Ep 2.07 The Usual Suspects

It would seem that in this episode our two heroes have managed to run afoul of the men and women in blue during an investigation, with Dean’s past in St. Louis coming back to haunt them. Their problems with the police interfere with their investigation, but it also seems to be a wonderful time to show the world the power of siblings in action.

We find Sam in a holding room while a policewoman exits the room to speak to her partner, Detective Sheridan. The woman, Detective Ballard, finds him looking into a two way mirror into Dean’s holding room.

Ballard: You getting anywhere with him?
Sheridan: A lotta wise a** remarks. Otherwise, nothing new. You?
Ballard: Sam’s story matches Dean’s to the last detail. Even recited the same list of items that Caron asked them to pick up from Giles’s office.
Sheridan: These guys are good, I’ll give ‘em that. Gonna make it that much sweeter when we put Dean away.
Ballard: How are we gonna do that? Our evidence is circumstantial, we don’t have a motive. If Sam doesn’t flip, their story holds up.

Ballard is obviously frustrated and upset over the fact that they really have nothing on the Winchesters, and Sheridan leans forward showing us that these two are more than just partners. They continue talking about the case, how they found Dean at Caron’s murder scene covered in his blood but the murder weapon had mysteriously vanished. Ballard rules out Dean passing the weapon off to Sam, believing that Sam is not a murderer. Sheridan gets frustrated with his partner when she brings up his friend, Giles, and takes the good cop standpoint of having to investigate every angle of the case. They eventually decide to put Sam and Dean in the same room together, wondering if they will give anything away when together.

Dean is led into Sam’s room and the two brothers sit down to talk. They greet each other normally, but they are too smart for the detectives. They know what’s going on and so they speak quickly and then, only about the spirit investigation.

Dean: Whadya find out about Dana Shulps?
Sam: She doesn’t exist. I checked everywhere.
Dean: Her name was there again. Last night. (beat) It doesn’t make sense. It has to be spirit communication. Otherwise it wouldn’t be showing up.
Sam: I agree. But something’s off. Maybe we’re misunderstanding?

We go to another scene with Sam alone again with a man named Krauss. A soda is on the table before Sam as Ballard leans in and tells Krauss that he is needed in the other room with Dean. We watch Sam lean forward nonchalantly and take a drink of his soda.

As Krauss walks into the room holding Dean he is greeted by Ballard and Sheridan, and a uniformed officer holding a camera up at a now unshackled Dean.
Sheridan: Your boy decided to confess. Don’t worry, we’re doing it all official.
Krauss: Mr. Winchester, I advice against this. Strongly.
Sheridan: I’m sure you do. (to Dean) Just talk into the camera. So we have a record. Start with your name.
Dean: My name is Dean Winchester. And I want to make it clear—I didn’t kill anyone. But I know who did. Or, I know what did. And I should say “I suspect” because, frankly, we didn’t get far in our investigation before we were interrupted.
(He shoots an annoyed look at the detectives)
Dean: Anyway, our working theory, we’re looking at some kind of vengeful spirit. Remember the “hallucinations” the Gileses’s saw? That was a ghost. One that haunts its victims before killing them. Rare, but not unheard of. What’s really interesting is this word it leaves behind.

Dean then shows the camera, and the cops, a piece of paper with the word on it. Danashulps. Sheridan groans in annoyance but Ballard noticeably reacts.

Dean: I know, looks like the chicken scratches of a crazy person. But, actually, if you unscramble it . . .(Dean flips the paper around) . . .Bam! You get the name of a street.

Dean shows off the name of the street, Ashland. Now it’s Sheridan’s turn to react and he seems to be getting angrier as Dean goes on.

Dean: I know it seems crazy, but think it over. It explains a lot. Like my “trouble” in St. Louis? Seems like I killed a woman, then was shot to death, right? What really happened was Sam and I interrupted a freaky shape-shifter thing during a kill---

Suddenly Dean can’t talk anymore because he’s been slammed into a wall. In seconds, Detective Sheridan has him in a chokehold. Krauss reacts as Dean struggles against the detective.

Sheridan: You arrogant b*****d! Tony and Caron were good people. What you did was brutal, cold-blooded murder. And you’re making jokes?
Krauss: Stop it. Now.
Ballard: Come on. He’s not worth it.

Finally Sheridan nods and pulls away as Dean is cuffed again. He speaks on last time before being pulled from the room.

Dean: You asked for the truth.

Outside in the hall the detective discuss what just happened. Sheridan thinks that Dean is a p***k but Ballard feels that the unscrambled name of the street is something that she has seen before. Sheridan says that each cop in the department has been there a hundred times on patrol, but Ballard can’t shake a feeling that something is going on. They walk into the room where Sam is being held and find him gone. The window is open, the box is missing and Sam is nowhere in sight.
Sheridan: How the hell? The ledge is six inches wide, the fire escape is way over there. . .

Meanwhile, Ballard has found Dean’s note. She scans it and hands it to Sheridan.

Ballard: Check out the signature.
Sheridan: McQueen?! As in “The Great Escape”?! You’ve gotta be kidding me.
Ballard: We’ll get a car over to Ashland street. Sam’s probably heading there.

Ep. 02.08 Crossroad Blues

In this episode we find Dean and Sam dealing with deals made with the devil, so to speak, as they track down a female demoness taking the souls of people so far gone they are willing to do anything to get back on track.
The episode starts out in a juke joint at night; the atmosphere is moody with low lighting, the air hazy with smoke and reeking of cheap perfume and alcohol. Working class black patrons are dressed their best for a night out as they sit nursing drinks, but mostly listening to the best damn blues guitarist in history.

Greenwood Mississippi, August 16, 1938
Staring at the bluesman onstage, a 26 year old black man wearing a pinstripe suit, raked fedora, and radiating confidence as his fingers effortlessly pull at the strings of his guitar, is young and pretty Sadie. She watches him with the awe of a woman at a rock concert and he returns her attention with a knowing smile.
We close on the bluesman, lost in his music, when beneath the rhythm we hear the click, click, click, like claws on a hardwood floor. The bluesman hears the sound as well and opens his eyes, darting his gaze around but sees nothing. He returns to his music, thinking that he must be imaging the sound. The clicking sound resumes, an animal pacing restlessly, and the bluesman opens his eyes again, this time in fear as his fingers drift over the string on autopilot. It is clear that nobody else in the room can hear this sound. The audience, however, is starting to notice is odd behavior as Sadie looks up at the stage in concern. Suddenly the bluesman stops playing as a big, dark shadow erupts past the window. It is the shadow of some kind of large animal. He stops playing abruptly and lets the cigarette fall from his mouth as the audience erupts into confused murmurs. The bluesman tries to fight back his rising panic when he suddenly sees the shadow again through the window, coming closer to the stage. He freaks out and rushes off stage, heading straight for the door.
On a dark road a few moments later we see the bluesman walking, carrying the guitar by the neck as he steals panicked glances over his shoulder, listening for the noise. For awhile all he hears are his own footsteps, then that sound again, something rustling in the brush. The bluesman stops, listens, but hears nothing. He resumes walking and the sound resumes as well. This continues, he stops, it stops, he starts, it starts, when suddenly he hears a low canine growl and the bluesman panics again, dropping his guitar, running full out.
The bluesman hurls himself into his house and locks the door just as the animal throws itself to the door, clawing and scratching. The bluesman backs away in terror and falls to his knees as the animal continues its assault on the door. The animal stops scratching and starts throwing itself at the door, eventually breaking through as the chair smashes into pieces and the door flies open revealing---
Sadie, standing there with two men who just broke down the door, scanning the room worriedly and her eyes widen when she sees the bluesman, his hand wrapped around a bottle as his body convulses in a massive seizure. She runs to the man and sees the bottle, yelling at one of the men to get a doctor. The second man takes off as she pries the bottle from the bluesman’s hand and gives it to the first man. She begs the bluesman to stay with her and he grabs her sleeve. “Dogs” he says but Sadie doesn’t understand, so he tries again. “Black dogs” he says again, but this is met with more confusion as Sadie begs Robert Johnson to stay with her, but he is gone, his eyes rolling up into the back of his head.

