I know what you mean about the rules seeming stricter these days... alot of those fall under the school's "Zero tolerance" policies mysteriously instituted at some point between then (my day) and now. It is more or less the same thing that snowballed into my youngest being home schooled for the past three years. To sum it up, he was door moniter in the second grade and thought it would be funny to trip one of his friends as they came through the door. End result the school eventually suspended him and threatened to expel him if I did not "Do something" and drugs had already been discussed, so when his pediatrician sided with me that he was NOT hyper, just bright and active, he was pulled from public school and the rest was history. Shoot, when I was in school teachers had those kinds of antics and more on a daily basis burning_eyes Bubba has been asking to go back to school (he has a bigger circle of friends now) and they will start in about two weeks. It will be the first time since my early retirement where he will be getting educated without my full time help, so when that time comes I will have fun selling everything except the kitchen sink on eBay I suppose... rofl

SunnShinne Angel had her first day of school today too! She did great! We took her in at 7:30 this morning so she could have breakfast... then we walked her to her classroom. When we went to pick her up and the first thing she told us was that she didn't go to the office. xd I've still got one left though... and she's still got another 2-3 years. She may not start school until she's 6 though because of the way her birthday falls. Well... she'll most likely turn 6 a couple months after she starts. So I'm stuck with Spongebob, Diego, Dora, Jimmy, and Cosmo and Wanda and goodness knows who else... for a little while longer. But that's ok though... because that's most likely what I'd be watching if they weren't here rofl Is Angel kindergarten as well? That's cool they started on the same day! There are a few different schools my nieces in Albuquerque are starting at, and every school had a different starting day. rolleyes And LOL @ watching cartoons anyway!

Yes... Angel is kindergarten 3nodding It's cool though... she's taking to it very well. She's already walking right in her classroom without "needing" to give us a hug or kiss. But we be sure to get one anyway xd I got my first Student Handbook today. ALOT of papers to sign and permission slips to sign and whatnot. eek Ehh... but I'm enjoying every minute of it xd
I think the kindergarteners started before the highschool... which is weird... I thought they all started the same day (in the same town anyway)... I guess not. I did find out that she won't be getting out of school unil June 1st... so apparently they go longer than the highschool too... cause I KNOW the highschool gets out in May because the graduation is ALL that anyone talks about whee School pride is a big thing here in our little town... we don't have much else but we do have THE best school in East Texas. Our district is rated #168 out of 40,000 some odd schools in the United States. It's called exemplary... whatever that means redface
They do have a thing that I can sign up for to be able to view her grades from the ISD site. I think I'm gonna do that.... it sounds fun. whee

Oi yeah I went through all the permission slips and forms and rules and whatnot to sign today too. Tons of it! rolleyes And I know for SOME schools, kindergarten started later than the other grades, but for others they started the same day, but every school seemed to have a different day picked; some on a Tuesday, some Wednesday, some Thursday, some Friday! I remember when we always started on a Monday, but then as I got older they started started us on Thursdays so we'd have a short week to get used to stuff again, followed by a weekend.
Jade's second day went pretty well, and she says she had fun, and she showed me all the little jumps and skips and things they did in P.E. She says she cried on the playground during lunch though because she wanted her teachers and they were inside eating.

Toni's orientation is tomorrow morning. Shes looking forward to seeing her friends after so long 3nodding Went school shopping this morning and was very discouraged jeans-wise. Every pair either fit around the waist or length wise, never both. So we got 2 pairs, which she complained about because they are too long, and the rest capri's and skorts rolleyes When are these clothing maunfacturers going to realize that there are smaller children that need to be taken into consideration sweatdrop We ended up embarassing some lady.....she asked if Toni was 6. I hear it all the time, and as frustrated as I was, I got a tad snippy and told her she was 8. Maybe I shouldnt have been so amused about seeing her blush, but I was sweatdrop

Ugh! Shopping for adult jeans seems just as difficult these days!!! gonk I don't know what the fashion/jeans people are up to, but I dread shopping for new jeans because they're always either way too long and dragging on the floor, or the waists are way too low and if I squat down, my butt crack will show. rolleyes I've finally just resorted to folding the bottom cuffs up about 4 inches and sticking to Target for my jean-shopping because no matter how many places I try, Target always seems to have the best fits.
And it's always perplexed me that they only have ONE kids size for ever year of age! I mean, you take a class full of 8 year olds, and they're of all shapes and sized! I mean, they should AT LEAST divide each size up into different lengths and/or different widths, like an 8 small, or an 8 petite, or something versus an 8 medium or 8 wide... I've brought this up to Jason before. Maybe we should all rampage over and take control of the fashion industry! 3nodding

Aparently showing your bum is the in thing, and so is the cuffs of your jeans dragging on the floor. And Im sorry but some of these fashions? There is no way I would let me 8 year old walk out of the house dressed like shes 16. She's 8 for goodness sake, let her be a child and DRESS like a child!!

