Something wasn't right. Maryke could feel it. Deep inside her stomach, twisting and turning around and around like the cogs of some fear inducing machine. She had seen the nitty gritty, she'd seen it all. From the backstabbers to the lowlifes, to...well everything. So she built up a good solid intution and right now it was telling her that hauling a** would be the smart move to make. But, she pushed the fears down quickly.

What the hell was she worried about anyway, she thought as she followed Dr. Duvert into the massive building. Everything around here looked legit and it was pricy looking enough to catch her full attention. Besides, she'd rather throw her fears to the wind then have that Dingo Fever, or whatever it was called. Because having pus drenching sores versus having peace of mind really sounded like a 'no s**t' weigh of scales.

So she said nothing and took nothing from her inner worries. She perked at the sound of relaxing however, oh how nice THAT would be. And she already expected her room to come with the works. Afterall, this was some kind of resort or something like that. At least that was the impression she had been given, or perhaps that was the impression she gave herself.

Taro hesitated only a little bit in the lobby. It was quite surprised by the posh of the whole location. Cushy chairs, clean walls, and that vauge steral smell that all hospitals had. His brows furrowed slightly... they had the money to build something like this but he was still here doing Peace Corp things?

It was a little off.. but then again, the doctor had mentioned vaccinations. Maybe this place was so nice because they specifically needed the facilities to take care of whatever was wrong here. That was possibly even more creepy than the oddly placed decked out building.

He shrugged and followed Doctor Duvert into the elevator, impressed by the fact that it moved on voice control. Very nice, he'd seen it only once before when he was young. He was fast growing impatient, though, he didn't understand anything of what they were saying, really. Language barriors were irritating.

He handed over the translator to Doctor Duvert and pointed to it, hoping he'd get across that he wanted him to tell him SOMETHING that he could easily understand. He didn't give a s**t what, just break up the monotony, please.

Finally, the elevator jerked to a halt and the door slid open to a large medical room, which Sabin stepped into and gestured for them to follow him as he walked over to a mirrored cabinet along the wall.

Opening it quickly he peered inside at a shelf containing a series of small vials.

"Take a seat if you like..." THere were a couple of chairs and a medical table, nothing that looked too accomodating. "I'll be just a moment."

Serums.. serums... and none of the serums of his particular bent available. He had been too busy doing what he was supposed to do lately. with a wry smile, Sabin plucked two off the shelf at complete random, not even looking at the labels. That might be interesting!

After closing the cabinet he retreived two plastic-wrapped syringes, a bottle of rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs. Drawing the serum into the needle and setting the bottle down, he wet the cotton swab and grinned to the pair.

"Who first?" He lifted his eyebrows and held his free hand out first to Maryke then to Taro to try to get the point across.

Ah, the wonders of further randomization.

Briefly Maryke had a flashback of when she was a little girl, getting her immunization shots in the third grade. She had been scared and anxious and the one thing she remembered the most was her alcholic mother smacking her when the doctor at the free clinic wasn't looking and telling her to 'suck it up'. To stop being such a whiny little brat. Hmmph. Fear wasn't something you did back then. Not then and sure as hell not now. So with her heart racing and her body twitching, she merely 'sucked it up.'

She took a few quick breaths and quickly calmed herself. Finding situations easier when she told herself that she didn't give a s**t what happened one way or the other. And if she told herself that often enough then she finally believed it. More problems pushed down inside of her, never to be seen, and if they were? Well, she had a few vices up her sleeve that took them clean away.

"I'll go first," she offered bravely, taking a delicate seat behind her and already sticking her arm out. Might as well get this over in one shot, no pun intended.

Taro gave a very exagerated, annoyed sigh and pocketed the translator. What the hell did it matter now, he decided he wasn't going to get any kind of translation until he made it back to wherever he was staying and taught himself some of this s**t.

He looked at the syringes and winced only slightly - anyone who actually enjoyed shots were junkies. He was about to offer to go first when the American woman stuck out her arm. He shrugged and leaned against the nearby wall to watch. He was next, in fact he was already rolling up his undershirt sleeve (his jacket was back in the jeep).

Sabin administered Maryke's injection quickly and professionally, swabbing at the arm before and after the needle's entrance. The puncture itself was relatively painless, though there was the pinch as the serum entered her bloodstream, and a strange heat that spread through her veins afterwards.

"You might have a fever tonight, but there is aspirin and tylenol available at the 'town center' that you are welcome to if you need it." Sabin offered.

He picked up the vial to read the label only after he injected her, nodding to himself at the mammalian choice, making a quick note in her file before picking up the second vial. TOo curious to leave the second surprise till afterwards as well, that bemused grin returned to his face as he read the designation.

Unable to help himself, he waved Taro over, "Hope you don't mind needles." He said mirthfully as he administered him the injection as well.

The headache was now worse. She watched the needle press into her skin and then extract something before leaving her body. She watched in a somewhat in a morbid fascination way. For a few moments she wondered if her life would lead her down this twisted little path, that the new found habit she'd aquired would escalate into this being a usual occurance, but before she could delve deeper into her thoughts the heat began to spread through her body. She groaned loudly, pursing her lips out and shifting her weight, careful not to make a show of it even though it did make her really uncomfortable. She licked her lips a few times, hazel eyes darting back and forth across the room in a rapid motion while her head was spinning.