We go to Mississippi dirt crossroads at night, ten years earlier, as the bluesman, younger now with a guitar strapped across his back and an anxious gleam in his eyes falls to his knees in the dirt, just as his song says. On soundtrack in the back we hear, “I went to the crossroads, fell down on my knees. . .” and Robert Johnson begins digging in the dirt with his fingers, dropping ritual items into the hole he’s just made. He covers the hole with dirt, sprinkling hoodoo powder over it in a circle. He waits and nothing happens, as the song fades away to the silence of the night. Finally he takes out his guitar and starts playing, horribly out of tune with unsteady hands; the end result would make ears bleed. He gives up and stands, turns around to see a beautiful woman standing behind him.

Bluesman- Holy—
Beautiful Woman- Holy? Not in the least.
(Her eyes flash red, revealing that she is a demon, and the bluesman steps back but then steels himself)
Beautiful Woman- What can I do for you?
Bluesman- I wanna, I want you to make me the best bluesman ever lived.
Beautiful Woman- I bet you do. You’re pretty awful. (then) I’ll require a payment.

We watch from the distance as the woman leans in, speaking to the bluesman in low murmurs before he nods. She puts a hand on his cheek and we get close again in time to hear her say,

Beautiful Woman- Then we’re agreed.

As the bluesman wonders if they’re supposed to shake on it she pulls him in for a hot kiss, way better than a handshake and the bluesman doesn’t mind at all. As she pulls away she deliberately touches his hand where it grips the neck of his guitar and a shock runs through him as he looks at the guitar with new understanding. He moves his fingers over the strings, ready to play, looks up to find the woman is gone and he is alone on the crossroads as he begins to play.

In the present it seems that the Winchesters have already caught onto what’s happening as Sam narrows it down for us by stating—

Sam- So Robert Johnson sells his soul at the crossroads, records a bunch of killer songs about it, and the legend just keeps growing. I mean, everyone’s heard his story, right?
Dean- Well, he was important. Jimmy Page had a shrine to the guy.
Sam (thoughtful)- Basically, without him none of the music you like would even exist.
Dean- Yeah. I’d be forced to listen to all those angry chick singers you’re into.

We go to a rundown apartment building as Dean and Sam walk through the halls, stopping at a door marked 4C. Sam notices a line of black dust laid out just in front of the door.

Sam- Look at this.
(Both brothers crouch down to check out the black dust.)
Dean- What is that? It looks like pepper.

Just then the door opens and reveals George Barrow, a sixtyish man with a weathered face holding a whisky glass and eyeing them suspiciously. George demands their identities and Sam straightens up while his brother keeps looking at the dust. Sam introduces them to the man but he replies curtly, telling them that he’s not buying anything and begins to shut the door.

Dean- I think you reached for the wrong shaker, George. Usually when you want to keep something evil out, you go for the salt.
(George freezes) George- I don’t know what you are talking about.

Dean holds up George’s photo from the crossroads and tells him “This”, and George’s eyes widen. Sam steps up, taking his reaction as an opening to further conversation, and tries the usual Winchester “we can help” sells pitch.

Sam- We want to help you.
George (hardening)- Help me what?
Sam- We know you’re in trouble. . . .
Dean (under his breath)- That you got yourself into. . .
(Sam shoots Dean a warning look but Dean ignores it)
Dean (contd)- So seeing that hellhound yet?
(Sam nudges Dean hard and Dean just glares at him)
George (taken aback)- How do you know about that?
Dean- We know a couple things. About what you did.
George- Then you know you can’t help me.
Sam- Okay—Maybe you can help us. One person’s already dead, maybe two. . .

Just then an older woman walks past, shooting the trio a look at the word “dead”.

Dean- Look, we can entertaining the neighbors, or you can invite us in.
George- Five minutes. Step careful—Don’t you disturb the Goofer Dust.

As Dean shoots his brother an incredulous look they enter the apartment. It’s obvious that George a drinker with a heavy alcohol problem, and a practitioner of hoodoo as his apartment is chockfull of mojo bags, herbs, and dog eared books. He also appears to be a genius artist; there are paintings everywhere drawn with a bold, skillful hand but radiating an ominous air of dark figures at crossroads, red eyed woman, hellhounds and hallucinatory faces. As George resumes his alcoholic tendencies they begin a conversation anew, without benefit of the neighbors eavesdropping.

George- You boys think you know something about something—but not Goofer Dust? That’s about the simplest hoodoo there is.
(He tosses a sack of goofer dust at Dean; Dean catches the sack and peers inside, checking out the strange powder)
Sam- Hoodoo’s not really our area of expertise. But we’d like to learn. What’s it for?
George- Keep out demons.
Dean- Demons we know.

As Dean pockets the sack that George tossed at him, Sam wanders over and flips open a disinegrating notebook sitting on a side table. Inside are scribbled hoodoo spell recipes, including Hotfoot Powder, Summon to Crossroads, Reverse Jinx, and Devil Burn Paste. George reminds them that they have four minutes left and Sam goes back to stating that he and Dean want to help him. George replies by saying that his grandmother used to teach him things when he was a kid in New Orleans, and that she had said there were certain kinds of people who made the supernatural world their business and that could clean up a mess. George guesses that those people are the brothers and Sam acknowledges that fact. George comes back at him with “when a person makes their bed, they got to lie in it” and Dean tells him that isn’t really their philosophy, even though earlier he was pointing out that George made his own mess.
George comes back at him, accusing Dean of thinking that he’s a fool, and then admits that he was a fool by calling the demon ten years ago. When Dean asks why he did it, George replies that he was weak and that everybody wants to be worth something.

George- All a person wants is to be worth something. Be good at something.
Dean- Was it worth it?
George- Hell no. Course, I asked for talent. Shoulda gone for fame. I’m still broke and lonely—Just, now I got a pile of paintings no one wants. And a burnin need to paint all the time. (then quietly) But that wasn’t the worst.

It’s evident that George is already drunk and fast becoming drunker.

Sam (gently)- Go on.
George- Demon didn’t leave. Stayed at Joe’s a week. Chattin. Makin deals. I tried to warn people, but whose gonna listen to an old drunk?
Sam- How many others?
George- Architect, that doctor lady. . .I kept up with them. They been in the papers. At least they got famous.

As the brothers realize that soon George will be too drunk to carry on intelligible conversation, Sam urges him to think of who else spoke to the demon. George mentions a man named Hudson, and then reverts back to his rant about nobody being able to save them because they brought this upon themselves. He tells the brothers that he just “wants to take his medicine” and that he’s got lots of tricks, pointing to a braid of herbs on the table and two red mojo bags hanging over the doorway. He claims that the two bags are called Devil’s Bit mojo bags and that if the demon comes through that it will hold it for a “a hot minute”. As Dean and Sam try to convince him that they can save him, George is hearing none of it, instead choosing to wallow in self-deprecating misery as he tells the Winchesters to leave.

We find Dean at Joe’s Bar, at the dirt crossroads, during the day. It would seem that the Winchesters have hatched a plan to deal with the problem and that the eldest Winchester has taken the time to summon the female demoness, as we see her step to him with a smile.

Demon- I’m so glad you called.

(Dean takes half a step backwards, smiling back. The whole scenario looks like a flirtation dance, between two professionals.)

Dean- I’m just glad it worked.
Demon- (teasing) First time?
Dean- You could say that. . .
Demon- Oh, come on, don’t sell yourself short. (stepping closer) I know all about you Dean Winchester.

Dean reacts with surprise at hearing his name and his smile falters, he steps back again but then switches his infamous charm back on.