I feel the same way about the dressing thing. Angel is ONLY 5 and dadgummit... she's gonna dress like it! Even when she's 16 she's gonna dress like a lady *stomps foot down* They do have a reasonable dress code in her school though... it's something I totally support. The girls can wear shorts and skirts but at a reasonable length and no "halter" tops or shirts with spaghetti straps (although they can have straps). For everyone, no slouchy, sloppy or outrageously baggy jeans or t-shirts. No holes or torn up clothes. No earrings for boys and no other "piercings" for either. Girls have to keep their hair tidy... pretty much just not so messy and in their eyes that they can't see... they don't necessarily have to have it pulled back. The boys on the other hand have stricter rules with their hair... they HAVE to have it cut above the neckline... pretty much the way a young man is supposed to wear his hair. Like I said... I like the dress code at our school 3nodding
Now going shopping for Angel's jeans... that's a whole nother story. Her little butt is too small to hold up very many jeans... she's a little skinny minnie. She wears a size 4 petite... from the "big" little girl's department. She can still wear 4t from the "toddler's" department... but they don't fit her in the length and she can wear 5t from there but they don't fit her in the waist. And it is HARD to find 4 petite!! I've only found about 4 pairs of that size since she's started wearing them. So we've been going with size 4 regular (when we can't find the other) and they're good in the length but too big on her waist. And I don't see her getting out of that size for a while. sweatdrop I see this as going to be an ongoing battle for her... she'll have to deal with this trouble for the rest of her life neutral

SunnShinne The boys on the other hand have stricter rules with their hair... they HAVE to have it cut above the neckline... pretty much the way a young man is supposed to wear his hair. Jason has something to say about that!! His hair is waist-length, so of course he supports males being able to have long hair if they want! And the schools here must not have the same rule because I know of a boy who has worn his hair very long ever since he was old enough to request it. I asked our school specifically about dress code because I know Jade's cousins aren't allowed halter tops of spaghetti straps either, but her teacher said there wasn't any except for Tennis Shoes for P.E. day, or maybe that's just for the kindergarteners.. Surely when the girls get older there will be some restrictions.. Quote: Now going shopping for Angel's jeans... that's a whole nother story. And Jason's youngest sister Alexandrya (11) has always been really small and she has to buy smaller sized bottoms than the tops so they don't fall off. If she buys matching sets, the tops are either too short or the bottoms are too big.

Ohh don't get me wrong, FawN... I think long hair on a man is kinda smexy anyway. xd I have a pic of hubby when his hair was long... and Ohhhh Myyyy heart He had to cut it... and kept it cut since... when he went into the Navy. But his hair was soooo beautiful. His dad told me about it and he said he even thought it was pretty... beautiful spiral curls. I've tried to talk him into growing it long again... but he doesn't really want to... he's been so used to it short for so long now. sad But... on the other hand... I don't think I would want my son (if I ever have one) to have long hair... I guess that's the mommy in me that feels that way. But if he wanted to have it long AFTER he was out of school then I think I could let him make that decision.
Angel still has some 24mo size shorts that she can still wear. We have the same problem with getting sets... the shirt will be too big and bottoms be too small and vice virsa. So what we usually end up doing is buying it to where the shirt fits her and pulling out the sewing maching and stitching up the bottoms... or buying them separate in different sizes. That's the only thing I can think of to deal with that. But there are alot of things that look too cute on her that ONLY come in sets. Soo I guess it's just something we have to deal with... but the good thing is that it's not really troublesome... it's just another thing whee

Toni started school today, now its nice and peaceful xD But there was a mix up with her bus stop. The card I got told me that it would be at the corner of Hansen Ave and Rennisance Drive....which is across the street from my building. And its a very busy intersection. I wasnt happy about having to walk her across traffic, but there isnt anything I can do about it. So we're waiting on her bus, we see it coming and its lights start flashing.......at her old bus stop!!!! Man was I jacked!!!! I had to take her across yet another busy street, and practically run to get her there because he was holding up traffic. Only to ask and be told that he was told to get her at this place and I was told something different. I felt like a moron, but its not my fault the bus company screwed up. I would call and complain but what good would it do me scream

I would call and complain but what good would it do me scream Let us know how she likes her first day of school! What grade is she now? What a pain with the bus stop! I'm having enough anxiety over Jade's bus stop because the afternoon bus driver KEEPS wanting to lecture me on road-crossing safety rules EVERY DAY! Because one day last week Jade insisted she wanted to try walking home by herself (and of course I stood at the stairtop and watched and made sure she was ok, and quickly ran out of sight so she'd think she really did walk home while I was inside waiting..) and the bus driver didn't like that she went behind the bus and ran across the street. But going in front of the bus isn't much better because there's no sidewalk on the other side of the street, so she'd have to walk up the street anyway! We decided walking up the sidewalk until we're across from our mailboxes and then crossing together is ok, but he says he'll have to ask his superiors about that if she ever decides to walk alone again. Are there other kids at Toni's bus stop? Did they get the right information, or is she the only one?

She's in second this year, at a new school. She's in learning support classes and they arent offered at her home school so she has to go to a different schol. But its worth it, because she had improved by leaps nad bounds since she started learning support.
There are other kids at her stop but they go to a different school, wich is Toni's home school. It doesnt change, every year the bus stop is in the same place. I suppose I should have known they made a mistake on the card but I thought you know different school, different stop.
Oh well, Im sure Im not the first parent to mix up a bus stop, I just feel really dumb now sweatdrop And its not like the wait was too long for trafffic....the other bus picks up about 10 kids so the wait time is about the same. Its just parents were there today and they were staring at me, and I was really embarassed redface But i think they could tell by my expression that I was not pleased 3nodding
