I don't know, really. Her family were complete jerks to her in the beginning and I didn't like them at all. But, in the more recent episodes, they seem to be alright now. Like at the end of the bug hunting arc. ^^

Her family is quite harsh on her, though I don't think that's any reason to hate them. After all, they are just acting according to tradition. Neji had his reasons for hating Hinata, though those soon went down the drain. As for Hiashi, maybe he just doesn't know how to show affection? I mean, he's even cold to Hanabi, and she's supposedly being trained to be the next heir. Also, for some reason I think that Hanabi would have respect for her older sister, I dun know why, though.

thuhgamefreak I don't really like Hiashi because of the wayhe treated Hinata, claiming that Hanabi was better than her. I think he only asaved her because at that point, she was his only child and the only heir to the main branch. I used to hate Neji, but I think he's pretty cool now, since he stopped being such a jerk. Ditto, except I'm not far enough into the series where Neji stops being a jerk.

You're the head of a clan. A very POWERFUL clan that is very important to the village and country you live in. Your clan had problems, yes, but you must stick with tradition, so you're not willing to change anything.
You have to children, both of whom are females. Your oldest daughter is very determined, and you love her for it. But you watch her day by day, and know that she has a weak mind despite her strong heart, and she's not at the level she needs to be to rule a clan as great as yours.
You're younger daughter has a strong heart, and a strong mind. She's improving every day, and she's passonate about it. She and your older daughter sparred, and the younger daughter defeated her. Your second child is stronger, and more fit, to be an heir. But, that daughter is still VERY young. You're a ninja who may be killed at any time. So you spend all of your time training that one daughter to make sure that your clan is in good strong hands. You're older daughter has a sensei now, and SHE can teach her to be stronger, because either way, she's not fit to be an heir.
Despite that it's cruel and harsh, Hiashi did what he did, and it makes SENSE. Hiashi is a very stubborn and strict man. But many dads are like that. I think he DOES love Hinata like a daughter, despite how he treats her. And I do think that when he began training Neji, he began to treat Hinata better.

Like you said your older daughter is very determined with a strong heart. She trains diligently every day and is constantly working to get better. Despite the fact that she is called a loser and a failure and is always making mistakes, she's still fighting and training hard instead of giving up like most kids her age would do. While the younger daughter may be stronger at this point this will no doubt change as the older daughter gets stronger and more confident. And just because the older daughter has a sensei now does not necessarily mean that she will learn much from this teacher, especially since this teacher is not a Hyuuga and does not know the Jyuuken style or possess the Byakugan kekkei genkai. Just because the younger daughter shows more promise does not mean she is correct for the job. He should train them both and try to encourage his older daughter more that way he can really see what she can do and then try to make the best decision.

I do think that one day Hinata will gain the confidence to release her full potential and beat Hanabi.
I think it's at that point that Hiashi will truely respect her again.
As for somebody training her, I'm sure that Neji would work with her if he hasn't already.
Meh, I'm losing my point. All that I was trying to say that Hiashi had a reason to ignore Hinata, and when it comes to a clan-leader point of view, it was reasonable.
Now on a father-daughter level, it's not reasonable at all. Which I think is what everyone else here is trying to say, and I fully agree. I'm just saying that if you look at it another way, it's not ALL "Oh the Hyuuga are s**t because they treat Hinata bad." There was REASON to why Hiashi gave up on Hinata, that's what I'm pointing out. I'm not saying it wasn't wrong, because on family terms, it was.

Hinata's family, in my opinion, can use a different take on the way to make Hinata stronger. there is no way that berating a child like that can even improve anything, much less her confidence to do what she needs to do to fight. they are also blind to the way she trains, so diligently. Finally, she trains and fights for the right reason, to protect whom she loves (Much influenced by the Uzumaki) and to prove that she isn't weak.