Dean- Well, don’t keep me in suspense, what have you heard?
Demon (sidling up to him in a seductive manner)- I heard you were handsome, but you’re just. . . .edible. What can I do for you, Dean?
Dean (deliberately scanning the area)- Maybe we should do this in my car, nice and private.
Demon- Sounds good to me.

As the demon and Dean walk they speak casually as Dean tells her the deal that he has in mind. He tells her that he wants to strike a deal to release Evan Hudson from his contract, but the demon refuses, telling him that Evan Hudson is non negotiable. As Dean informs her that he’ll make it worth her while he offers himself in Evan Hudson’s place. As this turn of events seems to take the demon off guard a private smile crosses over her face.

Demon- Well, well, well. (then) Like father, like son.

As we go off Dean’s shocked expression as the demon confirms his worst fear, we go to Evan Hudson’s study where he stands in the center of a circle, completely losing it. From Evan’s point of view the room is shaky, filled with the sounds of snarling and barking everywhere. He sees huge darting animal shadows in the doorway, coming right at him, and he sees a monstrous figure. The figure is Sam, but not Sam, facial features floating away from each other in a representation of evil. Sam instructs Evan to stay in the circle as the room tilts nauseatingly.

We return to where Dean is as the demon smirks at his discomfort. She mocks him, stating that he didn’t know about the deal that his father made for his life, and Dean steels himself and gets with the program. He reaches the passenger side door of the Impala and jerks it open and tensely gestures for her to enter. As she makes a comment about him being a gentleman, she spots the single arc of white chalk just visible under the Impala, hinting at a hidden drawing on the ground. She freezes and turns to him angrily.

Demon- You’ve got to be kidding me. A Devil’s Trap?

Dean doesn’t have a quick comeback to that, he’s been caught red handed as the demon goes on to call him stupid, stating that she could have helped him. Dean tries to smooth things over but she tells him that he blew it, not only for Evan Hudson but for himself, and as Dean wonders what she means by her statement that she could have given him what he needs she goes on to tell him that she could have given him his father. Dean stands steadily as he looks the demon in the eye, but she has hit a nerve with him and she knows it.

Demon- He’s all you can think about. You wake up and your first thought is “I can’t do this anymore.” You’re lit up with pain. It hurts so bad you think that it might be easier to just die.
(Dean tries to keep eye contact but has to look away because she’s absolutely right)
Demon- And the worst part is—You don’t even know.
Dean- Know what?
Demon- Where your dad is now.

Dean is obviously stricken and he can’t hide it. The revelations are too much to take.

Demon- People talk about hell, they paint a cute picture, but the real thing? Not even close. If you could see your poor daddy. . .if you could hear him, the sounds he makes cuz he can’t even scream. . .you’d never have pulled a stunt like this. I could have brought him back for you.

As Dean can’t hide how hard she just hit him she tells him goodbye, wishing him a long life, as Dean asks her to wait. She walks away as Dean is shattered by what she just told him and he walks to a nearby picnic table with difficulty, slumping down onto it and burying his face in his hands.

We return to Evan’s study, leaving Dean alone in a broken world for the next few minutes, as Evan is so freaked out he can barely comprehend where he is. Sam is physically holding him inside of the circle as Evan fights against him in terror. Invisible claws rip through a nearby chair as pictures fall off the wall and shatter. It’s total chaos in the room as Sam wishes for Dean to hurry under his breath. Just then curtains are torn from the walls, taking the curtain rod with it, and the thing crashes through the window as it shatters into a million pieces.

We return to Dean as the demon looks over her shoulder to see Dean sitting there, utterly defeated. He doesn’t even look up as she turns around and approaches him to stand over him.

Demon- Oh, Dean.
(Dean looks at her struggling to get composure)
Demon (gently)- You didn’t call me here to bargain for Evan. Not really.
(Dean looks away, pained)
Dean (hesitantly)- So. . .could you really bring him back?
(The demon sits beside him, switching over into pure, sweet, saleswoman mode)
Demon- Of course I can. Just as he was. The way you dream him.
Dean- I don’t know. . .
Demon- He’ll live a natural life, the way he was supposed to. And you—you’ll have ten years with him before your time’s up. That’s a lifetime, Dean.

Dean nods and considers this. He stands up and the demon goes to follow, but she can’t. She’s stuck. She warningly calls Dean’s name as realization dawns on her and we see from a new angle that Dean has drawn a red X under the bench seat, placing four mojo bags like the ones in George’s doorway from each point of the X. It would seem that Dean has been baiting her all along, and the in spite of his pain he still has his wits about him, always the smart and savvy hunter before the emotional son.

Demon- How the hell did you—
(Dean gives her a hard smile)
Dean- What—how’d I know about Devil’s Bit mojo bags? I’m big into research. Worked better than I thought—Boy, you’re really stuck.
Demon- Let. Me up. Now.
Dean- Sure. Soon as you let Evan go.
Demon- I can’t break a binding contract.
Dean- And by “can’t” you mean “don’t want to.”
Demon- Dean. Let’s talk about this.
Dean- You know what? (he pulls out a rosary and holy water) I’m sick of talking.
Demon (worried)- What are you doing?
Dean- Sending you back to hell, lady.
Demon (quickly)- Forget Evan. Think of your dad.

Dean stops and thinks a moment then gets his head back in the game and begins chanting in Latin as the demon lets out an unearthly shriek.

We return to Evan’s study, as the shattered window showers the room with glass and Sam wraps his arms in his sweatshirt, the topmost of his customary many layers, using the fabric to shield Evan and himself. As pandemonium ensues around the room, the broken window lets in a draft and the Goofer Dust begins to blow away with the wind as Sam realizes that the circle is not going to hold.

We return to the crossroads as Dean continues his exorcism, playing in Sam’s shoes for awhile as he chants in Latin over the demon. She writhes in pain, yelling at him to stop and Dean pauses, dangling his rosary threateningly. She tells him in breathless pain that she will do it, anything that he wants, and he tells her to free Evan. We close off the demon’s furious and conflicted look.

Ep. 02.09 Croatoan

In this episode we are not completely sure what our ghost busting duo are facing but if the title is any indication we can be somewhat sure that they are facing possibly the same thing that wiped out the Roanoke colony back in 1590, seeing as how the only clue of the settlements disappearance lies in a word carved in a tree, Croatoan.

To start off we see Sam and Dean rushing into a medical clinic with an injured woman, one Beverly Tanner. Following Sam and Mrs. Tanner is Dean carrying a bloody sheet wrapped body. We find out that the body is Mr. Tanner who, with the help of his son Jake, attacked his wife in a fit of violence. We found out later that apparently Dean shot Mr. Tanner in the middle of it all, but Sam flaked out on shooting the son, much to Dean’s chagrin.

Dean and Sam begin deliberating on what the cause of the sudden need for crazed violence could have been caused by.

Sam: What are you thinking? Multiple demons, mass possession...?
Dean: (nods) And if they were possessed, could be more. God knows how many. Could be a friggin' Shriner convention. (then) That's one way to wipe out a town. Take it over from the inside.
(Sam is clearly doubtful.)
Sam: I don't know. We didn't see demon smoke with Tanner... or any of the usual signs.
Dean: Whatever. Something in him made him a monster. (off Sam's look) If you'd taken down the other one, there'd be one less to worry about.
Sam: (a bit troubled by Dean's itchy trigger finger) Sorry. I hesitated. It was a kid.
Dean: No, it was an IT.

Dr. Lee walks up and we find out that the Tanners were her neighbors, and that Mrs. Tanner is not doing too well. The phones and radios are down and the closest town is forty miles away. After a bit more discussion, Dean leaves Sam with the Doctor and the mystery in order to go get help.

On his way out of town, Dean sees something ahead that makes him stop. It is an abandoned family sedan in the middle of the road. The wheels and windows have been shot out, the doors are open, and the engine is still running. Dean grabs his trusty shotgun to check it out. He peers into the car and sees that it looks like a mad artist went to work splashing red paint all over the car. It is all over the front seat, the back seat, and even in the child's booster seat. But there are no bodies. Even our hardened, emotionally challenged ghost hunter grimaces at the signs of what should have been mass carnage but is instead a bucket’s worth of human blood. Then he is disturbed even further as he spots a bloody knife on the ground.

