Regardless of the inaccuracies in the movie, I liked it. I can't put aside the fact that without that movie, I would never have delved deeper into the subject of Witchcraft, would never have found wicca, and hence would not be one today. So I say that sometimes the Hollywood movies are gateways to finding a better path. I thank the movie for what I have now.
I know it sounds a little cheesy, but it's true in a lot of ways.

I loved it. Its one of my favorite movies. But its still just a movie. I didnt expect much out of it pagan-wise to begin with, but I was pretty supprised at how close they were to actual witchcraft. i mean, yea, we cant float or make people see snakes, but its a movie. I dont think hollywood could sell a vid with a bunch of people dancing naked in a circle chanting their fluffy bunny mojo to the same effect.
But I have to admit, most of the stuff wasnt too far-fetched. I mean, teens getting involved in witchcraft and going dark with it isnt that uncommon. And im sure if the right kid(s) got together to do "dark" magick and one or all of them were powerful enough, there is no doubt in my mind that they could do some pretty freaky s**t. I hear and read stuff from wiccans all the time saying that magick is totally misinturpreted and that it is just manipulating energy to effect change and that you cant just "make stuff happen" but I think that is complete bullshit. You get the right people and the right spells and im sure almost anything is possible.

But anyway, back on the movie! Great movie for fantasy/thriller fans, bad movie for pagan activists...

I liked the movie, and it did have inaccurancies and it brought some people into witchcraft for the wrong reasons, but there ones who from watching the movie became interested, researched it, and learned about it.

I feel as though the Pagan community expected too much out of it. Of course it's going to be Hollywood-ized, that's what makes it interesting. Charmed, Bewitched, and Harry Potter didn't become popular for nothing. People wouldn't watch it if it had what Change_of_Heart_13 said. We should just be glad that it's getting somewhere(slowly), instead of people believing it's dark and satanic.

Of course there's going to be teenagers dwelling into it, but they're teenagers. At some point all of us were teenagers(some still are), but we all have done things for the wrong reasons.

I loved the movie. That and Hocus Pocus are my two favorite movies on witchcraft, though I love practical magic too, Saundra Bullock is hot =P

Anyways, its Hollywood's take on an interesting idea. As was said, I think with enough will and practice by a strong person, some of the things in that movie are possible, people can move things with their mind, project their light bodies into another plane of existence(astral project), talk to the dead, have conversations with dragons and faeries, light candles with their minds, (granted that one is harder, but possible) Cast spells to make things change in their life, see things that happened somewhere else (remote viewing) and there is so much more, why are people so against the idea that things that happen in these movies might actually be possible to do? To make the scene where her fingers turn to snakes and nasties are all around is probably possible should someone delve far enough into telepathy. If you can make your voice be heard in someones head, how is it not possible to make an image appear in someones head? Its like that but on a higher level.

Granted using it in that context is definitely against the Wiccan Rede, but my point is, more is possible that most realize, so I am not going to put down a decent movie because some chick goes insane with power and gets put in a mental institution. Though that might make us look bad to some less open minded Christians, but if they aren't open minded, we already look bad and a movie isn't going to change that. Nothing will, they will only see things that confirm their ignorant thoughts. Thats what ignorant people do best =P

I LOVE it. Can't stress that enough. Though they do exagerate some things. But, yes, I own it. I had one copy in storage and bought another one because I wanted it. lol. But, yes i love it.

I just watched it a couple of days ago and it wasn't bad. Most of it was exagerated but some things were acurate, like the wiccan initiation, except for the women initiating women part. (yay, my first post! blaugh )

You know what? Without this movie, I wouldn't be in this guild! The Craft is what inspired me to become a witch in the first place. I remember, 2003, back at my grandparent's timeshare down in Del Mar my cousin brought the movie to my room. She told me that it was scary. In the contrary, I loved it to pieces! Faruza was fantastic! And on that day, I told myself that I would become a witch.
