"You think you are so great just because you can cram me into this tiny jar?" said Sarah angrily. " Falco will not do anything for some lame brained magician with a pet rock!"

Falco gritted his teeth and eyed the jar containing his guardian before once again shifting his gaze towards the hooded person. Then, as if all air left him the young zahdl's shoulders slacked and when he looked up once more defeat showed in his eyes. " What are your terms?" asked Falco his gaze turned away from the hooded one.

"Falco! Stop being a baby! What can he possibly do to me? He's bullying you!" yelled Sarah from the confinements of the glass bottle.

"You are doing the most intelligent thing, boy," the man said, looking smugly at the one within the jar out of the corner of his eye. "It's quite simple, so even you should be able to handle it. I merely need you to...retrieve...something for me."

He waved his free hand in the air as if to indicate a shrug.

"So, do we have a deal? Your guardian's return for this...object?"

"Why? Can't you get it yourself? " Sarah taunted before directing herself to Falco. " I'm already dead anyway? Why should you be worried?"

Worried? Terrified would more accurately describe what he was going through now. Terrified of what might happen to Sarah if he were to refuse. Though she was dead as Sarah had bluntly put it, Falco couldn't help but worry about what might be done to her if the hooded one's request was denied.

Silently though still not looking at the hooded one's direction Falco mouthed "Yes," and nodded his head somewhat dejectedly before suddenly darting towards him. As quick as lighting Falco stretched out his hand and tried to retrieve the jar containing his guardian.

Sarah was suprised to say the least. So Falco had been acting all this while or was this sudden move a desperate one?

"Unfortunately, I am on foul terms with several people within the city, who have seen fit to create a barrier to keep me out in the cold," he threw one hand into his forehead dramatically. "Alas, it is a cruel world."

Seeing the young zahdl lunge for the jar, he quickly sidestepped, summoning the gargoyle once more to stand in front of him for protection.

"I wouldn't try that again if I were you, my young friend," he warned, voice lowered dangerously. "Not unless you want your guardian to become the gargoyle's dinner. Besides, my dear lady, he couldn't leave you behind. He does need your magic to survive, after all."

The hooded figure moved faster then he looked. Falling onto the ground as his attempt failed Falco hastily pushed himself up only to see the gargoyle once again staring at him. Cursing softly ( much to Sarah's horror) Falco glared at the hooded one. " What exactly do you want to me get and...how do I know I can trust you?"

"You monster!" exclaimed Sarah glaring through the bottle at her captor. "That's blackmailing! And Falco seems fine without me right now anyway"

Falco seems fine without me right now... Those words seemed to have pierced something deep within the zahdl. He was not fine at all! He had just let his closest friend and companion be captured and even worse, he was pathetic in the attempt to keep Sarah safe and in the attempt to get her back when he thought that the hooded figure had let his guard down.

Unconsiously digging his nails into the ground in anger Falco, for the first time noticed that there was yet another figure standing beside his guardian's captor.

"My dear child, you really should not trust anyone," the man said airily, waving the bottle about. "In any case, it certainly wouldn't do me any good to keep your guardian after you complete the task. I have no doubt that if I did keep her, you'd find some way to harass me." He rolled his eyes, even though the action was fairly hidden by the shadows falling on his face.

"In any event, the item I wish you to retrieve is called the Starburst Hope," he continued. "It has been placed in a location that makes it impossible for my creations to reach, but I have no doubt that you'll be able to reach it."

"To make sure you find it, I'll be sending along someone else to guide you," he said, looking back to the other figure. They made a 'tch' sound in irritation, not moving from their spot.

"Why the hell do I have to babysit?" they asked, irritated. The voice, despite the harshness of the statement, had a light, flutelike quality.

Falco watched as the hooded one waved his guardian so carelessly about; anger swelling threateningly inside. " And what will happen when I take this object? To you and to the city?" Falco asked also glaring his said 'babysitter' as if she too were part of this conspiracy.

"You are replacing me with some other female?!" Sarah asked incredulously. "Why not just send her then and leave us alone! Y-you big meanie!"
PostPosted: Fri Jul 28, 2006 2:40 pm

"Ah, but only one with the power of flight can reach the object," he replied, unpetrubed. "If it had been any other way, I would just have sent Marl here."

