Unknown Sacrifice Fallen messenger
Thump-thump. Thump-thump. Blackness. An endless void stretched before her. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. An image formed in front of her eyes. Scorched ground. Smoking tree stumps. Spatters of a dark liquid all over. The bodies...they were everywhere. Kai, Solaris, Kiana. Gevaudan, Caeldeh, Ranna. Rose. Kakumolo. Faras... Like a frenzied horse that is driven, an unseen wind of plague sweeps across the border.... She watched in horror as a thick, black liquid bubbled out of the steaming ground, slowly creeping towards her, slowly coating everything in its path. ...Pandemonium, wailing, and the stench of carnage fills the air... Sagging listlessly to the ground, she could only stare as each and every one of her friends was devoured by the sticky black substance. It was all over. The ooze had finally absorbed the last of ANYTHING around her. She could only curl up in a ball and wait for the last circle of life around her slowly be gobbled up by the ocean of black goo. ...There is no place to run, no hope of escape. Those who are lost will never return... But suddenly, a bright white light erupted in front of her, taking her away from the hellish place. As the light dimmed, she saw that she stood in front of what looked like the ruins of an ancient building, long since defeated by the passage of time. A shining white figure lay deathly still on the remains of the once-proud structure. A breeze rolled by, lightly blowing the carpet of white feathers around her feet. She reached out a hand to rouse the sleeping being.... ....the hands of time cannot be turned back. ...a clock chimed, the thick black goo oozed out of the ghostly body. She jerked her hand back, but to no avail. The ooze began to creep up her arms, as the feathers at her feet melted into oblivion as the ocean of goo returned, climbing up her legs, her torso, her neck, pouring into her mouth and nose....
Suboshi opened her eyes. Blackness.
Quickly jerking up out of the tangle of blankets, she realized that the thing in front of her eyes was NOT an ocean of black goo, but in fact, was a hand. Turning around to see the still figure of the person lying beside her, she sighed and shook her head. Reaching over to the nightstand, she grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. She scrawled a barely-legible note which could be interpreted as 'Went for a walk. -Subo' as she crawled out of the cocoon of sweat-soaked sheets.
After taping it to the only place where she would be assured that the sleeping form (which she rather belatedly identified as her lover, Faras) would find it, his forehead, she stuffed a pair of shoes on her feet, put on a jacket, and walked out the back door into the forest that lay beyond.
But alas, her progress was cut short by a sharp pain in her left foot. Mumbling curses at life, the world, and the rock in her shoe, she bent over to remove the piece of footwear and annihilate the offending rock. Of course things normally don't go as planned, and of course, she could NOT annihilate the stone, because it was not a stone that fell out.
Rather, it was one of her Mother's earrings, a silver snake with gleaming ruby eyes coiled around a blood red marble.
Uuhh...right. Not going to ask how that got there.. was the only thing she thought as she stuffed her shoe back on, dropped the earring in the pocket of her pajamas, and continued on her walk, occasionally fiddling with the piece of jewelry.
She continued her aimless wandering through the forest, too caught up in her own thoughts to realize that the air had gone completely still and the noises of the few animals and insects had stopped all together.
That is, until she stumbled into a clearing. The trees' canopies blocked out all of the light from the moon, except for one single beam, which landed on a gray stone slab in the middle of the clearing. Only a few feet from the slab was a person, deathly white, and seeming to give off a soft glow.
Subo instinctively took a step back as the words and scenes from her nightmare began echoing through her head. She was about to turn around and run back to her house, fearing that an ocean of black ooze will descend upon her any moment, until the white being began to whimper with pain as it tried to reach the slab.
Her eyes widened with amazement, for she thought the person to be dead, as she ran over to the struggling being, dead leaves and white feathers crackling beneath her feet.
"A-are you alright?" she asked, looking over her shoulder every so often for any sign of the black goo. The being only moaned as it tried to reach towards the stone slab again.
Not even bothering to question why this being would want to push its broken body beyond its limit to reach the slab of stone, Subo bent down and scooped up the nearly weightless being, and then carefully laid it down on the stone. Unknown to Subo, the earring that was previously resting in her pocket fell out and into the beings outstretched hand.
Long, thin fingers curled around it, ignoring the sharp post that was digging into its palm. Its other hand came up to Suboshi's cheek, gently turning her head around so it can look her in the eyes.
Garnet eyes met sapphire, the color of a cloudless summer sky, a questioning look in them.
"What..." Subo began, but never finished the sentence as she stroked the long white silken tresses off of the beings face, nodding to the unsaid question about the earring. It only smiled back at her, but that smile nearly broke her heart. A smile full of hope. A smile full of sadness. As it clutched the earring to its chest, the wind violently picked up, forming a small tornado of dead leaves and feathers around the slab.
Subo covered her face with her arms, waiting for the sudden onslaught of wind projected missiles to end. When it did, she lowered her arm and looked at the stone slab, but nothing was there.
With an agitated huff, she gave the clearing one last look to see if the white being was real, or a product of too little sleep. Seeing no evidence of another person being there, she turned around and headed back towards her house, seeking out the nice warm bed awaiting her.
If only she noticed the single white feather floating down to land gently among the pile of dead leaves.

A walk in the Rain Fallen messenger
Suboshi was very comfortable. In fact, one could say that she was extremely comfortable. She was curled up under a blanket on her favorite chair with a rather large mug of steaming tea and was watching the world pass by the window. One could say that she was right as rain. ....The person who said that should probably run away from all of the people that were caught in the sudden downpour. Lulled by the sound of rain on the roof and the steady clink of the dishes being washed in the kitchen (she managed to get someone else to do them tonight) she began to nod off.
A flash of brilliant blue eyes.
..Well, there went the nice nap she had planned. Quickly standing up and shedding the blanket, she marched towards the front door, sipping her tea as she grabbed a coat.
