Nita's blue eyes widened when the dull film peeled away, revealing a rather beautiful animal underneath. A beautiful animal, and one that hardly looked like the Cassidy she had known before.
"Well," Nita began softly. "Can you at least see now?" She shifted forward, not quite yet aware of how strange it was to be talking to a giant green snake with wings.

"Yeah... yeah, I can see. I knew I wasn't feeling well... I should have stayed back in my room..."
A little more work and the skin stripped off, leaving a long bit of tissue-like material on the sunny sand. Cass stared at it in a mixture of horror and amazement. She made an attempt to straighten up, but her body was unfamiliar now, and it didn't seem to behave the way she expected it to. She only succeeded in raising herself high enough to flick her wings clear of sand and fold them against her body. Cass strained to look at herself, and did not like what she found.
"... oh my god."

Nita wouldn't have been feeling very well either, if her body had been preparing to do that. At least, for Cassidy, the changes were over. She wouldn't ever have to wake up with an injection mark, fearing the worst. The worst had already happened.
"Yeah..." Nita shook her head from side to side. She had absolutely no clue what she could say now.

Cassidy turned, trying to look at herself. "I'm not even... I'm just a big snake. I'm just a..." Okay. Try not to panic. Couldn't panic. Must not fear, fear is the mind-killer... She took a deep breath, or as deep as she could manage.
She coiled herself up into a heap, and managed to lift her head, her neck, a bit of body, in something that to the part of her desperate to still be human was as close to a real sit as she could manage. Cass looked at Nita in dismay, unable to speak.

"With wings," Nita added before she could stop herself. Her hands flew up to cover her mouth and she muttered apologies between her fingers.
She sat looking back at Cass, both relieved and horrified that the changes had stopped. At least it looked like Cass could sit up somewhat...
"I guess now you really look like Quetzalcoatl," Nita said quietly, the barest hint of amusement in her voice.

Cass would have smiled, but her mouth did not seem suited to that. She extended a wind, curled her head around to look at it critically. "I am a goddess," she said, rather dazed, and shook her head. That didn't sound right to her. She folded the wing against her side again. "It wasn't supposed to... I didn't expect... how am I going to get back inside my duplex?" The tip of her tail curled agitatedly in the sand.

Nita did smile a little, glad that her half-joke hadn't completely fallen flat. "You are beautiful, though," she offered. "The colors, I mean." She pushed her hair out of her face and smiled a bit more broadly, albeit shyly.
"Oh... I can let you in this time, at least. And then.. see if you can a different kind of door-knob?" She considered for a moment. "Maybe an automatic door, like in grocery stores or something."

If she could have blushed, she would have. "Thank you," Cassidy said, with a bashful bob of her head.
She watched Nita with one eye. "And I would really appreciate the help. I guess in the meantime I can at least prop the door open and hope it doesn't shut on me."
This was worse than losing her legs. She could deal with that. But her hands?
Another deep, imperceptible breath. She uncoiled herself again, and tried to slither forward as she had before, with her head high. She could do it, she discovered, but it was hard, and she would need practice; she was built to slither along with her chin on the ground.
"This is going to be... um."

"It's really no trouble. And maybe we can find a big rock or a brick to put in the doorway."
Nita stood and brushed the sand from her tail and pants. Even those small movements brought home the enormity of Cass' metamorphosis-- she didn't even have hands anymore.
"It's okay," she said again. "You just.. take all the time you need."

Cass nodded vaguely, and leaving her skin on the beach for a lack of a way to carry it or any particular desire for the thing, she began to slither over the sand. She was more than a little amazed at the ease at which is came, compared to her comparitively awkward motions before. So much muscle, all devoted to movement...
"Well. Let's go, then. I'd really like to find a mirror..." She sighed a bit, and headed off, with a quick glance back to make sure Nita would follow.
