I eventually came up with Maenad when I was reading my mythology encyclpedia and read the names followers of Dionysus were known by. Maenad just instantly sounded right. Dionysus has always been my favourite god (Even when I was a Catholic) and I later found out Maenad literally translates to "Raving One" which suits me down to the ground.

Any way, that's my name and why.

Errrr....don't mean to sound like a jerk, but aren't maenads the female followers of Dionysus who wear animal skins, suckle wild beasts, and rip men (Orpheus and Pentheus) apart limb from limb?

....I read Euripides' "The Bacchae" last year xp

Yeah, true. But at thier root they were free thinkers who didn't follow the example society wanted them to be (quiet house wives). And as for the ripping people apart it was usually punishment on those men from Dionysus or another trickster god.

One could argue that while Pentheus wronged Dionysus several times over and deserved to be ripped apart (even by his own mother), Orpheus's death by their hands was really kind of different. He kinda didn't do anything to Dionysus, the maenads just lost control. Bacchae/Maenads embody more than free thinkers, they embody chaos and irrationality. What they did was not break away from just Greek society, but they attempted to break away from all society and return to the wild. They went beyond free thinking into pretty much chaos. I mean, Voltaire was a free thinker but he didn't rip apart cattle....well, not that I know of at least.

I got my name, Masery, when my husband and a couple of friends were consulting the elements.

Magical names are special because when we are born we are given a name. A magical name can be chosen making it a powerful experience where we define ourselves instead of being defined by another. When we state our magical/spirit name in ritual space, we acknowledge that there are aspects to us that transcend physical reality. It is an acknowledgement of our soul.

This is why in some circles after a person is cleansed with either smoke, oil, or water, they are asked, "Who enters here?" The participant states their name and they are welcomed. It is a way to honor each person and challenge them to be their true self, casting aside any masks they may use to "fit" into society.

Yeah true, they're far from perfect, but then wolf is popular for a magickal name and they rip apart people too.

Chaos and Irrationality? That's so me.

Many of the Maenads only joined Dionysus's band for a few days or less, it was a return to the wild, yes, but after it they went back to being the quiet housewife or whatever they used to be. Although there were some who followed Dionysus for the rest of thier lives.

I'm not trying to diss you opinion. Everything you're saying is valid, but I'm trying to illustrate why I still like it as part of my magickal name.

Heh, your not dissing my opinion, no worries. I didn't mean to diss yours either. I was just trying to see if you really knew were your name comes from. There's a lot of people who just throw random names around because they "sound cool". The use of wolf is one of them. A lot of people don't like seeing the negative sides of things so they only think of wolves in the positive light and try not to remember that wolves can be quite vicious, even to their cubs. Good to know that you did some researching. smile

I believe in a goddess named Dwayna. She is the Goddess of Air and Protection. I thought this was a fitting first name because my birth element is Air. My favorite element, however, is Fire. Dragons are familiars of Fire. Thus the name DragonFire.
That's the story of Dwayna DragonFire.

Isn't Dwayna a Goddess from Guildwars? Goddess of Air and Healing/Life/Protection? I couldn't find any other Goddesses nameed Dwayna using Google. Or is she a sort of personal Goddess?

I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just curious.

Hmmmm.....I haven't found my magical name yet but I want to. Well, I've always felt connected to wolves somehow. And I sometimes think maybe I was a wolf in my past life. It would be interesting. What do you think? sweatdrop And what can I do to find my own magical name?

Being a wolf in a past life is possible and quite different from being human. LOL Okay that was an understatement. Let your inner wolf out but from my experience make sure you have lots of privacy or plenty of land. Some people get nervous around howling. Shamanic style shape shifting is a discussion for another thread though. smile