We come back to Sammy and Dr. Lee in the medical clinic. Dr. Lee is using a small back room as a temporary morgue. Mr. Tanner is lying on the table with a white sheet covering his lower half as Dr. Lee examines a blood sample. She seems a little perplexed by what she sees.

Dr. Lee: His white blood cell count's spiked pretty high. His body was fighting off a major viral infection.
Sam: What kind of virus?
Dr. Lee: Can't say for sure. I'd need an electron microscope.
Sam: You think an infection could've made him act like that?
Dr. Lee: None that I've heard of. I mean, some cause dementia, but not that level of aggression. And besides, I've never heard of one that does this to the blood.
Sam: Does what?
Dr. Lee: Well, in all his blood -- there's a weird residue... if I didn’t know any better...I'd say it was sulphur.

After the not so shocking revelation of demons afoot, we go back to Dean heading to Sidewinder. As he rounds the bend he sees yet another sight that makes him stop in his tracks. This time, it is a blockade of the bridge some distance ahead. There are three cars and half a dozen men armed with hunting rifles.

With a missing gap of time in there, we find ourselves back with the brothers of ghostbusting legend. Apparently, Sam and Dean have been reunited and Sam has had a vision about a man who can help. We come upon them walking the main street of Rivergrove. Sam sees a man, Mark Vargo, sitting at a small table on the porch of the Bait Store. Sam reveals that the man in his vision was on the porch. Dean and Sam walk up to the tough looking man and introduce themselves.

Dean: ...Morning...
Vargo: Morning. Can I help you?
(Vargo seems to be very nice and all smiles...until Dean shows him his badge.)
Dean: Billy Gibbons, this is Frank Beard...U.S. Marshals...
Vargo: What's this about?
Dean: We're looking for someone.
Sam: A young man, early-20's...(we see a memory of Sam's earlier vision of a man identified as Duane. Duane is terrified, looking up at Dean as he loads the pistol...)...has a thin scar, just below his hairline...(a white-line of scar tissue runs down from Duane's hairline...)

Vargo is clearly protecting this Duane guy and Dean and Sam try to assure him that Duane is not in any trouble that they just want to talk to him. Vargo is not convinced with the Winchester's charade. Dean notices an old tattoo on Vargo's forearm. It is a Marine tattoo with Master Sergeant insignia. Dean explains that his dad was a Lance Corporal in the 1st platoon of the 2nd Battalion in Echo Company. This seems to win Vargo over just a bit. He tells them that Duane Tanner is the one they are looking for and where to find him.

Moments later, as Dean and Sam are walking back to the car, Sam spots something of interest on a wooden pole that bothers the more sensitive brother. It is a single word of historical and mythical legend.

Dean: "Croatoan?"
Sam: Roanoke? The Lost Colony? (Dean has no clue what Sam is talking about) Pay any attention in History Class?
Dean: (Defensive) Sure. The shot heard around the world. How bills are made.
Sam: That's not school. That's School House Rock.
Dean: Whatever.

Next we find the youngest Winchester back at the Medical clinic with Dr. Lee and Mrs. Tanner. Mrs. Tanner and Dr. Lee are talking, trying to help each other unravel the mystery of what is going on in the little town that just took the highway into Strangeville. Then all of a sudden, Mrs. Tanner attacks Dr. Lee. Sam tries to restrain Mrs. Tanner but is conveniantly unarmed. Mrs. Tanner throws Sam across the room with superhuman strength. Then she grabs a scalpel and rushes Sam. Sam manages to knock the woman unconscious barely saving his own skin.

Now we get to see just where Dean was during this little altercation. He is driving through town, just checking things out, when all of a sudden Vargo steps out into the middle of the road aiming a rifle at Dean. The Impala skids to a stop as Vargo orders Dean out of the car. Dean gets out but not before grabbing a handgun off of the passenger's seat. Now we have ourselves an old fashioned Mid Western standoff.

Dean: Put it down!
Vargo: (at the same time) Lower it!! Now!!
Dean: You one of 'em?!
Vargo: No! Are you?!
Dean: No!
Vargo: You could be lying!
Dean: So could you! (Dean interrupts the standoff by raising his left hand) Alright. This could go on all day. Let's just chill out, try not to kill each other for a second, okay?
Both men lower their aim slightly but still don't trust each other.
Vargo: What's going on with everybody??
Dean: I don't know.
Vargo: My...my neighbor...Mr. Rogers--
Dean: You have a neighbor named Mr. Rogers?
Vargo: Not anymore. He came at me with a hatchet. I...I put him down. He wasn't the only one. It's happening to everyone...
Dean: Look. I'm heading to the Doc's place. There's some people left.
Vargo: No way. I'm getting the hell out.
Dean: There's no getting out. They've covered the bridge. Now come on...
Vargo: I don't believe you -- (he raises his aim again)
Dean: Then stay here. Be my guest.
Vargo finally circles around the Impala, climbing in and keeping his aim. They are both inside the car with their weapons pointed at each other. How cozy.
Dean: This'll be a relaxing drive.

Meanwhile back at the clinic, a nurse whose name is Pam is obviously distraught. She begins to get hysterical, and it seems like Dr. Lee can’t control her nurse.

That night in the medical clinic, we find Sam has been injured, maybe from Pam's hysterics, we don't know. Dean, Vargo, and Duane are all there along with Dr. Lee.

Dean: Doctor, check his wound, would you? (the doctor doesn't move) Doctor. (she finally snaps out of it and retrieves a pair of latex gloves.)
Vargo: What does she need to examine him for, you saw what happened...
(Sam has a gash across his chest.)
Dr. Lee: (to Sam) Did her blood actually enter your wound?
Vargo: Come on. Of course it did!
Dean: We don't know for sure!
Duane: We can't take a chance!
Vargo: You know what we have to do...
Dean Nobody is going to shoot my brother!
Duane: He's not gonna be your brother much longer. You said it yourself --
Dean: Nobody's. Shooting. Anybody.
Duane: You were gonna shoot me!
Dean: You don't shut you gob, maybe I still will!
Sam: Dean. They're right. I'm infected. (everyone looks at Sam for a tense moment) Give me the gun. I'll do it myself.
Dean: Forget it.
Sam: It's the right thing to do.
Dean: No. No. There's time --
Vargo: (stepping up, clenching his rifle) Time for what?? (pauses) Look. I understand. He's your brother. And I'm sorry, I am. But I've gotta take care of this.
Dean: (blocking his way with fire in his eyes) I'm only gonna say this once. You move on him, you'll be dead before you hit the floor. Trust me.
Sam: Dean!
Vargo: Then what are we supposed to do??
(Dean reaches into his pocket and pulls out his car keys and tosses them to Vargo.)
Dean: You all get the hell out, that's what. Take my car. You got the explosives, and there's an arsenal in the trunk. (to Dr. Lee and Duane) You two go with the sergeant. He ought to have enough fire power now to handle anything...
Vargo: What about you?
(Dean gives Vargo a solemn look that clearly states that he is staying, which upsets Sammy. While Vargo and Duane are getting ready to leave, Dean and Sam have a private little talk.)
Sam: Dean, no -- go with them. It's your only chance.
Dean: (gives Sam a "don't-mess-with-me" look) Not getting rid of me that easy...
Vargo: He's right. Come with us... (reads Dean's look) Okay. Your funeral.
(Duane leaves, followed by Vargo and last, but not least, Dr. Lee. She gives Dean and Sam a sad and solemn look.)
Dr. Lee: I'm sorry. Thanks for everything, Marshals.
Dean: Oh. We're not really Marshals.
Dr. Lee: Um. Oh.
Dr. Lee closes the door and Dean barricades it behind her, leaving him alone with his little brother who seems destined to die.