"Where're you goiiiing Subo?" a voice asked from the kitchen. "...I'm taking a walk?" she replied. "But Suuuuboo!" the voice whined. "It's POURING~!" "I knooooow!"she replied as she walked over to a closet and began rummaging through it. A green head with three eyes popped around the corner. "You'll get wet." the green being said. "Yes, one usually gets wet in the rain." she said absently as she pulled a heavy blanket out of the closet and draped it on her arm. "I'll be back in awhile." "But--" was all the green being got out before she walked out the door.
~~~ "Mumblemumbledon'tknowwhyI'mdoingthismumblemumble" Subo muttered to herself as she stalked through the forest, still sipping on her now-cool and greatly watered-down tea. Her eyes scanned the forest, looking for the clearing she visited barely a few days ago. As she continued mumbling to herself, she caught sight of a white feather floating around on the breeze. Pushing back the layer of sodden hair, she squinted her eyes to see better through the rain. There it was! She hurried over towards the clearing and looked around it for any sign of the white person. The rain, however, didn't help much as it coming down harder now, and was without the barrier of trees to make it lighter.
Figuring that it'd probably smarter to find a dryer place than looking for a person, she mumbled her way towards the rock, hoping to find some sort of overhang. SUCCESS! She was about to crawl under it when she noticed that it was already being occupied. By the white being. A thin white hand slowly emerged from under the overhang and loosely wrapped itself around Subo's ankle and tugged on it gently. Wordlessly, Subo crawled under the overhang. The being scooted over and curled up to make more room as she wiggled around to get comfortable. Managing to untangle the blanket, wrapped it around the being's shaking shoulders. It blinked in surprise and then smiled and laid it's head on her shoulder, apparently going to sleep.
Subo gently stroked its matted white hair and stared out into the rain, waiting for the storm to stop.
The Mysterious Bag Fallen Messenger Suboshi sneezed as she pushed open the front door to her hous, shed her jacket, and deposited her bags on the kitchen table. Rooting through one, mumbled something about colds under her breath and pulled out a bottle of cold medicine. Uncapping the bottle, she quickly took a large swallow of it before she had a cance to actually tase it. Wiping her mouth on her sleeve, she recapped the bottle and wandered over to the couch. Aaah, the pure bliss of medicine induced sleep. Waking up a few hours later, she was releived to find that her nose was not quite that stuffed, and her headache was receding. Untangling herself from the blanket that was wrapped around her, That wasn't there before.. she padded over to the kitchen table to the remaining bags she left there earlier. Peering intently into a plain brown bag, she didn't hear the footsteps of someone approaching her. "Whatcha looking at?" a voice asked from behind her. Jumping slightly, she turned around slowly with a guilty expression onher face.Seeing that it was only Faras, she relaxed slightly. "Uh...It's a secret." she replied, walking away from the table to put the bag in the hallway closet. "Oh...? Well..what kind of secret?" Faras asked, following Subo. "..A secret secret." she said, putting the bag on a stack of heavy blankets. "Means that you won't find out what it is." sniffing slightly, she shut the clostet door and walked back to the kitched to take another swig of the cold medicine. She knew it wasn't a good idea to spend the night in the rain. Huffind dejectedly, Faras slouched back to the living room to hide behind the book he had previously been reading. Inside the closet there was a paper bag. If one watched the bag closlely enough, one could see it rattleing slighty.
Who's That? Messenger Reborn Suboshi jerked out of bed and stumbled towards the kitchen. She'd been having tons of bad dreams lately, and had been getting very little sleep since that night. Grabbing a glass out of the cupboard, she poured herself a glass of water and leaned against the counter, staring out of the window. She blinked, thinking that she was seeing things. A small tuft of white fur ( Hair? was bobbing in and out of the tall grasses in the back yard, making small waves of movement. The fur ( Hair?) was making it's way towards the house. Subo poked her head out the back door just as the thing was at the edge of the grass.
Red eyes stared into endless blue ones. Subo blinked. What the hell was a boy doing in her backyard? Weell, odder things HAVE happened, but this boy looked familiar. Racking her memory, she finally came upon the day when she went to get donuts. Noow, what was that boy's namme? Alex? Yeeah, that sounded familiar. Aleeeexx...i! "...Alexi?" she asked the small boy. He shook his head.
"Uh..well...HEY!" she excalimed as the boy darted around her into the house. After several moments of attempting to catch the small child (and failing), Subo flopped down in a chair and peered at the boy. "Weelll then, what IS your name?" He stared at her expectantly. "You don't have one." A nod. "Finefinee.....How aboouuut....Bob?" She received a horrified stare as a result of that.
"No? Hm..." Looking around, she spotted the top of a purple head. "Heeeey, 'Teya, gimme a name."
The young harpey stared at her blankly, and thought for a moment. "Aethelind? I dunno.." she said as she slinked back off to her room.
The small boy's eyes light up as he heard the name.
"Well then, Aethelind it is. Welcome to the family."
In the Closet... Messenger Reborn Aethelind padded around the house, opening doors and peering into them, before closing them and hopping off to somehwere else. Whoever woke up and came downstairs didn't ask TOO many questions, being used to having small children randomly appear overnight. 'Lind raced down the hallway to the closet at the end. Opening the door, he looked inside, then gasped in suprise. "BIRDIIIIEEE!" he squeled happily, opening the door the rest of the way. Heads poked into the hallway to stare at boy and the feathery thing that fell out. ::I am not a bird.:: said an irritated voice out of nowhere, ringing inside of everyone's head. The feathery bundle unfolded itself from it's landing position and shook itself out. Casting a blood-colored eye around the room, his gaze finally settled on 'Lind. ::Greetings.:: the voice, apparently the creature's, rang out, bowing his (?) head towards 'Lind. "..No bird..?" he asked, tilting his head to the side, large blue eyes wide open in amazement. ::No. I am what you might call a gryphon. My name is Melchior.:: he said, bowing his head again. "..Mell!!!!" 'Lind exclaimed after a breif moments pause before flinging his arms around the gryphon's neck. Suboshi leaned back in her chair, thinking about something. Finally remembering the bag with the egg in it that she put in the closet, her eyebrow twitched, glancing over at the gryphon. Oops....
