Definately Jacqueline Carey with her Kushiel trilogy, George R. R. Martin and his 'A Song of Fire and Ice' Series and Tad Williams of the Otherland Series. They actually write about /character./ You just can't put those books down. And all but Jacqueline like to kill main characters.

I'm ashamed that none of you have mentioned Chuck Palahniuk! He's my idol and if you've never read any of his books, you're missing something.

TPauSilver when I grow up I want to be Douglas Adams because his best book is 'last chance to see' and I want to write a book like that book... Douglas Adams is awesome too.

There are several writers that I admire.
Tim Dorsey is an amazing satirist and his series that begins with Florida Roadkill is top-notch.
Terry Pratchett is also an amazing satirist and his Discworld novels make me envious.
Others whose writing I admire: George Orwell, Oscar Wilde, and Mark Twain. I appreciate satire greatly.

Vampire Aeaea I'm ashamed that none of you have mentioned Chuck Palahniuk! He's my idol and if you've never read any of his books, you're missing something. Chuck is great and all, but I don't see why you should be ashamed that no one else around here is as enthusiastic about him as you are. neutral Back on topic: Philip K. d**k is still my favorite.

My writing idols are
John Grisham (The Firm) - I enjoy his writing style, but sepecially in this book, the suspense was awesome.
Agatha Chrisite ( And then there were none ) - I really enjoy her mysteries, and hoe she can base horror in humans and not the supernatural so well.
Stephen King - (all works) - supernatural horror, great writing

Omg, I completely forgot to mention Tolkien. How much of an idiot am I????
*dies*
Wait... Tolkien? Tolkein? Man, he has a weird name. Too bad my friends borrowed my copy of LOTR, otherwise I'd look it up.
