prince_ravens_blood som of the stuff in sc-fi can be done like the transporters can be doen i think some one is working on it also cloking devices are all redy in uese but they are not as advance as the one in flims Transporters have been done, but the problem is the test rats never end up alive on the other side... I think it would be so amazing if we were able to develop long rang teleporters, it would totally destroy the airline business, but even so, I'd rather pay more to go across the ocean in a few minutes than 8 hours by plane.

Scientists are working on transporters, but only at the subatomic and atomic level. We do not have technology, nor is it likely that we will have anything that can transport an entire organism. In fact, the disassembling process and reassembling process basically would destroy the orignial organism and then create a new organism that would be identical to the orignial, but not the original. Essentially, everytime one would go in a transporter, you would die and an identical you would take its place. This is assuming that we had the computer/memory/speed capacity that could keep track of and transfer information about an orgnaism that is made of trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions and trillions (I could go on) of subatomic particles. Sorry. On the bright side, scientists are working on cloaking devices. Go to the Popular Science website. They have articles of the latest current research and speculation on near future technology.

I think Sci-Fi is really interesting. I think some of the things (like hover cars or cyborgs) are possible. It's like inspiring curiosity through a different world. Then, the curiosity will be put to use to create something new! ^_^
It's weird for me to say this but... TECHNOLOGY IS AMAZING!

Science fiction is the future we imagine to come based on the past of historical literature we have adapted for the consciousness of the present that has come to be termed "pop" culture.
Sure, I have a few years under my belt to see that a lot of classic literature has led to the present day that I experience today. And believe me, popular culture science fiction today is leaning the interest of researchers towards the discoveries of tomorrow.
Take "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" for an example. We name much of our spacecraft (USA) after the ships of "Star Trek". Our desperate climate to travel between stars and galaxies has been influenced by both sci-fi genres. But that is only an obvious relation.
When I was growing up, a book titled "I Robot", written by the great Asimov himself, established the 3 rules that we apply to our modern technology. It was something of an ominous book that had declared in no uncertian terms that the future coming, even from their position then, was coming. We had to decide what was going to come of our efforts if we achieved too well.
I found that while looking into today's variations of science fiction, we still hold to certain themes. The flying vehicle thing has been around forever. Even when I was younger I had dreams of piloting a small craft (which unfortunately crashed in my dreams.. confused ). The idea of manning other planets and asteroids (which is currently being prepared for now..), has been top and center for anything involving the discovery of life. There has also been the artificial intelligence becoming a boon/dismay of the peoples that created it (and even that too is coming to fruition).
I think we use science fiction to predict the outcome of our current technologies. It can set the standard for governments of the future and the technology that we will apply in our daily lives..
After all.. the scientists and researchers of tomorrow are also reading the science fiction of today and yesterday. What do you think is going to inspire their work?

well, something what was a science fiction before, now is a reality... it could easily happen that Matrix become reality (I hope it won't). The reason I like sci-fi that much is because it helps me to be a better person. The most of good sci-fi stories and novels have some message or warning what could happen if we continue doing this way, so after some thinking about it, I start changing myself to the better... And on sci-fi writer said: ''The point of Sci-fi is exploring the limit where human stays or stops being human'' and I agree with him... 3nodding

I think that sci fi really pushes science to the limits its like hey we thought of it so you need to make it a reality

it could become reality. though if it does and there are aliens if we lose our electricity then we are pretty much screwed right. like today if a nation wanted to do a fast attack on some other place the could do it like SWAT using an EMP bomb as a flashbang i mean really. but yes quite possible.

Sci-Fi is what we can accoplish to a certian extent in the near or far future. No one knows for certian if and when different technological advances will happen. For example, Einstein figured out 75% of the equation for time travel but wasn't able to figure out the rest before he died. Thats been at least 50 years for someone else to finish it, but no one has. Sci-Fi is a big basic and wonderful what if? genre. Like good fantasy, it takes the personalities and political problems of our days, puts them into a new setting and shows us ourselves in a new light. As well as giving some good ideas for problem solving for the everyday.