Ep 2.10 Hunted

In this episode we find that Sam and Dean have separated, for unknown reasons, and Sam stumbles across yet another psychically gifted young adult, a recurring theme with the show.

In the opening scene we come upon the youngest Winchester stepping into a room. His eyes widen with alarm as he notices that he just snagged a trip wire. There is an explosion and Sam is blown apart. Literally. He is vaporized into red mist, disintegrating completely. Only Sam's charred shoe is left. It would seem that Sam Winchester is dead.

We close on a pretty 23 year old girl, Ava Wilson, as her eyes snap open and she sits up in her bed. She seems to be recovering from a painful migraine and we realize that Sam's death was her vision. Beside her, her fiancé, Brady, wakes up and asks if she is okay. She assures him that she is fine. While he drifts back off, she lies in the dark wide awake, still troubled.

We skip ahead and find Sam, alone, with Dean nowhere in sight. Some one is closing in on him from behind when suddenly Sam spins and grabs the person behind him. The perpetrator is none other than Ava and she imparts on him the news that he is in danger after she gets over her initial shock. Sam, believing her, takes her back to his motel room where they can talk.
In the motel room we watch Sam as he watches Ava pacing the room. She is the “girl next door” type; sweet, smart, and currently very nervous. She informs him that she has been having dreams like Sam does for about a year, and that she had a dream about Sam dying.

Sam: I don't believe it.
Ava: (trys to gauge Sam's reaction) I know. You think I'm a total nutjob.
Sam: No. I mean, you must be one of us.
Ava: (frowns) Um. One of...who?
Sam: (excited) I have visions, too, Ava. I'm a psychic, too. We're connected, you and me.
Ava: You're nuts.

We cut to Dean in the Impala alone. There is still no explanation for Sam’s absence, but as he sits minus the book-smart younger Winchester his cell phone rings and it is Ellen on the other end.

Dean: Hey. Have you heard from Sam?
Ellen: I have. But...he made me promise not to tell you where he is.
Dean: Ellen, please--
Ellen: Dean. They say you gotta let your loved ones go. Can't protect 'em forever. (then) Well. I say screw that. What else is family for? (then) He's in Lafayette, Indiana. (A/N: Yay for Ellen. LOL.)

We leave Dean’s discovery of his brother’s whereabouts and return to Sam and Ava, still holed up in his motel room.

Ava: So if you're so psychic, why didn't you see your own death?
Sam: I don't know. I've never had premonitions about myself before.
Ava: This is crazy...
Sam: Hey. You tracked me down, 'cause you saw me die in a dream. I'd say we're miles past "crazy." (Ava gives him a look. He does have a point) So... I died in an abandoned house?
Ava: Yeah. Some kind of bomb or something.
Sam: What'd my killer look like?
Ava: I don't know.
Sam: Was it human?!
Ava: What the hell else would it be?! (then) Actually, you know what? Don't answer that, I don't wanna know. (beat) Look. Can you just leave town, please, before you blow up?
Sam: No. I can't
Ava: Oh God. Why not?
Sam: Something's going on here, Ava. With you. Me. There's others like us too. We're all...we're all a part of something. I gotta figure out what.
Ava: (she has reached her limit. She's scared and confused) You know what-- F you buddy! I'm a secretary from Peoria! I'm not part of anything! (holds up her hand, flashing an engagement ring.) See this? I'm supposed to be getting married in eight weeks. I should be addressing invitations, which I'm way behind on, by the way... instead, I drove out here to save your weirdo a**! (storms across the room and grabs her purse off the table) But if you wanna stay here and die-- fine. Me, I'm due back on planet Earth. (heads for the door)
Sam: (calls after her) Don't you wanna know why this is happening? These visions, don't they scare the hell out of you? (Ava stops) You walk outta here right now, you might never know the truth. (Ava turns back slowly. She's scared but Sam's right, she needs to know.) I'm gonna get to the bottom of this. But I need your help.

With some missing pieces of the jigsaw puzzle in between we cut to a man whom we know as Dr. Waxler sitting in an armchair in his office, smiling at someone we can’t see. Apparently, Sam and Ava went Bonnie and Clyde on the doctor and we find them returning to the motel room. Sam has a file in his hand, the equivalent of a stolen necklace, and Ava is flushed and wide eyed with excitement.

Sam: You okay?
He sits down and looks through the file labeled S. Krell (the first man Ava dreamed about, in which she found that she wasn’t crazy and the man actually died exactly the way she had dreamed, thus launching her to save dear Sammy when she dreamed of his death). There are several mini cassettes inside.
Ava: Am I okay? I just helped you steal some dead guy's confidential psych files... (Smiling) I'm awesome!
Sam: (looks up at her, she's giddy and grinning from ear to ear.) You're serious?
Ava: Oh my God, I felt like I was in "The Sting". That was the most fun I've had in my life!
Sam: (raises an eyebrow) Huh.
Ava: What?
Sam: Nothing. It's just... you're getting married in two months, and this is the most fun you've ever had?
Ava's smile fades, he's right.

Ep 2.11 Plaything

In this episode Sam and Dean are investigating an old, run down motel in Cornwall, Connecticut. The motel seems to have been around since before the 1940’s and is now being sold by the current owner, a woman in her thirties named Susan Thompson.

In the opening scene we see the motel, actually a dilapidated mansion, with a beat up wooden sign advertising vacancy in the Cornwall Inn. A Goodwill truck is parked out front. Inside the motel lobby we see that the motel was once beautiful but is now falling apart and the Victorian era décor is shabby with sepia toned photos of people on the walls, giving the place an air of the definite creeps rather than comfort. With it being the off-season for tourism the place is quiet and pretty deserted.

We see Susan head up the grand staircase with a man named Larry, the burly Goodwill worker to whom the truck parked out front belongs to. She leads him up the stairs as he comments on how he can’t believe that she is selling the place and that his grandparents and his parents both got engaged at the motel. Susan experiences an evident pang of regret as she replies to him that a lot of people did, then tells him that the boxes are at the end of the hall. Larry passes two young girls on his way, Tyler Thompson, age 9, and Margaret, age 10. Both girls sit on the floor of the upper landing with their feet dangling through stairway bars.

(Tyler looks up at her mother pleadingly)

Tyler: He’s gonna take our toys?
Susan: Only the ones you don’t play with anymore. And it’s not like you don’t have enough already—
Margaret: (quietly) Son of a b***h.
Tyler: (louder) Son of a b***h!
Susan: Watch your mouth.
Tyler: Margaret said it first.
Susan: (she heads down the stairs) You watch your mouth, too, Margaret.

We go to the interior of the Thompson’s apartment, and see dolls everywhere, their blank, glassy eyes staring all around the room. There are porcelain dolls, wooden dolls, cloth dolls, filling the shelves and cabinets around the room. Somebody went to a lot of trouble collecting all these dolls. There are a few other old fashioned toys around the room, but we are drawn to look at one in particular, an exact replica in the shape of a dollhouse of the motel.

We leave the two young girls and their room full of creepy dolls to find Sam and Dean in the middle of discussing their latest case.

Sam: I’m not so sure “haunted’s” the problem.
Dean: What makes you say that?
(Sam points to a decorative pottery urn by the door)
Sam: This pattern here?

He points at the urn and we see a black X carved into the urn, with five red circles, one in the center and four at the end of each line.

