"Maybe around... Seven books, but none of them were best sellers. Not all authors end up living in the lap of luxury," Crevan said, grinning down at Cole. "I actually have a copy of all of them back at my duplex, but I'm not sure if you'd be interested in reading them. Most are lycanthrope horror..."
Leil yipped loudly, and quickly skittered over to Crevan, whimpering and whining pathetically. The Wiccan looked down to see what had the Fennec so upset, only to find the crab he'd been chasing earlier clamped firmly to the fur at the tip of Leil's fluffy tail. Crevan laughed lightly, and quickly freed the Fennec from the crustacean's wrath. Leil gave a pleased whine, curling up in his Master's lap contently.
"So, what about you? How was your life before you came here?"

"Don't be daft. 'Course I'd like to take a look at them, I'm always open to diffrent genre's and such." His gaze shifted to the fennec fox and he laughed, "Poor guy, that must sting!"
"Ah my life before the island. I always thought I had it really good. I grew up with two brothers and a twin sister. 'Course then I decided to actually persue a career in art and my parents all but disowned me. So I decided to join the Military Academy. Got sick of that and told my parents I was going back to my Art Degree. They kicked me out of the house. Got a commision to work on an island resort and landed myself here."

"They disowned you for pursuing a career in something you love!?" Crevan frowned deeply, narrowing his golden eyes and growling slightly, showing a single fang unintentionally. "That's just wrong. The only reason my mother disowned me is because she doesn't approve of my religion. It's sad, really. Live an' let live, y'know?"

He nodded, "Yeah, but see; My older brother is a highranking lawyer, Ally is getting her degree to be a Physical Therapist, and my little brother wants to be a Cop. They couldn't understand why I didn't want to be like my siblings."
Tilting his head to the side his ears went back ever so slightly. Religion was a tense subject for him. "Your religion?"

"Yeah. She just wouldn't listen to me, or with the facts I presented her. My religion got a lot of trash thrown at it by a lot of people, and no one's willing to listen to what its practitioners have to say," Crevan said, sighing slightly. He was proud of his religion, but he was always hesitant to reveal its exact spefications to anyone he didn't quite know yet. He'd seen a lot of different reactions, and he preferred to let someone form an opinion of him as a person before they learned too much about his more... Intimate life.

"Isn't that par for the course though? No one wants to hear a word about religions they don't like." A shadowy grimace crossed his face, "I'm not sure I would be much diffrent though, for some religions. So perhaps I should keep my hypocracy to myself." The grimace faded and he grinned at the guy. "What were you practicing witchcraft on her cat or something?"

Crevan winced. Witchcraft? Although many Wiccans referred to themselves as witches, he didn't like the term. It had to many negative connotations attached to it.
"Witch is such a negative word. The Goddess Religion wasn't even called that until the Burning Ages, we were merely practitioners of The Craft before then," he said lightly, only to suddenly wish he could take his words back. He really wished he'd start thinking before speaking...

Cole's eyes snapped up, had he really said WE. He eyed him with what bordered on trepidation. "We? So I take it you are a follower of this...this "Goddess" Religion?" He fought really hard to keep his lips from pursing together in disgust. Keep an open mind. You don't know him. Keep an Open mind. But boy was he finding it really difficult.

"You're Christian, aren't you?"
Crevan had to fight to keep from scowling, but a rueful grin spread across his lupine face. He knew that tone of voice, he'd heard it often enough. He'd lost more than his share of friends to that same tone, it almost always turned out the same. It was the tone of someone who wasn't willing to listen to reason, or to a friend...

There was a long silence, "Yes." He finally said gruffly, "I am." Biting his lip he fought back the scowl and managed to replace it with a shaky grin. So...do...yall really sacrifice animals?" He asked hoping he sounded at least the slightest intrigued.

A long pause followed suit, before Crevan burst out into laughter, falling back into the sand and clutching at his stomach. Leil looked at his master curiously from his chest, before hopping off to curl up in the sand beside him and going back to his nap.
"That's the craziest... Man, whoever told you that had no clue about what he was talking about!" he gasped out, desperately trying to stop laughing. He managed to succeed, though he still snickered out of amusement. "That goes against one of the biggest laws of The Craft. Live an' let live, fairly take an' fairly give."
Crevan grinned at Cole, before a thoughtful frown crossed his face.
"Ya know, I actually have the Wiccan Rede memorized, if you're interested. There are a lot of misconceptions about it, but if you hear the Rede, it'll clear up a lot of them. There are actually a few similarities between Wicca and Christianity..."

Cole was rather taken aback by the man's laughter. He didn't know the first thing about this Wiccan business. "Well 'scuse me for being misinformed." He said softly training his gaze on the fennec fox.
"Similarities?! Hardly. I don't see how its possible. The bible is against "witchcraft" of all sorts." Or so he thought. But then he wasn't the most devote Christian in the whole entire world. "Fine then, tell me all about your...teachings." He couldn't bring himself to say religion again.

"Alright. I guess reciting the entire Rede would take too long, so I'll just tell you nine of the Laws of Wicca," Crevan said lightly, shifting so he could softly pet Leil. "Rule one, do what thou wilt, yet harm none. Rule two, ever mind the rule of three, what you send out comes back to thee. Rule three, never work magick to inhibit another's free will. Rule four, walk your walk. Rule five, always have a back-up plan. Rule six, always work the real world with the magickal world. Rule seven, stay away from drugs and alcohol (especially with magick). Rule eight, never threaten or scare anyone with your magick. Rule nine, emrace balance - respect change."
Personally, Crevan saw a lot of similarities between the Ten Commandments and the Laws of Wicca. But he figured it would be best to shorten the laws to a few basic for Cole.

Cole eyed him suspiciously, Bryce wasn't telling him everything. Sounding downright sheepish he finally spoke, "So there are NO animal sacrifices...None...What-so-ever?" He was trying so hard to be open to this "Wiccan" business, but geez part of him wanted to throw the bible at the man infront of him. Stupid Religion, getting him all confused inside.

"Never, it's against everything we stand for. Wiccans don't harm others; period. Anyone who harms another being and calls himself Wiccan isn't a true member of The Craft," Crevan explained, giving Colby what he hoped was a disarming smile.
