Dear Diary,

Have you ever held something in your hand, and felt like it’s part of you, something that you really must have? I felt that way about this box that I bought yesterday. I was on the way to the market to get apples to make candy apples with Akio with, but the directions that Akio gave me were wrong, or something, and I ended up stranded on an alleyway.

I went into the only shop that didn’t look completely abandoned, to ask for directions. The shop looked almost exactly like our attic… filled with clutter, and assorted objects. Ancient jars and lamps littered the shelves, and a

Uh oh… Niiro and Kyul just knocked something over. If it’s my box, I swear I’m going to kill them. More later.

Dear Diary,

Observation: It’s a bit hard to write while clutching one’s jewelry box in one hand, and trying bend your arm around it to find a comfortable position.

I woke up a few moments ago, not from an act of violence from my dream, or from any outside shaking, but as soon as I opened my eyes, they were drawn to my jewelry box. The heart at the center of the box that I had chosen to store everything from Shina in was glowing softly, the same cream color as the stars outside my window.

And here I am now, cradling the jewelry box close to me, as if it were a child, and mindlessly scribbling in this little book. Maybe I’m just crazy…

I’ll keep you posted.

I've been awake for a couple hours... I feel like something important is going to happen, and that I shouldn't go to sleep yet.

A few minutes ago, my eyes drifted back to the box, and I saw the heart grow dull for a few moments, before it realized I was watching, and the glow quickly came back. It's flickered like that a few times now, and I get this feeling that it's timid, and a little scared of me.

I'm not sure what to do right now... but I've got an idea. I have an old music box that I found in the attic a while ago, and I'm going to wind that up and play it. Maybe it will soothe the box.
PostPosted: Thu Sep 23, 2004 5:23 pm

It must be an hour, at least since something was seen staring at Hoshi, the minutes ticking by painfully slow while the attempts at soothing the box seem to do nothing.

But finally, the same flicker of something as before moves past, only this time... it's a little clear than the last time. And it lasts a few moments longer than before...

When Hoshi goes to inspect the odd flickering of light around the front of the box, there's a face peering back at him. The eyes of the face grow wide, and then the face moves away.

And there are footsteps behind Hoshi. Whatever was looking at him in the reflection, has hidden somewhere in his room...

Hoshi whirled around, his stormy gray eyes searching the room for any sign of where someone in the room could be. His heart was beating faster, and he looked closer, searching for the child he had seen in the box.

"Hello?" he called, his eyes drifting over the room. Dresser, curtains, bed, desk, chair, bookshelf. Where could the intruder be?
PostPosted: Thu Sep 23, 2004 5:32 pm

From underneath the bedside table that the box used to sit on, a girl peers upwards at Hoshi, curled up into a tight ball with little wings wrapped around her shoulders...

Hoshi's iron eye's spread open wide, and he peered at the timid child, who looked as if she could be his sister, or even his twin.

"What's your name, little one?" he asked gently, weaving his way to the bedside table. The small girl-child merely curled herself tightered into a ball, and tried to press herself against the wall. "Ardre..." she whispered, the soft sound barely audible, and Hoshi had to strain to hear it.

"Ardre..." he murmered, trying to think of where he had heard the name. It sounded like some of the Elven words that Shina whispered to him, but he couldn't put his finger on how he knew it.

But Hoshi's fatherly instincts got the best of him, and he realized that this child had to be related to him in someway, and he reached out to her, sliding her closer to him.

"I'm Hoshi," he whispered back, a small grin appearing on his face. "How about we find you somewhere to sleep, if you're going to be staying here, which I'm guessing you are." She seemed so helpless, and he knew that she had no where to go but here.

"Lets go, shall we?" he asked, trying to scoop her into his arms. She tightened immediatly, though, at his touch, becoming as stiff as a slab of wood, and Hoshi snatched his hand back, a wave of fear and timidness rushing over him like warm water.

Hoshi's eyebrows hunched together, and he stared the girl, wondering if those feelings were hers, and how he had even gotten them. "Ahh, well, lets just go..." he whispered, gently taking her hand, which she seemed to accept more than a hug. She unfolded herself, her tiny wings flapping shyly as they aired out after being clutched close to her, and wobbled to her feet, pulling on Hoshi's hand to help her keep her balance.

Hoshi's grin widened, and his heart swelled as he watched Ardre cling to him... this was his responsiblity, something for him to show that he could care for something.

Dear Diary,

Oi, perhaps I should make myself write more often in this journal... it keeps slipping my mind to do so, and write about Ardre.

She's growing up beautifully, as curious as any young child, though only when I am the sole person in the room. When there is someone else, she instantly becomes clingy to me, hiding and shying away from the other person, even if they try to bribe her.

She seems to find solace in another type of creature, though. While she is shy around humans, or Fa'es, she seems to have attached herself to the animal and plant life around the house. She still doesn't venture outside by herself, perhaps for fear of someone being out there that she does not know, but when I go with her, it is happiest that I have ever seen her.

She plops onto the moist soil, surrounded by the fertile garden, and chatters and blabbers her baby talk to the plants, and the animals when they come to her. I have tried to make friend with the animals myself, but I none will come to me. They have no regrets about my reflection though, and she seems to share a bond with them. The butterflies, especially, will flutter through the flowers and find her, clinging to her nose, or her hair, or perching on her little stars, to her greatest delight.

We've tried to teach her English words, and she seems to have picked up on a couple of them, but she won't use them when chattering to me. And she'll only talk to me when she's been cooped up inside for too long, which isn't often. The child loves the rain, teetering and tottering on her still un-steady feet as she prances around the garden, picking herself up as she falls, the small animals that gather helping her keep her balance.