Sam: It’s a ‘quincunx’. Five spot.
Dean: (rings a bell) Oh, yeah. Used in hoodoo spellwork, right?
Sam: Fill this thing with sticks of bloodweed. . .you got a powerful charm. To ward off enemies.
Dean: Yeah, except I’m not seeing any bloodweed. And I don’t know, isn’t this joint a little. . .white meat. . .for hoodoo?
Sam:. . . .Maybe.
(off Sam checking out the urn)

As we leave the brothers we see Susan in the Cornwall Inn lobby at the front desk with a pompous man in his forties, dressed up in a suit and tie. His name is Robert Carlton and he surveys the inn with condescension. He tells Susan that the place needs a lot of work and as Dean and Sam enter, with Dean carrying a shoulder strap duffle bag, Susan appears glad to get away from Robert.
They tell her they want to a room for a few nights as the girls, Tyler and Margaret, come dashing through the room. Tyler bumps into Sam and they run up the stairs, giggling. As Susan apologizes for their behavior she goes behind the front desk to check them in.

Susan: So lemme guess. You guys are here antiquing?
Dean: How’d you know?
Susan: You just look the type. So. . .a king size bed?
Dean: What? No. Two singles. We’re brothers.
Susan: Oh. I’m so sorry.
Dean: Wait, what do you mean “we look the type?”

Sam steps in and puts a credit card on the front desk, waylaying an oncoming awkward moment.

Sam: Speaking of antiques, that’s an interesting urn on your front porch. Where’d you get it?
Susan: Oh, I have no idea. It’s been there forever. (she checks the credit card) Here you are, Mr. Mahoggoff.

Susan rings the service bell and an older man, in his sixties, a lifer bellman named Sherwin, appears to lead Sam and Dean to their room.

We then skip to Dean and Sam having a discussion about what they believe is really going on at the motel, although what that may be is left to guesswork.

Dean: (figuring out what Sam is getting at) So there’s a connection. They were both involved with shutting down the place.
Sam: So maybe someone here doesn’t want to leave. And so they’re using that hoodoo that you-do.
Dean: My God. That your idea of being funny?
Sam: F. O, dude.
Dean: So who you got down for witch doctor? That Susan lady, at the front desk?
Sam: Doesn’t seem like it. She’s the one selling the place.
Dean: (even more doubtful) Old Sherwin?
Sam: (doesn’t have an answer). . . Let’s look around.

The two brothers head for the door; exploring they will go. They go into the hallway and Sam spots an urn on a rickety table outside a door, just like the one they found on the front porch. He points out to Dean that it’s more hoodoo and Dean acknowledges this fact by knocking on the closed door that the urn rests near. Susan, looking harried and surprised at their visit, answers and asks them if everything is okay with their room. They answer quickly, trying to find a way into the room, and tell her that everything is fine but as Susan makes an attempt at a quick exit line by telling them that she’s packing Dean cuts in with a line about her window frame, which he spotted through the open door.

Dean: Wow, what an awesome window frame. It looks almost. . .Carthaginian. Is there any chance we could come in and take a look?
(Susan hesitates, she’s really very busy)
Sam: He’s a total freak for window frames.

She relents and lets them into the room with a smile. As they enter the room they are greeted with the many black eyed dolls, all staring at them from the shelves and cabinets around the room. The dolls are a little disconcerting, even on the verge of giving one the total heebie jeebies, and Dean tries not to show it.

Dean: (creeped out) Wow. Look at all these dolls. They’re really. . .nice. Not creepy at all.
Susan: (laughing) I suppose they are a little creepy. But they’ve been in the family forever. A lot of sentimental value—
Sam: I bet a lot of cash value, too.
Susan: Maybe. That never mattered much to us. Toys are meant to be played with, you know.
(Dean has been inspecting the large dollhouse)
Dean: What is this, the hotel?
Susan: That’s right. Exact replica. Custom built, in 1945.

Dean spots something on the dollhouse main lobby floor and picks it up. The doll, named Herbert for whatever reason, has his head twisted around at an 180 degree angle. Dean points this out and Susan says that her daughter, Tyler, most likely did it. Just then Tyler yells for her mother off-screen. The young girl claims that Margaret is being mean to her, and Dean takes this opportunity to ask Tyler is she wants him to fix her broken doll. Tyler insists that she didn’t break the doll, that she found it the way that it is, and that she or Margaret would never break the dolls because they wouldn’t want to make Grandma mad. Susan tells her daughter that Grandma wouldn’t be mad, but now the Winchester’s curiousity has been piqued.

Sam: Grandma?
Tyler: Grandma Rose. These were all her toys, when she was a girl.
Sam: And where is she, right now?
(Tyler points to the side door)
Tyler: (solemn) In her room.

The brothers throw each other a look then Sam turns to Susan, evidently trying to find a way to speak to the mysterious grandmother that Tyler claims is in her room.

Sam: I’d love to talk to Rose about these dol—
Susan: (sharply) No. (then she softens) . . .I’m afraid that’s impossible. My mother’s been very sick. She’s not taking visitors.

Both brothers eye Susan with new suspicion. Was that a hint of menace? They leave the Thompson’s apartment and return to the hallway, speaking again of the case that just keeps getting deeper in mystery.

Dean: So. . .what do you think? Dolls? Hoodoo? Spooky, mysterious, shut-in grandma?
Sam: There is a ton of lore—dolls used in hoodoo and voodoo, for curses, binding spells.
Dean: Alright. I’ll ask around, see what I can dig up about Granny. (then) Check on-line, old obits. Freak accidents, that kind of thing. Maybe she’s whacked people before.

As they split up, Dean turns back to his brother.

Dean: And don’t just go look at porn, either.
Sam: Bite me.

We skip back to the brothers, who have apparently come to the conclusion that they need to speak to the shut in and mysterious Grandma Rose. When they knock on the apartment door they receive no answer forthcoming, and therefore, being the Winchesters, they pick the lock. Inside the room the dolls seem to stare at them almost malevolently, in a way that only dolls can do, and they enter the side door to Rose’s room. The day beyond is gray and rainy, but after a moment they can see the shape of an old woman sitting bundled in blankets by the window.

As the boys come forward rather nervously we see that the only thing showing that Grandma Rose is still among the living are her eyes, frozen wide and open, staring terrified at the world beyond her. The boys are startled by her unnerving eyes, which follow their every move. Dean tells her that they are sorry to bother her and the only answer he receives is Rose appearing to be more frightened. They step back to speak quietly amongst themselves.

Dean: She must’ve had a stroke.
Sam: She could be faking it.
Dean: (no ******** way) Yeah, right. You wanna poke her with a stick, go ahead.
Sam: (nods, then) For a hoodoo spell, you gotta mix herbs, chant, make an altar. . .it’s a hands on thing.
Dean: It can’t be her. But then who?
Sam: (frustrated) I don’t know. Maybe it’s not even hoodoo—

They are interrupted by Susan entering the room, evidently furious at their intrusion. She demands that they leave her hotel at once or she’s calling the police and won’t hear any of their arguments. It would seem that even if Rose could speak at the moment, they aren’t going to get any answers from her now.

We see Susan watching as the brothers leave the motel in the Impala, then she turns back inside to where Tyler and Margaret are playing jacks on the motel lobby floor.

Susan: Have you started packing yet?
Tyler: No.
Susan: Why not?
Tyler: I don’t wanna move.
Susan: (trying to be patient) Yes, I know. But we have to.
Tyler: Margaret says we’re not allowed to move.
Margaret: Yeah.
(Susan’s had it, she snaps)
Susan: Tyler, enough! Margaret’s imaginary. You’re too old to have an imaginary friend and I’m done pretending!

Susan storms off into the dining room and we see Margaret turn to Tyler.

Margaret: I don’t like her.

episode 2.12 Night Shifter

EXT. Trailer Park—Night

Sam and Dean are sporting suits and ties as they step onto the porch of busted double-wide trailer. Sam knocks on the screen door and calls out the trailer owner’s name—a Mr. Ronald Reznick.

There’s no answer initially but then a floodlight kicks on from above, blinding the boys for a second. Ronald appears behind the door. He’s in his late forties, and basically a big gruff dude. His greeting all but consists of a grunt.

Sam holds up a badge and tells Ronald that he’s FBI. Ronald tells Sam that he wants to see the badge and Sam presses it against the screen door. Ronald looks it over then tells the boys that he’s already given his statement to the police.

