The Japanese written character for nin of ninjutsu or ninja means "perseverance", "endurance", or "putting up with", and can sometimes mean "concealed", or "hidden". Ninjutsu is properly pronounced neen j'ts (barely audible breathy u; not "nihn joot soo"), spoken as a 2-syllable word with no accent on either syllable.

If I remeber right the Kanji for blade and heart is what makes up Ninja but the meaning is whats writen above. Shinobi was a more common word for the ninja and I can't remember what it fully means my books say but I don't have them here at the moment.

Noting it was all just martial arts guys a Boxer a Wushu guy, Tae Kwon Do, Karaty a world chapion Muay Thai dude a guy who trains some form of Ninjutsu. Dan Inosanto was on there that was one good thing they did must do longer shows they need a tv show that just dose martial arts stuff full time.

Ya they showed chain whip and a few other things but never did during the show. I was not impressed with the Wu Shu guy's punch I train in Wing Chun and have been knocked back by some guys in my class with a single punch I weigh 230lbs and I was standing in a good horse stance that guy didn't even try. He should have been able to hit just as hard as the others that Boxer was just what I expected they train on bags more than most of the other guys I bet not to mention the guy is big.

One other problem with that Wu Shu guy he hit that ballistic gel with the sword about as hard as my 7 year old nephew. That sword if made right should be able to cut a mans arm off.

The WuShu guy wasn't very impressive. Don't you remember when the TaeKwonDo guy cut the ballistics gel though? He did cut an arm off. biggrin

Well I am talking about the Chinese Dao those swords are able to cut farly good. I get magazines from Cold Steel they always send a DVD showing there blade tests and things that shows some of the best examples of how bad some of these things would damage a person. That guy barly tryed he should have gave it a nice good hit he had little power in that cut. I have a Katana at home and even with that if I hit like he did it would turn out the same. I cut through a 5" wide half inch thick cardboard shiping tube with a single cut with that sword but it takes more power than he used with that sword. I dout a Dao would do this without a good two handed cut but I expected more from that I know it should be able to cut that gell just about as good I have seen people cut strait through big pices of meat that gell should be about the same.

The one problem I have with this is Kung Fu is not a style.

Well Kung Fu is like a sum up of certain martial art styles from northern or southern china.

I take Northern Kung/Lei Tai Kickboxing
It just a lot easier then saying
I take Tien Shan Pai, Northern
Shaolin, Praying Mantis,
Monkey Fist, Ground Fighting
and Drunken Lohan. And Khoshu Lei Tai

And for who don't know Northern Kung Fu is more kicks while Southern is punches.

people these days should just refer chinese martial arts as "wushu".....kung fu is sort of a bad translation for martial arts xp

The problem I have is that Chinese martial arts are not as well known every one seems to do Karate or Tae Kwon Do theye see old Kung Fu movies or some crapy fight and say it sucks. They don't say Choy Lay Fut sucks or Hung Gar or Tai Chi or whatever they just say Kung Fu and act like all Chinese styles are s**t. Most of these people don't know crap any way I know of bad teachers or schools but I have never seen a style I would call useless.

The problem I have with all these "educational" specials on martial arts is that they seem to over-glorify many arts that, in my opinion, are flat out weak.

When Discovery had that XMA s**t, they spoke of those karate point sparrers as if they were gods. They didn't even attempt to cover more fuller contact arts like kyokushinkai, muay thai, savate, boxing....or even a decent grappling system.

What pisses me off about this show is that they act like the asian martial arts are the best in the world.

For the Bo, they forget about European Quarter Staff.
For the Kali, they forget about the Irish Bata.
For the Katana, they forget about the countless superior European swords.
For the Archery, they forget about the English longbowman.
For the Ninja, they forget about the countless assassins that were used throughout history.

I'm sick of the "Asian = Best" stereotype in martial arts. I would love to see them do a segment on how effortlessly an epee can sink into human flesh, and how quickly it can punch a fatal wound through several vital organs in a lightning-fast lunge.