She ignored his offer for the meds at the town center, whatever that was, instead she made a mental note to scrummage through her bag later, for some pills she knew were in there. She had her own over the counter painkillers and didn't exactly trust gettin' them from a place that had just shoved a needle in her ******** arm. Leaning back into the chair she removed the sunglasses that had been placed casually on the top of her head since entering the building. After setting them down onto her lap she began to rub her temples a few times, cocking her head to the side while she did it so that she could see how the Japanese guy handled his injection.

Taro winced a little, the pinch followed by the unfamiliar and uncomfortable warmth. Other than that he let his hand drop to his side after the injection was administered. He decided he'd try getting some sense out of what they were talking about once more.

Once more the pocket translator was taken out and he tapped away for a good minute before speaking. "You do exprain what you said before? Onegai?" He held out the translation device to the white-haired man. "Speak an' go?" He made little walking motions with his fingers, he was ready to get out of this place and take a shower, get in bed maybe. Jet lag was a b***h.

Sabin tossed the spent needles into the wastebasket and smiled.

"And the hard part's over! I'll just escort the two of you to your rooms..."

He listened carefully to Taro before taking the translator and typing out the message: "An innoculation against Dengue fever - a tropical disease. I will show you to your room now and you can sleep off the jet lag."

HE waved the two of them back to the elevator, which began its descent back to the hallway.

"There is a lot to see here, Miss Jiminez - beautiful beaches, tropical woods.. it should be a nice... getaway... for you."

Beautiful beaches? Tropical woods? Ah, finally! She paused in her movements at the word of 'getaway' wondering how much Sabin knew. But, she figured most people knew about her. Well, the people that mattered anyway. This doctor guy was probably a higher up. A nobody wouldn't have been scent to collect her. No way. She looked over to Taro, wondering what his deal was. Hmmm, probably one of those Japanese tourists, the ones with the Mickey Mouse hats, annoying cameras, and the little stich about not knowing a lick of English.

"Good," she said, giving Dr. Duvert one of her more classic smirks, "I'm sure this place will meet my....standards. And if there is a problem, am I assume you're the one whose going to address it?"

Sleep, okay, good. That was fine, he could do with sleep, and a shower, a deliciously hot shower. He went through the tedious effort of tapping on the damned translator again as they travelled back to the car, or so he assumed.

"There it has become vertical here? I may take the hot shower?"

He was asking about plumbing.. but how could he know the damn translator was crappy at doing it's own job? He just parroted back what was on the screen as best he good, further garbling it all with his accent so that it would probably come out near impossible to understand.

Sabin led them back out to the jeep, speaking as he walked.

"That's right, Miss Jiminez. There is an intercom in the rooms, if you ever need to get in contact with any of the staff, just press zero. Everything that you should need is or can be provided. Most of the basic amenities - food, toiletries, medicine.... liquor - is either at the town hall or the beach bar. " He flashed her a dashing smile, but there was a twinkle in his eyes.

"Vertical....?" Sabin looked to Taro blankly, helping them into the vehicle. "YOu know.... it's probably a good thing that there are other Japanese people here.... and they seemed to have a better grasp of English. Perhaps you can go speak with one of them. I... don't remember what room Kikue's in... but one is actually a translator - she's in room 46.... ah, nevermind. here.." He took the translator from him, and typed in "Japanese woman... translator in room 46." Before handing it back to him.

"But anyway, it's just a short trip to your rooms - I'll take you there now."

The more he talked the more Maryke was warming up to the idea of staying here. It sure wasn't a room at the Frégate, but at least she'd be getting good service, and of course the beach bar sounded damn good. Course, bed was where she was headed after a nice long hot lavender scented bubble bath. But, she'd definitely have to check it out tomorrow, or maybe even later tonight if she was up for it after her bath.

"Sounds wonderful," she replied, hazel eyes already glossy with how good this would feel. No pre-arranging sex for scum business men, no worries about the confounds of people that was clammering over her, and the FBI? She was far, far away from any pig that'd want to see her behind bars.

Maybe this vacation was what she needed after all.

Taro got back into the jeep. A japanese woman, and a translator at that. A wave of relief washed over him. He hadn't ever realized how important communication was until just now. Maybe he'd even manage to learn something.

...He hoped she was cute.

For now he'd be content getting to his rooms though, get settled, take that damn shower that he had his heart set on. After that he'd seek out mysterious room 46. He sat back in the seat and closed his eyes, not sleeping, just relaxing. He had to relax all he could for now... he'd be put to work soon enough.

After another bumpy ride down a narrow road, the jungle opened up to reveal a cluster of buildings - mostlyof uniform shape and size except for a larger compound in the center.

Pulling up between two buildings he dug two keys out of his pocket.

"Miss Jiminez... your room is 56." He gestured to the upstairs of the building on the right.

"And Taro-kun... yours is 53." He testured to the downstairs room on th left and handed them both keys with the number on the plastic keychain.

"You two make yourselves at home! The beach is down the path that way" He pointed westward.
