{Curls tendrils at being left alone all day}

((Whoever made that account, T-boss, is insane. rofl ))

((On X-rays: There was discussion about the eyes; I don't think we actually settled on x-rays per se, but rather some sort of invasive viewing bit - which, we figured, would give him a detectable signature, something to trip red flags. We used "x-rays" as a term of convenience. The radar system you propose could fill that niche. [There may have been discussion regarding the use of EM field generation, or radar, or whatnot; I don't have it saved, so I'm not sure of the specifics. I'm hoping some other D5ers can fill that in. I figure that any faulty physics are probably my fault. sweatdrop ] Considering that the building isn't hardened, it's based on a standard ferrous I-beam skeleton; with a combination of active radar and passive magnetic resonance scanning, Leandro could easily obtain the information described in the post, I reckon.))

((I should know by now to run all the physics past T-boss first. razz ))

The coordinator heard the door open, prompting him to grab a mask and jog around the corner. He crossed the lobby with all the stride he could muster, what with his bad back. When he saw who the newcomer was, he managed a wry smile.

"Welcome, Leandro," he said, extending his hand for a firm shake. "Put this on. I'm sorry about this whole mess; there was a miscommunication as to the timetables. The sensitive areas are clean. Alexander, Riley, and Kory are all up ahead in the command center; you can pull the map from the ambient network, or call one of the AIs to lead you there."

Schimp removed his own mask. "I hate to leave so suddenly, but I've received a call from the Senate committee. Tell the others I'll be back in a couple hours, hrm? Kata should arrive before I do; she'll conduct the initial briefing."

{Uses the tools laying around Nida's pad to start building and unbuilding scrap. Nothing useful is made, but boredom is averted.}

Axe listened to the AIdes explaination and gave what would be considered a puppydog face since she didn't answer the questions he REALLY wanted to know about. However, considering how the AIdes react he gave a comment, "Hrm, thanks for the answer... I bet you're a great conversationalist on dates huh?" This prompted a sigh before noticing Kory jacked in and waving.

"Man, I see D5 made sure to get individuals who were AXE charm resistant... no no, don't get up we'll find our way out, thanks!" he was obviously joking then glanced at his watch. The action though was mainly from habit as he could easily get the time from his optical package.

Kory's monotone sounded over the tacnet in Axe's and Riley's occipital lobes. weren't resistant, my good man - AIs or Kories.> Ze raised an eyebrow before popping the jacks from the back of her neck and letting their cords retract into the terminal. Ze waved 0A off as ze approached. Ze was going for the unkempt look today: pajama pants, flip-flops, and an untucked and wrinkled Oxford shirt with the top and bottom buttons undone. Very professional.

"Good to meet you in person finally," Kory said more amiably as ze drew within conversation range. Ze held zir hand out for shakes. "Are Leandro and/or Kata here yet? I'm anxious to get the initial meeting started. We've already got something on our plate, apparently."

Riley, or rather Kylie, partly reclined on a conveniently nearby railing, but didn't comment on Alex's remarks. Instead, she answered Kory's query with a shrug and a "Kata probably saw some reinforced sparring gear on sale on the way over here... or maybe more of that no-name organic oil crap she's been getting fond of. I could find out, but I'm more interested in what you have frankly." A pause, then, "As for Leandro, I beleve you'd know when he gets here sooner than we would. You're going to have to show me how to patch through the building's sensor network sometime."

The androgyne's eyes fluttered for a brief moment. "Actually, it seems that Leandro has just arrived. Also, the director has left." Zir eyes popped back to their normal state. "I find it easiest just setting aside five dedicated ports, then tying them in to the various feeds from the local tacnet. The feed in the building is an active feed, so you don't have to consciously ping it to get information. Plus, if we ever do field work where we set up a command truck or sensor beacons or any other C3 devices, the feeds from those Zentities can be run on the same port addresses, so we won't have to resynchronize every time we're on a mission."

Ze jogged back to the workstation. "I'll set this up while we wait for Leandro's arrival. Remind me to get you guys the new access keys to the tacnet so you can get more than just radio." As ze spoke, ze worked a keyboard, bringing a flood of text data across the main screen. This was quickly replaced by the image of a middle-aged man in a crisp suit, apparently the first frame of a video file - it was doing that eye-twitching skip between the first and second frames, the kind of thing that a videotape or low-capacity video software does when the movie's on pause.

-------

In the meantime, Nida had taken a break. Ostensibly to eat, but now she was huddled over a terminal in an unassigned office in the hallway leading toward the clean area, checking her email (and the guilds on the forums she frequented).

Quote:
Hi everyone, this is Eileen. Eileen!

Holy s**t. She hadn't even had a chance to catch up with Eileen... the two had hardly formed the same rapport evident among the other crew - for that matter, Nida hadn't really clicked with anyone; she was too off-putting for that - but Nida certainly liked Eep, and that had been a potential friendship she had been interested in pursuing before... well, before she left.

Quote:
Nida and Ken, did you guys get reassigned? I haven't seen you at all since I got back, and I brought pocky! It's gonna melt if I don't see you soon! crying

Jesus. What to say to that?

Quote:
Duo/Trowa yaoi - click here! whee

Or that, for that matter? sweatdrop

Nida quickly wrote a draft, then sent it before she wound up editing... and editing... and never getting around to replying.

Quote:
Eep!

It's a long story. I don't know what your clearance is, but I reckon you can dig up the details pretty easily. Suffice to say that my time off was involuntary, and since my very recent return, I've chosen to take a sabbatical from the military. I'm living a civvie life. Even switched to living in Barton. I've got a construction consultancy on the side, so I'll be able to make enough to live well, but it's not as glamorous as crawling around inside Veritechs, that's for sure.

