Well our guard is kinda a self run guard but yeah we usally don't have the band directors with us but we had one this year and well he doesn't know anything so we went under his supervision and we had our own practices so when ever you can have student run practices!

shuki582 Oh my God!!!! My school is basically going to have no marching band next year!!!! Because our school is so poor, we now have to cut our directors down to 1 (right now we have 2). So the upperclassmen bands will have o go during different hours. Which means no more marching band class!!! The only time we're going to be able to practice is on Tuesday nights!!! What do you think? I think I'm gonna go in the corner and cry now crying crying I would cry with you..but you have an upperclassmen band???? My school is so small and poor (lets see... 66% on time graduation rate say anything?) that we only have one band, and marching band IS band for first tri, and we have aftershcool practice twice a week. So, why not suggest that the school combine bands? We also have only one director for band and orchestra. (Although during marching season we hire a colorgaurd instructor and percussion instructor)

Is that even legal? Eh... that would piss me off. I don't think my band's gotta worry about that though unless our school suddently lost like hundreds of thousands of dollars. Heh... yeah, Reagan High School's kind of considered 'the rich school/band' here in Texas. I seriously have no idea where they get all the money. It's crazy. O.o Well mabey your school should hold a fundraiser or something. I dunno. But good luck. <3

Actually, we are still having marching band next year ( I'm in the same band as the person who posted this thread ) But they are just changing everything around and we don't have marching band during school and we have to learn our charts on tuesday practices.. it kinda sucks because I liked marchind during school.. espically on Football game days because we would be obnixious and play the fight song REALLY loud outside the school. *shrug* As long as we still get to march through the halls during the pep assembly.

DevilsDarkAngel You mean that there ish no director so you can practice?? Or do you mean like and actually class like is it your last period? Well our guard is kinda a self run guard but yeah we usally don't have the band directors with us but we had one this year and well he doesn't know anything so we went under his supervision and we had our own practices so when ever you can have student run practices! Here's a bit of an explanation to clear things up a little. At my school we have 5 bands: Freshman Concert band (1st hour), Jazz band (2nd hour), Symphony band (6th hour), Wind Ensemble (6th hour), and Marching band (6th hour). Marching band is only during the football season (the freshman at my school have to take one gym credit so when the season's over, they just go to gym during 6th hour). When marching band's over, the two upperclassman bands split up and do their own stuff (auditions are held the previous school year).
Next year, since the upperclassman bands will be during different hours, we can't do marching band rehersals during school. Even now we have Tuesday night practices, but next year that's ALL we're going to have. So we're gonna have like 2 shows the whole year evil . Does this make more sense? sweatdrop

How do you people afford two band directors??? All we have are our Band director, guard instructor, pit instructor, perc. instructor, and marching tech..... that does seem like an awful lot, but the techs usually don't usually come until afterschool practices. And then our band fees are what pay them.