Dean chimes in telling Ronald that there were some details in the statement they’d like some clarification on. Ronald asks if Dean’s actually read the report and Dean lies straight through his teeth and tells the man that he sure did.

Ronald questions the boys, wondering if they are actually going to come in and listen to what he has to say. Dean reassures him by saying that’s exactly why they are there, and we see a noticeable change in Ronald’s demeanor, more surprised as he opens the door to let the boys in.

INT. Ronald’s Trailer—night

Sam and Dean are following Ronald through his trailer as the man rambles on. He tells the boys that none of the cops every called him back especially after he told them what was really going on ‘cause they all thought he was crazy.

They come to a stop at Ronald’s base of operations. Basically it’s a room where the walls are plastered with city maps, documents, and newspaper clippings eerily similar to the Winchester Research Special. Tons of books and papers compete with beer empties in Ronald’s small headquarters and the brothers take it all in slowly. Crazy probably isn’t the right word for this guy….

As the boys look around Ronald starts filling them in. He tells them that first off a Juan Morales never robbed the Milwaukee National Trust as originally thought. He digs through a stack of papers as he tells the boys that he and Juan were friends and that Juan used to come back to the bank on his night shift and they’d play cards.

Sam quickly picks up on that fact, and states that Ronald let this man into the bank after hours. Ronald shakes his head and says that the thing he let into the bank wasn’t Juan. It might’ve looked like Juan, and talked like him, but it wasn’t Juan.

Ronald stops digging through the stacks and looks up, his eyes filled with paranoia and in a raspy whisper as if the walls themselves are listening the man continues. He tells the brothers that this thing…it had Juan’s face, but at the same time it wasn’t his face. Every detail was so perfect, it was almost too much so like as if a doll maker had pieced it together. The thing was just one big Juan doll.

Sam repeats the Juan doll analogy just as Ronald finds what he was looking for, an older newspaper with a headline that read “Woman kills guard, self, in jewelry store heist.” Under it is a phone of a woman named Helena. Ronald passes the article to Dean.

Ronald tells the boys that this time with Juan it wasn’t the first time something like this had happened. Another bank was hit a while back and a jewelry store. He states though that the cops and the Feds just won’t see it and stalk off to a far wall, telling the boys that all three crimes were pulled by the same thing.

Sam asks what exactly Ronald thinks that is, and the man turns and picks up a copy of Fortean Times with a picture of a robot on the cover and shoves it into Sam’s hands. Ronald goes on to tell Sam that the Chinese have been working on them for years and the Russians before that—these things are part man, part machine.

As Ronald drones on, Sam gives Dean a ‘this guy is off his rocker’ look but Dean’s eating it all up and playing along with the whole thing. When Ronald compares this thing to the Terminator, only the kind that can change itself and make itself look like other people, Dean’s right on it with a immediate reference to T2 (Terminator 2)

Sam gives Dean a look, but Ronald’s nodding like crazy and tells Dean that’s exactly what he means. Its not just a robot…its more of a Mandroid. Dean repeats the newly dubbed term and its evident he really likes the sound of it.

Sam on the other hand has seen enough crazy for one night. But not Dean, he asks what makes Ronald so sure its these Mandroid things. Ronald replies that its all on tape and starts rummaging for it. Dean and Sam exchange curious glances.

A black and white surveillance video fills the screen and we see the bank’s interior on fast forward. Ronald in his uniform whips in and out of the frame. The shot pulls back and we see Ronald chatting quickly as he fast forwards the tape. Sam and Dean watch on, cramped together on an old couch.

Ronald tells the boys that he’s made copies of all the security tapes. He knew once the cops got involved they’d be buried. He yells out a here and slows the screen down to normal speed and we watch as Ronald opens the bank’s front door and lets Juan Morales into the bank. The two men exchange words then Juan follows Ronald towards the camera.

Ronald tells the boys to watch him…and to look at that. We see as Juan nears the camera and looks up for a second his eyes glow eerily. Ronald declares the ‘doll’ Juan has laser eyes and the Winchesters are more than just stunned. The boys trade glances—they know what Ronald’s onto.

Ronald says that the cops dubbed it as reflected light, some kind of camera flare, but then grabs the jewelry clipping again and heads to his wall. He’s kind of half-talking to the boys, half-muttering to himself at this point as he says it ain’t a damn camera flare. And that no matter what the post-trauma case thing is all about it doesn’t matter, and seeing as the bank fired him cause of it that Mandroid is still out there. He mutters that if the law won’t take care of it, then he’ll just have to do it himself.

As he continues to talk, he staples the jewelry store clipping on the wall, next to his slew of other headlines. He says that this thing kills the real person and makes it look like a suicide. Then it morphs into the person it killed and then uses the skin until it knows it can take the money, or jewelry and seizes the opportunity.

Dean eyes Sam, in the ‘man this guy knows his stuff’ kind of way but Sam merely frowns as Ronald makes his way to a city map with 3 red circles etched around the robbery locations.

Ronald informs the boys that all these robberies were grouped together. So he figures that this Mandroid is holed up in the middle possibly underground which is prolly where it recharges its batteries.

Sam stands abruptly, and Dean follows suit. Sam is all business—government style. He tells Ronald to listen carefully and that he’s going to tell him the god’s truth about all of this. Ronald listens intently, glad someone is going to level with him, but Sam informs him that there is no such thing as “mandroids”. And nothing evil or inhuman is going on out there. It’s all just people.

Its clear that Dean doesn’t like pulling the rug on this guy, and partly likes this guy—or at the very least feels for him. Ronald protests and goes on about the laser eyes but Sam intervenes and states the it was just a camera flare and that it was Juan who robbed the bank.

Dean blinks startled at the bluntness and Ronald all but snarls, teeth clenched in anger. The man’s furious as he tells the boys to get out of his house but Sam says they will but there are something they need to take care of first.

INT. Motel Room—night

The walls of the motel are starting to look a lot like Ronald’s as Dean tacks a sheet of tracing paper up, over Ronald’s city map. Sam feeds a tape into the motel’s VCR and starts fast-forwarding through the mounds of footage searching out Juan’s glowing eyes. Dean laughs as he works, but there’s a hint of annoyance under the expression.

He tells Sam that what he’s doing right now has got to be the kicker. Seeing as younger brother all but told poor Ronald that he needed to “remand” the tapes and that they are “classified evidence in an ongoing investigation”.

Sam asks if Dean’s pissed at him, and Dean replies that its just creepy just how good Sam is at playing a Fed. He doesn’t understand why they couldn’t through the man a bone seeing as he totally knew something was up. And Sam has to admit that Ronald did his homework.

Sam scoffs and brings up the Mandroid, which Dean simply replies that particular part doesn’t count.

Random Scene---Bank?

Dean and Sam are watching the video tapes and Dean says he’s got something. We see the branch manager of the bank pass a distance behind a woman, Sherri. Dean switches controls to another camera, and zooms in on the manager’s eyes. They totally glow.

The boys know they’ve got it, but then Dean catches sight of another monitor and winces audibly. Sam asks what it is and we see on the monitor the bank’s entrance with Ronald lumbering through the front door dressed in full on camo vest and carrying a huge duffle. The dude’s padlocking the front door handles.

INT Bank—main area—Day

Ronald climbs down the steps into the bank’s main area, dropping his duffle and grabbing the assault rifle from it screaming that ‘this is not a robbery!’ and fires a short shot upwards. People start screaming, panic ensues as Ronald orders everyone to the floor.

The dude’s wild-eyed as he swings the gun manically, employees and patrons scatter. Ronald screams again for everyone to get down and people hit the floor, while other take cover under the desks or behind the columns. The manager however is nowhere to be seen—it’s seen earlier where he leaves the room before Ronald enters, with the security guard in tow.

A few employees rush to the back offices passing Sam and Dean as they move slowly into the main area. Dean tells Sam that he’ll do the talking because he doesn’t think Ronald likes Sam’s “Agent Johnson” too much.