ITCHYYYYYY~~! Messenger Reborn Aethelind burrowed under the pile of blankets on his bed, matress taken off of the frame so he wouldn't roll off the side of the bed by accident. Although, something didn't feel right...He wiggled his toes. Oh. Possibly it was the fact that a gryphon was sprawled over the greater portion of the lower half of his body. Squirming around to a more comfortable position, he closed his eyes... .....And didn't fall asleep. Frowning, he wiggled his shoulders. Ohkay, sleepnow. His shoulderblades, obviously, had other plans. Twisting around in ways that looked painful, he managd to get both hands behind his back and scratched at the offending spot. ....Ow. Rolling off the matress with a thump, he stumbled his way down the hall and into Subo's room. Climbing up on the bed, he flopped dramatically across her legs. "IIIIIITCHHH!!!" With a start, Subo jerked up, a stray blanket sliding off of her head. "'Scuz me, Immmnotbit---Oh. Whatisit?" she asked, blinking away a bit of the sleep. "IIiiitch." Right. Itch....right... Lind, wanting the problem taken care of now, displayed his back. "Itch." "Your back?" rubbing her eyes with the back of her hand and yawning slightly, she pulled up the back of his shirt and peered at his back. "Yeerk, looks like you have sommat of a sommat stuck in there..." Reaching out, she pulled lightly at one of the 'sommats'. Yelping, Lind jumped back to the foot of the bed, eyes wide. "Oooh, I'm sorry..come one, lets put something over that so it doesn't get infected." Subo flopped out the bed and carried Lind down the hall to the bathroom. Opening the medicine cabinet, she got out a tube of antibacterial creme and several large bandaids. Smearing a good sized glob over each of the things poking out of his back, she carefully put a bandaid over it, making sure that it wasn't pressed up against his back. "There. Noow if it continues to itch, just come and..uhm..sit on me again. Kay?" Nodding, he padded back down to his room and buried under the covers. Aaah, sleep.
In Which 'Lind plays With Scissors and Subo Gets a Haircut Messenger Reborn 'Lind sat on the floor in the living room, surrounded by a rather large pile of construction paper, confetti, glue, crayons, and other crafty-stuff. His tongue was sticking out of the side of his mouth in concentration as he cut out a shape from a peice of paper. Subo was curled up on the couch, watching 'Lind through half-closed eyes. The couch was comfortable. But she had to stay awake! Really...! ....Yes....stay..awake.... Sadly, the couch had other ideas. Subo drifted off into sleep, muttering something about camels. Lind's attention was torn away from the paper at Subo's mutterings. His mouth formed an o' as he started at a lock of her hair fluttering around in her breath. He blinked and tugged at a peice of his own hair, frowning slightly. ~*~*~*~*~ Subo scratched her nose. Then her forehead. Then her cheek. She snarled and attempted to brush her hair out of her face. It fell right back into place. Snickers floated through the air and into her ears. Right. Naptime OVER. Sitting up quickly, she glared at Faras who was leaning against the wall, hand covering his mouth as he attempted to stifle his snickers. "What're you..do...nggg...?" her words slowed down as she saw violet locks tumble into her lap. Wait..that's not right... Running her hands through her hair, her eyes widened as she realized there was only a few inches of it left. "Wha....?" "...Nice haircut." Faras managed to choke out. Lind poked his head out from behind Faras' legs. "'M sorry.." he mumbled, staring at his feet. Subo sighed, running her hand through her hair again. "It's alright. Just...don't do it agian, kay?" Lind's face brightened, as he nodded and skipped off. Subo switched her attention back to Faras, who had a rather large smile on his face. "What d'you want?" she said, eyes narrowing suspiciously. "It's a very nice haircut. Maybe I'll get Lind to do mi-" his sentance was cut off by a pillow impacting with his face.
New friends and Pancakes. Messenger Reborn 'Lind padded around the house, seeking the yummy yummy scent in the air. Poking his head into the kitchen, his eyes widened as he saw a stranger making pancakes. She was rather small and delicate loooking, with long curls of dark pink hair, with a rather elaborate-loking red dress. But...she was making pancakes. And pacakes were good, right? So she must be good....right? Head tilting to the side slightly, he walked slowly up to her and tugged on her dress. " P'ncakes?" The woman twitched violently, sending the pancake she was flipping flying into the air. She spun around to see who was tugging on her dress (and to watch the arc of the Flying Pancake), upsetting the small top hat on her head, eyes widening with horror as she watched the pancake...... ....fall on Lind's upturned face. Kneeling down so she was on his eye-level, she removed the pancake and placed it on the counter. Sighing, she gently brushed the remaining crubs off of his face and his bangs out of his eyes (which were squeezed shut). "You alright...?" she asked hesitantly, setting aside her hat which was slowly succumbing to gravity. Eyes slowly opening in case there were any more breakfast foods that wanted to experiment with aerial stunts, he nodded and looked at the woman. "Who...?" Smiling slightly, she stood up, ruffled his hair slightly, and returned to the counter and began to fix up a plate of pancakes. "I'm Rose, your mother hired me to help around the house." Balancing the plate and a container of syrup, she nudged Lind towards the table with the other. "Now, how about some pancakes?" Yes, Rose was good. She made good pancakes. And..and...bad people don't make good pancakes! It was just common sense, after all. Climbing up onto a chair, Lind began to gobble up the pancakes just as the other inhabitants of the house woke up. After he finished his pancakes, he hopped out of his chair and raced out of the back door. Melchior needed some exercise, after all. Didn't want the silly bird-cat getting fat, now do we?