"And don't say I could have sent the gargoyle, either," he said quickly, shaking a finger. "The single window into the tower is much to small to accomodate it, plus I doubt it would be able to make it without drawing much attention to it."

"And don't worry your pretty little head about the city," he said, chuckling. "This gem is simply meant to settle a...dispute of sorts, between myself and another individual. I certainly doubt that it has any relevence at all to you, and, frankly, I don't give a damn."

The female in the shadows grunted. "Be a miracle if you did," she said under her breath.

"... Fine. Tell me where can I find this fancy of yours," Falco replied as he glanced towards the city. "But no hurting Sarah,"

"And no hurting others if possible," Sarah added more to Falco than to anyone else.

Falco nodded and managed a weak grin at his guardian. "I'll return as soon as possible Sarah. And when we're stronger, kick this guy's behind," added Falco in an undertone.

"Marlowe, please lead our friend to the object in question," he, not so much requested as demanded. Sighing in resignation, the girl in the shadows came forward, scowling.

"If you're supposed to be such a 'great magician'," she said, making quotations with her fingers, "Then why the hell can't you devise some magicky way to get the thingamabob yourself?"

"Silence," he commanded, looking haughty. "You should not speak of things you know nothing of."

"Hmph," she replied, mimicking his attitude, "Well I may not know magic, but I do know you. Unfortunately." She grimaced.

"Just do the task required of you and be quiet," he snapped, crossing his arms. Marlow tossed her head, looking indignant. She walked within a few feet of Falco and put her hands on her hips.

"Well? We going?"

Falco took a moment to take in the lady's features before nodding and setting off at a steady pace towards the city. He doubted that he would be allowed to fly when his charge could not; and besides, Sarah's life was at stake.

When they were out of the magician's line of sight, Falco cast a tentative glance at the female walkng close to him and wondered how was she connected to the hooded 'magician'.

Sarah meanwhile was probably having the time of her life abusing her captor with many a foul word.

Marlowe stopped short, running a hand through her already messy hair.

"Look, just so you know, none of this was my idea, m'kay?" she said shorty, looking fairly ticked off. "So don't go blamin' me, m'kay? If it were up to me, I woulda either killed Master Mage Man or run off years ago, but since I can't it still doesn't mean that I'm privvy to all his plans and stuff." She crossed her arms.

"He's a damn coward anyway," she smirked, looking to the side. "If you're gonna do somethin' ya gotta go the whole way yourself. Gettin' others to do your dirty work is damn cheap, y'know?"

"It's mean...," Falco agreed but still kept a relatively healthy distance away from the woman.( He had just met her after all and not under the best of situations to say the least.)

"But he will keep his word won't he?" the zahdl asked in a rather worried tone as they made their way towards the city. Already Falco could see a few people walking about the outskirts here and there and the zahdl shifted his wings nervously.

"I'm pretty sure he'll give your guardian back," she said slyly, a smirk creeping across her lips. "He may be a sleazeball, but he's a sniveling little coward. From what I know, he's damn terrified of the zahdl's magical powers, and only went after you 'cuz you're so young."

She shrugged halfheartedly.

"He'd probably weewee in his trousers if he thought a full grown zahdl at full powers was goin' after him. Or even a group of younger zahdl."

Seeing the people nearby, she snarled silently, lips settling into a frown.

"Come on, we're almost there," she said softly. "Don't wanna be seen round here."

She ducked down a side street, motioning for him to follow.

So the magician was not as brave as he made himself up to be?
thought Falco as he followed the girl into the side street with his heart beating rather quickly. This was the first time the zahdl has been this close to a city and ironically it wasn't with a good intention either.

I'm going to make sure he pays then. For Sarah as well as anyone who was unfortunate enough to be his victim went on a voice inside him. So this was supposed revenge? Falco wasn't sure but it did give him a funny feeling inside. A feeling like he had actually had somesort of a goal to reach.

"But what injustice has he done to you Marlowe?" Falco asked as he nimbly hopped over a few broken pieces of pottery. The city did not seem as impressive close up. Especially the side street they were making their way in.
