K-9, Romana and Jack....

My favourite overall is definitely Ace. I really like her character, not sure why. Tegan was cool too though.

I have to say that I have a sort of love/hate thing with Rose. One one hand she has an interesting character and has some really good lines and fun moments (The Idiot's Lantern anyone?), but on the other she can get very Mary Sue like. I hate the way the Doctor gets so obsessive about her, like she's the best thing that ever happened to him. It just grates on my nerves.

What didn't you like about Tegan? I actually didn't mind her all that much. Of course, it probably helped that the Doctor was surrounded be an even more annoying companion at the time (i.e. Adric). And Nyssa was a rather meh assistant. Though I suppose Turlough was rather refreshing as a sort of anti-companion, being so overtly cowardly and cynical all the time.

If I was the Doctor, I'd have had Tegan serve in-flight meals in the TARDIS...

There have been quite a few characters that I thought could have made interesting long-term companions. Ray, from Delta and the Bannermen, was a much better fit than Mel was. I quite liked Reinette (Girl in the Fireplace). And the sadistic side of me would have loved to see Herbert (Timelash) join the TARDIS crew, if only because he annoyed the 6th Doctor even more than Peri did... which is quite an accomplishment.

I want more fanfic!

Also I don't think Tegan was that bad and I actually really liked Nyssa. She had the potential to become much better too. And she had SUCH a cool outfit in Earthshock.

I haven't actually seen any episodes with Romana in them so I can't comment. The one I hate the most is Harry, he was just irritating with no redeeming qualities at all.
