When they came to the twilight forest with all the spray painted trees Quin gave a set of new orders.
"Turn this thing around, deploy your men but be ready to keep your lives and make a dash back to the camp. If that way is block fall back up into the mountains and we'll fortify you as we can. We need to consolidate our holdings."
Jumping from the cab to the ground would have hurt anyone's legs and feet, so Quin climbed down like any sane person and ordered his men out of the back.
The miners had taken the Twilight Forest.

Leaving some explosives for the men to set up some traps Quin turned towards the Mountain pass. This was going to be interesting. Following the trail he half remebered he moved upwards into the hills that would become a mountain.
The soldiers left behind were in capable hands though, they had a comradership that was common amongst the armed forces. They went about their work, setting up a perimeter and laying down trip wires to allert them of incoming foes. They even tripped some of the wires to explosives so the enemy would have other things on their mind.
Fishingline thin wire and low to the ground would be nigh impossible to see in the twilight of these woods.

[From dead woods] It was a long walk, and by the time he was through to a slightly drier area he was on the bike.
This made it flat-out impossible to see a tripwire. What he did see was the truck, still waiting patiently. He waved gaudily, again using the mindset it was better to hail than be shot at, and approached.
Then there was gunfire, snaps in the distance. The driver's face changed to worry, and Jacob remounted the bike. "Watch for the wires!" Shouted the driver as Jacob moved on past. He shouted back "Radio ahead for me!" Even as his feet came down on the priming pedal, and the bike started off. It was going to be a bumpy ride for speeds sake... And he hoped his fellows kept their eyes open. Otherwise, there was a huge potential for suck.

Jacob caught sight of a miner ahead, with a sheathed machete and a pump-action shotgun, bent over. The miner raised his hands in large motions, as if warding off Jacob.
He caught the hint, and stopped long enough for the man to disarm the improvised explosive. When Jacob resumed his travel, nodding appreciatively to the man, the rigged dynamite he saw scared the s**t out of him.
This was going to be an interesting trip up the slope...
And the shots still were echoing along. Jacob unslung the walky-talky, controlling the bike with one hand over the rough terrain by some miracle, and called ahead: "This is Jacob Bails, SMC, on a noisy choking bike. Stay alive!" [Mountain Pass]

Another squad gone, damn, must be some ******** brutal monsters out there to take them so easily. That or Skinner had just picked up a bunch of welfare bums and given them guns. Considering some of the troops that was a fare estimate.
Well he didn't have time to worry about that.

Shifting his course to the east Quin headed towards the deadwoods. It seemed he'd be swimming once more.

Shouyin walked deeper into the forest, switching frequencies back to the miners' wavelength as he increased his pace to a light run. He wasn't sure about the activity at ruins, but he was getting closer, and figured he should be prepped in case it exploded in their faces.
Because sadly, that was rather likely to happen.

The grip of the combat knife was re-affirmed underneath the black glove. The night had brought on an unsettling quiet but it just served to pump the adrenaline through Shouyin.

It was a darker part of the forest. This suited his mood.
The fight was over. He'd done little again.
He was wet, and still had some mud on him that he couldn't get off. And he had no idea where he was going, or what the hell he planned to do.
The soaked green coat's long tails swept back, he walked with his hands in his pockets, his goggles still over his eyes. The greaves squelched on the inside, but no longer on the outside at least, coated lightly with fresh swamp mud. And that black hat, soaked and looking slightly more brown now, adorned his head, still hiding white hair with all the more subdued colors he wore.
So basically, anyone who wasn't specifically watching for someone to come from his direction might hear the wet sounds of him walking, or smell all that swamp filth, but they weren't going to randomly chance to see him, not very likely.

Kalis could go across plains, or up into the mountains. All he knew was that the mountains were where he had come from, and that would be empty now. Better to head a different way.
The plains. That put him wide in the open again. But there was no real helping it.
So, that was the way Kalis would go, onto the plains.

At least it was friendly territory they were passing through.

Quite. Though Shou wasn't all that sure where they were going. "You got something in the mines yo?"

Kalis still wasn't wasting anytime. He was far from home, and not wanting to meet up with anyone.
Pulling his coat and hat back on for camoflauge, as before, he ran straight into and through the forest, headed straight through, not wandering, toward the mountains, which would hopefully be a safer way around Miner land and back home.

And so, exit Kalis, into the mountain pass, at a slow run.

Familiar territory, but they weren't going to go the normal way. No, they had recieved a contact on the radio that something was going down about the ruins so they were going to head up from behind.
