Third trimester abortions are legal in america as long as you have the all powerful "mental health of the mother" to justify them.
That's just wrong. Just because the mother is mentally unstable to care for them doesn't mean they should kill the fetus when both are physically healthy. They could wait until it's born and take it away from the mother and put it up for adoption.
I think the only time they should allow third trimester abortions if she is going to die but they can also do a C-section and have the child and mother still live so really alot of times at that point it is unnessary.
Just about the only time a third trimester abortion is performed is to save the life of the mother and/or when the fetus is already dead. A woman would just not be able to find a doctor to perform an abortion that late, even for mental health reasons, even in places where there isn't a cut off limit for abortions (which there is in many places).
So while it is still legal for a third trimester abortion to be done for mental health reasons, in some areas, it just isn't likely.