Call me sometime. I'll make dinner, we can catch up. I'm ebrained out now, so we can even datalink if you still can't speak above half a decibel. 3nodding

((Due to a long time since the last opaj login, I'm assuming that RL is kicking the poor guy's a**. crying I hope nobody minds if I scene him in for the sake of motion.))

Kory tossed a wave toward Leandro as the man came in, readjusting his hair after its industrial-fan tousling. After a brief round of introductions, ze began the video.

The camera followed the man in the suit from a stationary, 3/4 perspective as he walked across a carpeted room toward a door inlaid with frosted glass. A security camera, then, probably in his office. The scene switched to another camera in the hall outside; this one tracked his motion down the hallway to a set of large doors. Those who had been behind the scenes of the legislative branch might recognize the hallway as that leading from the second-floor private senatorial offices to the main balcony overlooking the Senate floor.

As the man reached for the doors, a green streak came flying out from another office. This resolved itself into the figure of a woman in professional attire of the sort of hue normally reserved for the walls of oncology wards. The woman had a driver in her hands - a three-wood, useful on those dogleg fairways - and proceeded to beat the man about the head and shoulders with it. The man attempted to overpower her, but a stroke connected with the top of his head, felling him and bending the driver beyond repair. In the same heartbeat, the balcony doors opened, spilling forth four armed guards who quickly took the woman into custody and began chattering into their walkie-talkies.

Kory stopped the video. "This man, as some few of you who spend too much time watching G-SPAN may be aware, is Senator Ben Arnold. He's a former GA man - headed up their strategic arm - but he went over to the dark side and got himself elected four years ago. And now he's got paranoia and a bandaged head." The video cranked back to the first available frame wherein the woman could be clearly seen. "His secretary, Dana Orient, attacked him yesterday. She's currently in GPD custody pending her arraignment."

The video shrank to one corner of the screen to make room for dossiers on the two individuals. Vital statistics, employment history, and personality profiles (limited in Ms. Orient's case) were displayed. "There's been no cause for animosity between the two before, at least according to everyone around them," continued Kory. "Arnold says he can't figure out why his secretary would attack him. Orient, however, said in her statement that she couldn't stand by and watch him philander around on his wife any longer. When asked if she had spoken to the senator about the issue, or if she'd considered any other action, she replied in the negative, with no further explanation."

The dossiers shrank to another corner. Now, the major portion of the screen was taken up with a photograph: Senator Gainsborough of SCAM/MP shaking hands with Arnold, with Orient and several aides nearby. Kory zoomed the image slightly to focus on the legislators. "Our leash-yankers over at SCAMP" - you could hear the spelling difference in the way ze said it - "gave us a directive. They want us to investigate. Not only this incident, but we're also to use the opportunity to dig a bit into Arnold's activities. Apparently, someone's concerned that he's doing something less than kosher on the side."

Axe watches the briefing and takes note as he comments, "Well, as far as the secretary is concerned I mean come on... a golf club? If she really wanted to do him in she'd gone a more practical route... hrm, perhaps this is a good timing for some sympathy and distraction if indeed our Senator has his hands a bit dirty... but lots of politicians do something 'less than kosher' so its safe to assume that having us to investigate means something more than stealing a few taxpayer dollars and feeling up his secretary?" then a brief, unrelated aside in the form of, "Well... at least he good taste, but fails in style."

He begins to go through his mind trying to trace back any other 'problems' the senator has had then asks, "He'd be a first time offender then? Well in any case mind if we get an account of Ms. Orient's accusations first hand? Despite what we've seen so far it's fairly obvious such a pretty flower is gonna get crushed by the mighty political foot if she's not properly cared for, dont you think?" He tosses a smile from the analogy the somewhat selfless nature of him indirectly volunteering himself for the task.

Kata Marasaki grumbled as she rushed from the H2, pounding the pavement with supernatural swiftness. ******** traffic. What kind of impression was she supposed to make being late to the group's first meeting? She burst through the front doors as fast as the automatic motors would allow, the denim material of her jacket complaining loudly as the leading edge of the doors on both sides tried to shred it apart...thankfully unsuccessfully. Also thankfully, she'd been here before. She tossed a quick wave in Nida's direction, then in the direction of one of the sensors she knew Kory could see her from.

She began to slow only when she heard the whirr of the high powered fans that kept the nasty asbestos away from the more sensitive parts of the building, and by the time she had entered that place, she was all composure and grins, tossing the same sort of wave to those who didn't have the benefit of seeing it earlier. "Yo. Is it too late to be fashionable? biggrin "

Riley followed up Axe's comment with, "I can tell you'll enjoy your work." She continued after directing a smile in Alex's direction. "While you check that out, I can begin discreetly checking into Senator Arnold's social network...both to verify her stated claims, and to begin investigating as per SCAM/MP's request. Kory, can I assume you'll be working the net in parallel with my work?"

Kory waved to Kata. "I'll defer to our fearless leader here." The androgyne stepped back from the console and leaned on the wall near Axe.

Kata nodded and sat on the edge of the console surface. She turned to Riley to respond to the question. "Kory will be diving to determine any unusual trails anyone's left. Maybe there are some clues in their network activities. I'll be tagging along with you on this assignment, Riley; we can provide better opportunities for social engineering if we work as a pair. Leandro, I'd like for you to take on the role of a maintenance worker at the Senate. Snoop around in Arnold's office. There may be some sort of physical evidence we're missing, and those eyes could come in handy."

She leaned over and fiddled with the console for about twenty seconds. The main screen blanked, then switched to a few still shots of various tech: the D5 equipment roster. "Axe, Leandro - grab a spider pack each when you go. Nida wants to field test the thermoptic camo feature." Wry skepticism crossed Kata's face. "She says it can mimic a regular backpack in appearance. We'll see how well it works."