Ronald’s in the center of the main floor, yelling out orders to anyone within earshot. He’s holding a key, which he drops into a pocket on his camo vest. He tells the hostages that he’s got all the doors locked and nobody’s getting out.

He sees Sam and Dean approach. Both boys are moving cautiously, hands up in surrender. Dean tells Ronald that he needs him to just calm down, but Ronald recognizes them and tells them to get on the floor. Dean and Sam quickly obey with Dean telling Ronald not to shoot anybody. Especially them.

Ronald freaks and says that he knew they weren’t FBI and demands to know who they really are—MIB? Or working for the Mandroid?

Sam tells him that they aren’t working for the Mandroid. Ronald rushes forward, rifle on Sam. He’s only a few feet from them, body surging with adrenaline. He screams at Sam to shut up and tells him that he doesn’t like him.

Dean gives Sam an “See what’d I tell ya” look and Ronald swings his rifle over to an employee whose deathly pale and orders him to frisk the brothers down for weapons. The employee does as he’s told but doesn’t find anything, he looks at Ronald and shakes his head clearly terrified. Ronald nods and motions for the man to get back on the floor.

Dean tells Ronald that he doesn’t think Ronald wants to hurt anyone, but that’s exactly what’s going to happen if he keeps waving his gun around like that. Ronald replies by telling Dean that he told them back at the trailer—if no ones gonna stop this thing, he’s going to do it himself.

Dean tells Ronald he believes him, and that’s exactly why they are there. Ronald argues that they don’t…no one does and how the hell could they. Dean tells Ronald to come here and Ronald tells him a blatant no, but once Dean points out who has the gun, the man approaches but not close enough for Dean to attempt a jump on him.

Dean whispers low so that the employees can’t hear and informs Ronald that it’s the bank manager and that they were monitoring the cameras earlier and saw the manager---and his eyes. Ronald latches onto that fact and asks if it was the laser eyes and Dean tells him yeah, kind of but the bigger issue is that they are running out of time and they have to find him.

Ronald tells Dean that he’s not going to listen to him because Dean’s nothing but a liar, and Dean slowly gets to feet, although determined. Ronald backs up aiming the rifle at Dean’s head, shaking it with menace.

He tells Dean that he’ll shoot him if he doesn’t get down, and Sam gets ready to leap out if it comes to it. Dean says that he’s not the one Ronald wants to shoot and none of these other people are either because they aren’t a part of all this.

Dean takes a step forward, hands up, but he’s completely calm as Ronald tells him to back up. The moments tense and Ronald had Dean’s head in his sight, finger on the trigger—one wrong move and we’ll all be watching Gray’s come next Thursday. LOL

Dean asks if Ronald wants a hostage and offers himself as one. He tells Ronald to look at him, and that he believes him. Ronald isn’t crazy because something is going on.

There’s a tense silence as Ronald pulls away from the sight and nods. He tells Dean that he’s going with him but everyone else has to get in the vault.

EXT—Bank—day

One uniformed police officer walks past the bank on foot patrol, he pauses and glances in but doesn’t notice the place is under siege and keeps right on walking. But the camera pans out as it follows him and reveals that cop cruisers have already parked at the end of the blocks, cutting off the street and the officers are taking positions.

INT—Bank—Vault—Day

Sherri and about four or five others are herded into the vault. Sam is among the group, and stands against the wall near the door. Ronald is at the vault door, with Dean, whose hands are still in the air.

Ronald orders the people to move and then for Dean to close the vault door.

INT—Bank—Main Area—Day

Dean moves back across the main floor as his phone rings. It’s Sam and the view cuts so we see him standing over a pile of gore and skin. Sam informs Dean that it’s slipped its skin and Dean curses. Sam states that the b*****d shifts really fast. A lot faster than the one in St. Louis and Dean says that they are back to the beginning because it could be anybody. Again.

Sam tells him that he’s pretty sure most of the employees are out of the vault by now and Dean gives an okay and tells Sam to check the place over while he goes and rustles everyone up.

EXT—Bank—Day—A half hour later

Two black town cars pull up at the scene. The driver of the lead car flashes an ID and a cop lifts the police tape.

INT—Police Command Center Trailer—Day

Decker hangs up the phone, and turns to Roberts. When the Lieutenant asks what’s up, Decker informs him that the Feds are here. Roberts is less than pleased but before he can really react to the news the door flings open and Special Agent Henriksen enters. He’s forty-ish, lean and one hell of a serious dude.

Agent Henriksen introduces himself and Lt. Roberts sarcastically guesses the man’s intent to take charge, but only as long as he has the cops full cooperation. Agent Henriksen tells Roberts that he couldn’t give a rat’s a** what they do, in fact the man can go home and sleep with his wife for all he cares—all he wants is a SWAT team.

Roberts tries to tell the Agent that this isn’t going down like the usual bank heists and Henriksen says that its because this isn’t one and the man has no idea what he’s dealing with and informs the men that there’s a monster in that bank.

INT---Bank—Vault—Day

There’s a few employees already inside the vault and they are exhausted. Dean gently leads Sherri back inside the vault while the woman sobs quietly. She tells Dean that she thought he was one of the good guys.

Dean asks what her name is and she responds by asking him why he would care. Dean tells her his name and then after a second or two the woman confides her own.

The phone rings, interrupting them and Dean moves to it, comforting Sherri and telling her its all going to be over soon before he picks up the phone and answers.

INT. Police Command Center Trailer—Day

Agent Henriksen is on the phone with Dean. Dean says he’s not really in the negotiating mood and Henriksen says good, cause he ain’t either, and his job is to bring Dean in, alive preferably, although its not entirely necessary.

Dean comments that Henriksen is hard-core for a fed, and the agent replies that Dean isn’t the typical suspect. Henriksen says that he wants Dean and Sam out of there, unarmed. Either that or they are coming it. And yea, he knows all about Sam, even goes as far as to call him the Bonnie to Dean’s Clyde.

Dean admits that part of it is true. But he doesn’t get how the Agent even knows they were here. Henriksen tells Dean to go screw himself because that’s how he knew. It’s his job to know about Dean, about the murder in St. Louis and the thefts and the fraud. And hell, even about his father.

Dean bristles at the comment about John and tells Henriksen that he doesn’t know crap about the man his father was. Henriksen rambles off a list of what John was---former Marine, raised his kids on the road in motels and cabins. The only thing that bugs the Agent is that he can’t figure out what kind of wacko John was---white supremacist, McVeigh?....

Dean is more than offended and damn near livid. He tells Henriksen that he has no right to talk about his father like that and his dad was a hero. Henriksen scoffs at Dean and tells him that he has one hour to make up his mind or they are coming through the doors, full automatic.

Henriksen hangs up the phone, then turns to Roberts and Decker telling them to get the men ready they are going in within five minutes.

Roberts protests and says that they let out a hostage so far, and no one else has been hurt. But the Agent informs Roberts that 1. He’s the one conversing with the sergeant and 2. They don’t know these Winchesters the way he does—they are dangerous, smart, and expertly trained.

Roberts argues that they cant risk the lives of all those people and that’s just crazy. Agent Henriksen tells him that ‘crazy’ is in the building and he just hung up on it.

INT—Bank—Manager’s Office—Day

Sam moves through the dark room. It seems empty and he’s about to move on when he catches something and leans in. It’s a spot of blood, small, laying just outside a closet door. He cautiously approaches it, and steels himself before opening the door.

A body tumbles out at him. It’s Sherri, half-dressed, throat slashed-open, and eyes rolled back to the whites.

Sam curses.

Yah... but hey... up to ep 12.. That’s pretty good considering the month or so hiatus they'll be on.

I'm sure Sam is fine considering he's still alive in Hunted blaugh I wonder if his being infected with some sort of virus is the reason why he and Dean are separated during the beginning... ooooo..
