3. Those who believe the bible knows all and that because it says homosexuality is wrong, they believe it.

Not all people in this group are homophobes. I have a very good Southern Baptist friend who believes homosexuality is wrong, but it does not stop me from being good friends with me. While he believes that homosexual practice is a sin, he believes that, Biblically, it is no different to speaking falsehood and committing murder.

I've discussed the subject with him at length. At one time he believed Christians could not practice homosexuality. I've discussed homosexuality from his point of view so effectively that he know believes that homosexuals can be Christian, but that their views about their practices would be changed as their relationship with the Holy Spirit becomes stronger.

I'd like to reiterate, he is not a homophobe. A homophobe has an irrational fear and hatred of gays and bisexuals. A homophobe could not feel comfortable hanging out with someone who is openly bisexual. A homophobe would not consider me his spiritual brother despite my relations with men.

While being angry with homophobes is justified, considering our own experiences, we have to realize that we, the queers of the world, have been demonized by popular culture for the past century, before which the popular awareness of the possibility that people of the same gender could become involved in a relationship did not even exist. Most people we are quick to label "homophobic" are only ignorant of the fact that we are neither demons nor heretics.

Hating them makes them right.

Did you know a lot of the extreme homophobes are closted gays who were brainwashed to think it's wrong? I pity those people, they're so terrifyed to be themselves.

I'm going to rant a little, but there's a point to this.

Your post bares a little likeness to an XY Magazine article I ran across. That magazine solicits sexuality to a sickening extent with no observation of consequences. I picked up the "Survival Guide", the magazine they print, to find a slew of bullshit. Among these articles was one called "Super Straight Billy's top 10 phrases" or something along those lines. XY has this whole, "Everyone's gay and straight people just kid themselves" outlook on things. If everyone's not straight, they apparently believe that everyone can be persuaded into homosexual preferences..

Note from Vague: Overshine, I'm very sorry, the majority of your post was lost as I was editing something. It sucks what those assholes did to you, and if you want to retype it, one of the mods or I will fix this post.

Overshine,

It's horrible that that happened to you. My best friend is very pro-active in the community and she's had guys follow her to and from work for weeks screaming threats and slurs at her. Another friend of mine was threatened with a baseball bat on his way home. When you look at how many hate crimes occur on a day-to-day basis -- how many murders...I'm just glad you two are okay. It's so important that people know to watch out for their safety. Thank-you for sharing your concern.

I have to interject. XY's not a bad magazine. That kind of sexuality IS one very REAL side of gay culture. XY is fun to read and at least gives young gay boys an outlet for the sexual energy they're channelling. And last I read it, XY was still very adamant about getting the kids to choose safe sex and make responsible, cautious decisions. Anyone who preaches ANYTHING as if you have to accept it is an a**. Especially people who try to tell YOU what you are and are not, and what you feel.
As for homophobes being gay, yes. There are a significant number of people who lash out at anything gay because they have desires of their own they wish to conceal. However, anyone who just assumes that someone who is homophobic is gay is an idiot. Some are, some aren't. Just like any group.

Sexual energy is -all- the magazine promotes. That's the kind of thing that makes people believ that the gay community is one huge orgy. It's bastardization of homosexuality. I'm not going to flame on it, but I have the same issue with QAF. Sexual outlets are fine, but it seems like that's ALL media coverage of the concept emphasizes.

It's what many people in the "communities" have come to believe themselves. The only thing that unites is the fact we are physically and mentally attracted to people of the same gender (though not exclusively).

The concept of love has been transformed into something synonymous with sex. It's even been called "making love" when "love" can have nothing to do with it. It's as if the only way to express your love by sleeping with them, and when it doesn't work out under the sheets, the relationship dies. It's only eventual that we won't be able to or want sex, bed death happens sooner or later, and if a person wants to spend their life evading it that's their own decision.

Fact of the matter is, sexual diversity has evolved into something bigger (albeit, slightly) than just "sex." It has become a sub-culture, a counter-culture, and perhaps even a co-cultural influence, but people continue to fail to grasp that. Art, fiction, ideas of all kinds that are labelled "erotic" are automatically assumed to be something obscene from the mind of a pervert. It can be reverence, study, or sheer aesthetic; masturbation fodder is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't know. There's Will&Grace. there was Normal, Ohio for a bit. If they were exaggerating, I'd be more upset. But some gay men really are like that. That's why I don't like QAF. I already have friends with that much drama. I just had a 4-part entry about some of them in my Journal.

The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals and 362 admonishments to heterosexuals.
That doesn't mean GOD doesn't love heterosexuals. It's just that they need more supervision!

Something from my friends siggy that I think is good o.o;; And has sorta something to do with this topic ^^'

It's really becomming unbearable..

I can't believe someone could hate someone the way they were born.
I usually don't have the confidence to start a thread, but it's really been irritating me badly. Thick minded people saying things like "Gays are going to hell because the bible says so" and "Gays should burn in hell." ...
It makes me ashamed to be Bi, it really does.

Excuse me whilst I type about this.. I hope someone reads it.. sweatdrop

No more gettin' married.
This whole can't get married thing is really pissing me off.. I can understand if it's something the church only did, but I mean, the state also does have it availble not to be married in the church.. So what athority would if have over them? It should have none. I swear, whenever the government gets involved in something, they just twist everything to make it follow their own personal opinion. At least that's how they make me feel. If not, I wish someone would re-assure me.

Unacceptable
People say that being gay is wrong because it is written in the bible.. Others simply say they are not comfortable with it. When kids are in history class, and they see a different culture, you tend to hear them laugh.. Why? Because it's different people. It's the same thing. Except, they aren't another culture, they're your next door neighbors. And they wont be leaving for... Ever?

Religious Reasons
First of all, I had to go to a ******** catholic school for eight years. Don't try and preach to me that the bible is a written word form from Jesus, or God.
When you study about it, it says "Man wrote the Bible, with the power of the Holy Spirit" The power of the Holy Spirit made sure they needed to include anti-homosexual remarks? I wouldn't think so. I wouldn't even think Jesus would want it this way. Isn't that what religion is about? Isn't it about love and acceptance? Is this not what Jesus taught? They're not thinking... Not at all.
I for one do not believe in religion, by the way. I know it seems it.
Sometimes I think kids that don't go to catholic school are more apt to believe in religion.. sweatdrop

Now.. If any homophobe who could possibly prove to me that Homosexuality is wrong, speak. whee heart

Our culture is getting more accepting, I have a feeling.. I could hope it only gets better..

Yes, i'm done.. gonk
