Just a thought, but i recon the new cars should start at the begining of the year. Not 3 or 4 rounds in.

Then that would require the FIA to make a deadline for Formula cars to be built and safety tested, which we know could NEVER happen at any team.
Practice in India looks interesting, the Ferrari boys are "near the front" but a McLaren driven by test driver Alexander Wurz is sitting on the throne of a 1:30 lap time. Funny that Pedro is in Montoya's seat this weekend though.

India sounds interesting more and more... Check out the track temperature for qualifying... 131 degrees Fahrenheit!
I'd like to pass a thank you to ITV in Britian, they give out "{code} friendly" qualifying results.

India is all over, the track speed cooled all race long, but it was still a scorcher. 110 F or 44 C for most of the race.
Replacement driver Pedro de la Rosa surprised me with his awesome showing. He made his Williams hit an amazing top speed... 337 kph or 210 MPH. I for one have never heard of such speed from a test driver, it's just beyond belief.
The new Ferrari's plain old stunk! Rubens failed to score and Michael had problems.
David, David, David... yes we know Jacques is all washed up, but as president of the driver's union you can't prove that JV should leave F1 by taking him out! That's just not nice and you, DC, know it. It's a wonder how JV can keep his cool after that incident.

Alonso is dominating 2005!
That's what I'd be saying if I was a Renault fan.
Instead, I've been partying non-stop since JV actually scored points! And if Jenson Button loses the FIA appeal, Jacques will have a total of 4 points!

Soon, I will have the stat update for Canada.
I went to a trendy bar and grill for dinner the day the F1 race was on, so I got to watch the start via Formula1.com and the middle and end at Jungle Jim's Eatery in Truro (in case any Canadians have heard of such place). When I got to the eatery, they showed the replay of BOTH Renaults dropping out of the race, Fisi with a done shifter in his gearbox (shifting is a hydrolaulics issue) and Alonso tapped the wall and cooked the right rear swaybar. Juan Montoya was Disqualified for coming out of the pits during a Safety Car situation with the end pit light showing red ( talk2hand doesn't work in F1, Juan.)! Jenson Button hit the Gilles Villeneuve chicane heading to the front straight, so he pulled a Jacques!
Speaking of Jacques.... Hometown boy Jacques Villeneuve was apparently at fault when Takuma Sato left the track (note, Sato was no where near JV before this) and came back out in front of him, causing JV to hit the back of Sato's tyre and losing his own front wing. That dropped JV from 13th in race position to 20th and beyond race contention. JV finished .1 seconds behind 8th place Klien (groan) and 1 lap down on the eventual winner....
KIMI Raikkonen! This time, that front suspension held up, and with a blazing Red Ferrari on his rear! Michael doesn't ever disappoint the fans in Canada, but he did disappoint himself, as Ferrari's 3 stop strategy couldn't give them the win over a 2 stopper.

Bad news Ralf fans (and Meteora, you know it was BOUND to happen again).
Lightning has struck twice for Ralf Schumacher.
Friday Practice #2 was shaken up about 13 minutes in when the Toyota driven by Ralf Schumacher blew a left rear tyre... in the banking... (I can smell the people cringing with "preparing for impact" faces) and nailed the turn 1 oval wall after doing a full 360 degree spin up the hill. Carbon fibre littered the front straight with pieces of suspension, rubber, and Toyota chassis parts. When the torn up ride stopped, Ralf immediately hopped out of the car as it laid to rest by the front straight pit wall (Yay! He's Okay... wait a minute, it's not over yet, is it, Ponza?). Attempting to climb over the flag gap in that wall proved impossible for Ralf, as it seems he has once again injured his back from the US GP walls. He was escorted by the FIA doctors to the ambulance and was taken to a nearby facility for testing.
Michelin believes cold tyres and a low rear tyre pressure setting were at fault, which means it was team error that caused the crash. Ralf set no time for the session, as it was his first flying hot lap out of the pits. This is after Indy put in 2 new walls for this event: the Safety Barrier wall that Nascar is accustomed to, and the FIA anti-bounce barrier (my name for it, to which it didn't do it's job as Ralf passed it before the tyre blow-out) which keeps cars coming out of the last road course corner from hitting the wall of turn 2 oval and coming back into oncoming traffic.

Check out Formula1.com for more information about the Ralf Schumacher incident, as it's more deep than I can type in one Gaia post.
UPDATE: Ralf is indeed out of the GP. Backup driver Ricardo Zonta is in his seat. Ralf's teammate Jarno Trulli got pole surprisingly.

Unofficial Result of the United States Grand Prix:
1) Michael Schumacher - Ferrari 2) Rubens Barrichello - Ferrari 3) Tiago Monteiro - Jordan-Midland 4) Narain Karthikeyan - Jordan-Midland** 5) Christijan Albers - Minardi 6) Patrick Friesacher - Minardi Retired*: Jarno Trulli - Toyota Kimi Raikkonen - McLaren-Mercedes Jenson Button - BAR-Honda Giancarlo Fisichella - Renault Fernando Alonso - Renault Takuma Sato - BAR-Honda Mark Webber - Williams-BMW Felipe Massa - Sauber-Petronas Juan Pablo Montoya - McLaren-Mercedes Jacques Villeneuve - Sauber-Petronas Ricardo Zonta - Toyota Christian Klien - Red Bull Racing Nick Heidfeld - Williams-BMW David Coulthard - Red Bull Racing
* - I will assess this once all is revealed of this monsterous disappointment. I watched this United States Grand Prix in its entirety, and as a fan for many years, I have never seen such act of politics and greed between the FIA and the rival teams involved in the issue at hand. In short, because of the evidence of the Ralf Schumacher incident, both of last year and of this year, as well as the Michelin statements about how teams needed to drive slower in the banking, the Michelin tire teams withdrew from the GP stating that they were using faulty equipment and refused to let their drivers risk their lives on the track. The drivers would also like to apoligize tot he fans, as they wanted to race, but their teams told them "No."
** - First Indian driver to score points in Formula 1.