Fear the Lind. Messenger Reborn There were crayons. And paper. And markers. And blank masks. And..ohjoy, FINGERPAINT~! Face splitting into a grin of pure joy, Lind fell upon the container of arts 'n crafts stuff, pulling out small containers and bags, peering into their contents curiously. He sat back and examined his pile of materials. Something was missing.....Ah! Running down the hall to his room, he pulled the sheet off of his bed and dragged it back to his art station. Time to get to work. He drew! He glued! He cut! WHOOSH! ZAP! KAPLOOY! After completing his work, he surveyed it with a critical eye. It was time. Tying the sheet into a sloppy knot at his neck, he pulled the impromteau hood over his head, slid his mask into place, and ZOOMED off! For he was 'Lind no longer. No, now he was... .....SUPAH BOY! Defender of the innocent! Destoryer of monsters! Champion of Justice! Look! There's a monster now! Supah Boy must be stealthy to catch the monster unaware. Stealystealthystealthy. Slowly pulling his Super Sword (TM) from his Super Belt (both made of construction paper and foam), he tiptoed over to the monster, and then LEAP! Supah Boy was now latched onto the back of the Fell and Evil Monster (TM). Will Super Boy be victorious? Will the Fell and Evil Monster (TM) prevail over the power of Justice? Probably. Melchior, who was untill recently sleeping, was awaked suddenly by a small caped projectile. Which wasn't a nice way to wake up, human, gryphon, or otherwise. Surging up with a cry that was more like an undignified squak than a roar, he flared out his wings and shook himslef furiously in an attemtp to get the-the THING off of his back. He bristled when he felt something smack against his head, read to turn around and snap at whatever was on him when he heard giggles. "You're DEAD! You shouldn't be stnadiing, Mel!" the voice said in a matter-of-fact tone from behind his ear. Aaah. "Alassss! You have killed me...urr...." "Supah Boy!" "Yesss! You have desstrroyed me, Sssupah Boy! Aarrrrrr!" And with that, the gryphon died very dramatically, with much groaning and clenching at his heard with a claw. Finally, he collapsed on the floor, eyes closed, and apparently dead. "...Mel?" Lind padded over to the gryphon, bending over him. "You aren't really dead, Mel....are you? Mel? MEL?" Growing more and more panicked, he knelt down and started to shake the gryphon. One blood red eye cracked open slightly...and then..."Arrr! I have decssssieved you, Sssupah Boy!" Mel lept up, pinning the boy underneth him. "Noooo! Justice will prevaiiiilll!!!!" Squirming out of the gryphons grasp, he fled down the hall and into his room. "SUPAH BOY NEVER LOOSESSSSSS~!"
Meetings and Greetings Messenger Reborn Aethelind skipped happily down the road, chattering animatedly at Subo, who was trailing behind him. He flitted from storefron to storefront, never stopping more than a few seconds to stare at the objecst behind the windows. "Oohooohoooooh! S'boo!!" He called, hands pressed agiants the window of one shop with a large display of jewelry and such. Subo, being quite used to being dragged to any shop with shinies in it, only sighed and trudged through the crowd to the store. It was a rare moment Owle had. The events of the broken Carter City had just resolved...she had rediscovered Rand and Verde, but not yet learned of the threat of the Forgotten's shades. To make up for leaving Rand alone for so long, she was taking him and Verde for a walk through town. Rand was in sensory overload mode, looking at everyone that passed them on the street, pointing at each and asking "Who? Who? Who?" Only to be distracted by a shop window, and run over, forgetting completely that his mother wasn't as small or good at pushing through crowds as he was. Before Owle could even catch up to him, something else had caught his eye and he was off again. Understandably, the woman was panting when she ran into Subo, Rand having spied the child who looked so much like him. Owle knew that she had met this woman before, and that she liked donuts. But no name came to her mind. Rand, on the other hand, was practically twitching with excitement. "Who?" he demanded of Aethilind. "You're like me!" Shayna shivered as a slightly cold gust of wind blew past her. Her hair flew around quietly in the wind, swirling and dodging as far as it could manage to reach. She fiddled in her pocket and soon pulled out a small white iPod and shoved an earphone into her left ear.
Humming quietly to herself Shayna pulled the hood of her jacket over her head and stopped to glance at the displays in the front window of a nifty little trinket shop. A funny looking wind chime had caught her eye. Aethelind looked up from his scrutinizing of the items in the window when a someone ran up next to him. "Who...?" Tilting his head to the side, he blinked his large blue eyes and thought for a moment. "Lind!" he responded. "You...?" His eyes flicked to the girl with bright red hair who was walking towards the shop, waving slightly. Subo blinked and snapped out of the trance she has slipped in while watching Lind stare at the shiny stuff. She rubbed her eyes, thinking she was seeing double. But no, two nearly identical children were standing in front of the store. She looked around slowly, and saw Owle, someone she recognized slightly. "'Lo." "Rand!" the child declared. "Why do you look so much like me? Are you a mirror person?" Obviously Owle had been telling him stories. Owle blinked at the other child. Whoa...was she seeing double? Then the donut woman addressed her, taking her mind away from the kids. "Hello. Is that..." And it took her a moment to point out the one that wasn't Rand. "Your son?" Shayna instantly recognized the boy as being a Herald. She had never met the boy before, but she knew. There was another one almost identical to him in the shop talking with him. She smiled and waved back to the boy and she remembered when she first met Taka. She had been so exited that the two of them had looked almost exactly alike. But with memories of metting Taka came memories of the storm. That one storm that The two girls were trapped in once by themselves.
A strong shiver sent shooting down her spine and she remembered how much it hurt back then. Now, pain wasn't all so new. She could handle getting paper cuts, and bruises. She could take slamming her finger in the door by accident. Back then she would screem like all hell broke loose for even the slightest things.
