"I'll be fine mom, I promise. Look, I'm here already. I'll call you if I need anything, ok? Bye."
Mothers always worried, Tamara's was no exception. She put her cellphone back and pulled into the parking lot. Her car wasn't much, but it did the job.
After she checked where she was to stay, and after lugging all her gear to her cabin, she got out her guitar and started tuning it. She only brought the one bag with her, not including her amp, music folder or guitar.

Seeing nothing better to do, Jeff wandered around camp, bags in tow, searching for an office.

In due course, he found it. It was a nice enough place, with a unique "rustic" look.

"Ok, cabin listings, cabin listings... ah! Jeff Hoffman - Cabin #4. I wonder who I'm rooming with..."

Seeing nothing better to do, he went to said cabin, set up his things, made sure there was an electrical outlet for his iBic, and brought out his violin.

"Man, how does it get so flat?"

After tuning it by ear -"I can't believe the other people in the orchestra can't do this"- He began to play, a bit tentatively at first, to get a feel of the acoustics in the unfamiliar room. He slowly got into it, letting the music take him into his wildest fantasies...

((I'm going to take the initiative and choose my roommate; tell me if I can't do that. XD))

Hm. So this is my cabin, Kadence thought as she tossed her pack through the door, I wonder who my cabin-mate will be?

Her question was presently answered as she glanced around the door. A very pretty girl stood holding a flute, pursing her lips at what appeared to be a very difficult passage. Kadence paused for a second - she wasn't sure if she would get along with this classic beauty, but at the same time at least she seemed competent musically.

"Err, hello there. I'm Kadence, or if you prefer nicknames, Kady," she introduced herself with a smirk. "I'm glad I'm not the only obsessive one practising here." Wondering how this girl would react to the backhand insult, she pushed it a bit further: "...although, I'm not the type to dilly dally over complications."

Kadence had the uncanny knack of making horrible first impressions. All throughout school she found herself "testing" people for their worthiness as her friend, which ended up leaving her alone most of the time. It was a bittersweet existence. On the one hand, the solitude provided a needed respite from the taxing life of a student and musician, but on the other she felt herself constantly without companionship. Cynicism became a motif of life just as much as the smirk that so often played across her lips.

((I was actually wondering about roommates myself...))

Kira looked up, her black eyes glinting. "If that was an insult, then you weren't very subtle about it. Trust me." She smiled and put her flute away. "Acctually, I'm trying to prove to my parents that I can play this passage, so I've been practicing." Kadence seemed a lot like her friends, and she enjoyed the insults, it was just another way to laugh. She hid herf novel from veiw, hoping that no one would see the little black marks.

Kadence smiled, sincerely this time. "I'm glad you see things my way...Just making sure you weren't just looks," Kadence responded. She grabbed her pack and started to set up corner of the cabin.

"Now that we've gotten introductions out of the way...what do you think of this camp?" Kady actually did wonder if other people were as sceptical as she was. After all, it was pretty weird to be invited here without having heard anything before. "I'm excited, but at the same time, I'm just not sure what to expect. As it is, things are a lot different than I would have thought. I'm a little nervous, too; I have high expectations for myself."

It was rare that Kadence would find herself this honest to a near-stranger, but she trusted this girl. She didn't know why, exactly, but she got good vibes. Whatever it was, it was bound to be a useful relationship in the future, and she knew it.

Tired of practicing, Jeff went to go check out the camp. As he was walking along, he heard some beautiful flute music coming out of one of the cabins. *Wow, that sounds almost as beautiful as my mother, if not more so...*

Jeff's mother had been a music major in college, persevering and practicing almost endlessly to become the first chair floutist in the band. It was her work ethic that annoyed Jeff to no end, constantly making him practice and practice. Why didn't she understand that all he had to do was listen to the music a couple of times, and he would be able to play the music almost flawlessly?

Jeff walked up to the cabin door and knocked, wondering who could make that sound...

Kira agreed. "Ditto. A camp that just pops up out of nowhere. It's seems kind of odd doesn't it?" She gave a signal for a pause, then went toward the cabin door. Opening it, she saw Jeff. "Yes?" She smiled lightly, as if to say that she hoped not to seem rude. Her flute case was on her bed, sheilding a novel from veiw. I wonder why he's here. Did he hear the flute music? Her dark eyes flitted over him, almost looking into his soul. The feeling that she could trust people at the camp increased, and Jeff might become another friend in the camp.

Jeff was taken aback by the beauty of the girl that opened the door.
"Uhm, hi! I'm Jeff. Jeff Hoffman, and I'm a violinist. Were you playing the flute just now? I thought that it was wonderful... My mom plays the flute, you see, and here I was thinking that no one would be able to match her playing...

*Dammit! Here I am rambling again... Why am I telling my mom's life story to a complete stranger?*

"Anyways, what do you think of this camp so far? It seems kind of odd that there arent any counselors or adults here, hai?"

Another one of Jeff's idiosyncrasies was that, from time to time he would slip into Japanese, or some other language, however briefly.

Kadence raised her eyebrow at the boy. Hormones getting the better of him, obviously...he's got the hots for Kira, she thought scathingly.

She smiled over-sweetly to the boy: "Why, hello to you too. I'm glad the boys here are so much different than back home, where they only pay attention to the pretty ones." She could see from the start that she would not get along with this kid. Arrogant b*****d. Perhaps Kadence was just a bit too cynical. But it was beyond obvious that this boy had little experience or interaction with the female race, given his heart-spilling comments and, well..his eyes showed quite a bit more than she was sure he intended to reveal. Nontheless, Kadence was glad to know other people were as skeptical as she; it mattered not as to the testosterone of said peer.

Tamara looked around the cabin. Empty... come to think of it, were there any other names for this cabin?
She sighed. "Typical. First I have to drop everything just to come to this camp, and then they don't even give me someone to talk to."
She packed her guitar back in its back and placed it on the top bunk. Atleast she'd have plenty of room to herself.

[You can decide your own roomates, whether they be other roleplayers or npc's.]
Kai slowly treaded through the camp, heading for cabin four. He found it somewhat annoying that they would number the cabins instead of being creative and making up at least some name, no matter how pathetic...

But when the boy did reach the cabin, he opened the door. No one in there, but bags and a violin by one of the two beds on either side of the room. "I guess I'm the second here..."

He removed the large, rectangular bag off his back, and set by on the second bed along with his other bags. And then layed down under the covers...What? He was tired...

Kadence was glad to see more people coming. Bored and anxious, she decided to take a little walk and visit the other arrivals...maybe she'd find out who played what instrument, and all that. She was still skeptical. It felt like there was no order to this camp - no hyperactive peppy counsellors, no ridiculous ice-breakers. So unlike the other camps she was forced to, like the mandatory Freshman Camp her school does.

"Kira, I'm going to go out and see who else is here. Nice meeting you...and I'm sure we'll get plenty of opportunity to talk. But you're welcome to come with me, if you want...I'll just be around."

With that, she grabbed her purse and wandered back to the common area between the cabins. It was a nice afternoon - almost evening. She hadn't even noticed the way time had gone by what with unpacking, meeting people, and the short nap she caught during the day. The sun was lowering on the clouds, creating that lovely colour between blood red and tangerine orange, and she couldn't help but smile.

Even her less-than-pleasant encounter with...who was it? Josh or something...wasn't enough to dampen her newly elated mood. It was probably the treehugging inside, but Kadence always felt a particular affinity to the beauties of nature, whether it was the break of a wave or a sunset.

Absorbed in her own thoughts, she failed to notice exactly where she was headed...
