Kaelyn had been listening as he spoke, she could tell he had an artists love for beauty. Then he mentioned a resort and she froze from where she was running her fingers through the sand.

"A resort you said?" Perhaps that was why they were teaching the natives about technology, so they could accept the presence of an island resort.

"Yeah," her voice had grown softer as she looked at the beauty around her.


"I'm here to help the natives adapt to new technology. Its basically volunteer work, but I want to help people, and if it involves computers I'm game."

Kaelyn still did not suspect that the stories they had been told were completely different. And still neither of them knew the true purpose behind the island.

"Neither did I" the woman admitted, "but I thought I could help somehow so I came." She looked around the beach and smiled thoughtfully. "It was my freshman year at university. I was eighteen and unsure where I wanted to go with my life, then as a general course I took CSE 142, computer programming. I loved it so thats where I stayed." She kicked at the sand with a bare foot. "I am going to be completing my masters degree while here for a few years."

Kaelyn looked at the piece of art that Cole seemed to be disappointed in. She didn't see why, it was so much better than she could ever do. She remembered going to the county fair and seeing artwork that was far worse than that get first prize. "I think its great. I've only had experience with #d rendered stuff remember. I am not a good judge of art." But she said it with a smile on her face.

"And as for my dreams, at one point I actually wanted to become a scientist, but an ex drove me away from that. He also stopped after getting his bachelor's degree and that is why I went on to get a Masters. I was spiteful. Once I was a graduate student however, I realized that it wasn't worth it to be hateful towards everybody that I might've had a bad experience with." The woman shrugged and brushed her bangs back from her eyes. "I became much happier after that."

Kaelyn grimaced and looked across the water. "To put it nicely, he was a complete jerk. He treated me alright, but he was a bit clingy. So I broke up with him, he tried to get back with me for a few weeks then started hating me." She shrugged again "It was years ago anyway. My parents supported me in whatever I wanted to do and I liked computer programming anyway. Too bad your parents weren't as understanding, that sort of stuff could hurt."

She nodded and pushed herself to her feet brushing the sand off her jeans casually before slipping her white sneakers on and following Cole. "Getting away," she murmered quietly but loud enough so he could hear. "I think that is why I came here. I needed to get away from too much technology." She laughed, "to think, if I had stayed in Rhode Island I would probably have forsaken all human company for a computer by now."

A delighted laugh escaped her as she accepted his arm. He's such a gentleman, Kaelyn thought. Though he also isn't shy I don't think. He also has a nice sense of humor. "I'd love too." Another laugh. "Rhode Island is nice, but I lived there my entire life. I needed to see other places. What I really should have done was go to school out of state, but it was too expensive. My parents couldn't afford it and even though I had a part time job I didn't want student loans. As far as I figure, why go out of state and have student loans when you can stay in state, learn the same thing, and be able to afford it better." Her logic was sound, and she did like the university. She also liked still being around all her old high school friends. They had been so surprised when she told them that she had decided to go to an island for a few years. An island without much technology was even more surprising to thgem.

"Europe sounds nice. I want to go to Italy, my parents came to the United States from there." His good mood was extremely contagious because Kaelyn found herself wanting to whistle a jolly tune. "You have a twin sister? Thats cool, I am an only child."