Deciding quickly to get her mind off the subject she ventured into the shop and streatched her wings from where they had previously layed scrunched against her back to keep her warm. She browsed through the things scattered about and eventually stopped to admire a ring that lay behind a glass display at the back of the room. Lind shook his head, eyes wide with interest. "Mirror people...?" "Er...well, kinda. He sorta just...showed up." Subo said, shrugging slightly. She followed a shock of brilliant red hair weave through the crowd. "Oh, I'm Subo, by the way. "She said, extending her hand. "Yeah yeah," Rand said, nodding knowingly. "Mommy told me. There's a person who looks just like you, hiding behind all the mirrors and stuff. And when you aren't in front of a mirror, they go off and do secret things, like stick their tongues out at you when your back is turned. And sometimes, if you're in front of a magic mirror, they can switch places with you!" "I'm Owle," Owle said, taking the hand and shaking it. "I don't remember where I found Rand...how he came to me. I don't think...I don't think he's related by blood, though. He's an angel, and I, well...I'm not." "Sounds scary..." he said, mouth forming an 'o'. "But...how woul people know if you were you or if you weren't you...ororororor..." He paused, a frown line appearing between his eyebrows. "That wouldn't be good..." "Well," Subo said, shoving her hands into the pockes of her jacket, "if everyone was an angel, things'd be kinda boring, right?" "Uh-uhn," Rand agreed, shaking his head. "There was this one kid, and his mirror boy switched places with him. He got in lots of trouble for it, even after he managed to get out of the mirror world. Cause mirror boys like playing all sorts of pranks, cause they know they won't be the ones in trouble." "Yeah..." Owle replied. "And a lot less safe." She glanced inside the shop, at the red haired woman with fiery wings, but couldn't think why she seemed so familiar. Lind's eyes widened at that. "What 'dyou think the mirror world is like?" he asked, glancing dubiously at a silver gilded hand-mirror that was on display in the window. Subo raised an eyebrow at Owle's last comment, but said nothing of it. "But even though they aren't blood, doesn't mean they're not family." Grinning a bit impishly, she shrugged agian. "Sadly, however, that phlosophy has gained me several troublesome ones." "Mmm..." Rand thought long and hard, peering into the mirror. "Well, it's got to be just like our world, only backwards." The little kid nodded wisely. "Like, people walk backwards, and they think backwards, so they say goodbye instead of hello and things." "Yeah," Owle replied, grinning back. "Though oftentimes the same philosophy has made more people look after me..." Aethelind blinked, and tried out this whole 'walking backwards' thing. Sadly, it didn't work, but the person who he ran into seemed to think it was amusing. "Do they have eyes in the back of their heads?" Subo snickered slightly and stamped one of her feet to warm it up slightly. "Having someone look after you is nice, though." "Maybe," Rand said thoughtfully. "I've never seen the back of my head in a mirror." "Yeah..." Owle answered. "Makes me feel guilty though, you know? Everyone's out to protect me...I can do stuff, too!" 'Lind was determined. he stood in front of the mirror with the back of his head facing it, then slowly turned around. Nope. He tried it again, but turning around faster this time. No luck. Awr, this might take some work. Subo 'mmph'ed quietly as she watched the antics of the two young heralds. "Well, you could always repay them in some other way...Or tell them how you feel about it...although people find that rather shocking for some reason..." "Hmm..." Rand tried himself, but it obviously wasn't working. "I know! I'll turn around, and you can tell me! And then I'll tell you." Owle giggled a little at the two of them. "Eh, they know...they just wave it off, tell me its alright, its what they want to do...better I just accept it." She leaned in closer to Subo, dropping her voice. "You know, I should never have told him that story. He spent half the day in front of the Firebrand's mirror, trying to get through it." Aethelind grinned and nodded enthusiastically. He scrutinized the back of Rand's head, looking for any sight of eyes on the back of his head. "Nope..." he said rather dejectedly. Subo snorted and inclined her head. "Yes, it's a good thing that the vast majority of mirrors are waaaay above where he can reach. Though...he's a smart little bugger, so he'll probably find a way t get to them anyways..." "Aww..." Rand said. "Maybe this mirror's broken, or the mirror me's hiding them..." Owle laughed, "Yeah...I have to follow Rand around constantly to make sure he's not taking anything important apart..." "Hrmph. Well, the mirror people are sleeping? Cause it's opposite there, right? So it'd be night now, wouldn't it?" Lind pondered, frowning slightly and staring at the mirror. "I think the vast majority of breakable objects have already been broken..." Subo said, absently watching the two small boys. "They kinda look like the same person, don't they?" Rand's eyes went wide "You're right!" he exclaimed, as if this was the biggest discovery since steak. "Hey!" he said, rapping on the glass of the window. "Wake up in there!" "Yeah, they do..." Owle replied. "It's strange, isn't it? Do you think, maybe they're brothers?" Then Rand started pounding on the display window, and Owle reached out to grab his wrist, stopping him from knocking again. "Calm down, Rand; don't make a scene." Rand pouted at her. "I'm trying to wake up the mirror people," he protested, as though this were a perfectly normal thing to do. "You shouldn't do that..." Owle said, dropping her voice as though she was about to talk about something particularly mysterious. "They're reeeally cranky when they just wake up. They might grab you in and eat you!" And she grabbed at his sides, tickling him for effect. Rand squirmed and giggled, but soon broke away. "Really?" he asked Owle, then turned back to the display window. "Hey! Wake up!" Lind's eyes widened as he listened to Owle. "Eaten...?" he said in a frightened tone of voice, before he scooted over to Subo and clung to her leg. "Don't wanna be eaten." Subo ruffled his hair before picking him up and transferring him to her him. "I dont think anyone does." she walked over to the window and peered at the mirror. "Aw, don't be such a scaredy," Rand said. "I'll keep them from eating anyone, I just want to see them." He turned back to the window to shout at it again. "Rand," Owle said sternly. "No. If you wake up the mirror people, you won't be getting any dessert tonight." "Aww..." Rand sighed, disappointed. "Why not?" "Because I don't want them even trying to eat you. Okay?" "O-kay..." Rand muttered, still pouting. Lind placed his palm