"Don't come any closer. I promise you I'm dangerous!" Varian's thoughts were the truth, it seemed. The female didn't trust them, no matter how young the voices seemed to be. This darkness was full of tricks- she refused to fall for yet another one. Not after someone else had paid for her mistakes. In her arms, a body suddenly quivered and shifted. If it hadn't been for the occasional slow, rasping breath, she would have been sure he was dead.

"Please, don't move..." She was softly pleading, so perhaps her voice was no longer directed towards the so-called 'curious fae'.

There was a harsh sound in the pitch black, ragged like scrape of something thick against wash-board ribs. And then, after the bout of coughing, there was something distinguishable. Something so horribly familiar.

"Ritsu...ki?" It was a whisper, but in this sudden silence, it might as well have been stated just as loudly as Varian's little reprimand. "Is it...you?"

"Ferroc, no... Do you really know them?" The only response was another of those gruesome coughs, this time wet with something that had come up in the injured fae's throat, followed by short but desperate gulps of air.

Ritsuki only made it about half a step forward before she stopped walking again. In the dark, she had no idea where she was going. Not that not knowing had ever stopped her before.

Her warm eyes wandered through the darkness behind her, where she thought Varian was standing. "I would." A large grin accompanied her statement. Though extremely unexpected, she was blatantly honest and true in what she was saying. Again, her gaze focused on the black area ahead of them.

Who was that? The first voice wasn't familiar to her at all. Instead, it was a completely new. "We just want to know what's going on. I promise, none of us are here for anything that wo-" She had been nodding before the short, barely audible whisper made it to her ears. It was only then that she realized Ferroc was, indeed there. And from the sound of it, he wasn't doing well at all. "Ferroc!" She couldn't resist taking a few steps closer. At this point, she was almost overflowing with concern. He was probably all right...

That's what she continued telling herself, anyway.

Varian snorted at Ritsuki's response, twisting his lips into a scornful expression. Not that she could see it, anyway...so he'd have to express his scorn for her gullibility in words, then.

But before he could speak, he heard that whisper. And stopped short as he heard that cough, feeling a bit unnerved. That was not a good sound for someone to be making. He was injured.

And...that meant there was something dangerous here.

Silently, he reasured himself that he of course, was safe. But he stayed silent, anyway...just in case. And he wasn't quite sure what was going on, so it was best to just...well, observe would be his usual thing. But it was a little difficult to observe in the dark.

"Don't come closer, child. This is not something you should see." Spoke the female's voice over the ragged breathing. "I am Ae, one of the tutors here. And with that authority, I am telling you now, if you are indeed children, that you must leave. We can't have you getting hurt..."

When Ritsuki took the few steps forward, something firm touched her ankle- fingers weakly brushing over the skin. "No. You must go on...both of you." Ragged as it was, it was indeed Ferroc's voice. "Death, Ritsuki. It was.... Death that came to... us. Ae..."

"They're too young!"

"They are... fae." Another small bout of coughing, and the fingers clenched themselves with restraint around the teen's ankle. "Strong, especially... in numbers. Press on... it will not feed on... courage so quickly. Help Xang."

A small sob interrupted them- a noise that Ae had apparently been trying to keep contained. There was a comforting 'shhh' from the male held in her arms, though nothing could be seen. The fingers loosed themselves and fell away. "Keep walking... you will find something... to lead your way." And in this, he almost sounded proud, though the situation was most grim.

Ritsuki swallowed the words that she had intended to use to plead with the unfamiliar tutor. In most situations, a hand coming out of the darkness and touching her ankle would have made her at least jump, but this time, she knew that Ferroc was there. And that he was probably in a lot of pain. Confused by the short argument between the pair of tutors, the bright-haired fae finally found the strength to speak again. "Death?" She whispered. Did they mean something like the reaper? Proverbial death?

She searched every part of her mind for the answer to her questions. There was something there, something that knew exactly what Ferroc was talking about, but... She just couldn't reach it. She was supposed to remember the good things, so why was it that all she could remember was what came to her slowly and the things in her dreams? She had no way to call upon information from her past life when she needed it, and no way to figure out how to stop 'Death', whatever or whoever it was. Biting her lip, she decided to listen to Ferroc. He had never purposely steered her wrong before.

"I'm going ahead. But I promise times infinity that I'll be back for you. No matter what." She decided, reaching out to touch the fingers, but touching nothing because of the shadow of darkness. He's going to be okay. She said to herself firmly, believing as much as she could in the words. Her partially-invisible form moved forward, not bothering to say goodbye to the two. They'd meet again really soon.

But once she'd taken a few steps, she realized that she still had two children younger than her in tow. She turned and spoke as brightly as possible, so not to scare them. "You can stay with them, if you want. It's probably going to get a little dangerous up ahead. Don't worry, I'll understand if you want to." She nodded before turning around and continuing on into the darkness.

Varian stared through the darkness, unnerved, before swiftly coming to a decision - he was not staying here! Between the choice of staying with two very injured fae, who wouldn't be able to protect themselves (much less, him) in the dark - or going with someone in perfect health, well...

The answer was obvious. To him, anyway.

"I'm going with you. I am not staying here."

Curtly spoken, and his tone made it clear he wasn't going to stay behind - if it got dangerous, at least he knew he was with someone who wasn't a sitting duck. And besides - he was very well versed in running. He didn't really want to run, but he could do it if needed.

To make sure he didn't lose Ritsuki, he reached out and snagged a piece of fabric - her shirt, her sleeve, he wasn't sure..but he wanted to make sure he didn't get seperated from here. Not in that dark.
