Can I brag about my older sister here? xd

It's not me, but she's done what I have- and LOTS LOTS more than me.

Wow, everyone. This thread is actually making me cry. redface

Each and every single one of you amaze me, and your stories are beautiful and hopeful and heartwarming. And I mean every single one of you.

Even the little things, and the little efforts we make, bring joy to others, and faith, and love. And that's what it's about.

Of course, sponsoring a child in Niger is incredible, and the bigger things are certainly amazing as well, and incredibly awesome of you.

But for those of you who haven't done something on that level yet, don't think that opening milk cartons for a kindergardener isn't bringing an element of love or compassion into the picture. *hugs Lorysa*

All of your stories brought tears to my eyes, and reminded me of why I love each and every single one of you so much. :'D

And Chat, feel free to post whatever you like. We'd love to hear of your sister's accomplishments as well. ^ ^

I also received a PM from a very good pro-choice friend of mine, WatersMoon110. She's very sweet, and very kind, and was one of the few pro-choicers who was strongly against pro-choicers invading our guild. She's amazing too. And she has a wittle cat. ^o^

I was wondering if you would mind adding this to your thread, as I can't post in the PLG anymore. If you don't want to, that's cool also.

I have been active through my churches. The Quaker church I went to when I was young used to send care packages to Ecuador, and my family always contibuted clothes, toys for the children, food, and money for goods and medical services. A wonderful woman from that church would go to Ecuador for half of the year, and took the car packages with her.

When I was older, we joined the UU church. My youth group bought baby supplies for a few different women who couldn't afford to buy their own. My family also contributed to UNICEF through that church.

Lately what I have been doing is learning to be more tolerant of people on the other side of this issue (I am Pro-Choice) because I felt I didn't really understand what it meant to be Pro-Life. I am really, really glad that I did this. I have also been trying to push for tolerance within my side, and am trying to be a good influence to anyone I can. wink

I hope that one day abortion will be completely unnecessary.

Thanks!

Wow, this thread can be intimidating if ya let it get to ya.

I haven't done anything near as grand as everyone else who has posted in here has. Mostly mycontributions stay poretty close to family. I have my younger siblings over to my house during the day so my mom doesn't have to pay for daycare while she works. I do the same for my nephews when my older sister is in town. I provide a church nursery for the women who have church activites they want to go to but normally can't because they have small children. And then every year around the holiday season (thanksgiving - Newyear's) I help sponsor a food and clothings drive for the local homeless shelters and run a toy drive for the children's hospital wards.

Nothing special but I try. sweatdrop

The mere fact that you're acting on kind thoughts and love to help other people is enough to make your accomplisments very special. ^ ^

I just moved, so I'm still looking for the local Food Not Bombs people.

And um...does working in health care count? sweatdrop I've seriously considered working for Medecins du Monde or a similar organisation, but I've got some expenses to take care of before I just pack up and work for free. gonk

Of course it counts! 4laugh

Like I said. As long as you're helping someone, or making someone's day a little better, it counts.

I babysat for the neighbors once, and we donate money to the church, which not only keeps the church standing, but helps pay for the education of a group of kids in Guatamala.

Both me and my mom always have the desire to serve others. We did countless of service projects together. When my big sister was living at our house she helped too, sometimes.

Heck, this year I gave a public presentation on how to organize a service project. I can go ahead and type out what I taught if you guys are interested.

I'll mention two long-term projects we did.

My older sister organized a long-term service project to make 20 twin sized quilts for a homeless shelter. This lasted several months, I think, until it was completed. And they were nine-square quilts, not the type of quilts you just slap together. She really worked hard to make those quilts and they all were beautiful.

The second long-term project actually started last year in December. I really wanted to help underprivileged pregnant women so I put together a project to make a minimum of 20 care baskets for the new moms who were clients of CareNet. Each basket were filled with a handmade baby quilt, a matching baby bag, baby items, and personal items for the new mom. I finished my project last April. And it got so many people excited that I'm going to continue the project. I have another basket to put together soon.

I could mention smaller projects we did. Like, some of my siblings and my parents donated blood (I have yet to donate). We help at animal shelters and donate food to the needy. All three of my brothers earned their eagle award in boy scouts (I was too little to remember what they did to help the community). Yea, stuff like that.

I help out everyone in the world just by existing, cause if I didn't the average coolness percentage of the human race would go down.

@Aks: That's amazing; do you have any pictures of those beautiful quilts? I just think that's awesome. Give yourself, your sister, and your family a big hug from the Ebbers. Even though they don't know me. ;_____; Still.

I really appreciate her attitude, and have decided to extend her a membership, because she's respectful and appreciative of the different sides of the issue.

She's real sweet; everyone here would love to have her. She doesn't hate pro-lifers, and she's stood up for us in her own guild as well as the thread in ED. She's like, Louis Vuiton in Wal-Mart. heart

And thanks so much to Ebony, who made this wonderful thread, which makes me feel both happy and sad as I read it.

*glomps Waters*

You're very, very welcome! I just thought that maybe this thread could change the minds of a few other pro-choicers who don't think that pro-lifers care about anyone else except fetii. Which is totally false, as ya'll can see.

I also made this just to remind people that there are so many little things we can do to make someone's day just a little better, and how much of an impact it can have on their lives. n____n

I don't get that. As far as I can tell, there are maybe a handful of Pro-Lifers who either only care about fetii, or only care about punishing women for having sex. Just like there are a handful of Pro-Choicers who only care about themselves (and them not being pregnant) or only care about attacking Pro-Lifers.

Most people on both sides just want what they feel is best. We just disagree on what that is. And hopefully, someday in the not too distant future, there will be a way for just about everyone to agree. (I'm hoping for fetal adoption and 100% effective birth control, so that abortions would only be performed to save the life of the mother)

Yes!

Because you never know how much you can help others, until you try. Just talking to one of your friends or volunteering can make a huge difference.