against the glass, staring at the mirror one last time before turning his attention to the other things on display. "Oooh, axe!" "No axe untill you don't need a chair to open the cupboards." "Aaar." "Can I have an axe?" Rand asked Owle, looking at the strange object curiously. It looked cool. "No," Owle answered. "Axes hurt people." Lind huffed once before craning around to look at Rand. "No axe for you, too?" Subo examined it for a moment, before mumbling to herself. "It IS a nice axe though..." "Nah...." Rand says, looking dejected. "Mom always thinks I'll break things. I know how to be careful..." "But you choose not to," Owle muttered, under her breath. "Yeah." Lind nodded enthusiasticly to Rand's comment. "I don't break stuff!....Kinda..." Subo snorted and continued her observation of the shop. "Yeah, tell that to the table." "Well, I used to break stuff...cause sometimes things come apart, and I have to see how they fit together, but the only way to tell if they come apart or not is to try..." Rand explained. Lind nodded enthusiastically, a lock or two of white hair falling in front of his eyes with that action. "They yell when you do, though.." he said, a rather sheepish look on his face as if he had been chastised for the act before. "Mmhm," Rand agreed solemnly. "Mom always yells if I can't put it back together once I've broke it..." "More insteresting in peices, though.." He bent over the sidewalk, placing pebbles into a seemingly random pattern of piles and spirals, along with the occasional leaf and twig. "Sometimes," Rand commented. He scooched down to look at the pattern Lind was making. "Whatcha doing?" "Mmm.." he thought for a moment, poking a pebble into place, "I dunno. Whatcha think it looks like?" "Hmm..." Rand examined it for a while, tilting his head this way and that. "Like the water, and the beach. Kinda, if you look at it funny." "Yeah, it does!" he contemplated the design, pushing around a pebble with his finger. "Thinks it needs a shark?" "Ooooh....yeah!" Rand exclaimed. "A really big one, right...." His hand moved over the design, milling about as he came to his decision. "There!" he decided, jabbing his finger down at an empty spot. Lind dropped a few pebbles and leaf where Rand indicated, and leaned back. "D'you think it needs anything else?" "Mmm..." Rand considered. "Nope!" he decided, getting up so he could look at the whole thing from a distance. "So," Owle said, glancing at Subo. "You live around here?" "Mm, kinda. 'Bout twenty minutes from the edge of town if you're going really fast" she said, waving her hand vaguely. "Ah..." Owle said, not sure what to say next. Subo blinked and tilted her hed to the side, gnawing on her bottom lip thoughtfully. "You can come visit sometime, if you'd like. There's usually someone around all the time and I'm sure 'Lind'd like a new playmate...." "That would be great!" Owle replied, taken by surprise by the invite. "You're welcome to bring Lind over to the Firebrand Tavern anytime you like...it's a small place, over on the shore of Gambino." Subo grinned, "I most certainly will!" And then she looked down due to the ligt tugging at the hem of her pants. Lind looked up at her, blue eyes clouded over by tiredness. "Hmph, finally run out of energy? Well, Owle, it was nice seeing you again, and I hope to see you again soon," she said, scooping up Line, "but I'm afraid some of us are about to fall asleep." WIth another smile and a wave (and a rather slepy one from Lind) she headed off down the street, soon to be swallowed by the crowd. "See you later!" Owle waved after them. "Take care of yourselves!" "Buh-bye!" Rand waved. "Is it time to go home?" Owle chuckled. "I guess so, if you're tired, too. Come on..."
Egg Hunt Messenger Reborn Suboshi-sama Hateya slouched towards the tables that she assuemed were for the egg hunt, mumbling something under her breath. Aethelind bounced happily along with her, letting out an excited squeal when he saw the tables. He ran forwards to them, small wings fluttering happily, calling to the harpy over his shoulder that she needs to hurry up. "They so owe me for this one.." Hateya muttered before picking p her pace slightly. Suboshi-sama Lind ran around, paper bag streaming mehind him like a cape. He dodged around various children, bushes, and animals, eyes scanning the landscape for a telltale hint of an egg. Oh wait! Was that a speck of sky in the grass? Was it an egg? Well, there was only one way to find out. He wriggled between two bushes, parting the branches and leaves to see if his guess was correct. FallenMercury Sighing, she gave up on the rock garden. There were no eggs there and she had to admit it. Still, she was going to keep looking somewhere else. Glancing around, she scoped out the area. There were lots of kids working together and she sneered slightly, though deep down she sort of wished she was with someone as well. Trying to block out the feeling, she began to search in a flower bed. Suboshi-sama Lind sighed dejectedly, poking the flower he saw in an attempt to make it sprout eggs. With one final jab, he crawled back out of the bushes and ran off in another direction, wishing he brought Mel with him so he could have another set of eyes to look for the eggs. "Vwwwrrmmmmm~!" he pushed long grass aside, peered under rocks, looked around legs, hoping that this time he would be rewarded. FallenMercury Fala looked around, sighing again. "Would anyone like to hunt wit me?" she screamed, her tail flicking slightly. Her dark gray eyes lit up as she noticed Lind, who didn't seem to be hunting with anyone. She toddled up to him and smiled deviously. "Would you like to hunt wit me?" Suboshi-sama Lind looked up from his searching, staring at Fala for a moment before a large grin stretched across his face. "'Kay!" He said happily, tiny wings fluttering with excitement. "Can't find any." He added as an afterthought, frowning slightly. FallenMercury Fala frowned but shrugged. Oh well, not her problem, right? She said lightly, "Sorry," before nodding and him and beginning to search nearby. She had been digging holes to look earlier and was tempted to do it again but she remembered how angry her mother had gotten. Instead, she looked in the grass. Suboshi-sama Lind grinned again before hopping over to a spot of grass near where Fala was looking, but this one was at the base of a large tree with large protruding roots. Maybe one was in there...? FallenMercury Fala eyed Lind's egg with slight jealously, despite the fact she had more eggs than him. "'grats," she murmured offhandedly, still searching for herself. Greedy little child! Suboshi-sama Lind giggled happily, dropping the egg into his previously empty bag. With a look of excitedness, he looked over at Fala, seeing the egg she just found. "'Grats to you tooo!" He exclaimed, running around the tree in hopes of finding another egg. FallenMercury "Thanks!" Fala