It truly is an amazing sight... to see her surrounded by the animals that have been reluctant to come to anyone, and she loves them so dearly. I just wish she could show that love and attention to other humans, I'm sure she'd find delight in them, as well.

On the doorstep, a neat box is sitting with a note tucked under the string.

Inside, is this lantern.

As you twirl it at night, the light makes the stars appear to twinkle and dance around the edges.

The note reads:

Quote:
Dear Ardre and Hoshi

We thought this might be nice for you, because it's rather like the night sky. Rora picked it out herself, she remembers Ardre and 'The man in the dress' very well. We hope you're both doing well.

It was the end of a rainy day, and you step outside for just a moment to see if the rain had finally let up. Just as you do so, you notice a small package carefully wrapped in plastic to keep the rain out, sitting on your door step. You recognize the familiar "Through the Looking Glass" stationary, on which is written:

Note in Emme's round print

Dear Hoshi and Ardre,
I was watching the shop today when Sao Kasai came by to drop off these adorable little dolls! She made one for each of the children. Despite the weather, I couldnt' wait to give them out! I wrapped up Ardre's Doll very carefully. Enjoy!

A woman wonders to your front door and leaves something on your doorstep. You open the door to see what it is and discover a black box wrapped with a red bow. You pick it up and bring it inside, a bit weary of what may lay inside... You open the box and see purple wrapping tissue paper, a sheet of crimson stationary laying ontop of it all.
note

Greetings!
I seem to have made something that might be to you and your child's liking. Do not worry, nothing will explode in your face or jump out and bite you. smile Hope you enjoy your present!
*PS: I made one for every child*

A car pulled up to the driveway of the house, and put the car in park while Zanna hurried out of the car and placed a letter on the doorstop, and before she left, she set a clean rock down on the parchment so it wouldn't blow away. Inside the envelope is a purple piece of stationary with black cursive writing on it.

Letter
Dear Hoshi and Ardre,

Zanna and I, X (Zanna's gaurdian), would like to invite you and your child to an impromptu get together with us and as many other Simulacra and their gaurdians (or just gaurdians depending on the stage) as possible. Hopefully you will be able to make it. The party will be at my estate and you are welcome to drop by whenever you can, gifts are not needed, but I would ask you to bring some sort of food dish, since I cannot cook to save my life. It is this Friday and Saturday, from noon Friday to Saturday whenever. Call me with questions and RSVP ((PM)), directions are on the back.

Thanks and hope to see you,

X, Zanna, and the rest of the family.

Zanna hurried back to the car, they had many more places to go still!

((Hope it was okay to post this.))

Dear Diary,

It’s been a while since I wrote in here, hasn’t it? I suppose I’ve been too busy with other things to find time to post in a diary, though I have definitely been spending all of that extra time with Ardre.

My baby is growing, and growing rapidly. She seems to be about the age of 6 or 7 now, rather than 2, when she first showed herself. She has continued to wrap herself in a cape of mysteriousness, and security, and not many have been able to venture into it. Besides those animals and plants that she has clung to, and made her friends.

We’ve adapted the guestroom next to mine to be Ardre’s room, and she seems to love it. She won’t even let me in there to see it, but I’m guessing that she has stations for her precious animals stationed around the area. I tried to get her interested in painting, but she didn’t pick it up, and I could tell that she was longing for the safety of her friends as I showed her the paints.

It seems like she is speaking her own language sometimes. I can’t understand a word she says to those animals, but they all adore her to no end. Everywhere she goes, you can be assured that a small squirrel will be hidden in her pocket, or a blue jay will be nesting in her hair. She loves them, though, and they haven’t been too much a nuisance yet, so I’ve decided to let them stay.

Ardre has become a master of the English language now, thankfully. She seemed reluctant to pick it up, until I started to teach her the names of each of her friends. It was like something had awakened in her, and almost immediately, she was learning words quicker than I had seen any human pick it up. That was a couple weeks ago, and now she can speak like what I think human six and seven year olds can, though she hasn’t shown any exceptional skill in writing or reading, though she’s learning to do both.

We’ve received three presents so far, much to Ardre’s delight. Two toys, made in her likeness, that I assume she has hidden away in her room, and a beautiful starry lantern whose stars twirl and twinkle as you spin it.

And we went to the HQ the other day, and I got to see Kia! I talked to her for a long time, and told her about my engagement to Shina, and how we’re going to have a baby. I’m not sure what Ardre is going to think of the babe, but I hope she won’t reject her. I’d love to see the two of them become friends. Kia gave Ardre two gifts, a little golden flower that she carried around with her for days before all of the leaves shriveled up and died, and a beautiful star necklace, that she wears 24/7. I think she has really taken to Kia, which I think is great. I hope she can see more of her, since Kia is one of my great friends, and I’d love to see my reflection like her as much as I do.

We received an invitation in the mail a day ago, as well. It invited us to a party tonight, and I think we’ll go. Maybe Ardre can meet more people, and become friends? I hope so. I’d like to see her interact more with the other Simulacra.

Dear Diary,

I can’t seem to keep my mind on this diary long enough to actually pick it up and try to write in it. There has been so much going on it my life, it just crazy.

Not much I can say now, without spending hours documenting every detail, for it seems that Ardre’s life is taking a turn into that. I gave her a journal yesterday, for I taught her to write, and read, but expect it to be a little while before she actually opens up to anyone.

Oh well, who knows what will happen. I found a watercolor picture that she did some time ago, and I think it is really great. She'll be a great artist later.

I think it's over her, and her bird, and a flower.
