anyways to you destine....Not exactly kind of... if that makes sense. one one note, the Crest of El is not even in Crusade. At least not that i remember. If they did that it was only so that people could tell the difference between Clark and Kal even though it was quite obvious. The reason to believe why Kal took Clark's body over in Crusade after Clark had been in the caves would be because Clark was intimidated by Kal who at the time had the ability to over power Clark with the help of Jor-el of course. But in a sense Martha gave Clark a certain "Loving Strength" (The only thing strong then a Fathers Order is Mother's Love) that helped him Regain his concious self. I think basically it is foreshadowing that we can only fight the side we don't want to become for so long before it starts to overpower us.