peeped, taking a sudden shine to Lind. "My name's Fala," she said shyly, "what's yours?" Suboshi-sama Lind pulled himself out of the tangle of roots, slightly dissapointed. "Lind." he said, the smile of excitement still on his face. "'S short for Aethelind though." he added, making a slight face at his full name. FallenMercury "Lind. Tha's a nice name." She cocked her head to the side and grinned. "Let's keep lookin'!" She dug around (not literally - this time) for more eggs in the flowerbed, her eyes bright. Suboshi-sama "You think?" He asked, flopping down on the ground rooting though the flowers. "Fala's a nice name too~." FallenMercury Fala turned faintly red, smiling slightly. "Thanks..." she tilted her head and looked around, pawing at the dirt in the flowerbed. More eggs... she almost hungered for them, but she was enjoying the company, too. Suboshi-sama The tip of Lind's tongue was stuck out of the corner of his mouth as he continued searching for some eggs. He peered back up at Fala, eyes widening as he saw the second egg she pulled out. "Wow, you're good at this!" FallenMercury Fala smiled triumphantly, winking even though she didn't know what winking really meant anyway. She had seen her mother do it before and thought it looked cool. "Thanks!" She pocketed the egg and continued rummaging around, offering him an occasional smile. Suboshi-sama ((Oh, Akivara, I posted the art you got from the riddle in your quest thread =3 <3)) Lind grinned and winked back, and then gaped when she pulled out her THIRD egg. "Luckkyyy!" he said, rummaging around in the flowers with renewed vigor. FallenMercury Fala grinned brightly. Wow, she was doing pretty well! However, she felt bad since he didn't have nearly as many. "If I find another, you can have it," she said with a grin. Suboshi-sama Lind sat there for a moment with an expression of shock on his face. Then a large grin slowly spreaded open, and he tackle-hugged Fala, happily squeeing "Thankyouthankyou!" before detaching himself and burrowing through the grasses in a large circle. FallenMercury This time Fala turned BRIGHT red, smiling embarassedly. "'s no problem," she mumbled happily. "I've got lotsa eggs for myself and you don't have many. I might 's well help." She pawed through the grass again before moving to an old tree stump, checking around it. FallenMercury Blinking with surprise, she handed him the brightly coloured egg that she pulled away from the stump. "That didn't take long!" She said, pleased with herself. "Here ya go." Suboshi-sama Lind squeaked in suprise as the egg suddenly appeared in his face. He held it gingerly in his hands, examining it for a moment before placing it in his bag. "You are reallllly good at this!" he exclaimed, eyes practically becoming heart-shaped. He peered cautiously around the stump, wondering if there was a magical egg-producing device hidden around there somewhere. FallenMercury She smiled brightly at him, shrugging. "Have fun," she giggled slightly at his reaction, tossing her head with a twitch of her ear before getting back to searching. Suboshi-sama Lind flashed a grin and a thumbs-up over his shoulder as he crawled over the stump, looking in all of the nooks and crannies the roots and bark made. Suboshi-sama Lind giggled happily as he snatched the egg from a deep wrinkle in the bark, overbalancing and tumbling into the long grass. He tucked it away in his bag, crawing forwards to peer into a pit or hole in the ground wondering if there were any rabbits in it. Cause rabbits are bunnies, right? And bunnies have eggs! ...right? FallenMercury Fala pulled back a small stone at the base of the stump, wondering if perhaps a prized egg was hidden in there. A grin crossed her lips as she eagerly flipped it over and crawled to her knees to check. FallenMercury Frowning when she found nothing, she sighed and put the rock back before looking at Lind. "I'ma go look in that tree, okay?" Without waiting for an answer, she moved over to a tree that was right by the stump and began to leap for a branch, trying to grab onto it. Finally she succeeded and pulled herself up, swinging to the next branch with caution. As she got higher and higher up, she began to look for hidden eggs. No bunny? Ah well. He stelthily swam through the vegetation, slowly spiraling around a sapling. Will the LindShark be victorious? Only time will telll. Lind popped out of the grass when his shark attack was less than succesful. "Kay!" He headed over to the tree, hoping thatan egg or five billion would fall out of the branches. In the meantime, he wound his way around the trunk, keeping a sharp eye on the lookout. Lind looked up sadly. No rain of eggs. With a sigh, he peered into the lower braches, hoping that if he saw one he could get one down. A downfall to being small. He walked aorund in large circles, watching the ground half of the time, and the tree braches for the rest of the time, hoping that this method would produce eggs. Lind skipped along, humming tunelessly as he ran around trees in circles, crawled through grass, and peered into holes. How did some people make it seem so easy? He wondered. Lind toddle over to the table, crawling up on one of the benches, carefully placing his eggs in a row in front of him. They were all so nice and bright~ He looked up from the table and saw Hateya approaching and sighed slightly. Time to go. He put his eggs back in his bag, and hopped down off of the bench, but peeked under the table before he left on a hunch. Lind skipped around, happy that Hateya let him have some extra time before leaving. Buu~ut he was on a misson. Eggs. The eggs will be his. Yes. He zoomed off, crawling under tables and benches, lifting up the occasinal rock and peering under it. Lind continued his search, branching out from rocks and stones to roots and bushes. His head turned around when he heard several voices nearby. He scooted out of the bush to see what it was, and he saw a small group of children looking for eggs too! Mybe they'd let him join them...He happily ran over to them, scooting to a halt at the edge of the group, eyes wide with...excitement? Apprehension? Lind heard a rustling in the leaves. Maybe that sneaky magic egg machine was dropping off an egg there...He wandered away from the group, peering into the dense leaves of the bushes. With an irritated huff, Lind plopped on the ground in front of the bush, glaring at it. The eggs, clearly, were afraid of him. That could be the only answer. But he wasn't scary, was he? He got up slowly, and wandered around, peering blankly in all of the nooks and crannies that presented themselves to him. With a rather high-pitched excited squeal, he pulled an egg out from a small space between two small stones. See? He wasn't scary. Holding the egg aloft, he proclamed to the world that he, Aethelind Hord'Ikai (also known to some as SUPAH BOY!) was victorious. Running around rather spastically, he went off in search of another. Lind giggled as he put his second(!) new found egg in his bag, and was about to go look for another when a blue hand grabbed his shoulder. "Hey, 's really time to go back now." Hateya said in a rather exasperated tone of voice. "Aaawrr....can I stay for a bit longer?" He asked, looking rather dejected. "No. Someone's already gonna have my hide for keeping you this long. C'mon, you have lots of eggs now, huh?" Hateya grabbed his and and started walking back home. "Yeah! And they were in all sorts of weird places...Piggyback?" He asked suddenly, tugging on his sisters arm. With a wordless sigh she hoised Lind up on her shoulders, keeping him balanced by holding both of his hands. Lind, however, used this newly gained altitued to scope out the frew remaining tree branches for a last possible egg... This took place in the GMFC egg hunt. ]http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewtopic.php?t=2707457&page=1
