I knew them back in '97, didn't really realise it was Green Day untill 2002, when I started to become a fan. Still, I did like Good Riddance and Hitchin' a Ride. But I was 7 back then, and not that big of a music fan.
Still, I don't think that being a big fan depends on how long you know them. I know people who got into them half a year ago, but they sure are big fans(and not just fans of the American Idiot stuff)

I think it shouldn't matter how long you've been a fan as long as you know wht Green Day is about, respect them (love them), and not talk bad about them. I mean, things like this vary. Sure, maybe one song got you hooked, and that's okay. But a true Green Day fan keeps listening and will like the band for what they are and what they believe. wink

Knowing and loving Green Day for a certain period of time does not make you The Biggest green Day fan. So if you don't mind my saying, I object to this thread.
#1. My dad liked Green Day during their Dookie days and have liked them since. That's about 11 years, aye? But he isn't the biggest Green Day fan I know.
#2. I've only known Green Day for about 3 years now, and that's the longest anyone at my school has ever known them. Hence, I'm the biggest fan at my school, dressing myslef in Green Day stuff, hauling around almost every Green Day patch and button known to eBay and Hot Topic, and lugging around my ten pound Green Day backpack! Just because you know a band for 10 years, does not make you their biggest fan.

If anything, I'm saying that being Green Day's biggest (or oldest) fan is rediculous because all of us real Green Day fans don't care how much another person likes Green Day, we just go on admiring and worshiping the band! 3nodding

I think the way the title way phrased got under people's skin. It came off as if you were saying "I'm a bigger fan than you are because I've been listening to them for longer." I'm sure your intentions were good, but the way you stated that caused some misunderstanding.

I've been listening to them for about 7 years. When thats a little less then half your lifetime, it seems a lot bigger. I'm not saying I'm a huge fan because I will admit I fased out of them between Shenanigans and AI. I guess I didn't really like Shenanigans... And also... I wasn't obsessed with them then. They were just, the band I listened to the most.
But I think it's funny that when other girls were listening to Backstreet boys and Spice girls, I was listening to Green Day.
