James Tanner AshWufei Well it seems the plans have changed. . . rather than me trying to start a metal band like i had originally planned, me and another couple buddies are going to form a Ska-punk band with me on guitars and them on horns, with the same bassist. . . so im going to need to have a pretty good clean channel as well. . . I think i might get a Carvin. . . You could look at the Fender amps. Everyone knows how cool the Fender clean sound is, especially with some spring reverb. cool The only issue is the fact that, IMO, the FM series SUCKS, and those are the only ones in the price range that I'm stuck with. I can spend just about the same and get a better quality, 100w 2 channel SS amp from Carvin.

They contain a valve-modeling circuit, with a 12ax7 tube in the PREamp section. I emphasize preamp because "tube tone" and "feel" comes from the tubes in the POWER amp section being driven, not preamp. Just my random bits of information.

I was thinking about the other Fender models, but I forgot that they weren't in your price range. sweatdrop

I actually did think about the Marshall AVT. I thought of all the amps with actual tubes in the preamp (Randall G series, Vox Valvtronics, Marshall AVT, etc), but despite being mcuh cheaper than actual tube amps, they are still out of my price range considering I'm looking for about a 100w (SS) amp, for around 300-350 clams.

I'm sure the AVt aint that expensive it's about £200-300 in the UK and you even have VAT on that price aswell.

For the 50watter, yeah its not too bad, but I realyl don't feel like pushing it with only 50watts. Since it doesnt have the tubes in the power section, I would imagine the volume to power ratio is around the same as a full SS amps, which means that 50w really won't cut it. I need at least 100 to bring it up to par. I might could work with a lower wattage, but i dont like the idea of maxing the volume on the amp at all.

take a look into the peavey 5150 and 6505 heads, if you are willing to spend a bit over a grand.

Another good amp to look into is Randall... they've usually handed out some pretty decent stuff as of late. In fact their RG50TC amp has some really good sounds in it and I can attest for it's ability to be heard over a drummer. I used it to practice for a gig a few times, and it certainly had the balls to keep up, no matter what I did to it. The high gain's pretty decent, but where it really shines is the footswitch that allows you to toss extra gain on a clean channel freely. The footswich also lets you choose between two different gain settings on the High-gain channel. It's worth checking out, but you really have to turn it up to get the goods out of it.