Deep Forest Wanderings Messenger Reborn Lind ran through the trees, leaping over fallen branches and rocks. Mel raced along beside him, occasionally leaping into trees and skimming through the air over the end. Lind giggled as they raced past the pond, balancing on the sun-warmed rocks that lined it. Lind's small wings fluttered with excitement as he plunged deeper into the forest, farther than he had ever gone before. Mel landed beside him, slowing his pace down so the young Herald wouldn't fall behind. "Hey, Mel, this is kinda neat, huh?" Lind asked, staring at an oddly shaped and colored fungus growing from the trunk of a fallen tree. Mel snorted and shook his head, gingerly stepping over any plantlife that was in his way. "It is ssscertainly strrrangerrr than any foressst I have been in..." He glanced warily at the flora that seemed to be getting more and more defored and twisted as they went along. "Didn't yourrr Sssubo say something about not coming in here along?" Lind shrugged and continued to wind his way through the trees. The feathers of Mel's crest rose slowly up, his stance becoming more and more defensive as they went deeper into the forest. "Maybe we ssshould get back home..." he rumbled, looking nervously around. :The gryphon is right, little child.:He squeaked and glanced around, backing into Mel and attempting to burrow in his fluffed up feathers and fur. Mel growled, wings mantling over Lind as he glared into the shadows that lurked beneath the trees. ::Fear not, Melchior. We will not harm you.:: The voice said, chuckling slightly. : :No, we will not harm one so small, or one with your relatives.:: Another chuckle. This time, a pair of brilliant emerald green eyes shone from the shadows. ::Your mother's temper is not something one would face on purpose.:: The speaker stepped out of the shadows, walking forwards enough to be clear of the clinging shadows. The androgynous form seemed to look like a plant that had been turned into a basically humanoid form. It's limbs were long and thin, but were enveloped by the large voluminous sleeves of it's robe. It crounched down in front of Lin, it's root-lie toes burrowing in the soil. ::Well, then, what is your name?::"L-Lind.." he sail quitetly, voice muffled by Mel's feathers. ::Lind, hmm?:: Green eyes twinkled happily. ::Well, you should be more careful in the future and heed your mother's advice.:: A green hand cupped his face, gently lifting it so his eyes met the plant persons. ::Knowing young boys, however, the advice will go straight over your head. So.:: it rummaged in one of it's large sleeves, pulling something small out after a moment of searching, ::take this, it will hopefully keep you safer.:: It then pressed the object in his hand and wandered back off to the trees, giving one last glance of green eyes before dissapearing. Wordlessly, Mel and Lind hiked back out of the forest, but it was only then that he looked at the pobject in his hands. A silver ring laid there, too big for him now, but it would fit his as he grew. On the band of the ring there were several small pale blueish stones with the image of eyes flashing out of them at certain angles. He started as a hand was placed on his head, and he realized that he wandered home, too absorbed in his thoughts to notice. "Weeell, whatcha got there?" Subo asked, kneeling down so she was eye-level with him. Lind silently held up the ring, offering no explination. Subo only raised an eyebrow and ruffled his hair. "Well, looks like we need something to put that on for now, dont we?" She fumbled around her neck, pulling several necklaces out of her collar, before taking off a thin silver chain, sliding off the pendant that was hanging on it and putting it in her pocket. She threaded the ring onto it and slipped it over Lind's head, smiling slightly. "Less chance of loosing it." She patted him on the head again before heading inside. He looked down at the ring dangling on his chest, and looked at Mel. With a squeal, he launched himself at the gryphon and they once again started their endless routine of play.
The Art of Annoyance Messenger Reborn The morning mist still hovered over the ground, giving the Hord'Ikai house an almost etherial feeling. ...That is, of course, untill an angry yell sliced through the silence, startling the birds in the nearby trees into the air. "GIVE THAT BACK YOU STUPID MIDGET!!!!!" Aethelind burst out of the front door, closly followed by Mel. He was clutching something to his chest, a large grin spread across his face and each footsep marked by the clink of the ring he wore around his neck. The door barely closed when another figure slammed it open and raced out after him. Hateya snarled as her longer legs pumped, swiftly gaining on her smaller brother. Lind peered over his shoulder and squeaked, picking up the pace slightly. But to no avail. Hateya scooped him up, wrestled the object out of his arms, and flung him over her shoulder. "Aren't you supposed to be keeping him in line?" she asked Mel in an exasperated tone of voice, ignoring the small fists that were battering her head and back. Mel mumbled something noncommital, and Hateya "Hmph"ed and turned to walk back to the house. That, however, was the wrong move. A feather-and-fur ball smalled into her back, loosening her hold on Lind and the object, which the Herald snatched up before clambering onto Mel's back. Hateya, being the irritable person she was, did not take this very lightly. WIth a snarl and a snap of her wings, she jumped off after them. Lind looked over his shoulder, expecting to see the harpy on the ground yelling at them. "...MELGOFASTER!" he yelled trying to burrow into the fur and feathers of the gryphon's back. Alas, his plan had failed. Snatching her journal out of Lind's hands, she quickly descended back to the ground with a "Thanks!" thrown over her shoulder before she stalked back into the house. Drats. Mission, failure.
