It was not arrogance that allowed for Sanguinius to fall to Horus! It was the Emperor!
It was not covert operations that allowed for the legions of Chaos to proceed this far, it was the Emperor!
Just because we are Imperial Marines does not mean we serve the Emperor, and it also does not mean that we serve some Chaos God.
We serve our Primarch as we are told to in our GENES.

However, the Eldar could destroy what little remains of him/the Imperium without second thoguht, merely by unleashing the warp on your home world.

The Eldar are not the only warp-faring beings in this universe. There are legends of those that survive and live only in the warp, then return, millennia later, escaping... somehow still alive. And what of our Psychers?
They connect to the maelstrom to command their abilties too.

What about the aged warp gates? Those are used by the imperium for rapid transport through the warp, right? Or at least, that was the story given by the OLD rule book. I've been told theres a new re-issue now.

I've been told theres a new re-issue now. Dunno about the new book, but it says in the Eldar codex that they were made by the Eldar, and only the Harlequins can live in the warp unprotected.
